Simmons, 76 years old, well known
retired farmer, died late Saturday
afternoon at the family home in
the Ridge road, after an extended
period of failing health. Mr. Sim-
mons was born in New Jersey but
had resided in the town of Lewis-
ton for the last 38 years. He was a
successful farmer. He was an active
member of the North Ridge Luth-
eran church.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Rachael Simmons; one
son, Elwood Simmons, and the fol-
lowing brothers and sisters; Mrs.
Charles Strablow and Louis Sim-
mons, of the Ridge road. Albert

(Miller) Strablow on April 26, 1952. He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Newfane, a member of the Sanborn Historical Society, and the Ransomville Rural Retirees.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion; and a daughter, Karen Strablow, also of Ransomville.

LEWISTON — Ruth J. Ryan, age 93, of Lewiston, formerly of Ridge Rd. in Ransomville, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

Ruth was born September 12, 1920 in Lewiston, the daughter of the late Elwood and Florence (Borget) Simmons and lived in Ransomville most of her life. She had worked for a short time at the Ransomville Hospital and at Faery's Greenhouse. On June 6, 1942, she married Walter J. Ryan in St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge. Walter predeceased her on May 14, 1994.

Ruth was a long-time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge. She sang in the church choir and was a member of the church's Ladies Aid Society and the Women's Missionary League.

Ruth is survived by her adopted family, Mary Beth and Tom Swift and their children, Adam and Morgan of Lewiston, with whom she had lived with the past five years; her dear friends, Connie and Allan Schultz of Ransomville; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, LaVina Simmons.

Born on June 23, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Harold and Helen (Turner) Sisler. On February 15, 1964, he married the former Mona Eddy of Niagara Falls NY.

Mr. Sisler was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. Leonard worked for Union Carbide and retired from Tulip Corporation in 2007. He was a former member of Frontier Volunteer Fire Company and Cataract Camping Association. Mr. Sisler enjoyed going to Roses Sons Bar, camping, hunting and above all, spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Mr. Sisler is survived by three children, John (Diane) Sisler, Tammy (Randy) Seelbinder and Skip (Julie) Sisler, all of Niagara Falls, NY; five grandchildren, Justina Seelbinder, Michael (Elizabeth Garvey) Seelbinder and Sean, Patrick and Samuel Sisler, all of Niagara Falls, NY; three sisters, Dolores (Wib) Swick of Decatur, IL, Jill Nickles Graves and Linda (Butch) Cracknell, both of Niagara Falls, NY; and one brother, Tom (Sharon) Sisler of Niagara Falls NY. Leonard is also survived by three brothers-in-law, Spencer (Doris) Eddy, Melvin (Nancy) Eddy and Lex (Sally) Eddy, all of Niagara Falls, NY; one cherished family friend who was like a daughter, Mindy Myers of Niagara Falls, NY; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Jane Marshall; brothers-in-law, Charles Nickles and Richard Graves.

Mr. Sisler graciously donated his body to the University at Buffalo Anatomical gift program. The family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 4-7 PM in the Chapel of the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9007), where a memorial service will immediately follow at 7:00 PM, with Rev. Linda F. (nee Sisler) Cracknell, 70, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, following a brief illness. Born on November 29, 1945 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Helen (Turner) Sisler. On January 19, 1963, Linda married Stuart L. Cracknell, Sr.

Mrs. Cracknell was primarily a homemaker, but did work in retail for various businesses. Linda and her husband were members of the Buff Social Club in the Town of Niagara. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed camping. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cracknell is survived by four sons, Stuart L. (Lori) Cracknell, Jr., Gerald J. (Shannon) Cracknell, Sr., Dino L. Cracknell and Cody L. (Melinda) Cracknell, Sr.; fifteen grandchildren, Gary, Marissa, Gerald (Joanna), Jr., Jesse, Nicole (Nick), Samantha (James), Leeanna, Elsie, Tiffany, Cody, Jr., Megan, Adam, Noah, Alyssa and Kenny and five great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Tony, Paully, Antonio and Colt. BELLEVUE, OH — Carol A. Harkelroad, age 71, of Bellevue, OH, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Elmwood at the Springs, Green Springs. She was born September 19, 1939 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Zygmunt and Idabell (Strablow) Tarnowski.

Carol was a homemaker and drove school bus for Bellevue City Schools for many years. She raised 90 foster children. Carol and her husband owned and operated Don’s Pizza Shop for over 18 years.

Carol was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the Lyme Grange, the Advisory Board for Sandusky County Children’s Services and Sandusky County Board of Elections.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Donald E. Harkelroad, whom she married September 19, 1959 in Lockport, NY; daughter, Tammy Harkelroad of Bellevue, OH; brother, Alan Tarnowski or Ransomville, NY; sisters, Jane Murr-Harmon of Scottsdale, AZ, Sue Timmons of Bellevue, OH and Cindy Freeman of Castalia, OH. Her parents preceded her in death.

Born on July 9th, 1948, in Niagara Falls, NY to his late parents Zygmunt S. “Ziggy” and Ida Belle L. Strablow Tarnowski. Al attended Wilson CSD and was the owner and operator of Al’s Performance and was a prior employee of the Town of Cambria. Al loved racing, he raced at Ransomville Speedway in the 1970’s and was the head tech official at Ransomville and Lancaster Speedways in the late 1980’s and Early 1990’s. He enjoyed his family especially his grandchildren.Surviving are his sons, Ronald (Colleen) Tarnowski and Michael Tarnowski; his grandsons, Nicholas and Nathan Tarnowski and special friend and neighbors Tony (Maryann) Cogdill. TOWN OF CAMBRIA — Katherine A. "Katie" Lewis, age 69, of the Town of Cambria, died on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at her residence, under the loving care of her family and Niagara Hospice. Katie was born on February 21, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late David W. and Marion A. (Strablow) Phillips and was a lifelong resident of the Town of Cambria.

She was a 1958 graduate of Wilson High School and a graduate of Bryant & Stratton. For many years she worked on her family's farm and took their produce to the Niagara Falls City Market. Katie married James Lewis on June 8, 1963.

Katie was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at North Ridge. She was an avid gardener, who spent countless hours on her lawn and in her flower gardens, as well as an avid bowler. Katie loved spending time with her family and enjoyed taking rides around western New York to take in the beautiful scenery.

In addition to her husband, James, she is survived by her children, Steve (Cathy) Lewis of the Town of Cambria and Tammy (Mark) Reeson of the Town of Hartland; her grandchildren, Steven and Sarah Lewis, and Mark Reeson; a brother, David (late Joan) Phillips of Ransomville; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, James Reeson.

Charles W. ‘Chuck’ Nickles, III, 57, passed away on January 2, 2021 in Buffalo, NY.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Jill (nee Sisler) Nickles (Big John) and the late Charles W. Nickles, Jr.
Chuck graduated from LaSalle High School.  He was a member of the United States Navy from 1982 until his honorable discharge in 1988, serving as a holesnipe.  He was employed as Superintendent of the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center in Niagara Falls, NY for 7 years.  He enjoyed building computers, and consulted with Microsoft and the FBI, serving as a member of the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team.  In conjunction with his friend, Scot, Chuck ran the International Soldier Alliance gaming community with thousands of gamers from over a dozen different countries and throughout the entire US. Chuck was extremely proud of the fact he safely drove a Semi cross country for over 9 years resulting in a million miles plus.  He was a member of the Kingsman Bowling League, the Brother Groundhogs and the Bills Mafia.  He loved sailing on his 26-foot sailboat in Chautauqua Lake.  Above all, he cherished his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, Charles is survived by his children, Richard Gabrielli (Kelly), Jacqueline (Michael) Phillips, and Jessica Gabrielli (C.J.); his grandchildren, David Nickles and Jayden Saverino; his loving fiancee, Elvie Cartwright Mertz; his siblings, Brenda (Kevin) Wall, Carolyn Rick (Vinnie), Melanie (Dan) McCrae-Crate, Jennifer (John) Orzolick, Keith (Sandy) Truex, and Grace (John) Stewart; his nieces and nephews, Kristopher Wall (Vanessa), Brandon Wall (Rebekah), Anthony Rick III, Steven (Hannah) Rick, Timmy (Sam) Rick, Brianna McCrae, Aiden Crate, Emma Orzolick, Ella Orzolick, Jeremy Truex (Elizabeth), Melissa Truex, many great-nieces, nephews and cousins, and his loving dog, Jezebel of the Scarlett Letter.
