    A 90-year-old former Great
    Lakes lumber boat captain.
    William H. Booth, yesterday
    made his final crossing.
    Capt. Booth, w h o , h a d been in
    ill health for several weeks as a
    result of a broken hip, died in a
    Long Island nursing home
    where he was convalescing. His
    wife died Memorial Day. also
    having suffered a broken hip
    shortly before her death.
    Capt. Booth's death marks the
    end of a long line of skippers in
    the Booth family. The call of the
    sea was also answered by his
    father, four brothers and one of
    his own sons, who died six years
    ago.
    A native of Lambton. Ont..
    Capt. Booth be-fan his more
    than half-century career as a
    Great Lakes skipper shuttling
    lumber boats from various
    logging ports to North Tona-
    wanda when it was the
    "Lumber City."
    His own ship, "The Hazard."
    was retired when he began a
    career as captain on lake-going
    ships for the Huron-Portland
    Cement Co. out of Port Huron.
    Mich.
    When he was 65. Capt. Booth
    and his son. the late Capt.
    Fletcher W. Booth of North
    Tonawanda, joined forces to
    pilot destroyers and PT boats
    from shipyards at the Defoe
    Shipbuilding Co., Bay City.
    Mich., to the Navy yards in
    Chicago for use during World
    War II.
    Their World War II task
    completed. Capt. Fletcher W.
    Booth opened the Pilot House
    Re s t a u r a n t in Nor th Tona-
    wanda. The restaurant still is op-
    erated by his widow.
    Capt. William H. Booth and
    his wife first retired to Saginaw,
    Mich., later moving to the home
    of a daughter, Mrs. Donald
    Hauffe of Baldwin, Long Island.
    Besides Mrs. Hauffe, Capt.
    Booth is survived by two other
    daughters, Mrs. Edward
    Snowman of Tonawanda, a
    NEWS Advertising Depart-
    ment employe, and Mrs. Roy
    Larsen of Saginaw Mich., and a
    son, William H. Booth Jr. also
    of Saginaw.
    Arrangements for services
    were incomplete today.

    BOOTH - Capt Fletcher W.
    Booth, 57. of 342 Oliver St, North
    Tonawanda, died Monday (April
    22, 1963) at DeGraff Memorial
    Hospital. He was born in Marine
    City, Mich., and lived in North
    Tonawanda 30 years. He had been
    a captain on the Great Lakes
    since he was 25 years old. From
    1942 to 1953 he was captain on
    harbor tugs in Buffalo, and
    since 1953 had been a pilot on the
    Niagara River. He was a mem-
    ber of the LLPPA of America,
    the Shipmasters Association, the
    Planning and Zoning Commission
    of North Tonawanda, and was af-
    filiated with the ILA, AFL, CIO
    and MTD for 30 years. He is sur-
    vived by his wife, Sarah Saliba
    Booth; a daughter, Mrs. James
    E. Farrell; his parents, Capt. and
    Mrs. William H. Booth Sr.; a
    brother, William H. Jr. of Saginaw,
    Mich.; four sisters, Mrs.
    Roy Larsen of Saginaw,
    Mary Adams of London, Ont.,
    Mrs. Edward Snowman of Tonawanda
    and Mrs. Donald Hauffe of
    Baldwin, N.Y. Two grandchildren
    also survive. Friends may call at
    the Wattengel Funeral Home, 307
    Oliver St., North Tonawanda,
    where prayers will be said at 8:330
    a.m. Thursday, followed by a Re-
    quiem Mass in Ascension Church
    at 9 a.m., the Rev.. Francis J.
    Hunt officiating. Burial in Mount
    Olivet Cemetery.

    CITY OF TONAWANDA — Jeanne I. (nee Booth) Snowman, age 90, of the City of Tonawanda, Monday, December 19, 2011, at Sheridan Manor Nursing Facility. Born in Michigan, she had been a resident of Tonawanda for more than 70 years and was the wife of the late Edward R. Snowman, Sr.; mother of the late Carol Driscoll and Edward R. Snowman, Jr.; and grandmother of the late Kevin Barr. Jeanne had been employed in the Classified Department of the Tonawanda News for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the Zonta Club and also North Tonawanda Lodge 860 BPOE Auxiliary.

    She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Allison Snowman of Tonawanda; five grandchildren, Andra (Jason) Craven of California, Vera Snowman of Tonawanda, PV2 Christian Snowman, US Army, serving in Afghanistan, John Snowman of Tonawanda and Steven Barr of Louisiana. She was predeceased by four sisters and brothers.

    There will be no prior visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday, December 28th at 11 AM in the Little Chapel of the Elms in Elmlawn Cemetery, 3939 Delaware Ave., in the Town of Tonawanda. Burial will be private. Arrangements by John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., Tonawanda, NY.

    CITY OF TONAWANDA — Edward R. Snowman, Jr., age 61, of the City of Tonawanda, died Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Buffalo. Born in Buffalo, NY, he had been a resident of the Tonawandas' for the greater part of his life, and was the son of the late Edward R. Snowman, Sr.; and brother of the late Carol Driscoll. Mr. Snowman was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a self-employed oil painter and also worked as a Graphic Designer.

    He is survived by his wife, Allison (Ostrom) Snowman; four children, Andra Craven of San Diego, CA, Vera Snowman and John Snowman, both of the City of Tonawanda and PV 2 Christian Snowman, serving out of Fort Lewis, WA; his mother, Jeanne (Booth) Snowman of the Town of Tonawanda; and several nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 20th from 9-10 AM at the Sunrise Chapel Mausoleum in Elmlawn Cemetery, 3939 Delaware Ave., in the Town of Tonawanda, where Funeral and Committal Services will be conducted at 10 AM. Arrangements by John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc.
