services for Ernest P. Schultz, aged
84 years, who died early on Friday
morning at the home of his daughter,
Mrs, Elmer Wllkins, of the Daniels
road, were held from the daughter's
home at 12:30 o'clock on Sunday
afternoon and at 1 o'clock from
St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran
church, of which he had been a
member for many years, the Rev.
Carl W. Oldach, pastor, officiated.
Many beautiful flowers were In
evidence. These, with the large
concourse of neighbors and friends,
showed the esteem in which he was
held.
The bearers, all nephews, were:
William Schultz, of Ransomvllle;
Fred Schultz, of the Town Line
road; Edward Schultz, of Cambria;
Amiel Schultz. of Ridge road, town
of Lewlston, Walter Schultz, of the
Frog Hollow road, and Herman

suffered a fatal heart attack
today (Aug. 26, 1961) at his
home.
The first aid squad of the
Fire Department was summoned
about 1 a.m. and administered
Inhalator treatment
for 45 minutes but was
unable to revive Mr. Schultz.
Born in Cambria, Sept. 8,
1878, Mr. Schultz was the son
of the late William and Mary
Cloy Schultz. He farmed for
many years in the Ransomville
area before coming to
Loekport 17 years ago. He retird
from Loekport Mills in
1956.

Mrs. Lindhurst was born in Ransomville on July 7, 1907, to William and Louise (Schultz) Borget. She was the wife of the late Arnold H. Lindhurst, who died in 1988. Mrs. Lindhurst had lived in Lewiston for 60 years before moving to Sanborn two years ago. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Cambria. Mrs. Lindhurst loved sewing and embroidery. Surviving is a daughter, Norma Human of Sanborn; a brother, Wilfred Borget of Lockport; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Lilly Rohring. A r t h u r P. Lemke, 59, of 310 Fredericka St., North
Tonawanda, who devoted much of 18 of his last 23
year to city government, died early today after an ap-
parent heart seizure at his home.
Mayor Durkee ordered the flag
in front of the North Tonawanda
City Hall lowered to half-mast
in tribute to Mr. Lemke, who
was elected to the Common
Council nine times.
He was stricken with the fatal
attack shortly before 3 a.m. to-
d a y F i r e m e n administered oxy-
gen, but he was dead on arrival
DeGraff Memorial Hospital.
His death came less than two
weeks before he wa to have
been honored at a testimonial
dinner May 21 by the North Tona-
wanda Republican City Com-
mittee.
Since 1940, when he was first
elected to the Common Council,
he devoted most of his time and
effort to the North Tonawanda
political scene. A republican, he
twice served two-year terms as
Common Council president.
He retired from politics lat
Dec. 31 at the conclusion of his
ninth term as alderman from the
Fourth Ward.
Long a proponent of the city
manager plan of municipal gov-
erment, Mr. Lemke was an out-
standing legislator.
A native of North Tonawanda,
he was born in the Fourth Ward
and attended local schools. He
had been employed at the Buffalo
Pumps Division of Buffalo
Forge, North Tonawanda, for
the past 45 years.
While on the council, he hed-
ed every committee at one time
or another and was respected
by all who served with him.
He was a member of the Ton-
wandas Chamber of Commerce,
DeGraff M e m o r i a l Hospital
Board of Trustees, Gratwick
Hose Company, the Firemen's
Benevolent Association and St.
Mark Lutheran Church and
president of the church Christian
stewardship committee.
He is survived by his wife.

Mildred M. Hurtgam, age 88 formerly of Ridge Rd., Town of Cambria, NY, was called to her eternal home on Sunday, November 17, 2002 in the Mt. St. Mary's Long Term Health Care Facility in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Hurtgam was born July 21, 1914 in the Town of Wilson, NY, the daughter of the late Fred and Selma (Winters) Schultz. She was married to Herbert R. Hurtgam on March 7, 1935. Together they owned and operated Hurtgam Farms in the Town of Cambria for many years, taking their eggs and produce to the North Tonawanda and Niagara Falls City Markets. Mr. Hurtgam passed away on September 9, 1991. Mrs. Hurtgam was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at North Ridge and very active in its' Ladies Aid Society for which she had served as Secretary and Treasurer. She was a member of the Newfane Golden Agers and the Sanborn Friendship Club. She enjoyed sending and receiving greeting cards. Willard L. Schultz, 86, a longtime vegetable farmer, died Saturday (June 22, 2002) in Newfane Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, where he had been a patient since February 2000.
Schultz was born in Wilson, attended local schools and lived here all his life.
He farmed 58 acres on Irish Road and sold his vegetables at the Clinton-Bailey Farmers' Market in Buffalo. He was a former vice president of the Clinton-Bailey Farmers Market Association and served on its board for 12 years.
Schultz served on the board of elders of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at North Ridge, Cambria, where he was a lifelong member. He was a former member of the church's cemetery board.
Schultz was also an exempt member of South Wilson Fire Company.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Martha L. Brandt; a son, Randy of Wilson; a brother, Carlton of Newfane; two sisters, Mildred Hurtgam of Niagara Falls and Eleanor Eckert of Burt; and one granddaughter.

LOCKPORT — Malcolm E. "Bose" Goodman, age 91, of Newfane, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in the Odd Fellow & Rebekah Health Facility in Lockport, after a lengthy illness.

Bose was born March 3, 1921 in Lewiston, the son of the late Erwin and Florence (Schultz) Goodman and was a lifelong resident of Newfane. A veteran of WW II, he served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service from 1942 until his honorable discharge as a Fireman 1 C in 1945. On October 19, 1946, Bose married Betty Jane (Oliphant) Goodman at St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge. Betty Jane predeceased him on May 28, 2010.

From 1957 to 1972, Bose owned and operated Goodman's Amoco in Newfane. He also co-managed Betty Jane's Cottages with his wife. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge.

He is survived by three sons, Douglas Goodman of Port Townsend, WA, Stephen (Susan) Goodman and Gerald "Ed" (Rebecca) Goodman, both of Newfane; his grandchildren, Sara (Cliff) LaPort, Jennifer Edgar, Emily, Laura and Ellen Goodman, Natalie (Joshua) Verheyn and Gloria (Bart) Langendorfer; his great-grandchildren, Lucas and Nicholas LaPort, Nyx Verheyn and Duane Langendorfer; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Reedy and Janet Schultz; and a brother, Gordon Goodman.

TOWN OF CAMBRIA — Harold E. Wilkins, age 96, of the Town of Cambria, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at his residence, under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.

Harold was born May 27, 1915 in Newfane, the son of the late Elmer and Edith (Schultz) Wilkins. He married Leona (Donner) Wilkins on September 21, 1940, and they have resided in Cambria since 1957. Harold was a Cabinet Maker, employed by Kittinger Furniture in Buffalo for 17 years. He retired in 1980. Previous to that, Harold worked for Richmond Manufacturing, Richardson Boat Company in North Tonawanda, and had built houses.

He was a long-time member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at North Ridge where he had served on numerous committees through the years. Harold enjoyed traveling, bowling, fishing and the Cambria Friendship Club.

In addition to his wife, Leona, he is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Michael) Polizzi of West Falls, NY and Sharon (Charles) Fleming of Lafayette, IN; his grandsons, Michael J. Polizzi, Curtis and Brent Fleming; and five nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Elton Wilkins and a sister, Edna Miles.

She was an avid quilter, crafter and loved traveling.
Mrs. Human was the wife of the late Roger L. Human, who passed away in 1988.  She is survived by her children Ronald (JoMarie) and Neil (Theresa) Human, Gail (Paul) Perona and Cathleen Gates, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

After his honorable discharge he married Patricia Ann Humphrey on June 4, 1960. She predeceased him in 2013. He went to work for GM Harrison Radiator in Lockport and got a degree in Air Conditioning Maintenance and worked there until his retirement in 1991.Robert was an original member of the Ransomville Slo Pokes, a member of the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co. since 1963 and was a member of the Fire Police and Exempts for over 50 years. He served as a past Secretary, Treasurer and Fire Police Captain. He was a member of the Niagara County Sportsman Club, the Niagara County Fire Police Assoc. and was a life member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge. He enjoyed WNY John Deere 2 Cylinder Club and showing antique tractors. LOCKPORT — Elwood L. Hillman passed away on April 18, 2012. Born on September 3, 1932 in Wilson, he was the son of Elwood C. and Ruth (Schultz) Hillman.

Elwood was the garage foreman for New York Telephone for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed working in the yard, traveling, country music, and restoring cars. He restored a 1936 Dodge truck. Elwood was a member of the NY Telephone Pioneers and also the Pendleton Historical Society.

Elwood is survived by his first wife and constant companion, Jean Haylett of Lockport; step-son of Evangeline Hillman of Lockport; father of Deborah (Howard) Gandt of Setauket, Long Island, Melody (Thomas) Zuercher of Lockport, and the late Duane Hillman; grandfather of Ashley Zuercher, Eric Gandt and Alan Gandt; brother of Annabelle (Levell) Zastrow of Newfane; step-brother of Carol (late William) Sprung of Lockport, Francis (Laurie) Hillman of Ransomville, Patty Hillman of Lockport, Sue (Stephen) Woodman of Graham, WA, Pam (Randy) Coulter of Kendall, NY, Beverly (William) Clemons of Lockport and the late Richard (Donna) Hillman; also several nieces and nephews. She enjoyed traveling and activities at the Wheatfield Senior Citizens Center, according to her son, Richard Lemke of North Tonawanda.
Her husband of many years, William, died in 1981.
Besides her son, survivors include a brother, Wallace Lemke of Wheatfield; three sisters, Naomi Kreppenneck of Cambria and Betty Ernst and Alice Lewis, both of Wheatfield; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 P.M. Sunday in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Niagara Road and Luther Street, Bergholz. Burial will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery, Bergholz

WHEATFIELD — Wallace Lemke, age 96, of Wheatfield, was called to his heavenly home on August 15, 2012 at the Northgate Health Care Facility. Born in the Town of Wheatfield on September 23, 1915, he was the son of the late Edward and Ella (Werth) Lemke.

Wallace was a lifelong member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Wheatfield, exempt member of the St. Johnsburg Fire Company, where he's been a member since 1941, was employed at the Wurlitzer Company for 40 years and later at Voss Mfg.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Ernst of North Tonawanda; two grandsons, Steve Sterry, Jr. and David Sterry. He was predeceased by his wife, Agatha L. Lemke on January 30, 2000; and three sisters, Florence DuBois, Naomi Kreppenneck and Alice Lewis.

A private interment will take place in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield, with a memorial service to follow at a later date, in the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME.

WHEATFIELD — Alice M. (Lemke) Sherwood-Lewis, age 88, of Wheatfield, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 3, 2012, after a brief illness at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston. Born in North Tonawanda, NY, on February 8, 1924 to the late Edward and Ella (Werth) Lemke.

Alice was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatfield. She was a devoted homemaker, loving wife and mother. Alice enjoyed getting together with her family, playing cards, sewing and fishing.

Predeceased by her first husband, Leland W. Sherwood in 1972, she is survived by her husband, Charles W. Lewis. They were united in marriage on April 16, 1976; four children, Timothy (Debbie) Sherwood of Acworth, GA, Dan (Karen) Sherwood of Pendleton, Karen (Steve) Palistrant of Sanborn and Doyle (Linda) Lewis of Camden, SC; fifteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Wallace Lemke; a sister, Betty Ernst; and several nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by two sisters, Florence DuBois and Naomi Kreppenneck.

LEWISTON — Paul G. Lemke, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at his residence, under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was born in the Town of Wheatfield on April 8, 1920, the son of Judge Frederick and Matilda Lemke.

Mr. Lemke was truly proud of his ancestry, place of birth and family. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force, with campaigns in air offensives in Europe, Ardennes, Central Europe, Egypt, Libya, Naples, Foggia, Northern France, Rhineland, Rome, Arno, Sicily, Tunisia, air combat Balkans.

After the service he was employed by Buffalo Bolt Co. for 17 years, leaving their employ to form Thruway Sales Co. and Thruway Fasteners, Inc., in July of 1959, where he continued as a consultant up until his death. The success of this company is history.

Mr. Lemke was Past Board Member and President of National Fasteners Distributors Association, past Director of National Wholesale Association, elected to the Fastener Hall of Fame in 1983. He served on the Board of Governors and was President of Niagara Falls Country Club, also a Board Member of Artpark and Council Niagara University.

Mr. Lemke was the husband of the late Lorraine (McIntyre) Lemke, who died in August of 1964.

He is survived by one daughter, Michele L. (Peter) Jenkins of Grand Island, NY; a daughter-in-law, Bonny Lemke; his companion, Jean Walker. He is also survived by five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Lemke was the father of the late Paul G. Lemke and brother of the late Alvin Lemke.

To a host of my friends and lovers, and especially my G.A.P., it has been a pleasure and I will save a place for you.

Obituary of Arlene Seefeldt

Arlene B. Seefeldt, age 81, of Ransomville, died unexpectedly at her home on Monday October 31, 2016.


Arlene was born August 13, 1935 in the Town of Wilson, the daughter of the late Paul and Irene (Schultz) Bohnstadt. She was a graduate of Wilson High School and on May 1, 1954 she married Neil L. Seefeldt. Together they worked their family farm and took their produce to the Niagara Falls Market and the Clinton & Bailey Market in Buffalo. At the same time Arlene worked for 11 years as a secretary at the Wilson High School. In 1964 she began her pursuit of a career as a teacher, attending Buffalo State Teachers College. Arlene received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education and English in 1967 at which time she began teaching English at Lewiston-Porter Schools, at both the Junior and Senior High. She retired in 1989 after 22 years of service.


Arlene was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran at North Ridge. She sang in the choir, was the organist for many years, and had served as principal of the school for two years as well as on its' Board of Education. Arlene had also served as the organist for North Ridge United Methodist Church and had served on the Town of Wilson Board of Assessment Review. Arlene was a member of the NY State Retired Teachers Association.




Her husband, Neil, predeceased her in 1987. She is survived by several cousins, godchildren, and her church family.


A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, November 15, at 11:00 am in St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Ridge, 4169 Church Rd. Town of Cambria, with the Rev. Robert Hoffman officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Arlene was laid to rest with her husband at North Ridge Cemetery with a private ceremony. Dorothy was educated in the Barker Central Schools. On April 29, 1950 she married her beloved husband, Frank J. Caraglin in the Town of Royalton. Mr. Caraglin predeceased her on September 23, 2001.
Dorothy was a longtime member of the American Legion Cadille Post 1664 and the LaSalle-Griffon VFW Post 917. She enjoyed needle work, crocheting, playing cards, reading, as well as listening to music. Above all, Dorothy especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

He was a member of the Niagara County Sheriff's Association, the National Rifle Association, the Buffalo Zoological Society and the National Wildlife Federation and was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Cambria.

LEWISTON — Gary W. Schultz, age 71, formerly of Porter Center Rd. in Lewiston, died on Saturday, September 1, 2012 in the Treasure Coast Hospice in Ft. Pierce, FL, after a lengthy illness. Gary was born on April 10. 1941 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Wallace F. and Edna G. (Zahno) Schultz and was a 1959 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School.

He married Gladys Jeanette (Hlavenka) Schultz on June 1, 1963 and they lived in the Town of Porter until moving to Port St. Lucie, FL, 11 years ago. Gary was a Sales Service Manager, employed by Stone Container Co. in Wheatfield, for 45 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston and of St. Bernadette RC Church in Port St. Lucie. Gary was also a former member and an Exempt Member of the Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. # 1. He enjoyed farming.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Jeanette Schultz of Port St. Lucie, FL; his children, Lora (Joe) Kolmer of Kenmore, WA and Michael Schultz of Niagara Falls, NY; his grandchildren, Nathan and Evan Schultz, Shea and Naomi Kolmer; a brother, Marvin Schultz of Ransomville; his mother-in-law, Germaine Hlavenka of Niagara Falls, NY; a brother-in-law, Joseph Hlavenka of Los Angeles, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lynn Marie Schultz and a brother, Gordon Schultz.

Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 7th at 10:00 AM in St. Peter's RC Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Michael Zuffoletto officiating. Jerry H. Hurtgam, age 70, of Ransomville, fell asleep in Jesus on Monday, November 26, 2012, at his home after a lengthy illness. Jerry was born on December 9, 1941 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Herbert R. and Mildred (Schultz) Hurtgam.
He was a 1959 graduate of Wilson Central High School. Jerry was past owner and operator of J Hurtgam Farms and sold produce at Niagara Falls and North Tonawanda farmers markets. He served in various roles on the Farm Bureau, Niagara County Cooperative Extension, and the Lake Plains Vegetable Growers. Jerry was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge, where he served as usher and member of the finance committee. Faith, family, friends, farming, and Bluegrass music fulfilled his life.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Brenda (Schendel) Hurtgam; two sons, Jeff (Harmony) Hurtgam and Jay (Cassandra) Hurtgam, both of Ransomville; a daughter, Jodie Hess of Hilton, NY; four grandchildren, Emma, Abigail, Allison and Nathan Hurtgam; and a brother, Charles (Maggie) Hurtgam of Greene, NY.
Friends may call at St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge, 4169 Church Rd., Town of Cambria on Saturday, December 1st from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Jeffrey served in the Navy from 1973 to 1976. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed motorcycles including riding his own. Esther L. Snell ( nee Wittkop) age 86 of the Town of Wheatfield Saturday April 13, 2019 after a brief illness. Esther left this life to join her beloved husband, the late Carlo Snell. Born in North Tonawanda on April 5, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Edward and Minne (Donner) Wittkop and sister of the late Ruth Pohl. A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she volunteered at the church’s Bazaar and other activities. Other interests included travel to several states, reading and an avid football fan. 
Beloved mother of Michael Snell and Edward (Lynne) Snell. Sister-in-law of Wilma Snell. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

TOWN OF WHEATFIELD — Ruth E. Pohl (nee Wittkop), age 76, of the Town of Wheatfield, Saturday, February 25, 2012. Ruth Pohl left this life to join her beloved husband, the late Arthur Pohl. She was born March 10, 1935, the daughter of the late Edward and Minnie Wittkop. She retired after 30 years from Riley Gear Corp. where she worked as an administrative assistant. A lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, she volunteered in many activities such as the annual Trash and Treasures. Other interests included traveling internationally, reading and crocheting.

Beloved mother of Patricia Pohl and Sandra (Matthew) Murphy, she is survived by her sister, Esther Snell; sister-in-law, Jan Seloske and brother-in-law, Robert (Rosemary) Pohl; dear friend, Nancy Babb; as well as nieces and nephews.

No prior visitation.
