    Mrs. John Laur of No. 807 Willow avenue died at 10 o'clock last night in a Buffalo hospital. She was 53 years old. Mrs. Laur was the daughter of the late Jacob F. Streicher and had been a resident of this city for many years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran church and of tho Ladies' Aid and Woman's Missionary societies of tho church. She Is survived by her husband, three sons, John, Jr., Arthur and Charles Laur; ,three brothers, Frank P. Streicher of Buffalo, Jacob F., and William E. Streicher of Niagara Falls and a sister, Miss Louise Streicher of Detroit, Mich. Funeral services will be held at the home. No. 807 Willow avenue, on Thursday at 2 p. m., and 2:00 p m.. In Zlon Lutheran church, the pastor, Rev. Herman Brezlng officiating. ,

    Business Forms. Inc., for many years
    retiring more than 15 years ago.

    Lodge 81. IOOF. and of the Niagara
    Falls Typographers union, Local 233.
    He is survived by one stepson, Harold
    Mestler. Lockport. and one sister,
    Mrs. Louise Fountaine. Villa Park.

    D.D.. Zlon Evangelical Lutheran
    church, will conduct luneral services
    at the Bell Funeral chapel, the time

Laur of the Town of Niagara. For everyone in the room with you will be able to join in a shouted and emphatic "Ja, das ist eine Schnit zelbank," for this sturdy old shaving stool has done service for 120 years. Abraham Wilmer, grandfather of Mrs. Lauer, constructed this vise in 1815 after arriving in the Lockport Road area. He followed the tradi tional pattern of thc:c built by car penters in Germany since about tne seventeenth century. It has survived the advent of the lathe, so far as those who have followed Abe Wil mer are concerned. Managed by a foot pedp'., the up per arm grips firmly the wood on which the workman is whittling with a draw-knife. From the blocks that the Witmer-Laur schitzelbank has clung onto have come axe handles, chair rungs, table legs, wagon tongues, handles for shovels and many other articles. All these pro ducts defy comparison with ma chine-made counterparts. Supervisor Laur used it in mak ing a gavel which he presented to County Judge William A. Gold re cently. That schnitzelbanking shall not become a lost art in the Laur house hold, the jovial supervisor is dilli gently training his nephew, John Laur, in the art, and John, It may be said to his credit, responds with a foot and arm action that would make any schnitzelbank content.

    falls, George R. Streicher, 217 Northampton
    street, Buffalo, was swept to
    hla death at 6.30 pjn. Saturday. The
    man was Identified through a hat and
    coat which he left on a bench on Luna
    Island, He sat on the bench for sometime
    and finally walked to the water's
    edge and waded Into the rapids after
    looking at them for a few moments,
    entering the water from the north side
    of Luna island.
    He was carried off his feet by the
    treacherous current and swept over the
    brink of the falls about 15 feet from
    the shore. A careful search of the lower
    river has failed to reveal a trace of
    the body. George Streicher, Sr.. father
    of. the dead man, was notified and
    identified the coat and hat as belonging
    to his son. In the pockets of the
    coat were papers Indicating that the
    garment was Streicher's property. The
    coat was of blue material with a white
    pin stripe and the hat was a straw
    sailor, with a blue band.
    The elder Streicher told Tracey G.
    Levee, reservation police superintendent,
    that he knew no. reason for his
    son's act. Pour persons, tourists, saw
    Streicher go to his. death. They told
    Police they had no opportunltv of stop-
    ping Streicher and that they had no
    Idea he was going t o commit suicide
    until he waded Into the swift current.
    The tourists were Mr. and Mrs. John
    Davis 23 Newcomb street, Rochester
    and J. W. Raynor and Raymond Hal-
    stead, both of Wellsburg, N.Y.

    Died in a US Naval Reserve Plane crash in Lake George, Volusia County, FL while on a training exercise. Was probably practicing bombing in the National Forest Bombing Range outside of Ocala. Newspaper articles in the Leesburg paper indicate there were a crew of 11. Two survivors were taken to the hospital in Palatka. All were not recovered immediately but within the next week all were accounted for. The unit was flying from Jacksonville Naval Air Station but were originally stationed in Willow Grove, PA.
