    death yesterday of Mrs. Louisa H.
    Waterstrat, 75, of 181 William street
    at the DeOraff Memorial hospital,
    Tonawanda lost one of its oldest
    and most highly respected residents
    Mrs. Waterstrat came to America
    from Germany during her early
    childhood and resided in Tonawanda
    the greater part of her life.
    She was a member of the Gold
    Star Mothers' club of the Tonawandas,
    the American Legion auxiliary
    of Tonawandas post, the Immanuel
    Lutheran church and the
    Ladles' guild of the church.
    . She Is survived by her husband.
    Alfred F. Waterstrat; a daughter,
    Mrs. Louis A. Ziehl; two sons, p.
    William and Arthur H. Waterstrat,
    of Tonawanda; seven grandchild
    dren; one great grandchild, two sisters.
    Mrs. Herman H. Jane and Mrs,
    William H. Malchow, of Tonawanda,
    and three brothers, Carl and Gustav
    Ullrich, of Tonawanda, and Herman
    Ullrich, of Youngstown, N. Y.
    Funeral services will be held Sunday
    afternoon at 2 at the residence
    and half an hour later at the Immanuel
    church. The Rev. Theodore
    Schroeder will officiate. Interment
    will be in Elmlawn cemetery.

    Gustav A. Ullrich, a 97-year-old
    retired home builder, died yesterday at
    his home at 211 Wheeler St..
    Tonawanda, after a short illness.
    A native of Tonawanda, Mr. Ullrich
    worked as a self-employed carpenter
    all his life until his retirement about 20
    years ago. In 1955, he and his late wife.
    Louise, celebrated their 50th wedding
    anniversary.
    He and his wife were lifelong
    residents of Tonawanda and members
    of Salem United Church of Christ.
    Survivors include a daughter, Mrs.
    Raymond (Arlene) Sherman of
    Lancaster, a son, Franklin C. of
    Tonawanda, six grandchildren and 14
    great-grandchildren.

    Herman H. Ullrich, 84, of 110
    Lake Road, Youngstown, a former
    Tonawanda alderman, died
    yesterday afternoon at Ransom-
    ville, General Hospital after a
    brief illness.
    He operated a grocery and
    m e a t bu s i n e s s a t Young and
    Scott Streets more than 35 years.
    He started working in the grocery
    store owned by the late
    John G. Wallenmaier at the age
    of 14.
    Later mr. Ullrich purchased
    the business and building and re-
    mained at the same location un-
    til 1938 when he and his family
    moved to Youngstown, N.Y.
    He was a Tonawanda alder-
    man in 1910 and served as trus-
    tee of Salem Church Council for
    many years. He was a director
    of Niagara Savings & Loan As-
    sociation more than 25 years.
    Mr. Ullrich is survived by his
    wife, Anna H. Proy; four daugh-
    ters; five grandchildren; a great-
    grandson; a sister and a broth-
    er. He and his wife celebrated
    their 59th wedding anniversary
    Feb. 16.
    Services will be Thursday at
    2 p.m. at Creasey Memorial
    Chapel, 138 Delaware St. Burial
    will be in Elmlawn Cemetery.

    William Ullrich, a former
    member of the Tonawanda Police
    Deparment for 34 years before
    retiring in 1952, died today
    at DeGraff Memorial Hospital.
    He was 74 years old.
    Mr. Ullrich was stricken at
    his home at 306 Broad St. The
    first aid squad of the Fire Department
    was called and administered
    oxygen to Mr. Ullrich
    before he was taken to the
    hospital where he was pronounced
    dead on arrival
    Mr. UBrieh joined the department
    in 1919 and retired as a
    desk lieutenant. A veteran of
    World War I, he was a member
    of Salem United Church of
    Christ, American Legion Tona-
    wanda Post 264, Golden Age
    Club and a 50 - year member of
    Niagara Hose Company.
    He is survived by his wife,
    Cora Frantz Ullrich; two step-
    daughters, Mrs. Kenneth R. Batt
    and Donald E. Miller of
    North Tonawanda; two sisters,
    Mrs. Ruth Sponholz and Mrs.

    Willam Trost; a brother Harold
    C. Ullrich, all of Tonawanda,
    and seven grandchildren,
    and three great-grandchildren.

    NORTH TONAWANDA — Marion Z. Gau (nee Ziehl), age 84, of North Tonawanda, December 6, 2010 at the Newfane Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, after a long illness. Marion was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from State Teachers College at Fredonia. She worked in the Tonawanda and North Tonawanda Public School System as a Music teacher. For 25 years, she was the Head Usher at the former Melody Fair. As an accomplished violinist, she played with the Niagara County Community College Orchestra and her church. Marion was active in the community working for the DeGraff Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; an 80 year member of Post 264 American Legion Auxiliary and involved with the Parent Teachers Association at Gilmore School. Marion was an avid bridge player and teacher. Marion and her family enjoyed the family cottage in Silver Bay, Ontario. She and her husband, the late Edwin A. Gau, owned and operated Gau Printing.

    Beloved mother of Gail Gau of Lewiston, Gary (Cheryl) Gau of Howard Lake, MN, Glen (Lissa) Gau of North Tonawanda, Gloria Gau of North Tonawanda, and Gordon Gau of Wheatfield. Grandmother of Gillian and Rachel Gau.

    WATERSTRAT Dr. RICHARD WATERSTRAT, Ph.D Dr. Richard "Dick" Waterstrat passed away January 26, 2021 at Shady Grove Hospital after a prolonged illness at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Hankey Waterstrat in Maryland; his sister, Jean Waterstrat Schultz in Williamsville, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth (Strehlow) and Arthur Waterstrat; his brother, Carlton Waterstrat and sisters, Betty Riemer and Phyllis Hodge. Dr. Waterstrat graduated from Tonawanda High School. He went on to Erie County Technical Institute in Buffalo, NY. After receiving his degree, he joined General Elextgric Company as a member of their Metallurgy Research group. Dr. Waterstrat received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Illinois in 1961 in Metallurgical Engineering. Following graduation, he worked for the American Dental Association and conducted an abundance of research and dental metal-lurgy at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, DC. The work that he performed on metallic superconductors at the Naval Research Laboratory led to an invitation from the University of Geneva in Switzerland where he would eventually receive his Doctorate Degree. In 1978, he returned to Geneva for his oral dissertation and was awarded a Doctorate in Solid-State Physics. After he retired from the American Dental Association, he continued his research in Metallurgy at NIST (National Institute of Science and Technology) as a visiting researcher studying Atomic Structure of Metals. Dr. Waterstrat enjoyed airplane travel, especially during his excursions throughout Europe with his wife, Shirley, for both work and leisure. Some of his accomplishments include: 99 published scientific research reports "What's Best of What's New" medal from Popular Science Magazine Introduced the use of dental amalgam fillings made form spherical alloy powders and produced the first prevision dental castings of pure titanium. Developed the bio-compatible alloy with extraordinary resistance to fracture and wear, which has the unusual ability to toughen itself against propagation of cracks that would normally cause cracks and wear to the replacement. She worked in missions, was a Girl Scout leader, child care provider, avid crafter, and family historian. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and in prayer with her Lord Jesus Christ.     Mrss Ann Elizabeth Welti,
    18, of 1199 Sweeney St., died
    Saturday (Nov. 23, 1963) at
    her home after an illness of
    a few .months.
    Miss Wein was a lifelong
    resident of this pity and a
    member of Salem United
    Church of Christ, where she
    was primary Sunday school
    teacher* a member of the
    choir and president of the
    1959 confirmation class.
    She was graduated from
    North T o n a w a n d a High
    School last June and received
    the DeGraff Memorial
    Hospital A u x il i a r y's
    nurses award.
    During, her school days
    she .was a varsity cheerleader
    for four years, a
    member of the -Girls' Ath-
    letic Association, the French
    club, National Field Serv-
    ice, Junior Red Cross, Dramatic
    Club, year book staff,
    and Future Nurses Club.
    She had majored in languages
    and science and had
    been accepted to study at
    Deaconess Hospital in Buffalo.
    Survivors are her. parents,
    Mr. and Mrs. Chester
    F. Wein. and her grandparents,
    Mrs. Otto Wein,of
    TonaWanda and Mr. and
    Mrs. Herman Ulrich of
    Yourigstown.
    Funeral services will be
    conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday
    at Roth Funeral Home
    by Rev. Karl H. A. Rest,
    pastor of Salem Church.
    Burial will be in Elmlawn
    Cemetery.

    PRINTGail Marie Gau, DC, on January 15, 2022 after a long illness. Daughter of the late Edward and Marion (nee Ziehl) Gau. Sister of Gary Gau of Howard Lake, MN, Gloria L. Gau of North Tonawanda, Gordon Gau of Tennessee and the late Glen Gau. Also survived by 2 nieces and two great nephews and one great niece.
    Gail was a 1971 graduate of North Tonawanda St. High School. She graduated from Logan Chiropractic in St. Louis in 1986. She was a caring professional who sought to help people from their pain. Her love in life was caring for her dogs and her home in Lewiston.

    There is no prior visitation.

    Memorials may be made to the ASPCA of Niagara County.

Lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, May 28, 2015, dear husband of Elizabeth (Lissa) Amabile; brother of Dr. Gail, Gary (Cheryl), Gloria and Gordon Gau; uncle of Gillian (Joe) Rickart and Rachel Gau; predeceased by parents Edwin and Marion Gau. Glen was co-owner of Shawnee C.C. in Wheatfield, NY since 1986. He was a longtime member of the Third Warder's Social Club in North Tonawanda. He will be missed by his many golfing, fishing, and hunting buddies who knew him as "Goo." His favorite hobby was restoring his canary yellow 1970 convertible mustang. Glen donated his body to the University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program, a testament to his generosity and eagerness to help find a cure for cancer. A party will be held in his honor in October 2015.
