    Notes:

    Norma L. (Housman) Holland, 92, of Youngstown, NY, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, in the presence of her loving family, at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital. Born on January 12, 1926 in West Chester, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Verna (Dewees) Housman.

    Norma came to Niagara Falls as a child with her family and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1945. She proudly served in the United States Navy, as the first Wave Station Keeper, until her honorable discharge on April 18, 1953. Norma was employed as a secretary for both Carborundum and Nabisco. She was the oldest member of the LDS Church and for over 50 years enjoyed genealogy.

    Norma is survived by children, Douglas (Constance “Connie”) Holland and Debra Targon; grandchildren, Dawn Jowett, Michael Targon, Amanda (John) Jacobs, Jr., Jeffrey Lentz, Tina Shugarts, John (Nicole) Shugarts, Tammy Shugarts and Mary Shugarts; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Matthew, Gabrielle, Alexzander, Zachary, Trevor, Andon, Tyler, Caleb, Alyssa, Sara, Lily, Sandra and C.J.; her brother, John (late Jeannette) Housman and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Vee Housman.

    Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, concluding with Military Honors, on Sunday, July 29th at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Scovell Drive in Lewiston, with a luncheon to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Conquer Chiari (www.conquerchiari.org, go to sponsor walker then Buffalo NY and under name-Amanda Jacobs).

    HOUSMAN - Vee L., Navy veteran historian

    YOUNGSTOWN - Vee L. Housman, a key member of the Town of Porter Historical Society and a Navy veteran, died Saturday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a long illness. She was 74.

    Born in Collier Township, near Pittsburgh, she moved to Niagara Falls in 1936 with her parents, and graduated from Niagara Falls High School.

    Miss Housman enlisted in the Navy in 1953 and retired as chief petty officer in 1987. During her Naval career, she served in many capacities, mainly in California. Her last active duty assignment was as a department head with the Navy Recruiting District Buffalo Headquarters.

    After her return to work in Niagara Falls in 1977, she settled in Youngstown, where she became interested in Porter's history. She was a past president of the Town of Porter Historical Society and for many years was a volunteer worker in its research museum, where she was appointed museum director.

    She wrote a book about Porter, "It Happened Just Down the Road."

    She also researched the Porter residents from the early 1800s and for years assisted people in genealogy research.

    Survivors include her brother, John C. Sr. of Bellview, Texas; and a sister, Norma L. Sesto of Roy, Utah.

    Services with military honors will be held Friday in Harrisburg, Pa. Burial will be in Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin, Pa.

    Vee married LAUER, Richard Alan on 29 Apr 1950 in First Baptist Church, NIagara Falls, NY. Richard (son of LAUER, Lewis F Sr and PEARSON, Lillian Mae) was born on 28 Feb 1929 in Niagara Falls, NY; died on 8 Aug 2001 in Odessa Texas Medical Center, Odessa, TX; was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY - cremated.
