of William J. Bremer died
Wednesday afternoon, March, 20
in Ossening after a long illness.
A native of Buffalo, she was
82 years old and had spent
most iof her life in Dunkirk and
lived in Sheridan. For the past
four years she had resided with
her :son in Ossening.
Mrs. Bremer was a member of
Grace Lutheran Church of Dunkirk
and True Union Rebekah
lodge in Sheridan.
Besides her husband, she is
survived by three sons, Howard
F. Bremer, of Ossining, Norman
C. Bremer of Ithaca and Lloyd
W. Bremer of Nyack; a sister,
Mrs. T. Graiban of Niagara
Falls: three grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews

GRABAU - Mrs. Martha Grabau, of 140 West North Street, Buffalo, Saturday, July 15, 1967, in the Carlton Nursing Home, Buffalo. Survived by her husband, Theodore D. Grabau, 4 Sons, Alvin J., of Fayetteville, N.Y., Rev. Harold T., of Buffalo, Edgar J., of North Tonawanda, and Dr. A. Arthur Grabau, of Kenmore; a daughter, Mrs. John (Norma) Thomas. of Buffalo. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Friends may call at The Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St., at Ward Road, North Tonawanda until 11 a.m. Monday, The body will be in state in the St. James Lutheran Church from noon until 2 p.m. Monday, time of service. The family will be in attendance at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Rev. Robert Lehman will officiate. Interment in St. James Lutheran Cemetery. NORTH TONAWANDA - Mrs, Martha Gellenthien Grabau of 140 West North St., Buffalo, died today (July 15, 1967) in the Carlton Nursing Home, Buffalo, after
a long illness. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Women of the Church, Bergholz. Surviving are her husband, Theodore D. News has been received here on the
death of Norman C. Bremer, age 90, of
Ithaca, who died in Lakeside Nursing
Home there, April 7. 1988.
A native of Brocton, Mr. Bremer
spent his school years in Dunkirk,
moving to Ithaca as a member of Ted
Weem's band.
He was chief engineer at Morse
Chain Co. for 30 years and director of
Research and Development at the time
of his retirement in 1962. He was the
designer of the Hi-Vo chain drive now
used around the world on front-wheel
automotive drives. Over the course of
his life, he was granted 23 U.S.
patents.
Mr. Bremer is survived by two
daughters, Arden M. and Beverly A.
Bremer, both of Ithaca; a brother
Lloyd W. of Upper Nyack; three
grandchildren; a niece, Wendy Ciliberti
of Amherst; and a nephew, Craig
Fattey of Hamburg. He was predeceased
by his wife, Mae Bremer, who
died in 1978; and a brother, Howard F.
(Helene) of Hamburg.
Mr. Bremer was a frequent visitor to
Hamburg and had relatives and many
friends here.
Memorials may be made to the Norman
C. Bremer Prize in Physics and
Chemistry, a fund that will be
established at Ithaca High School for
students excelling in physics and
chemistry. Donations should be sent

retired college professor, who died
Aug. 26 in his 73rd year.
Dr. Bremer, professor emeritus of
history at Briarcliff College,
Briarcliff Manor, was a social
studies graduate of Fredonia State
College and received his masters
degree from the University of
Buffalo and his doctorate in history
from the University of Rochester.
A World War II Army tank
corps captain, he saw combat in the
European Theator receiving the
Bronze Star with Oak Leaf clusters
and the Purple Heart.
Surviving are his wife the former
Helene Grossman, descendent of an
old Hamburg family, a daughter,
Mrs. Joseph Cilberti of Amherst,
two brothers, Norman E. Bremer of
Ithaca and Lloyd C. Bremer of
Nyack and a granddaughter,
Christine Cilberti.

Rev. Harold T. Grabau
Former Army chaplain grew up in Bergholz
SEGUIN, TX - A memorial service for the Rev. Harold T. Grabau was held Aug. 5 in, Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seguin, TX. A retired Lutheran minister, Mr. Grabau, 86, died on July 29, 1995, at the home of his daughter, Gretchen Grabau of Houston, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Grabau, the son of Theodore and Martha Grabau, was raised in Bergholz. His father was a teacher at St. James Evangelical Lutheran School. Mr. Grabau left Bergholz in his early teens to study at the Martin Luther Seminary in Buffalo. When that school closed, he transferred to the Capital University Seminary in Columbus, OH. He was a pastor in Kansas and in Ohio early in his career. From 1943 to 1945, he served in the Army Air Forces Chaplain Corps in India. He returned to the military during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Grabau continued to serve in the Army reserves, retiring as a lieutenant colonel from the Chaplain Corps in 1962. He returned to Western New York in 1965 to serve as an administrative assistant at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Buffalo. He then transferred to a church in Scottsdale, Ariz. He retired about 15 years ago as director of development at Texas Lutheran College. His wife of 60 years, the former Dorothy Engelbert, died in 1990. In addition to his daughter, he is survived by another daughter, Dona Manley of Corpus Christi, TX; a son, Lowell Grabau of San Antonio; a brother, Dr. A. Arthur Grabau of Buffalo; several grandchildren and a great-grandchild

He was born March 25, 1913, in Bergholz, the son of Theodore and . Martha (Gallenthine) Grabau.
Mr. Grabau was the owner and founder of the E. J. Grabau Insurance Agency Inc.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and a past board member of the Niagara Lutheran Home.
He was married to Elaine G. Grabau, who died in 1986.
He is survived by three sons, Robert Grabau and Dona1d Grabau, both of North Tonawanda, and Gary Grabau of Columbia, MD.; two brothers, Dr. A. Arthur Grabau of . Kenmore and the Rev. Harold Grabau of San Antonio, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will he from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. today at the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St. Services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, With the Rev. GRABAU - A. Arthur, M.D. Dr. Greabau, a retired physician, and former local resident, died in Jupiter, Florida on Sunday, June 6, 2010. He was born in Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County, on March 11, 1917. He graduated from Niagara Falls Senior High School, and received his undergraduate education at Capital University, Columbus, Ohio. He then attended the University of Buffalo Medical School, and graduated in 1945. He became a resident physician in pulmonary diseases at Mount View Hospital, Lockport, NY, until 1950, after which he was appointed Medical Director for Tuberculosis Control at the Erie County Health Department. He retired from that position in 1972 and went into private practice until 1984. After that he divided his time between living in Florida and the Town on Tonawanda. Dr. Grabau was a past member of the American College of Chest Physicians, The American Medical Society, The American Trudeau Society, and the Erie County Medical Association. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Buffalo. His hobbies included golf, photography, and painting, as well as world travel. He is survived by is son, John Campbell Grabau, PhD and his wife Deborah and his two grandsons, Mark and Trevor Grabau. Dr. Grabau was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marie Campbell Grabau in 2006.
