LEWISTON - Grace M. (nee Kandt) Chambers, 85, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life on Friday, April 11, 2014 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born on August 12, 1928 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Anna (Conrad) Kandt.

Mrs. Chambers was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. In 1951, Grace married Jack Chambers, Sr. He predeceased her in 1975. For many years, she was employed as a waitress for the Howard Johnson's Restaurant on Main Street in Niagara Falls, NY, until her retirement in 1995. Mrs. Chambers was a longtime member of the former Calvary Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Chambers is survived by three sons, Jack (Angela) Chambers, Jr. of Grand Island, NY, Gary (Dorothy) Chambers of Niagara Falls, NY, and Brian (fiancee Elise) Chambers of Niagara Falls, NY; three grandchildren, Lindsay (Eric) Pellegrino of Amherst, NY, David (fiancee Brenda) Chambers of Maryland and Sabrina Wright of South Carolina; one sister, Mildred "Millie" (late Norman) Brooks of Arizona and several nieces and nephews. WHEATFIELD - Donald G. Mante, who headed the Town of Wheatfield Highway Department for 22 years, died last Tuesday while on a hunting trip in Machais. He was 68.
Mr. Mante was a lifelong resident of the town and worked for the Highway Department for 38 years before retiring as its elected superintendent in 1999.
He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also was a devoted Cleveland Browns football fan.
Mr. Mante was a member of the Wheatfield Democratic Club, the Niagara County Highway
Superintendents Association and the Wheatfield Seniors Club.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, the former Arlene R. Krull; a daughter, Lori Mettler of Sanborn; his mother, Mary of Wheatfield; a brother, Martin Jr. of Wheatfield; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services were Sunday in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member. Burial was in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery.

A funeral service for Gerald A. Mante Sr., 62, of Wheatfield, will be held at 8 P.M. Sunday in DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Wheatfield. Burial in Wheatfield Cemetery is private.
Mante died Wednesday (July 31, 2002) in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Buffalo after a long illness.
He was born in Wheatfield and graduated from North Tonawanda High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1967.
Mante was a truck driver for Haseley Trucking from 1968 to 1998. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Joan; two sons, Michael of Venice, Fla., and Gerald A. Jr. of Niagara Falls; a stepson, Gene Campbell of Wheatfield; two brothers, Donald and Martin Jr., both of Wheatfield; and three grandchildren.

Robert W. Kandt, 69, died Dec. 25, 2022 in the comfort of his home. He was born July 29, 1953 in Lockport, NY and graduated from Lockport Senior High School. He attended the University of Kentucky where he occasionally took classes and eventually graduated in 1983. Kandt was known for his love of the Buffalo Bills (Go Bills!), golf, baseball and most other sports (except definitely not soccer), witty headlines, appropriately placed curse words, beef on weck, and Top 40 hits of his time (inexplicably referred to as "oldies.") Kandt worked at 803 South, a local bar that was regrettably torn down to make room for the underpass on South Broadway. It was at this bar that he honed his musical trivia skills and met his wife. He went on to enjoy his work as Assistant Sports Editor and later as News Editor at the Lexington Herald-Leader, from which he retired in 2012. Kandt moved to Camarillo, CA in 2014, where he golfed as often as possible and volunteered at River Ridge Golf Club in his spare time. He returned to Lexington in 2017, enjoying the proximity of his children and grandchildren and continuing to golf as often as possible. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Catherine Dixon Kandt, daughter Sara (Matt) Galyon, grandchildren Asher and Sky, son Ben (Taylor) Starling, siblings Barbara Kandt, Karen (Mark) Meyer, Susan Kandt, and Charles (LuAnn) Kandt, as well as several nieces, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruth Meier Kandt. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Woodford Humane Society.
