    Emory F. Breitsman, 85, of
    Ridge Road, Jeddo, died Sunday
    (May 10, 1964) in Medina
    Memorial Hospital an hour after
    he was struck by a car while
    crossing Rt. 104 about 800 feet
    east of County Line Road.
    Orleans Sheriff deputies said
    Mr. Breitsman, a retired carpenter,
    was struck by a car
    driven by Andrew J. West, 45, of
    Middleport.
    The driver told deputies he
    had just passed a vehicle with
    one light and did not see Mr-
    Breitsman crossing the road. No
    charges were pressed against
    Mr West.
    Mr. Breitsman was born in
    the Town of Ridgeway on May
    16. 1878, the son of Charles and
    Mary Breitsman and lived in
    Jeddo most of his life.
    Surviving him are two daughters,
    Mrs. C. Leslie Seefeldt of
    Knowlesville and Mrs. Elroy D.
    Powley of Lockport; nine grandchildren
    and several nieces
    and nephews.

    and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wallace

    LOCKPORT — Mary Lindke Newton, of Akron, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, at Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY.

    Mrs. Newton was born in the Town of Hartland on October 30, 1920, daughter of the late Henry and Nina (Prudum) Breitsman.

    She was employed as a nursing assistant at the Niagara County Infirmary. She lived in the Royalton area until 1982 when she moved to Florida, and returned to this area in 2002.

    She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville and she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Coco, FL.

    Mrs. Newton enjoyed her family, she enjoyed life and also working for Habitat for Humanity in Florida, and she also enjoyed knitting.

    She was predeceased by her first husband, August Lindke in l973, and by her second husband, Francis Newton in 2002; and by two sons, Thomas Lindke in l969, and Donald Lindke in 2008; and by a stepson, Ronald Lindke and three sisters, Pauline Fink, Doris Klepp and Edna Breitsman.

    She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Harold) Bergquist of Akron, NY; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews and several stepchildren.

    Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport, and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, with the Rev.     Shirley Adell Powley passed away on Tuesday January 9, 2018, in Briody Health Care Facility. Born in Jeddo, NY on October 8, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Emory and Adell (Robert) Breitsman.
    Shirley worked as a beautician & hair dresser for 50 years and retired after running her own shop 25 years. She was very active in her Seventh Day Adventist church in Lockport where she was Secretary, Treasurer, Organist & played piano, lead the special music and taught the Sabbath School class for over 40 years. Stayed in contact with many of her Union Springs Academy alumni and went to Camp Meeting every year. Elroy & Shirley were members of the Olcott Yacht Club for 43 years, and along with the family became avid sailors and spending many summers in Olcott. She volunteered and delivered "Meals On Wheels" for over 40 years in Lockport. Tuesday Night Ladies league Horseshoes at Out waterpark lead her to attend the World Horseshoe Pitching Championships several times. Her Hobbies included Ceramics, Camping, Quilting as a member of the Lockport Quilting guild; she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching Wheel of Fortune & Jeopardy. Shirley was a member of the Red Hat Society.
    Shirley is survived by her husband, Elroy "Red" Powley, married 65 years. Their children, Kent (Cathy) Powley, Reginald Powley, Shellie (Daniel) Hanley, and Brent Powley; grandmother of Paige Phillips, Justin Powley, Ryan Hanley and Jillian Hanley and great grandmother of six. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Shirley is predeceased by her sister Lorraine (late Les) Seefeldt.

    Joseph J. Franklin, Jr., of Medina passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital with his family at his side at the age of 75.
     
    Born August 28, 1946 in Medina, Joe was a son of the late Joseph Franklin, Sr. and Lois (Breitsman) Franklin. He was a graduate of Medina High School class of 1964. He attended some college before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. Joe served in Vietnam in the Air Cavalry and was honorably discharged in 1969, and would continue to serve in the reserves until 1972. A proud Vietnam Veteran, Joe dedicated decades of his life to the honor and preservation of Medina’s proud military history. Joe had a hard exterior and loved quietly, yet proudly, his family, friends and military brothers and sisters. He cherished his family cottage, where he would spend evenings on the swing with his hunting dogs Katie, Sarah, Snowflake, and Mikey resting at his feet.
     
    In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his son, Michael Franklin in 1990; daughter, Carey Franklin in 2018. He is survived by his son Christopher (Diana) Franklin of Rochester; and his loving grandbabies, Ava Agusta and Charleigh Franklin.
     
    Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4th from 10am-12pm at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 West Center Street Medina, with memorial service immediately to follow at 12pm. Masks will be required. Interment with military honors will be in West Ridgeway Cemetery.

    Melissa Ann Dowd, of Youngstown, NY, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, in Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
    She was born on November 6, 1960 in Ellwood City, PA, the daughter of the late Willis J. and Joanne (Beers) Breitsman.
    Missy earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Buffalo in Psychology with an emphasis in holocaust studies.
    She was a devoted volunteer at the Summit Life Outreach Center in Niagara Falls where she touched the lives of young mothers, providing them with immense support and guidance.
    Missy had a passion for travel, fitness, gardening, nature, and horses. She maintained acres of rose, hydrangea and peony gardens at her horse farm in Youngstown, where she practiced the equestrian art of dressage with her beloved horse, Solo.
    She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Michael J. Dowd; her children, Charles(Jessica), Wilson, Marny (Rene) and John "Sam" (Maggy) Dowd; and was the sister of Donna (Rickey) Farlow, John W. (Kristy Schubel) Breitsman, and Charles W. (Randy Leslie) Breitsman; her mother-in-law, Patricia (late John) Dowd; also 20 nieces and nephews and three grand-nieces.
    Missy was the sister of the late Elizabeth Sue and Ann Elizabeth Breitsman.
    Her family will be present on Friday from 11 AM -3 PM and 5-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, Lewiston, NY. Due to current regulations, building capacity and social distancing will be monitored, facial coverings are also required. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the wishes of her family.
    Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in her name to the Summit Outreach Center, 1622 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301 or to Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.
