First Class Robert J. Berthot,
19. son of John A. Berthot. of Linwood
avenue, and the late Eva
Berthot, was killed in action in
Germany on March 25, according
to word received from the War
department.
A graduate of the Niagara Falls
high school, Private Berthot was
employed at Gassler's bakery before
entering the army in August,
1944. He received his basic training
at Fort McClellan. Ala., and
left for overseas service in January.
1945. He saw service in Belgium,
France and Germany.
He is survived, besides by his

OBITUARY

Evelyn "Mary" Ball of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022, in Elderwood at Wheatfield.   She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on October 25, 1934, a daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth [McCormack] Berthot.
Mrs. Ball graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1952 and became a Business Office Representative with New York Telephone for over 35 years before retiring in 1992.
She was a devoted catholic who volunteered her time at the Fatima Shrine and was very generous with her time and donations.
Mrs. Ball loved spending time with her grandsons and singing with her sisters. She enjoyed cooking, baking and polishing her copper and silver.   She was an avid reader and will be remembered for her famous Thanksgiving pies.  
Mrs. Ball was the wife of the late Robert A. Ball, who passed away in January of 2018.
She is survived by  her son Tim (Jackie) Ball, two grandsons Cullen and Ryan Ball, three sisters Doreen (late Mike) Michailof, Gail (Jim) Hastings and Rita (Paul) Martin, also  many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ball was the sister of the late Ann (Bill) Ranney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a time to be announced.
Mrs. Ball donated her body to the University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association of WNY.

Doreen O'Shea Michailof
Doreen O'Shea Michailof passed into eternal rest July 15, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (nee McCormack) Berthot. She is survived by her daughters Siobhan (Gregory) Lee, Shannon Thompson and son Kevin (Rhonda) O'Shea. Doreen is also survived by stepdaughter Laura (Jim) McGee and stepson David (Sarah) Michailof. Doreen was predeceased by son Sean, husbands Senan O'Shea and Ronald "Mike" Michailof, sisters Ann and Mary and grandson Matthew. Doreen leaves behind nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. All beloved.
Doreen's greatest joy was her four sisters, her children and grandchildren. She had a flair for decorating, always presenting a warm and inviting home. This talent especially made the holidays magical.
Her body was gifted to U. B. Medical Department and internment will come at a later date. There will be a Memorial Mass at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church of Youngstown on Thursday, August 1st at 10 a.m.

James E. Berthot, 67, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away at home on July 27, 2018 while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late John Berthot and Patricia (Kelly) Winkworth.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. He attended local schools and graduated from Bishop Duffy High School. Afterwards he attended Erie County Community College where he earned his AAS Opticianry Degree. Jim served in the Army National Guard until his honorable discharge in 1976. He worked as an optician locally for many years, most recently at the Walmart Vision Center retiring in 2015. Jim was a longtime active member of the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Niagara Falls where he served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, choir member and Catholic Charities volunteer. Jim was a passionate Beatles fan and lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan. He was also an avid Buffalo Bills, Sabres and NASCAR fan. Above all, Jim will be remembered as a man of the people who was well liked, fun loving, respected and loved by all who knew him.
James was predeceased by his beloved wife and Pretty Girl of 47 years Mary Jane (Bennis) Berthot on January 28, 2018. He is survived by his children, Paul Berthot, Jill Berthot, and Angela (Brian) Gregory, two granddaughters, his brothers and sisters, Janet (Jesse) Berthot Price, Mark Berthot, Bruce (Marcia) Winkworth, Kelly Winkworth and Kevin (Virginia) Winkworth as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sean attended local schools and graduated from Lew-Port High School. He served as Vice-President and supervisor of Citi Group. He also enjoyed trivia, reading, music and cooking for his family. 

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Judy Olejar O’Shea; his son, Brendan J. O’Shea; his siblings Siobhan O’Shea Lee (Gregory); Kevin O’Shea (Rhonda) and Shannon Thompson; son- in -law of Ida and the late Frank Olejar; brother- in- law of Diane (Joseph) Achytl, and Stephen Olejar as well as his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
