Frances "Ella" Dickinson, 99, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2022 in Gasport, NY. She was born in Carlton, NY on December 6th, 1922 to her late parents L. Henry and Leona Wass Rhodes. Ella graduated from Barker High School. She married Earl K. Dickinson on October 27, 1945, he predeceased her in 1998 after 52 years of marriage. They moved to Wrights Corners in 1951 where they were known for their beautiful gladiolus.
Ella was a life member of the Wrights Corners Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and was a long time member of the former Wrights Corners Presbyterian Church. She worked many years as an elections inspector and also at Peterson Farms. Ella was a very dedicated wife and mother and was well known for her cooking, especially her pies.
Surviving are her children; Lewis, Luren (Shawn), Lansing (Jody) and Lowell (Lynette). Devoted grandmother to Jeremy, Joe, Casey, Ryan, Amy, Mandy, Cliff, Jacob, Joshua, Allison and Jenah and great grandmother to 6 great grandchildren. Dearest sister to Eleanor Barclay and Keith Rhodes. She is predeceased by a daughter, LuAnn; a grandson Brandon and her siblings Lewis, Gordon, Onalee and Daniel.
Calling hours will be held on SUNDAY January 9th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME INC. 2670 Main St. Newfane, NY 14108. Funeral service will be held on MONDAY January 10th at 11:00 AM. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Wrights Corners Cemetery.

Obituary of George Gordon Rhodes, Sr.

(Newfane) G. Gordon Rhodes, Sr. age 96 died August 1, 2021 at Eastern Niagara Hospital following a short illness.  He was born September 3, 1924 in Somerset, a son of the late L. Henry and Leona (Wass) Rhodes.
Gordon enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and family reunions.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Barker, Hess Road Wesleyan Church and a long- time contributor to the Quaker Road United Methodist Church.  Gordon drove truck for White’s Transportation in Lockport, retiring after 31 years.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Myrna (Stover) Rhodes; brothers Louis and Daniel Rhodes; sister Onalee Wilson.  He is survived by his children G. Gordon (Betty) Rhodes, Jr., AJ (Henry) Rhodes-Stegeman, H. Alan Rhodes, Sr., K. Joyce (Thomas, Sr.) Marchiole, Richard (Renee) Rhodes, Bonnie (Mike) Difino, LouAnne (Luis) Flores; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Ella (Earl) Dickinson, Eleanor (David) Barclay; brother Keith (Sharon) Rhodes as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was born in Barker, NY on February 5, 1932, son of the late Elmer and F. Veletta Rhodes Dietrich Burton served in the Air force Reserves. He was the owner and operator of Dietrich Hardware and Electric in Barker, NY and retired from Buffalo State College as an audio visual technician. Burton was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Barker Fire Dept, Barker Lions Club, No Name Model A Club and the American Legion. He loved traveling, attending air shows and spending time with his family. Father of Sherry (Stuart) Weinberg, Patricia (James) Trinder, Dawn Pisarski, Dennis (Donna) Weeks, Darcy (George) Perry and the late Judith Dietrich and Darrell Weeks. Brother of Evelyn Riley, Vera Fiedler, Lynda Higley and the late Charles Dietrich and Gertrude Beckwith. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Joan W. Anderson, 89, of Barker entered into rest peacefully on
December 1st, 2020 at MMH Orleans Community Health, Medina, NY.

Born March 1st, 1931 in Barker, Joan was the daughter of the late
Delbert and Doris (Rhodes) Wass. A 1948 graduate of Barker Central
School, she then attended RBI, graduating as a Medical Secretary.
After marrying the late Malcolm “Andy” Anderson on July 20th, 1951,
they made their home in the Town of Somerset.

Joan was a life-time member of Faith United Methodist Church of
Barker, including the Women’s Society, choir, and the Avon Study Club.
Her beautiful soprano voice graced countless church services,
cantatas, weddings, memorial services, and community events.

Joan enjoyed singing, watching classic movies, knitting, playing
piano, the family cats, and spending time with her children and
grandchildren, both locally and those in Florida and Michigan.

She is survived by her children Dana (Deborah) Anderson of
Chesterfield, MI, Lynne (Gregory) Nellist of Medina, Lisa (Scott)
Becker of Sarasota, FL, and Delbert (Cynthia) Anderson of Barker;
granddaughters Erin (Michael) Kramer, Alicia (Jed) Shaffer, Rachel
(Stephen) Kudiba, Krista Nellist, Tara Poss, and Erica (Chris) Dennis;
great grandchildren Roland, Leith, and Holden Shaffer, Lillian Pohl,
Calvin Herb, and Cadence, Kai, and Emersyn Dennis. She is also
survived by her sister Joyce (Michael) Gubesch and many nieces,
nephews, and cousins.

Farm youth electrocuted
APPLETON - A 15-year-old farm worker was electrocuted here Saturday in view of his father when he tried to slide down a conveyor system from the barn of John Sweeney, 7367 Somerset Road, at lunchtime.
New York State police, who investigated the fatality, said the boy was identified as Paul Lewis Rhodes, of 7394 W. Somerset Road, who along with his father, Daniel Rhodes, worked for Mr. Swenney.
Apparently two conveyors were being used to load hay into the barn and the lower conveyor developed an electrical short-circuit.
Witnesses said the boy slid down the upper conveyor to the lower one but as his feet touched the lower conveyor, his hands still grasped the upper conveyer; setting up an electrical ground.
Niagara County Coroner Daniel Andrews, of Youngstown, was called to the scene and pronounced the youth dead. An autopsy was ordered and the body was taken to Newfane Intercommunity Hospital.
Investigator William Tumulty of the New York State Police investigated the fatality. He said the conveyor system was ordered out of service by the coroner until it is inspected and repaired.
The dead youth is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rhodes; a sister, Evelyn Leona Rhodes, and two step-brothers, Michael and Scott Solomon, all at home, Also surviving are his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rhodes of Appleton, Mrs. Florence Rheim, of Reading, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Walck, of Sandborn (sic).
Paul was a member of the West Somerset Baptist Church softball team and the church choir. He was a 10th grade student at Barker Central High School and a member of the Junior Varsity football team, He was also a member of the Future Farmers of America.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Arthur J. Hood Funeral Home, Barker. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Private funeral services will be held Tuesday at the family's convenience. Memorial (sic) may be made to the West Somerset Baptist Church softball team or music funds. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald Wilson of West Somerset Baptist Church officiating. The Rev. Earl Bell of Faith United Methodist Church, Barker, will conduct the prayers.
