Velma M. Lindhurst Lewiston woman moved to Sanborn SANBORN — Velma M. (Borget) Lindhurst, 85, of Saunders Settlement Road died Sunday Jan. 3, 1993) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a long Illness. Mrs. Lindhurst was born in Ransomville on July 7, 1907, to William and Louise (Schultz) Borget. She was the wife of the late Arnold H. Lindhurst, who died in 1988. Mrs. Lindhurst had lived in Lewiston for 60 years before moving to Sanborn two years ago. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Cambria. Mrs. Lindhurst loved sewing and embroidery. Surviving is a daughter, Norma Human of Sanborn; a brother, Wilfred Borget of Lockport; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Lilly Rohring. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hardison Funeral Home, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville, where the Rev. David Musall will conduct services at 2 p.m. Wednesday. LEWISTON — Ruth J. Ryan, age 93, of Lewiston, formerly of Ridge Rd. in Ransomville, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

Ruth was born September 12, 1920 in Lewiston, the daughter of the late Elwood and Florence (Borget) Simmons and lived in Ransomville most of her life. She had worked for a short time at the Ransomville Hospital and at Faery's Greenhouse. On June 6, 1942, she married Walter J. Ryan in St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge. Walter predeceased her on May 14, 1994.

Ruth was a long-time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge. She sang in the church choir and was a member of the church's Ladies Aid Society and the Women's Missionary League.

Ruth is survived by her adopted family, Mary Beth and Tom Swift and their children, Adam and Morgan of Lewiston, with whom she had lived with the past five years; her dear friends, Connie and Allan Schultz of Ransomville; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, LaVina Simmons.

RANSOMVILLE — Ransomville - Leonard F. Strablow, age 83, of Ransomville, died Monday, August 30, 2010 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a lengthy illness. Leonard was born March 25, 1927 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Fred L. and Alice (Wiepert) Strablow and was a lifelong resident of Ransomville.

He owned and operated his 116 acre family farm, Strablow Farms, and had taken his produce to the Clinton-Bailey Market in Buffalo for 56 years. Leonard married Marion R. (Miller) Strablow on April 26, 1952. He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Newfane, a member of the Sanborn Historical Society, and the Ransomville Rural Retirees.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion; and a daughter, Karen Strablow, also of Ransomville.

Norma L. Human  of Sanborn, NY, passed away on  Monday, August 19, 2019, in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, NY.  She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on January 30, 1934, the daughter of the late Arnold and Velma [Borget] Lindhurst.
Mrs. Human graduated from Hickory College and Bryant and Stratton.
She helped run the family greenhouse business in Sanborn and was also a cashier at Tops  for over 10 years, before retiring in 2009.
Mrs. Human was a Girl Scout leader and a member of several senior groups in the area. 
She was an avid quilter, crafter and loved traveling.
Mrs. Human was the wife of the late Roger L. Human, who passed away in 1988.  She is survived by her children Ronald (JoMarie) and Neil (Theresa) Human, Gail (Paul) Perona and Cathleen Gates, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Her family will be present on Wednesday from 3-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10AM with Rev. Kurt Schultz, officiating.

NIAGARA FALLS — Leonard C. Sisler, Sr., 69, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at his residence, while under the care of Niagara Hospice, surrounded by his family and friends. Born on June 23, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Harold and Helen (Turner) Sisler. On February 15, 1964, he married the former Mona Eddy of Niagara Falls NY.

Mr. Sisler was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. Leonard worked for Union Carbide and retired from Tulip Corporation in 2007. He was a former member of Frontier Volunteer Fire Company and Cataract Camping Association. Mr. Sisler enjoyed going to Roses Sons Bar, camping, hunting and above all, spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Mr. Sisler is survived by three children, John (Diane) Sisler, Tammy (Randy) Seelbinder and Skip (Julie) Sisler, all of Niagara Falls, NY; five grandchildren, Justina Seelbinder, Michael (Elizabeth Garvey) Seelbinder and Sean, Patrick and Samuel Sisler, all of Niagara Falls, NY; three sisters, Dolores (Wib) Swick of Decatur, IL, Jill Nickles Graves and Linda (Butch) Cracknell, both of Niagara Falls, NY; and one brother, Tom (Sharon) Sisler of Niagara Falls NY. Leonard is also survived by three brothers-in-law, Spencer (Doris) Eddy, Melvin (Nancy) Eddy and Lex (Sally) Eddy, all of Niagara Falls, NY; one cherished family friend who was like a daughter, Mindy Myers of Niagara Falls, NY; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Jane Marshall; brothers-in-law, Charles Nickles and Richard Graves.

Mr. Sisler graciously donated his body to the University at Buffalo Anatomical gift program. The family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 4-7 PM in the Chapel of the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9007), where a memorial service will immediately follow at 7:00 PM, with Rev. Mrs. Cracknell was primarily a homemaker, but did work in retail for various businesses. Linda and her husband were members of the Buff Social Club in the Town of Niagara. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed camping. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cracknell is survived by four sons, Stuart L. (Lori) Cracknell, Jr., Gerald J. (Shannon) Cracknell, Sr., Dino L. Cracknell and Cody L. (Melinda) Cracknell, Sr.; fifteen grandchildren, Gary, Marissa, Gerald (Joanna), Jr., Jesse, Nicole (Nick), Samantha (James), Leeanna, Elsie, Tiffany, Cody, Jr., Megan, Adam, Noah, Alyssa and Kenny and five great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Tony, Paully, Antonio and Colt. Bruce M. Hillman, age 81 of Niagara Falls NY, died Sunday April 9, 2017 at his residence under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.

Bruce was born July 18, 1935 in Ransomville, the son of the late Melvin and Inez (Demmin) Hillman. He attended Wilson High School and began working at GM Harrison Radiator in 1954. Bruce was an Inspector/Packer and retired in 1978 after 24 years. He lived in Bergholtz for 53 years before moving to Niagara Falls. Bruce also served as a PFC in the NY National Guard from 1954 – 1958.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in LaSalle. Bruce was an avid woodworker and enjoyed the Sanborn Antique Days. He also enjoyed working on the Demmin Family Farm as a younger man.

He is survived by his children, Richard Hillman (Zelda) of Tok, Alaska, Linda (Buck) Woodham of Lakeland, FL, and Daniel Hillman (Albert E. Van Dette) of Fredonia, NY ; his grandchildren, Dawn, Renee, Rhonda, Nicole, and Glenn; his great grandchildren, Lexis, Jacob, and Jacob, a great great grandchild, Araiaha; a brother, Larry Hillman of Ransomville; and a sister, Joyce (Robert) Atwater of Appleton, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Carol Helms.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 28, at 2:00 pm in the Grace Lutheran Church, 736 Cayuga Dr., Niagara Falls, with the Rev. Benjamin Bahr officiating. NIAGARA FALLS — John William Demmin, age 55, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Savannah Hospice, in Hinesville, Georgia, after a short illness. A resident of Hinesville for the past 15 years, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, Elton and Marion Demmin. John was employed and retired from the U.S. Army.

Survivors include a son, Joshua W. Demmin of Savannah, GA; daughter, Jillian (Timothy) Wilber of Smith Station, AL; five sisters, Sharon Ciszek, Suzanne Pardee, Christine Reynolds, Donna Church and Jacqueline Woodley; three brothers, James, David and Elton (Jr.) Demmin, all of the Niagara Falls area; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Philip N. Sallach on Saturday at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Wheatfield.

MIDDLEPORT - Kevin W. Cloy, age 51, died July 28, 2014 in Orchard Manor Nursing Home, following a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

He was born February 10, 1963 in Niagara Falls to Donald and Judith (Dibbley) Cloy and had lived in this area all of his life.

Kevin was a 1981 graduate of Royalton-Hartland Central School and a 1983 graduate of SUNY Canton College of Technology, receiving his degree in Criminal Justice.

Mr. Cloy was a former Dairy Herd Improvement Technician for the Cornell Cooperative Extension. He enjoyed hunting, watching football, working on the family farm, his many friendships, and spending time with his nephew, Alex.

He caused many people to smile when he would ride his lawnmower from his home to the basket factory to socialize with friends.

Mr. Cloy was predeceased by his father, Donald Cloy. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elizabeth "Liz"; stepson, Glen Sager of Middleport; his mother, Judith Cloy of Middleport; brother, Donald "Ted" (Susan) Cloy of Perry; sisters, Kristen Wasnock of Barker, Melissa (Rob) Gogalock of Attica; his granddaughter, Skigh, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends THURSDAY from 1-2 PM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Route 31, Middleport, where a Celebration of Kevin's life will take place following visitation at 2 PM. Interment will be in Hartland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Aid Association for Lutherans or Hospice of Orleans. Charles W. ‘Chuck’ Nickles, III, 57, passed away on January 2, 2021 in Buffalo, NY.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Jill (nee Sisler) Nickles (Big John) and the late Charles W. Nickles, Jr.
Chuck graduated from LaSalle High School.  He was a member of the United States Navy from 1982 until his honorable discharge in 1988, serving as a holesnipe.  He was employed as Superintendent of the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center in Niagara Falls, NY for 7 years.  He enjoyed building computers, and consulted with Microsoft and the FBI, serving as a member of the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team.  In conjunction with his friend, Scot, Chuck ran the International Soldier Alliance gaming community with thousands of gamers from over a dozen different countries and throughout the entire US. Chuck was extremely proud of the fact he safely drove a Semi cross country for over 9 years resulting in a million miles plus.  He was a member of the Kingsman Bowling League, the Brother Groundhogs and the Bills Mafia.  He loved sailing on his 26-foot sailboat in Chautauqua Lake.  Above all, he cherished his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, Charles is survived by his children, Richard Gabrielli (Kelly), Jacqueline (Michael) Phillips, and Jessica Gabrielli (C.J.); his grandchildren, David Nickles and Jayden Saverino; his loving fiancee, Elvie Cartwright Mertz; his siblings, Brenda (Kevin) Wall, Carolyn Rick (Vinnie), Melanie (Dan) McCrae-Crate, Jennifer (John) Orzolick, Keith (Sandy) Truex, and Grace (John) Stewart; his nieces and nephews, Kristopher Wall (Vanessa), Brandon Wall (Rebekah), Anthony Rick III, Steven (Hannah) Rick, Timmy (Sam) Rick, Brianna McCrae, Aiden Crate, Emma Orzolick, Ella Orzolick, Jeremy Truex (Elizabeth), Melissa Truex, many great-nieces, nephews and cousins, and his loving dog, Jezebel of the Scarlett Letter.

Dino L. Cracknell, 57, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Born in Frankfurt, Germany on December 27, 1966 he was the son of the late Stuart L. and Linda (Sisler) Cracknell. Dino was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed going camping with his brothers.


He is survived by his brothers, Stuart L. (Lori) Cracknell Jr., Gerald J. Cracknell Sr., and Cody L. (Melinda) Cracknell Sr.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
