    afternoon. He was a native of the
    Town of Lewiston and had resided
    in this city for 65 years.
    Mr. Bale Is survived by his wife.
    Mrs. Johanna Bale: a daughter. Mrs.
    Joseph Martin, of this city: a sister.
    Mrs. George Wager, of this city,
    and a brother, Roger Bale, of Ashtabula.
    Ohio. He was a member of
    the carpenters' union.
    Funeral services will be held at
    the family home at 2:30 p. m. tomorrow,
    with the Rev. Arthur H.
    Schmoyer officiating. Interment will
    be made in Oakwood cemetery.

    -Ellsworth Bale, 75 years old. of the
    Swan road, Modeltown, died late
    yesterday afternoon at Mt. St.
    Mary's hospital, Niagara Falls.
    Mr. Bale was born In Orleans
    county but had resided here for
    many years. He was formerly employed
    by the William A. Rogers
    company at Niagara Falls. He retired
    in 1928.
    Mr. Bale Is survived by one son,
    Ellsworth E, Bale, of Modeltown;
    two brothers, Edward and Roger C.
    Bale, of Niagara Falls; one sister,
    Mrs. Ida Wager, of Niagara Falls,
    and three grandchildren.

    the Garner funeral home, Eighteenth

    the Women's Benefit association and
    25-year member of Riverdale Rebekah
    lodge, died late yesterday in
    Buffalo after a long illness.
    Funeral services for Mrs. Wager
    will be conducted at the Gridley
    Funeral home at 2 p.m. on Friday
    by the Rev. Jesse J. Simoson.
    Born at Lewiston, Mrs. Wager
    had lived in Niagara Falls most of
    her life. She was a long-time member
    of the First Christian church.
    Surviving are her husband, George
    W. Wager and three nieces, this city.
    Burial will be in Acacia Park
    cemetery.

    William Everett Bale. 61. of 1142
    Ontario avenue, a freight conductor
    for the New York Central railroad,
    was Instantly killed yesterday afternoon
    shortly after 2:05 o'clock when
    he was struck by a moving freight
    train.
    Bale, who had been an employe
    of the railroad for the last 45 years,
    was walking along one of the tracks
    in the freight yards at Suspension
    Bridge when the freight train approached
    him from the rear, knocking
    him down and running over
    him. Dr. E. E. Gilllck, acting coroner,
    investigated.
    He is survived by his wife. Elizabeth
    A. Bale: one dauehter. Evelyn
    M. Bale: two sisters. Miss Mary L.
    Dyer and Mrs. Sadie Wilkinson, all
    of this city.
    Funeral services will be held tomorrow
    afternoon at 2:30 o'clock
    from the Rhoney funeral home, with
    the Rev. William Saye officiating.
    Interment will be in Memorial Park
    cemetery.
    Dr. L. R. Hurlburt, Lockport. coroner,

    Donald W. Bale, 15-year-old Niagara
    Falls schoolboy, of 1813 South
    avenue, was almost instantly killed
    yesterday afternoon when a bicycle
    he was riding down the Indian Hill
    collided with an automobile driven
    by George L. Hudson, 52 Hermitage
    road, Rochester, at the Intersection of
    the Indian Hill and Ridge roads,
    town of Lewiston, as told in yester-
    day's Owl edition of the Gazette.
    In attempting to avoid the accident
    Hudson swerved his car off the road
    and was injured when it ran into the
    ditch. He was taken to Memorial
    hospital where he is suffering from
    back injuries today. Mr. Hudson's
    wife, his daughter Dorothy, his son,
    Fred and his son's wife, all riding in
    the car with him, were treated at the
    hospital for minor abrasions.
    Identification of the dead youth
    was established through an investigation
    started by the Gazette and continued
    by police following the acci-
    dent. The number of the bicycle was
    ascertained and traced to the Montgomery-
    Ward store in Falls street. An
    examination of the store's accounts
    led to the boy's name and address being
    found and the body was identified
    by the father, William Everett
    Bale, after it had been removed to the
    Bell Undertaking establishment.
    Coroner Harry R. Ernes, who investigated
    the fatality, Issued a certificate
    of accidental death. He was
    told by Hudson that the boy, whose
    vision was obscured by high weeds
    at the intersection, rode onto the highway
    directly into the path of the
    car.
    The youth was a graduate of North
    Junior High school and was scheduled
    to enter the Senior high school
    this fall. He was on the way to
    Modeltown at the time to visit a
    cousin. Spencer Bale. He was an accomplished
    musician and played the
    electric guitar in Evan White's Fretted
    Instrument band.
    Surviving, besides his parents, Mr.
    and Mrs. William Everett Bale, is
    a sister. Evelyn.
    Funeral services will be held Saturday
    at 2:30 p. m. from the Bell
    Undertaking establishment, with the
    Rev. Thomas Tomerlln officiating. Interment
    will be In Dlckersonville
    cemetery.

    Borks saw t h e boat capsizing an>l •
    told L a v e r n e ' S p a r l i n g , who a l t h o u gh
    lie couldn't swim, 'jumped into t h e
    water and made a desperate effort to
    save his brother. His efforts were in
    vain and he narrowly escaped losing
    his life.
    Charles Abond, of Third street, this
    city, when hearing about the acci-
    dent shortly after it happened rowed
    three-fourths of a mile from the lake
    recovered the body of the drowned boy
    about a half hour later. Several per-
    sons worked over the body for half
    an hour until Coroner Fred r. Pickett
    arrived and pronunced the lad dead.
    Sparling is survived by his par-
    ents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Sparl-
    ing; one sister, Elizabeth, and four
    brothers, Laverne, Kenneth, Raymond
    and Ellwood, all of this city. The
    funerl will be held Wednesday after-
    noon at 4 o'clock from Spiph-
    any Church. The Rev. David Weeks
    will officiate, burial will be in Oak-
    wood cemetery. Sparling was em-
    ployed by the New York Central rail-
    road as a clerk in the engine house
    at the north end of the city for about
    two yers and was a member of the
    Brotherhood of Railway Clerks.
