Pvt. Henry G. Boehnke. son of
Mrs. Johanna Boehnke, 23 Maple
street, previously reported missing
before Rome has been killed in
action according to a telegram
from the War Department r e ceived
yesterday.
A resident of Detroit before he
entered the service, Pvt. Boehnke
was educated in Tonawanda's
schools and was active in Salem
church activities where he was a
popular singer. While living in
Tonawanda he worked at R. T.
Jones Lumber Co. and the old
T. J. Wilson Box plant.
Landed at Anzro
He entered service last year
and after training at Camp Bland-
ing, Florida he went overseas in
March of this year. He landed at
Casablanca and after a stay at
Oran landed on the Anzio beachhead
from which position he had
been fighting up the Italian boot.
He is survived by his mother,
his wife, who lives in Detroit, two
sisters and four brothers. One sister
is Mrs. Robert Sparks of Tonawanda,
the other Mrs. Alba Gulick
lives in Detroit. A brother,
Bernhardt, is in t he Pacific theater
of war. His other brothers are
Charles, 69 Thompson street, Otto
of Lockport and Walter of Maple
street.
