"The first mention of a cemetery in Bowmansville was in the deed of land sold by
Abraham Frick to Isaac Staley in 1840. It specified that a quarter acre of fenced land
used as a burial ground was not to be included in the sale. This is the section at the
east front of Transit Rural Cemetery, the part that contains the oldest graves and stones.

KENMORE — Katherine I. Silsby, of Kenmore, New York, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Silsby was born in Middleport, NY, on September 16, 1921 daughter of the late Thomas and Carrie (Zent) White. She and her husband, Robert W. Silsby, were married on June 26, 1943 and she has lived in Kenmore since 1952.

Mrs. Silsby was employed by the Kenmore School System as a teacher's aide retiring in 1990 after 23 years of service. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Kenmore, and was a member of the Neuman Guild of the church and she was also a member of the Erie County Red Cross. She enjoyed her family, traveling and she enjoyed knitting hats for charity and she distributed them around the world. On Mrs. Silsby's 75th birthday she and her husband, Robert, traveled to Moscow; on her 76th birthday they traveled to Bejing, China and on their 55th Wedding Anniversary they went on a walking tour of Tuscany, traveling 10 miles a day.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Betty Holahan, Margaret Bixler, Frank White and Grace Schiffert. She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Silsby; four children, John (Robin) Silsby of Connecticut, Mary (Sam) Vitello of Lockport, Susan Hedges of Middleport and Kenmore and Charles (Geneva) Silsby of Lockport; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation. Friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral service on Monday at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Stephen's Church, 21 Vernon Street, Middleport, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Fawls. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery. Memorials to the American Red Cross would be appreciated by the family.

Virginia M. Uschold, age 94, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Odd Fellow & Rebekah Rehab & Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born in Williamsville, NY on June 5, 1920, the daughter of Martin Degan and Marion (Zent) Degan Fitchlee. She was a 1938 graduate of Williamsville High School.

Virginia was predeceased by her beloved husband Duane J. Uschold on May 21, 1998. They were married on July 16, 1960 in Lockport, NY. She also was predeceased by her beloved son and daughter, L. She is also survived by her many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who will all miss her dearly. She also leaves behind her beloved Chloe.

Virginia worked at Cordays Dress Shop in Lockport in the late 1950s and loved working there. After she married Dewey she was happy to stay at home and be a wife, mother and grandmother. She had lived at the Lockport Presbyterian Home since October, 2013, where she loved being and loved all of her new "family" who cared so lovingly for her and her new friends who lived there. She was a little social butterfly and loved getting involved in everything. Most recently she was cared for at Odd Fellows Home. She loved everyone there and they took such wonderful loving care of her during her last days, especially her granddaughter Stacey Kleitz.

Virginia was a member of the Lockport United Church of Christ, 98 East Ave, Lockport, NY, where a memorial service will be held Thursday January, 29, 2015 at 11AM with the Rev. Stephen Hall officiating. Entombment immediately following the service at Glenwood Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at Virginia's favorite restaurant, Cammarata's. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in her honor to the Lockport Presbyterian Home Resident's Fund or to a charity of one's choice.

Erla E. Linderman, 96, of Anderson, SC, formerly of Lockport, NY, passed to heaven on December 7, 2014.

Preceding in death her husband, Warren Linderman of Lockport, and her brother, Rollin Miller of Clarence, NY. Surviving are her son, Wayne (Cathy) Linderman; her granddaughter, Julie (David) Parsons and grandson, Steven (Regina) Linderman, and eight great grandchildren

She had an active Christian life in her church, and as a leader of Lockport Christian Woman's Club and volunteer at the Lockport Memorial Hospital Guild. She worked at the Pentagon offices during WWII, thereafter opened a bakery & ice cream parlor in Clarence, NY, and then worked for Dr. Neuer of Lockport.

She has left behind memories of her sweet personality, and a legacy of her strong Christian faith and love for Jesus, her devoted love to her family, and the giving and helping of others. She will be deeply missed by all.

A private memorial service will be held for family only. The family requests that donations be made to Niagara Hospice.

Betty worked at National Grinding Wheel and DeGraff Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Pius X and St. John the Baptist RC Church.

1958 Graduate of Tonawanda High School and Consultant for the Niagara Falls School System

Ronald C. "Ruggy" Shiesley, age 75 of Niagara Falls and formerly of the City of Tonawanda, unexpectedly Thursday, January 15, 2015. A resident of Niagara Falls for the past 20 years, he was the son of the late Lester L. Sr. and Hazel Mislin Shiesley and brother of the late Vern, Robert and Gerald Shiesley and Jean Emery. Ronald was a 1958 graduate of Tonawanda High School where he excelled in Football, Baseball and Basketball and was inducted into the Tonawanda High School Athletic Wall of Fame. He also attended Boston University. He was employed as Consultant for Niagara Falls School System and was a former Commissioner of Niagara County Parks and also Niagara Falls Parks and Public Works. He was a mentor of youth for many in Western New York. Ron founded Big Daddy's Pizzeria in 1982 and was former owner of Jolly Rug's, both in North Tonawanda. He was a member of the Eldredge Club, Third Warders Social Club, LaSalle Yacht Club, Niagara County Judges and Police Assn. and DeFasio Stadium Grill Sports Club.

He is survived by his son, Robert C. (Lynn Broncato) Shiesley; his grandson Karl D. Marc A. Eglin passed away August 4, 2023 in Niagara Hospice House. Born September 15, 1949 in Lockport he was the son of Emil and Norma (Zent) Eglin. Marc worked for 38 years at Delphi in Lockport retiring in 2009 as a purchaser. He enjoyed watching sports, golfing, and was an avid fan of both the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Braves.
Marc is survived by his wife of 50 years Nancy (Miller) Eglin; children Kerri (Todd) Mitchell, Nicholas (Amanda) Eglin, and Stephan Eglin; grandchildren Addison, Cailin, Aubrey, Norah, and Lucie; brother Paul (Deborah) Eglin; also several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Marc was also predeceased by his brother James Eglin.
Marc felt passionate about donating his brain to the Mayo Clinic to help further research of this rare disease in hopes to help others.
