6. | GRANIERI, Raymond Rudolph (1.Frank1) was born on 23 Sep 1933 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY; died on 28 Jan 2016 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY. Notes:
Ray Granieri, 82, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 28th, 2016. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on September 23, 1933, he was the loving son of the late Frank and Elena Granieri.
Ray was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. He attended local schools and graduated with an A.A.S. Degree from the Erie County Technical Institute in 1958. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on March 26, 1955. Ray married Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Conahan on May 25, 1960 and together raised four beautiful children.
Ray primarily worked in the Niagara Falls area. He held several positions in local industries and retired from Occidental Chemical Corp. in 1996, having worked his way up to Manager of Technology Facilities. He was very proud to be a member of the Board of Directors at the Niagara’s Choice Credit Union, where he served as Vice President. He looked forward to starting his day at the Credit Union and participating in Credit Union Functions.
Mr. Granieri was a devout catholic and longtime member of the former Sacred Heart Church and St. Joseph’s Church, where he served as an usher for over 40 years. He was also a former president of the Sacred Heart Parish Council and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Ray was the last surviving member of the 15th Street Round Table. This collection of his brothers, one patient sister, his wife Beth, and cousins gathered daily to discuss, and laugh about a wide range of topics. He was very active in sports, participating in various softball, golf, tennis, bowling and volleyball leagues. He also brought this competitive spirit to the card table; the favorite euchre and pinochle partner for several generations of the Granieri family.
Ray was most happy being around his family and friends - especially his grandchildren. A highlight of his year was the annual Granieri Family picnic at Fort Niagara - which began 40 years ago and continues today with the leadership of his niece Tina Granieri.
Mr. Granieri also loved to travel with his wife, Beth, and took many trips with his children and grandchildren, as well as Beth’s brothers. He had a thirst for new experiences and seeing different areas of the country and even the world. He looked forward to annual trips to St. Augustine, FL where he was, as always, surrounded by his children and grandchildren and was able to play his retirement sport of choice - golf.
He was a good man that will be missed.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, Ray is survived by his four children Kim (Matthew Barmasse) Granieri, Ray (Lisa McKean) Granieri, Kelly (Brad) Mundt and Kathy (Tim Kenyon) Granieri; ten grandchildren Kiele Barmasse, Hailey Barmasse, Miller Barmasse, Bennett Granieri, Luke Kenyon, Lauren Granieri, Nathan Mundt, Ella Kenyon, Kate Kenyon and Anna Mundt. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and those who adopted him as their “Uncle Ray.” Ray was predeceased by his brothers Hank, Sam and Babe, as well as his sister Martha Granieri.
