PEKIN, Oct. 24 - A double funeral
that of Mrs. Fredericka Witkop and
that of Mrs. Augusta Bruce, was held
at the St. Andrew's Evangelical Luth-
eran Church of Pekin, yesterday af-
ternoon. Rev. Charles a. Schmidt of-
ficiated. The services were held for
Mrs. Bruce at 2 o'clock from the home
of her son, Bertram Bruce and at 2:30
o'clock for Mrs. Witkop from the home
of her son, Augustus Witkop. The ser-
vices at the church were conducted
jointly at 3 o'clock.
Friends and relatives had gathered
in great numbers to pay the last re-
spects to the deceased. Floral offer-
ings were many and beautiful.
Mrs. Witkop was ill only three weeks
and succumbed to heart disease and
old age. She was 80 years of age.
She is survived by her husband, three
sons and a daughter.
Mrs. Bruce died Sunday afternoon
after a lingering illness. She was 76
years old. She is survived by two sons
and two daughters.
Mrs. Witkop and Mrs. Bruce were
sisters-in-law and died within 20 hours
of each other.
Interment was in the Lutheran
cemetery of Pekin.

Mrs. Emma Strassburg, 81, died this morning in her home, 63 Stenzil St., after a long illness. Mrs. Strassburg was a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas. She was the mother of Edward, Albert and August Strassburg, Mrs. Arthur Ostwald and Mrs. Edward Berndt, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. The Rev. Paul E. Fretthold will officiate and burial will be in the Elmlawn Cemetery.

William J. Witkop, 75, died suddenly in his home, 27 Stenzel St., after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Witkop, a native of Tonawanda, had lived in North Tonawanda 40 years. Survivors include his widow, Julia, nee Heuer; two daughters, Mrs. Bernhardt Moll and Mrs. Albert Jendrian; two sons, Frederick and William J. Jr.; 10 grandchildren, all of North Tonawanda; two brothers, Albert of Tonawanda, August of Pekin, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Strassburg, North Tonawanda. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St., and at 2:30 p.m. in the St. Marks’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Fretthold will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Born in the Town of Cambria, March 17, 1893, the son of Henry and Augusta Grossman Witkop, he lived all his life on the farm where he was born until the death of his wife, Veronica Gombert Witkop, two years ago. Since that time he made his home with his children. He was employed by the State Highway Department for 20 years and retired eight years ago. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Philip Martin and Mrs. William Strothman. both of this community; six sons, Wilbert, Robert, Norman and Kenneth Witkop, this community. Erwin Witkop, Niagara Falls, and James Witkop, North Tonawanda, two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Stoelting and Mrs, Lydia Eggert and a brother George Witkop, all of North Tonawanda; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. August F. "Sonny" Strassburg Jr., 81, who worked as a millwright with DuPont Co. in Niagara Falls for more than 20 years, died Wednesday (May 3, 2000) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, following a three-month illness. He was born in North Tonawanda and lived on Stenzel Avenue. He attended the former Gratwick Grammar School there as well. Strassburg worked for several years in production at the former Buffalo Bolt County, North Tonawanda, and as an inspector at the former Bell Aircraft here. A veteran of World War II, he entered the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942 and served as a machinist with the 893rd Air Engineer Squadron in the European Theater until honorably discharged in 1946. Strassburg then worked as a millwright at DuPont, retiring in the mid-1970s. He was a lifelong member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, and was an airplane and air show enthusiast. His wife, the former Violet R. Mellenthine, died in 1978. Survivors include two sons, Terry A. of North Tonawanda and Gary D. of Niagara Falls; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday in Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls. Burial will be in St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery, North Tonawanda.

Edward W. Krull, a retired millwright and the last surviving charter member of the Pekin Volunteer Fire Company, died Wednesday (Aug. 14, 1996) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston. Krull, 91, was a resident of the Crestwood Health Care Center. He was born in Wheatfield and was a former resident of North Tonawanda and Niagara Falls. He worked as a millwright for 28 years at the former Hooker Chemical Corp. in North Tonawanda. He retired in 1967. Krull and his wife, the former Ida P. Schoder, who died in 1987, enjoyed farming and sold produce at a roadside stand in front of their Cayuga Drive home in Niagara Falls. He was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz. Krull is survived by four sons, Karl of Ohio, Kenneth of Niagara Falls, Howard of Texas and Daniel of Ransomville; a daughter, Eva Miller; a sister, Loretta Heiman of Niagara Falls; 23 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. LOCKPORT - Clarence G. Krull, 59, of 5033 Lower Mountain Road, Town of Cambria, died Monday, (Feb 16, 1970) at Lockport Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born Feb. 20, 1910 in the Town of Wheatfield, the son of Philip and Rose Schendel Krull. He. was an employee of Simonds Steel Division, Murray-Wallace Corp., here for the past 22 years until his retirement a year ago because of ill health. He and his wife, the former Mildred Fiegel, who survives him, celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary Saturday. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church , Lockport, and Niagara Lodge 375, F & AM, of Lockport. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Maxwell (Loraine) Gately Jr. of Lackport; a son, Clarence P. Krull of Newfane, six sisters, Mrs. Floyd (Lydia) Fiegel of Getzville, Mrs. Harry (Frances)
Bachman of Lockport, Mrs.
Herbert (Gertrude) Matheis of
Lockport, Mrs. Dorothy Bald
and Mrs. Frank (Helen) Loiars
of Lockport and Mrs. Robert

LOCKPORT — Lydia A. Fiegel passed away Friday, May 7, 2010, in Odd Fellows and Rebekah H.C.F., Lockport. Born September 16, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Rose Schendel Krull. Lydia was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda. She enjoyed reading, gardening and attending her church. Lydia was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Fiegel, who passed away in 1987; and her son, Richard Fiegel, who passed away in 2004.

Lydia is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Robert) Hugar of Lockport; her grandchildren, Wayne (Michelle) Hugar of Virginia and Susan (John) Rosmann of California; great-grandmother of Regan and Ryan Hugar and Miranda and Remy Rosmann. She was the sister of George Krull of Florida, Frances Bachman of Wheatfield, Gertrude (Herbert) Matheis of Newfane, Dorothy Bald of Lockport, Helen (Frank) Loiars of Lockport and Alice Bugenhagen of Lockport. Lydia was predeceased by her brothers, Clarence and Harold Krull. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Sunday 2 to 5 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, where services will be held Monday morning at 9 AM. The family offers special thanks to Julia, Gayla, Bev and Kelly who took care of Frances while at home, and offers thanks to the staff at Northgate who took care of both their mom and dad.

Harold (Pete) Krull, 91, of Davenport, FL, formerly of Wheatfield, NY, died in hospice care of congestive heart failure on Tuesday, July 28th. A World War II veteran, he was awarded the Bronze Star as well as numerous other commendations. He ran the family business, Krull's Inn, on Niagara Falls Boulevard for several years and worked for Niagara Wheatfield school district until his retirement. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Betty Krull (nee Rosebrock), in April of 2014.

He is survived by two daughters, Sue (Pat) Langer of Davenport, FL; Sally Zito, of Lewiston, NY; a son, Peter Krull (Melissa Booth) of Asheville, NC; and a step-son, William (Mary) Witkopf of South Pasadena, FL. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd. in North Tonawanda on Friday, September 25th from 7-9 P.M. Alice Mildred (Krull) Bugenhagen (June 6, 1934 - January 21, 2019)
Alice passed away January 21, 2019 in her sleep at the age of 84 under the wonderful care of Elderwood of Lockport. Alice was born June 6, 1934 at the home of her parents, Philip and Rosa (Schendel) Krull, Ellicott Creek Road, Tonawanda, NY.
Alice was proud of attending the one-room schoolhouse on Tonawanda Creek Road, under Elizabeth Bates, and later attending Parker High where she met the love of her life, Robert E. Bugenhagen. Alice and Bob married April 1, 1951 and enjoyed 45 years of marriage until his death September 17, 1996.
In her prime, Alice enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, and quilting. She will always be remembered for her delicious carrot cake made for Jesus birthday each year. In later years she enjoyed going out for breakfast with her dear sisters.
Alice was the last born daughter of nine children. Predeceased siblings were Clarence (Mildred) Krull, Lydia (Floyd) Fiegel, Harold (Irene) Krull, George (Laura) Krull, Frances (Harry) Bachman; and brothers-in-law, Elton Bald and Frank Loiars. Surviving siblings are Gertrude (Herbert) Matheis, Dorothy Bald, and Helen Loiars. Alice was also aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Mother of Debra Rose (Michael) Allport; grandmother of Christian (Christine) Allport and Philip (Erika) Allport, all of Lockport, NY; great-grandmother of one great-grandson and awaited the summer arrival of a great-granddaughter.
At Alice's request, her body will be donated to The University at Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program. There will be no visitation or service as per Alice's wishes.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of North Tonawanda, a charter member of Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the Niagara County Volunteer Firemen's Association. He also was a member of the state Firemen's Association and a social member of Friendship Post 1168, American Legion.

Evelyn R. Maerten , 86, a longtime Sanborn resident who moved here three years ago, died Friday (April 11, 2003) in Lockport Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Maerten was born Evelyn Witkop in Lewiston. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School.
She worked for 15 years as an assembly worker in the Wurlitzer Co. plant, North Tonawanda.
Mrs. Maerten was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid Society, the Lutheran Service Society and the Parent-Teacher League.
She was also a member of the Friendship Club in Sanborn.
Her husband of 49 years, Philip E., died in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Gary Sr. of Lockport; a daughter, Beverly Zdrojewski of Hartland; two brothers, Robert Witkop and James Witkop, both of North Tonawanda; a sister, Edith Strothmann of Sanborn; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 453 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, North Tonawanda.

Norman "Jack" Witkop, 73, of Lockport Road, a retired Niagara County highway maintenance supervisor, died Wednesday (Aug. 21, 1996) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda.
Born in Cambria, he moved to Wheatfield in 1945.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He was employed by the Niagara County Highway Department for 351/2 years as a highway maintenance supervisor until retiring in 1984.
Witkop was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda.
He was a charter member of Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion, and a charter member of the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company and its Benevolent Association.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Norma R. Masters; a son, Duane of North Tonawanda; two daughters, Rita Warszawski of North Tonawanda and Joan Adams of Niagara Falls; two brothers, James and Robert, both of North Tonawanda; and two sisters, Evelyn Maerten and Edith Strothmann.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Old Falls Boulevard, North Tonawanda. Burial will be in Wheatfield Cemetery.

James H. Witkop, age 90, of North Tonawanda, November 24, 2014 in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a brief illness. James was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was the former President of the A. E. Gombert Lumber Co. and was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. James enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.

He was the husband of the late Althea A. and Doris Gombert. Beloved father of Jay R. (Nancy) Witkop of North Tonawanda. He is survived by two sisters,

On Thursday, September 8, 2022, Janet A. (Brauer) Engel, loving mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away at the age of 80. Janet was born on October 27th, 1941, in Lockport, NY, to Albert and Anna (Dryer) Brauer. She attended nursing school and became an RN; she then joined the Army Reserves and held the rank of lieutenant. After serving her country, she went on to earn her bachelor's then master's degrees. She raised one son, Geoffrey. Janet had many interests such as biking, gardening, traveling, volunteering, sightseeing and lunches with old and new friends. Janet was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Richard Brauer. She is survived by her son, Geoffrey and his wife, Pamela; her grandson, Blake and his wife, Carli. A small Service will be held at the Mount Olivet Cemetery Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel on October 20th at 12:00 PM.

A Graduate of North Tonawanda High School, Doris was a long time Legal Secretary for the law firm Cohen, Swados, Wright, Hanifin, Bradford, and Brett. Doris was also a life-time member of St. John Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, where she also attended grade school.

Doris had a passion for her Cocker Spaniel dogs. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, the occasional Manhattan, and crossword puzzles. She is survived by her daughter Holly (Novotny) & Richard Yager Sr., son Joseph Maglie, granddaughter Jamie (Fuhr) & Keith Krantz, grandson Richard Yager Jr., and Cocker Spaniel Zoe.

Krull, Karl W 12/22/1927 - 2/4/2018 Litchfield Park, AZ Karl went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 4, 2018. Beloved husband of Ruth for almost 66 years. Loving father of Marie of Michigan, Denise (Tom) and Thomas of Arizona. Grandfather of Geneva of Tennessee. Karl was born in North Tonawanda, New York and was the eldest of six and last remaining of his generation. Karl was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy and served on the Submarines USS Piper and ship keeper of the USS Cod in Cleveland, Ohio. Karl died peacefully after suffering from Alzheimer's for several years. Interment and service at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024 on Friday, March 9th at 12:30 with a reception to follow. NORTH TONAWANDA — Carol A. (nee Krull) Cramer, age 70, of North Tonawanda, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Cramer was born in the Town of Cambria, December 28, 1940, daughter of the late Wilbur and Florence Krull.

Mrs. Cramer graduated from Starpoint High School. Carol's greatest joy was taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

AMHERST — Nancy A. Hugar passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. Born July 17, 1940, in North Tonawanda, NY, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Lydia Krull Fiegel. Nancy was a Department Manager at Walmart for 15 years in Temecula, CA. She was a member of the Women's Christian Group and the Silver Sneakers, and she enjoyed traveling, historical and cultural museums. Nancy was also a Professional Coupon Clipper.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert S. Hugar; mother of Wayne (Sarah Jane) Hugar of Woodbridge, VA and Susan (John) Rosmann of Torrance, CA; grandmother of Miranda, Remy, Regan and Ryan. Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Richard Fiegel.

Friends may call Wednesday 2 to 4 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Pkwy., Amherst, NY 14228, would be appreciated by the family.
