    Notes:

    North Tonawanda NY Evening News

    Vice President Nelson A.-
Rockefeller and a host of dignitaries
    attended funeral services today in
Niagara Falls for former state Senate
    Majority Leader Earl W. Brydges.
    The once powerful Republican
lawmaker died Sunday at the age of 69
after a long bout with cancer.
Brydges served in the Senate for 24
years, before retiring in 1972. As GOP
majority leader from 1967 to 1972, he
was well-known for his quick wit and
    charm in guiding former Governor
    Rockefeller's bills through the Senate.
    State officials attending the
    services; under cold, snowy skies,
    included former Gov. Malcolm Wilson
and most members of the Senate.
Representing Gov. Hugh L. Carey was
    Fabian Palmino
    Brydges' silver-gray coffin was
carried into the 157-yeai-old St. Mary
    of the Cataract Roman Catholic
Church by a number of old friends,
including William E. Miller, who ran
for vice president in 1964 on the
    Republican national ticket.
Wilson eulogized Brydges as "a man
who was true to himself, who alway
    knew where he stood."
    Senate Majority Leader Warren M.
    Anderson Tuesday appointed the entire
membership of the Senate to serve as
a committee to represent that house at
    the funeral.
It is a tradition of the Senate for the
    majority leader to appoint a
    representative committee to attend
    funeral services for a deceased
former member, and it is a mark of
unusual respect for the entire Senate to
    be so designated.
    As Republicn majority leader from
1967 to 1972, Brydges used his gifts as
an orator and parliamentarian, as well
as wit and charm, to guide Rockefeller's
    bills through the Senate.
    Rockefeller called Brydges "an
outstanding leader and a most beloved
figure in the government of New York
State, He was my friend and I mourn
    his death."
    Along with Rockefeller and GOP
    Assembly Speaker Perry B. Duryea
    -now minority leader -he controlled
    all major state legislation.
However, he said he felt he used his
    power as majority leader more
sparingly than any of his predecessors,
    preferring "conference and
    compromise."
A native of Niagara Falls, Brydges
    attended Niagara University and
    graduated from the University of
Buffalo Law School in 1926. p
He suffered a heart attack Jan. 17,
1962, but resumed his legislative duties
    after his recovery.

    Notes:

William H. "Buddy" Brydges, age 74, passed away at his home in Naples, FL, on Tuesday May 2, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on October 21, 1943 in Niagara Falls, NY, to Earl W. Brydges and Eleanor (Mahoney) Brydges.
He attended high school in Wilson, NY. Upon graduation he attended St. John Fisher in Rochester, NY. He was faithfully called to serve with the Edmundite Missions in Selma, AL. He proudly served in the Army National Guard. He received his degree from the State University of New York at Albany. He had a long and distinguished career as the Deputy Chief Clerk of the New York State Court of Claims.
On October 11, 1968, he married the love of his life Barbara Ann Dumas. Together they have four daughters and one son.
Buddy lived life to its fullest. He loved the horses at Saratoga Racetrack, the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. His greatest talent, however, was as a storyteller. His humor, wit and charm were undeniable. To his children's chagrin, he never missed an opportunity to grab a microphone, the center of the stage, and entertain the crowd. The only thing he loved more than sinking a putt to beat one of his brothers or his cousin in golf was to talk about it after.
He was incredibly generous to family, friends and strangers alike. Nothing gave him more joy than to start a day getting his grandchildren dozens of Dunkin' Donuts and end it cooking family and friends his famed seafood pescatore. A true family man, Uncle Bud was beloved by his nieces and nephews. He was a man of great faith and attended Mass regularly. He will be missed by all who had the great fortune to know him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Jerry. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara; daughters, Jennifer Brydges, Kelly (Bob) Turner, Betty Jean (Jimmer) Szatkowski , Marcy (Matt) McNamara; and son, Michael Francis; sisters, Marylynn (Bill) Barden, Margaret (Pat) Martin, Janet Brydges; brothers, Earl (Marty) Brydges, Dennis (Evelyn) Brydges, Thomas (Melissa) Brydges; and 11 loving grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 11th at 11 AM, St. Brendon, Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 345 Lake St. Wilson, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse of Collier County, Center for the Blindness and Vision Loss.
