    NEWFANE — Bertha H. (Sherman) Clute, age 86, of Gasport, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Newfane. Born August 25, 1926 in Cambria, Bertha was the daughter of the late Warren and Ethel (Smith) Eckert.

    Bertha had worked at Odd Fellow and Rebekah Health Care Facility in Lockport as a nurse's aide and personal care nurse. She retired in 1969. She married Perry L. Sherman June 6, 1942. Mr. Sherman died in 1974. She married Donald Clute February 12, 1977 in Lockport. Mr. Clute died on November 2, 1995. Bertha enjoyed gardening and taking care of her home. She loved camping and being in nature. She was happiest when her children and grandchildren were all together.

    Bertha was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Tonawanda. She had lived in Gasport for 30 years; previously of Wilson, NY.

    Surviving are her children, Joanne (David) Baker of Hemet, CA, James Sherman of Kenmore, Bonnie Blake of North Tonawanda, Diane (Alexander) Nalzynski of North Tonawanda, Dennis (Lyn) Sherman of Woodland Park, CO, and Wendy (Edward) Sulowski of North Tonawanda. She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Sherman. Step-mother of Jon Clute, Walter Clute and Susan Clute. Sister of Anna (Lauren) Budde of Appleton and the late Gertrude Becken, Nancy Eckert and Richard Eckert. Bertha is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

    Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane on Saturday, July 27, 2013, from 10 AM until 12 Noon. A memorial service will be held immediately following. Inurnment will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria, NY.

    SANBORN — Gertrude M. Becken, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at her home, under the care of her family and Niagara Hospice.

    She was born in West Shelby, on February 17, 1928, the daughter of the late Warren and Ethel (Smith) Eckert.

    Mrs. Becken was employed at Wurlitzer and National Grinding Wheel before becoming a hairdresser, working out of her home for many years.

    She was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at North Ridge, the Pekin Ladies Auxiliary for over 40 years, Home Bureau, the Red Hat Ladies and a member with the Sanborn, Ransomville and Newfane Senior Citizens. Mrs. Becken enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, doing ceramics and making porcelain dolls.

    She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Carl R. Becken; three sons, Ronald C. (Elaine) Becken of Sanborn, Richard C. (Diane) Becken of the Town of Wheatfield, and Randy C. (Denise) Becken of Sanborn; one daughter, Cheryl L. (fiance Gerald Wilburn) Brosnan of Cottondale, AL; two sisters, Bertha Clute and Anna (Larry) Budde. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Becken was the sister of the late Richard Eckert.

    The family will be present on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM, at St. Peter Lutheran Church North Ridge, 4169 Church Road, Lockport, NY, with the Rev. Robert L. Hoffman officiating. Memorials may be made in her name to St. Peter's Church or to Niagara Hospice. Inurnment in White Chapel Memorial Park, Town of Amherst, NY.

    Jeffery K. Becken, of Kure Beach, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. He was born in Lewiston, NY on March 15, 1972, the son of Ronald C. and Elaine (Jaquay) Becken of Sanborn, NY.

    Jeff graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School in 1990 and from Rochester Institute of Technology, with his degree in Civil Engineering. Before moving to North Carolina in 1995, Jeff was involved with the family farm. Jeff was the Vice President of Catlin Engineers & Scientists in Wilmington, NC. He was actively involved with his son's sporting events and enjoyed surfing, running and competing in Triathlons. He was a member of the Lifepoint Community Church in Wilmington.

    In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Nicole (Beecher) Becken; one son, Jared Becken; a sister, Amber (Steve) Stainbrook; many aunts, uncles, cousins, several nieces and nephews. He was the grandson of the late Carl and Gertrude Becken.

    The family will be present on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, NY. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. Peter Lutheran Church North Ridge, 4169 Church Road, Lockport, NY, with the Rev. Robert L. Hoffman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Life Point Community Church, 3534 South College Rd., Suite A, Wilmington, NC 28412.
