LOCKPORT, Aug. 11-Samuel
T. Argue, 89, of 342 South street
who for 38 years was a member of
the Hides and Tallow firm of Argue
and Wilde at 7-9 Ray street died
yesterday at his home, 342 South
street, after an illness of four
months.
Born April 7, 1864 in Kitchener,
Ont., Mr. Argue came to this city
as a young man and was first employed
at McKim foundry. He then
worked for Louis Vedt in the Hides
and Tallow store which he later
purchased under the firm name of
Argue and Wilde.
Mr. Argue formerly served as
a deputy under Sheriffs James A.
Campbell and Ralph Irish both of
Niagara Falls. He was a member
ol Unity lodge, 90, IOOF, a past
grand marshal and past district
deputy of Niagara county. He also
served as chief patriarch of Niagara
Union encampment, captain of Canton,
Niagara, No. 7, and was a
member of the major general staff
of the state of New York, Patriarch
Militant. He attended Plymouth
Congregational church.
Surviving are his wife Lillian
Argue, a daughter, Mrs. Edward
Benedict. Rocky River, O., a son,
Willard Pencille, Lockport; two
sisters. Mrs. Charles Finley, Mrs.
Thomas Wiles, both of Lockport.
Services will be held Thursday
at 2 o'clock at the Prudden funeral
home. 242 Genesee street. Burial
will be in Glenwood cemetery.
