Charles W. Simms. 16. were charged
with first degree murder last night
n connection with the bludgeon
slaying of William T. Toenniessen,

Leo J. Hagerty said.
Toenniessen was bludgeoned to
death as he lay in bed at the rear
of a delicatessen store In Buffalo's
east side. His sister. Mrs Amelia
Manweiler, 58, owner of the store,
was beaten and seriously Injured as
she attempted to aid her brother.
She has recovered.
Deputy Police Commissioner Oscar
H. Dabritz said "the motive for the
attacks was robbery."

Carl Toenniessen, 42 years old of 65
Filmore avenue Buffalo, was instantly
killed here Monday when a shotgun he
was carrying went off, the charge
striking him over the heart. He was
attempting to pass through a. hole in
a wire fence when the trigger of. the
run evidently caught in the. wire, causing
the gun to accidentally discharge.
It is thought that he had taken the
gun and had gone out to hunt a hawk
that had been making depredations
among the chickens of that vlcinity
When he was missed a search was
made and his body was found on the
farm of Mrs. Augusta Toenniessen, his
sister-in-law. He was born in Wilson
and resided here until 13 years of age
when he moved to Buffalo where he
had been shipping clerk in the John C.
Posts Sons wholesale paint establish-
ment for 25 years. He was here on a
vacation. he is survived by his wife
and one son, James, 9 years old; five
brothers, Julius and Fred of Wilson,
William and Walter of Buffalo and Aug-
ust of Tonawanda and two sisters, Mrs.
William Manweller of Buffalo and Mrs.
Charles Israel of Barker. The funeral

Joyce Loretta (Toenniessen) Bull, 91, died peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018.  Born February 15, 1927 to Norman Toenniessen and Loretta (Merz) Toenniessen.  She graduated from Lockport High School in 1944.  September 1944 she entered Deaconess School of Nursing in Buffalo, graduating in 1947.  She was especially proud of becoming a Registered Nurse under the US Army Cadet Nurse Corps (which was established to prevent a nursing shortage during WW II).  She worked at Lockport Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1987.
 
Devoted wife of Gerald E. Bull, married June 19, 1948, First English Lutheran Church, Lockport.  This June would have been their 70th Anniversary.
 
Survived by husband, Gerald Bull; and four children Linda Stevens, Donna Macaluso both of Lockport, Richard (Sheila) Bull of Middleport, and Gary (Diane) Bull of Alleghany; also six beloved grandchildren, five great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and seven step great grandchildren.  Also sister-in-law Geraldine Luckman, nieces, nephews, and dear cousins.
 
Having attended the one room Cobblestone School House, corner of Hamm and Transit Roads, Town of Lockport, she remained active in its annual reunions, hosting many at her home.  Past member of the Town of Lockport Historical Society, Niagara County Historical Society, and active in Toenniessen Family Reunions.  She taught Sunday School at First English Lutheran Church.

OCALA, FL — Donald Toenniessen, age 89, of Ocala, FL, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013. He was born in Wilson, NY on February 14, 1924. Donald served in the US Army during WWII. He met and married his beloved wife, Helen Toenniessen, to whom he was married for over 50 years. Donald owned and operated "Don's Grocery" in Royalton Center, NY, before retiring to Florida. Donald was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ocala. In New York he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gasport.

He is survived by his children, Karen (Gary) Gardner of Gasport, NY, Robert (Karen) Schultz of Bradenton, FL, Peter (Michelle) Toenniessen of Albion, NY, Molly McIntyre of Sebastian, FL, Richard (Primrose) Schultz of Ocala, FL, and Kenneth (Tara) Toenniessen of Lockport, NY. Donald is also survived by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. LOCKPORT — Brenda Jane (Schuman) Swigert, age 66, entered into peaceful rest on Thursday, September 6, 2012. Born December 29, 1945 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Wayne Schuman and Betty Toenniessen Schuman Bojarski.

Brenda lived and worked on the family farm in Wilson, then married Rudolph DeGee and had two children. In 1981 she married George Swigert and moved to Lakeland, FL in 2000. Brenda was an avid gardener, enjoyed boating and loved taking care of her many pets throughout the years.

Surviving her are two children, son, Dale (Katrina) DeGee of Wilson, NY and daughter, Lisa (James) Meyers of Wilson, NY. Step-mother of Ronald A. Swigert of Vancover, WA and the late Robert E. Swigert. She is also survived by her siblings, a brother, Gary Schuman of Knoxville, TN and Mary Ellen (Whitney) Barnum of Wilson, NY. Grandmother of Amber and Jennifer Meyers, Kiersten Wilson, Elisabeth Johnson, Makayla Swigert and Tianna Swigert, as well as two great-grandchildren, Audrie and Jaydyn. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mary Ellen Barnum, born on October 1, 1950 in Niagara Falls to parents Wayne and Betty (Toenniessen) Schuman. She attended school in Wilson and rode horses. At 22, she met Lynn Barnum and on October 13th 1974 they married. They raised two children, Tera and Nathan.
Mary Ellen thrived with her horticulture degree and could get anything to grow. In 2006, she graduated from the New York Institute of Massage and was able to peruse her true passion of massage therapy. Mary Ellen loved helping and healing people, working out of her home as well as Journey II Health & Access Physical Therapy. Over the last decade, Mary Ellen and her husband have enjoyed tending to the animals on their farm while taking buggie rides together at night.
Mary Ellen is loved by the late David Biore (son); her devoted husband, Whitney Lynn; her daughter, Tera Barnum (Jennifer Saarinen) and Nathan (Elizabeth) Barnum; her grandchildren, Levi and Emmitt; brother, Gary Schuman (late Elaine), late Brenda (George) Swigert; sister-in-law, Rebecca (Richard) Tillitson; brother-in-law, Harlos (Pamela) Barnum; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Molly Ann Toenniessen McIntyre, age 64, passed away unexpectedly at her residence in Roseland, Florida, on March 10, 2015. Molly was born in Lockport, New York, on February 22, 1951, to Donald and Corinne Scholtz Toenniessen.

She lived in Lockport and married Garry Donald McIntyre in 1968 ,who passed away in 1973. In 1974, she moved to Orlando with their two children, Todd Anthony and Patrick John; grand-son Chance Braswell. In 1983, they moved to Vero Beach, FL, where she built a life in law enforcement at the Vero Beach Police Department.

Molly enjoyed an active lifestyle. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed fishing, photography, reading and writing. She was a police officer and detective for a total of 22 years and retired the late 1990's.

Molly is survived by her two sons; Todd Anthony (Patti Warren, fiance) and Patrick John; grandson Chance Braswell; her brothers, Peter (Michelle) Toenniessen and Ken (Tara) Toenniessen; her step-brothers, Bob( Karen) Schultz and Richard (Primrose) Schultz; and her step-sister, Karen (Gary)Gardner; many close friends and her loyal four-legged companion, Elle. She was preceded in death by her mother, Corinne Scholtz Toenniessen, father and step-mother, Donald and Helen Toenniessen, her brothers, Raymond and John Toenniessen and step-brothers, Ronald and Randy Schultz.

There will be a visitation 3:00-4:00 PM, with a service following at 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home.
