    LOCKPORT-A retired Simonds employe, John
    P. Arter, 65, of 179 Church St., died today (Feb. 4,
    1966) in Lockport Memorial Hospital a short time
    after his admission.
    The fire department first
    aid squad was called to his
    home at 12:53 a.m. after he
    suffered difficulty -breathing
    and assisted him with
    an inhalator for 20 minutes
    before he was taken to the
    hospital. He had been in
    failing health recently.
    Born Oct 25, 1900, in
    Pennsylvania, the son of
    Lafayette and Annie Troupe
    Arter, he bad lived here the
    last 45 years. He had been
    employed for 26 years as
    an electrician at Simonds
    Saw & Steel Co. here, until
    his retirement last October.
    He was a member of
    Trinity Lutheran Church
    and United Steel Workers
    Local 2857.
    Surviving are his wife,
    Clara E. Lemke Arter; a
    son, Arnold B. Arter, Lockport;
    five grandchildren;
    three .brothers, Howard L.
    Arter, Lockport, David W.
    and Wilbur A. Arter, Broadview,
    Mont.; two sisters,
    Mrs. Ellen Carlin, South
    Daytona, Fla., and Mrs.
    Stella Hackleman, Denver,
    Colo., and several nieces
    and nephews.
    B e g i n n i n g Saturday,
    friends may call from 2-5
    and 7-9 p.m. at the Prudden
    «nd Kandt Funeral
    Home. A service will be
    conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday
    by Rev, Ernest E.
    Heyer, pastor of Trinity
    Lutheran Church. Burial
    will be in Cold Springs
    Cemetery.

    LOCKPORT - Howard L.
    Arter, 67, of 142 Chestnut St.,
    died at Lockport Memorial
    Hospital Tuesday (Dec. 2, 1969)
    after a long illness.
    A native of Augustaville, Pa.,
    he was born Nov. 29, 1902, the
    son of Lafayette and Annie
    Troupe Arter and came to
    Lockport in the early 1920s.
    He was employed at the for-
    mer Simonds Saw and Steel Co.,
    and for the past 25 years work-
    ed for Harrison Radiator
    Division, General Motors Corp.
    He was a member of Emma-
    nuel United Methodist Church
    and served on the official board
    of that church and on the board
    of ushers.
    He was a member of the
    United Lodge IOOF 98 and was
    past noble grand of the lodge.
    He was also a member of
    Niagara Union Escarpment 19
    and the Lockport Lodge 73,
    F&AM.
    He is survived by his widow,
    Dorothy Curchin Arter; two
    daughters, Mrs. Kent (Joan)
    Crea and Mrs. Albert (Barbara)
    Bernard, both of Lockport; a
    brother, David Arter of Byron,
    N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Stella
    Hackelman of Lucerne Valley,
    Calif., and Mrs. ellen Carlin,
    also of Byron, and five
    grandchildren.
    Friends may call today from
    2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at
    the Prudden and Kandt Funeral
    Home. Services will be held at
    11 a.m. Thursday at Enmanuel
    United Methodist Church. The
    Rev. Robert M. Rowsam will
    officiate.
    Burial will be in Cold Spring
    cemetery. Memorials may be
    made to the American Cancer
    Fund.

    Obituary of Joan A. Crea

    Joan A. Crea passed away June 9, 2022 at Elderwood in Lockport.  Joan was born April 21, 1932 daughter of Howard and Dorothy (Curchin) Arter.  Joan and her beloved husband were married 64 years.  Lt. Kent J. Crea USAF and Joan met at a church picnic and he proposed marriage five days later!  They enjoyed their military life at the Niagara Falls Air Base during their early years together.  Joan was a Lockport High School graduate and completed two years of medical secretarial training at St. Joseph’s Secretarial Institute in Lockport.  She retired after nearly thirty years employed in doctor’s offices.  Upon retirement she volunteered at the American Red Cross, Meals On Wheels and was a former member of the Lockport  YWCA Board.  Joan was also a member of Friends of the Library Save-A-Pet, the Dale Association, and a 50 year plus member of the Niagara County Historical Society.  She was a Cradle Roll member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and remained a life-long member.  Joan studied both piano and pipe organ, enjoyed decorating her home and quilting.  Her quilts and famous homemade oatmeal cookies were shared by many.  Kent and Joan traveled throughout the United States and to several European Countries. 
    Joan felt she had a blessed life with Kent and their wonderful children Christopher (Irene) Crea, Barry (Aurora) Crea, and Katherine (Barry) Kibbe.  She also dearly loved her grandchildren Ann Kibbe, Charles (Bonnie) Kibbe, Elizabeth Crea, Samuel Crea, Angela Crea, Megan (Nick) Boudreau, Caroline Crea, and Daniel (Jamie) Crea; and her beautiful great grandchildren Selah and Talihah Kibbe. 
    Joan was predeceased by her dear sister Barbara Bernard Brimmer.  She is also survived by her much loved nieces, Molly Kettler and Mary Beth Greene; great nieces Alicia Mitrowitz and Theresa Kettler and predeceased by great nephew Garrett Greene.  She was an “Adopted Aunt Joan” to Tammy & Mike McEachon and their family.

    Barbara (Arter) Bernard Brimmer, 84, of Conneaut, Ohio and formerly of Daytona Beach, Florida passed away Sunday, May 5, 2019 at her home with her daughter Mary Beth and friend Tammy at her side.  She was born April 6, 1935 in Lockport, NY.  She was the daughter of Howard and Dorothy (Curchin) Arter.
    Barbara was a licensed practical nurse (LPN) for over fifty years.  She worked for Lockport Memorial Hospital for twenty-eight years, Ormond Beach Memorial Hospital for seventeen years, and was a private home health care nurse.
    Barbara was a very kind and loving person and always caring for others. She was an avid reader.
    Survivors include her children, Molly (Carl) Bernard Kettler of Evanston, IL and Mary Beth (Rich Berkowitz) Bernard Greene of Conneaut; also honorary Florida/Ohio mom to Tammy (Mike) McEachon of Lockport, NY; grandchildren, Alicia (Brian Mitrowitz) Kettler, Theresa Kettler and Garrett Greene; sister, Joan (Kent) Arter Crea of Lockport, NY.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Albert C. Bernard, Jr. in January, 1979, and second husband George Brimmer in August, 2018.
    At Barbara’s request, no services will be held.

    Mildred Janice Rubert, 78, of Lockport, New York, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Niagara County Hospice after a short illness. Mildred 'Millie' was born in Lockport to David Arter and Irene (Werth) Oakes on May 27, 1938. Millie married Nicholas H. Rubert on October 15, 1958 in Lockport. Millie was a proud employee of Chet's Dog House for three generations. Millie enjoyed donating to numerous organizations, loved the casino, bingo, Cafora Restaurant and spending time with her family and friends. Millie's love for her grandsons, Coulton and Brandon, was immense and they always brought the biggest smile to her face. Millie is preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Rubert; her mother-in-law, Mary Rubet; mother and step-father, Joseph and Irene Oaks; brother, Robert Arter; and sister, Carol Oakes Conden. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Rose (Paul) Wagoner; grandsons, Coulton and Brandon LaRoach; and their father, Roger LaRoach; brother-in-law, Joseph (Donna) Rubert; sisters, Jane Oakes (John) Cogovan, Lynda Oakes Kirkman; brother, Richard Oakes; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Arter; step-sister, Betty Monagon. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
