Mr. Voelker was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, the Bergholtz Volunteer Fire County, the LaSalle Sportsman Club, Retired employee of Carborundum with 43 years service. Survived by his wife Gladys (nee Mellenthine); 2 sons, Mark (Jan) Voelker, and Earl (Ruth) Voelker both of the Town of Wheatfield; a daughter, Lynn Voelker of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; 7 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Kenneth of Lewiston and Gordon of W. Virg.; 4 sisters, Mrs. Adolph (Hazel) Wiegand and Mrs. Leonard Pollard both of the Town of Wheatfield, Mrs. Norman (Alfrieda) Andrees of N. Tonawanda and Mrs. Herbert (Audrey) of Medina. The family will receive friends at the Fretthold Funeral Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd. today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held in St. James Lutheran Church Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John H. Crilley will officiate. Interment in St. James Lutheran Cemetery. If so desired, memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or the organ fund. 3. | VOELKER, Earl Edward (1.Melvin1) was born on 17 Feb 1943 in North Tonawanda, Niagara County, NY; died on 31 Mar 2021 in Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County, NY. Notes: EARL E. VOELKER, age 78 of Wheatfield, NY, was called unexpectedly to his heavenly home on March 31, 2021 at his residence. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on February 17, 1943; son of the late Melvin and Gladys (Mellenthine) Voelker. Earl was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield, attended LaSalle High School for a year, then was a student at Niagara Wheatfield High School, graduating in their first graduating class of 1961. Earl served in the United States Navy from 1961-1963. He was self-employed in his home improvement business for several years, and later as a supervisor at DuPont Chemical, in Niagara Falls, retiring in 2001. A long time member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, in Bergholz, he held various positions including on the school board, boys basketball coach, and mowed lawn at the church cemetery. Earl was also a member of the Bergholz Fire Company, and the Bergholz German Band Colorguard. He enjoyed golfing with his buddies, was an avid sports fan, and in high school excelled in football, baseball, basketball and track. Earl was inducted into the Niagara Wheatfield Sports Hall of Fame, for football and basketball.Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth Elaine (Camann) Voelker, whom he married on May 29, 1965; four children, Rebecca Scherrer of Bergholz, Daniel (Christine) Voelker of Prince Frederick, Maryland, Rachel Burleigh-Voelker and Luke Voelker both of Bergholz; a brother, Mark (Jan) Voelker; grandchildren, Mitchell Scherrer, Mariah (Patrick) Noonan, Benjamin Voelker, Sophia Voelker, Ava Burleigh, Wesley Burleigh, Scarlett Burleigh; great-grandchildren, Liam and Delilah Noonan; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lynn Voelker.Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Denton White, on Friday, April 9 at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Luther Street in Bergholz. Interment with military honors will follow in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
