Tonawanda, the widow of a veteran
Buffalo firefighter killed
Wednesday, will be accepted at
Buffalo City Hall by Fire Commissioner
Robert B. Howard Jr.,
he announced yesterday.
Commissioner Howard suggested
that all checks be made
out in Mrs: Brunner's name. He
said he would deposit them in a
bank for her.

46, commander of Truck 4 from
the Rhode Island - Chenango
Station, was one of two persons
killed in a fire truck - car collision
at Delaware Avenue and
W. Utica Streets. Seven others
were injured.
Lt. Brunner was a 14-year
veteran in the Buffalo Fire Department.
Thomas Sardinia. 18. of 187
Fargo Ave., Buffalo, a passenger
in the car. also was killed.
Two firefighters, who were
among the seven hospitalized,
were released Thursday from
Buffalo General Hospital. They
are Vincent Kalinowski, 31, of
417 Hewitt Ave., who suffered a
hip injury, and Martin G. Alf,
33, of 24 Armin Place, who suffered
bruises. The other five are
still hospitalized.
The truck was en route to fill
in for another which had been
sent to a two - alarm fire at
27 Lyth Ave., a vacant house,
which investigators believe was
set afire by vandals. Local 282
International Association of Fire-
fighters, AFL-CIO, and the Buffalo
Fire Department Officers
Association yesterday offered a
$500 reward for information
leading to the arrest and conviction
of the persons responsible
for the fire.
Meanwhile. Tonawanda Fire
Department headquarters on
Broad Street is being readied as
a meeting place for 500 firemen
who will gather there Monday
morning to form a cortege for
the firefighter's funeral.
Services will be conducted at
11 a.m.. Monday at the Hamp
Funeral Home, with the Rev.
Karl H. A. Rest officiating. Burial
will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Besides his wife, Mr Brunner
is survived by two sons, Thomas
of Tonawanda and Army Spec 4
Brian E. Brunner, who is serving
in South Vietnam, and a
daughter Miss Carolyn Brunner
of Tonawanda: his mother. Mrs.
Elsie Brunner Kalway; two
brothers. Donald and Richard:
two sisters. Mrs. Beatrice Flukey
and Mrs. Ruth Booth of California,
and a granddaughter.
