Mrs. Sophia M. Buddenhagen,
86, of Wecome Lake, Pa., died
Tuesday, September 10, 1962 in
Honesdale, Pa., after a short ill-
ness.
Born at Welcome Lake, Decem-
ber 11, 1876, she was the daughter
of Ernest and Henrietta Knaack
Gevert. She was the widow of
Rudolph C. Buddenhagen.
Surviving are a brother, Wil-
liam Gevert of Hillcrest; five sons,
Fred of Cortland, Henry J. of
Mohawk, Charles A. of Honesdale,
Pa. Paul of Shohola, Pa.,, and
Donald W.. of Vestal; seven
daughters, Mrs. Emelie Rogers of
Hallstead, Pa., Mrs. Laura Brick-
man of Atco, Pa.,, Mrs.. May
Marshall and Mrs. Edith Newen-
house, both of Honesdale, Pa.,
Mrs. Eleanor Mitterwager, of Cal-
licoon, Mrs.. Mildred Cosgrove of
Welcome Lake, Pa., and Mrs.
Irene Turner of Sussex, J.J.;
several nieces and nephews; 50
grandchildren; and 49 great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services are today,
Thursday at 2:00 p.m at the
Rasmussen Sons, Inc., Funeral
Home, Narrowsburg. The Rev.
Michael C. Shyna officiating. In-
terment will be in Glen Cove
Cemetery, Narrowsburg.

Fred Henry Buddenhagen, 70,
of 146 West Rd., a former line
foreman for the New York Tele-
phone Co., died last night m
Cortland Memorial Hospital af-
ter a long illness.
He was born Nov. 5, 1898 at
Welcome Lake, Pa., son of the
late Randolph and Sophia Ge-
vert Buddenhagen. He came to
Cortland from Binghamton in 19-
29 and retired from the tele-
phone company in 1962 after
working 40 years as a line fore-
man.
Mr. Buddenhagen was a mem-
ber of the Telephone Pioneer
Club of America, a past mem-
ber of Cortland Lodge 470, F &
AM, and a member of the First
Methodist Church.
He married Genevieve Smith
Aug. 17, 1948 in Oneonta.
Besides his widow, Mr. Bud-
denhagen is survived by five
sons, Ronald of Endicott, Lloyd,
serving with the Marine Corps in
Vietnam, and Lynn, Gary and
Lyle Buddenhagen of Cortland;
two daughters, Mrs. Sheila Rad-
ford of Baltimore, Md. and Miss
Diane Buddenhagen of Lisle.
Also, three brothers, Charles
of Honesdale, Pa., Paul of Sho-
hola. Pa. and Donald Budden-
hagen of Vestal; six sisters, Mrs.
Frank Rogers of Hallstead, Pa.,
Mrs. Harold Turner of Sussex,

p. m. Wednesday at the Bush
Funeral Home, where a pray-
er service will be held at 9 p. m..
with the Rev. Paul Brown of-
ficiating. Graveside services will
be held at 2 p. m. Thursday
at Indian Orchard Cemetery,
Honesdale.

May Sophia Dexter Marshall of Athens, TN, formerly of Beach Lake, died Monday, July 27, at Willow Acres in Riceville, TN. She was 89.

Daughter of the late Rudolph and Sophia Gevert Buddenhagen, she was born in Welcome Lake. She was the widow of Percy Dexter and Earl Marshall.

She was a member of the Allen Memorial United Methodist Church in Athens. She was a former member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, was the first employee of Woodloch Pine Resort, and was a member of the Welcome Lake Ladies Aid.

Survivors include a son, Maynard Dexter of Athens; a stepson, John Marshall of Honesdale; a brother, Donald Buddenhagen of Vestal; three sisters, Eleanor Mittawager of Callicoon, Irene Turner of Sussex, and Edith Newenhouse of Honesdale; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Irene A. Turner, age 93, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Sussex County Homestead surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Welcome Lake, Pike County, Pa., to the late Rudolph and Sophie Buddenhagen, Mrs. Turner had lived in the Sussex-Wantage area for most of her life.

She had been employed at Cardinal Coat Factory in Sussex for 30 years and had retired when she was 62 in 1980. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Wantage United Methodist Church and was also a member of the United Methodist Ladies.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold L. Turner, in 1996; her six brothers, William, Frederick, Henry, Charles, Paul and Donald; and her eight sisters, Bertha Kessler, Anna Bunnell, Emily (Emelie) Rogers, Eleanor Mitterwager, Mae Marshall, Mildred Cosgrove, Laura Brinkman and Edith Newenhouse.


Interment will follow at Clove Cemetery in Wantage.

Donald W. Buddenhagen, 79, of Vestal, died at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Wednesday, February 20, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Buddenhagen, Vestal; a daughter, Paula J. Gilbert, and dear friend, Geoffrey Rubin, Elmira; a son and daughter-in-law, Brent W. and Harris Buddenhagen, Clarksville, Tenn.; a grandson, Cooper E. Gilbert, Syracuse, N.Y.; two sisters, Edith Newenhouse, Honesdale, Pa., and Irene Turner, Sussex, N.J.; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and very supportive brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Kathy Dibble, Vestal and Lola and Harry Thorpe, N.C. Budd was a retired NY Telephone Company employee, retiring in 1978 after 34 years of service and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was also an active volunteer in his community, delivering books and taking cancer patients for treatments. Memorial services will be held Saturday 1 p.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St., Endicott with Reverend Mike Willis, pastor of his church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Saturday afternoon from 12:15 p.m. until service time at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Vestal United Methodist Church, 328 Main St., Vestal, N.Y. 13850, or to the charity of one's choice.
