    BUFFALO — Charles B. "Bud" Stewart, Sr., 74, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012 in Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY, following a brief illness. Born on October 13, 1937 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Ernest and Rose (Jones) Stewart.

    Mr. Stewart attended schools in Canada and came to the Niagara Falls, NY area in the early 1950's. On October 17, 1953, Bud, as he was known by family and friends, married the former Delores D. Dell. For 36 years, he worked as a Foreman in the shipping department, for Nabisco, until his retirement in 1992. Following his retirement, Mr. Stewart and his wife spent the winter months in Florida. Bud was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, NY, Hyde Park Golf Course in Niagara Falls, NY, New Smyrna Beach Golf Course in New Smyrna Beach, FL, the Moose Lodge in New Smyrna Beach and the Eagles Lodge in Port Orange, FL. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, horse racing and vacationing with his best friends, Sam and Dorothy Gatto. Above all, Mr. Stewart loved spending time with his family and friends.

    Mr. Stewart was a proud man. Proud of his family, proud of his heritage and all that he accomplished in his lifetime. "Not too bad for a kid that only went through 8th grade." Bud had a lust for life and love of family and friends. He woke up early every morning and was always whistling. The Florida neighbors used to say that once he came back to Florida for the winter, they didn't need to set their alarm clocks while he was there. Mr. Stewart dearly loved his farm in Fort Erie. Bud had started a partnership with four other brothers in thoroughbred racing as a hobby. Previous to that with Sam Gatto (his best friend) in harness racing. They had owned two standard bred horses and drove to Beamsville, Ontario every day to train. Later, Mr. Stewart went on to venture with four of his brothers and later with his son into thoroughbred racing. They built their own barn and had seven stalls and a tack room. They bred a couple of mares and enjoyed watching the foals running around in the corrals.

    In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, Mr. Stewart is survived by two children, Gail (Robert) Tierney and Charles B. (Darla) Stewart, Jr.; five grandchildren, Stephanie Marie (David) Tobey, Jeremy (Tonya) Tierney, Melody Stewart, James Clark and Jill Clark; two great-grandsons, Brandon Charles Tierney and Christopher Robert Tobey; two sisters, Marjorie (late John) Merritt and Nancy (John) Gauthier; two brothers, Clifford (Linda) Stewart and Thomas (Ann) Stewart; his extended family, the Gatto's; the Guiliani's and too many to name them all; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by his siblings, Maude (late Michael) Lessick, Russell (late Carmella) Stewart, Edward (Beverly) Stewart, Robert (Edna) Stewart, Victor (late Margaret) Stewart, Fred (Anne) Stewart and David (Mary Lou) Stewart; his mother and father-in-law, Frank (late Lillian) Dell and two brothers-in-law, Robert (Sandra) Dell and Richard (Marjorie) Garrow.

    There will be no prior visitation. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094; or to Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, P.O.
