    Briggs, aged 80, passed away Friday
    afternoon at his home on the
    Hnwklnavllle road. Although Mr.
    Briggs had been In falling health
    for some time, the end came very
    suddenly.
    Mr. Briggs was born In Boonville
    Sept 22,1849. the son of Solomon
    and Olive Meeker Briggs. He married
    Fannie Bates of Clayville. who
    passed away several years ago.
    Mr. Briggs was well known In
    this vicinity, having lived In Boonville
    practically all his life.
    Surviving are three daughters,
    Mrs. Albert C. Andrews, Boonville;
    Mrs. L. G. Den slow. Alder
    Creek, and Mrs. Erwin L. Johnson
    of Rome, and two sons, Charles
    and Irving L. Briggs, Port Leyden;
    also one sister, Mrs. William
    Locker, Port Leyden.

    Port Leyden, Jan. 29-The funeral
    of Mrs. Susan Briggs Rocker,
    widow of the late William Rocker
    was held at the New Covenant
    Church Sunday afternoon. Rev.
    Frank Jones, pastor .officiating.
    Mrs. Rocker's death occurred at
    the homo of nor son Eri Rocker in
    French Settlement five miles from
    here on the Moose River rood. 8he
    was born near Boonville Jan. 20,
    1864. Mr. Rocker passed away several
    years ago. She is survived by
    five daughters, Mrs. Howard Sconton,
    Mrs. Claude Blim, Mrs. Jo-
    seph Levert, Mrs. Floyd Brlnkerhoff,
    Mrs. Rebecca Leland and one
    son Erl Rocker.
    The bearers were grandsons,
    Percey Scouton, Wesley Scouten
    Daniel Bllm, Clifford Rockdr.
    Frederick Rocker and,Glen Leland.
    of Boonville. The remains were
    placed in the vault to await Interment
    in the family plot in the
    spring in the Port Leyden Cemetery.

    Andrews, 62, wife of Albert C.
    Andrews, died Sept. 2, 1947, in
    her home in Boonville RD. She
    had been in ill health for five
    years and seriously ill for two
    weeks.
    She was born June 12, 1885, in
    Boonville, a daughter of Benjamin
    S. and Fannie Bates Briggs. She
    was married to Albert C. Andrews
    on June 12, 1905. Following their
    marriage, they settled down on
    the Andrews homestead farm,
    where they had lived for 42 years.
    She had been a member of the
    Boonville Methodist Church for
    many years.
    Surviving are her husband; four
    daughters, mrs. Clark Johnson,
    Utica; Mrs. Chester Forte, Boon-
    ville; and Miss Mildred S.
    Andrews, at home; seven sons,
    Homer c., Frederick E., Howard
    A., James Orin, R. Ernest, Ray-
    mond G. all of Boonville, and
    Charles I, Lee Center, 16 grand-
    children; two sisters, Mrs. Erwin
    L. Johnson, Rome, and Mrs. L.
    Gould Denslow, Utica; two broth-
    ers, Charles Briggs, Boonville, and
    Irving Briggs, Rome.
    The ufneral will be held pri-
    vately at 1:30 p.m. Friday from
    the home. Burial will be in Boon-
    ville Cemetery.

    FORESTPORT — Mrs. Alice G.
    Denslow, 71, wife of L. Gould Denslow,
    died unexpectedly yesterday
    at her home here.
    The daughter of Benjamin and
    Fannie Bates Briggs, she was
    born in Boonville, Aug. 16, 1888.
    She attended Boonville schools
    and was a member of the Methodist
    Church.
    On April 5, 1907, in Boonville.
    she was married to L. G. Denslow,
    and from 1910 to 1922 they operated
    a canal boat on the B l a ck
    River and Erie Canals. Six years
    ago they built a gas station, restaurant
    and cabins on Route 28
    here.
    Surviving besides her husband,
    are four sons, Floyd, Syracuse;
    Lea foe and Cecil, Forestport, and
    Thomas Denslow, Westmoreland;
    four daughters, Mrs. D a n i el
    Brown, Yorkville; Mrs. 'Alfred
    Knowles, Mrs. John Majczak and
    Mrs. Stanley Starzyk, all of Utica;
    two brothers, Charles and Ervin
    Briggs, Rome; one sister, Mrs.
    Ervin Johnson, Rome; 25 grandchildren
    and 12 great - grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at
    2 p. m. Monday at the Trainor Funeral
    Home, Boonville, with the
    Rev. Alton A. Parker, pastor of
    the Boonville Methodist Church officiating.
    Burial will be in the Alder
    Creek Cemetery.
    Friends may can at the funeral
    home at their convenience.

    Charles H. Briggs, 71, RD 5,
    Tannery Rd., died Wednesday at
    his home after an illness of six
    months.
    Mr. Briggs, who had lived in
    Rome past 25 years, retired in
    1957 from Rome Division of Revere.
    He was born in Boonville on
    Feb. 12, 1894, son of Benjamin
    and Fannie Bates Briggs, and attended
    schools there. He married
    Pearl Carpenter on June 10, 1920,
    in Boonville. She died several
    years ago.
    Wed Second Time
    On Aug. 20, 1954, at Star Lake,
    he married Mary Maude Come.
    She died Nov. 21, 1963.
    Mr. Briggs, who had lived at
    Saranac Lake and Brushton prior
    to coming to Rome, was an Army
    veteran of World War I and was
    of the Methodist faith.
    He leaves two daughters, Mrs.
    William (Helen) Lehr, Watertown,
    and Mrs. Dorothy Reed, Boonville;
    a sister, Mrs. Erwin (Flora)
    Johnson, and a brother, Irving L.
    Briggs, both of Rome, and two
    grandchildren.
    Services Saturday
    Funeral services will be at 11
    Saturday at the Martin J. Nunn
    Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin
    E. Macumber^ pastor of Wes-
    leyan Methodist Church, officiat-
    ing, and interment in Evergreen
    Cemetery, Stokes.
    Friends may call at the funeral
    home from 7 to 9 tonight and
    Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

    Mrs. Erwin L. Johnson, 75, of
    407 Lansing St., Utica, died
    Sunday in St. Elizabeth Hospital,
    Utica, after a long illness. She
    was a former resident of Rome.
    The former Flora D. Briggs,
    she was born in Boonville June 6,
    1899, daughter of Benjamin and
    Fannie Bates Briggs.
    She was educated in Port
    Leyden and Boonville schools and
    was married to Erwin L. (Dutch)
    Johnson in Port Leyden on July
    28,1919. He died May 9,1966.
    Mrs. Johnson was of the
    Methodist Faith. She lived in
    Utica for the last five years.
    Survivors are a son, Arnold E.
    Johnson of Rome, six
    grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
    Funeral services will be at 11
    a.m. Wednesday at the Martin J.
    Nunn Funeral Home. Burial will
    be in Rome Cemetery.
    Calling hours at the funeral
    home are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
    p.m. today and Tuesday.
    Contributions may be made to the
    First United Methodist Church
    memorial fund.

    morning at Rose Hospital after
    a seven-week illness. He was a
    retired employe of Revere's
    Rome Division.
    Son of Benjamin and Fannie
    Bates Briggs, he was born Oct.
    29, 1903, in Boonville. He attended
    Boonville schools. Before
    coming to Rome in 1942, he
    had lived in Port Leyden. On
    Sept. 4, 1926, he married Clistie
    Burgy in the First United
    Methodist Church, Rome, with
    the Rev. O'Dale King officiating.
    Before his retirement in
    1967, Mr. Briggs had been employed
    at Revere as a chauffeur.
    Mr. Briggs was a member of
    the First United Methodist
    Church, Hathaway Lodge of
    F&AM, the John H. Allendorf
    Court, Order of the Amaranth.
    Surviving besides his wife are
    a son, Donald I. Briggs, Verona;
    a sister, Mrs. Flora Johnson,
    Boonville; five grandchildren,
    Timothy, Pamela, Joseph,
    Michael and Charles Briggs,
    and several nieces, nephews
    and cousins.
    Funeral services will be at
    9:30 Monday at the Prince and
    Boyd Home for Funerals with
    the Rev. Leland W Webster
    pastor of the First United
    Methodist Church, officiating.
    Interment will be in Port Leyden
    Cemetery.

    Boonville. Aug. 4.-Ira Briggs, aged
    14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin
    Briggs of Boonville. was drowned here
    shortly before noon to-day. He was
    in swimming; in the Black River Canal
    in what Is known as the Kent bridge.
    about a mile south of the village.The
    boy and several companions were In
    swimming about 11:10 o'clock this
    morning*. It Is believed young Briggs
    was seised with cramps, as he could
    swim fairly welt.
    The water was about six feet deep
    where he was drowned. The other
    boys saw him floundering In the water
    less than 30 feet from shore and they
    pushed a long pole t o htm He appeared
    dased and unable to understand
    that they were trying to aid him.
    The body had not been recovered early
    -this afternoon. Coroner Haberer Is in
    charge.
    Besides his parents the boy Is sur-
    vived by several brothers and sisters.
    He was born m Boonville and had
    lived in this village all his life, the

    died Saturday, were held Tuesday
    afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Field
    Funeral Home.

    She was married to Fred Leland
    Jan, 1, 1894 at Port Leyden. He
    died 25 years ago.
    Mrs. Leland is survived by a
    daughter, Mrs. Wlllard Bourgeois,
    Boonvllle; two granddaughters,
    Mrs. Ralph Bush, Croghan, and
    Miss Joan Leland. Boonvllle. Also
    two sisters, Mrs. Marlon La Vert,
    Port Leyden, and Mrs. Floyd
    Brinkerhoff, Utica.
    A son, Glen, died last year.

    Andrews, 90, a longtime
    resident of Erwin Street
    and husband of Dorothy,
    passed away on Monday,
    January 26, 2004 at Sun-
    set Nursing and Rehabil-
    itation Center in Boon-
    ville, where he had been a
    resident since 2003.
    Homer was born in the
    Echo Lake section of the
    Town of Boonville on
    December 12, 1913, a son
    of Albert and Delia Briggs
    Andrews. He grew up on
    the Andrews' Homestead
    farm near Echo Lake and
    attended rural schools. He
    was employed by General
    Cable Co. of Rome during
    WWII. After that he was
    employed at Garlock
    Lumber Co. in Boonville,
    where he constructed
    many windows and doors.
    For a time he was also
    employed at Comstock
    Lumber co. in Rome. In
    May of 1980 he retired
    after 14 years of employ-
    ment in the fine finishing
    department at Boonville
    Division of Ethan Allen
    Furniture Co. For many
    years Homer was also em-
    ployed as a carpenter in
    building repair in the
    Boonville area.
    He was united in mar-
    riage with Dorothy Ca-
    pron on February 10,
    1937 in Remsen.
    Mr. Andrews was a
    member of the Boonville
    United Methodist Church,
    an over 50 year member
    of Boonville Oriel Mason-
    ic Lodge F&AM, a former
    member of the Young at
    Heart Senior Citizens of
    Boonville. He was a 25-
    yeaar member, and had
    been a lieutenant of the
    Boonville Fire Company
    in 1977 he became an
    honorary member of the
    department.
    For many years he great-
    ly enjoyed the hobby of
    woodworking and he had
    constructed many pieces
    of fine wooden furniture.
    He is survived by his
    wife, Dorothy; a son,
    Edward G. Andrews
    passed away on Decem-
    ber 4, 1990. He is also sur-
    vived by two sisters, Mrs.
    Pearl Johnson, Locust
    Grove, VA., and Brooks-
    ville, Fl, and Mrs. Erma
    Grower, Boonville, one
    brother, Raymond An-
    drews, North Western; and
    by many nieces and
    nephews. He was prede-
    ceased by brothers
    Howard in 1978, James
    Orin in 1988, Frederick in
    1992, R. Ernest in 1992,
    and Charles in 2001, and
    by sisters, Ida Forte in
    1982 and Mildred Duda in
    1992.
    Homer's family wishes
    to express their sincere
    thanks and appreciation
    to the doctors and staff at
    Sunset Nursing and
    Rehavilitation Center
    and to all of the kind peo-
    ple that have assisted
    Homer and Dorothy at
    their residence.
    His funeral service was
    held on Thursday, Janu-

    was considered to be a
    second son by Homer and
    Dorothy, and pastor of St.
    Joseph's Church in Boon-
    ville, officiated. A spring
    interment will be in Boon-
    ville Cemetery. Calling
    hours were Wednesday 2 to
    4 and 7-9 p.m. at the fu-
    neral. Members of Boon-
    ville-Uriel Masonic Lodge
    #165 F&AM met in a
    group on Wednesday at 7
    p.m. at the funeral home
    for a service.

    'Mrs. Andrews have spent
    winters at Zephyrhllls.
    Florida, and summers in
    Boonville. A member of
    Boonville United Methodist
    Church. Mr. Andrews
    was also a member of
    Boonvllle-Uriel Lodge

    Fire Company. He
    was also a Village of
    Boonville trustee.
    Besides his wife, survivors
    include two sons,

    Funeral services were
    held on Tuesday, October
    13 at 11 a.m. at the
    Trainor Funeral Home,
    Boonville, where Reverend
    William Mudge, pastor of
    the Boonville Methodist
    Church, officiated. inter-
    ment was made in Boon-
    ville Cemetery. Calling
    hours were on Monday
    Octber 12, from 2 to 4
    and 7 to 9 p.m.
    Memorials may be made
    to Boonville Fire
    Company Ambulance.

    died yesterday in Rome City
    Hospital.
    He was born In Boonville, son
    of Gould and Alice Briggs
    Denslow, and spent his youth at
    Alder Creek and Forestport'. He
    married Catherine. Lambert in-
    1945 in Utica. For several years,
    Mf. Denslow was employed by
    Revere Copper and Brass, Inc.
    Rome, and later by Sunset
    Lumber Co., Utica as a yar
    foreman.
    Besides his widow of
    Forestport, he leaves a son
    Walter F. of Boonvile; a
    daughter, Mrs. Royal (Patrick)
    Schmeizle of Forestport; four
    sisters, Mrs. Daniel (Fanny)
    Brown of Yorkville, Mrs. Alfred
    (Marion) Knowles, Mrs. John
    (Madaline) Majczak Mrs.
    Felix (Anita) Clark. all of Utica
    and three- brothers. Floyd of
    Syrcuse, Leffo and Thomas,
    both of Forestport.
    The funeral will be at 11
    Saturday from the Trainor
    Funeral Home, Boonville.
    Burial will be in Alder Creek
    Cemetery.

    tomorrow

    California, a native of
    Boonville. died at his home
    in Santa Monica on Tuesday.
    December 4, 1990 after a
    long illness.
    He was born in Boonville
    on July 10. 1937. a
    son of Homer and Dorothy
    Capron Andrews. He grew
    up in Boonville, and gradu-
    ated
    from Boonville High
    School in the class of 1955.
    After that he attended
    Albany State Teachers
    College, and earned his B.A.
    Degree in 1959, and his
    Masters Degree in 1960.
    He then moved to Santa
    Monica, California, where
    be has since lived. For many
    years Mr. Andrews taught
    social studies at the Los
    Angeles High School, before
    becoming Guidance Counselor.
    For the past two years
    Mr. Andrews was the
    assistant principal at the
    High School, until becoming
    disabled in October 1996 due
    to his illness.
    He was a member of the
    Boonville United Methodist
    Church.
    Surviving are his parents,
    Mr. and Mrs. Homer
    Andrews of Boonville.

    Funeral Services were
    held on Monday, December
    10. 1990 at 11 AM at the
    Trainor Funeral Home.
    Boonville where Rev. E.
    Thomas Moreland, Pastor of
    the Boonville United Methodist
    Church, and Rev.

    Donald H. Karlen, a class
    mate, and long time friend of
    Edward officiated. Interment
    will be in Boonville
    Cemetery. Memorial Contributions
    may be made to the
    American Cancer Society
