E. Jagow, 92, a lifelong resident of
this village, died last night at
Memorial hospital, Niagara Falls,
after a short illness. Mrs. Jagow
made her home with a daughter,
Mrs. Frank Camann. Washington
street. She was the wife of the
late Charles Jagow.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs.
Camann and Mrs. William Sieg-
mann, of St. Johnsburg; three sons,
John DeVantier, Niagara Falls, Al-
bert and William DeVantier, this
village; 22 grandchildren and 19
great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the
Camann home and at 2:30 o'clock
at St. James church. The Rev.
Otto Bruss will officiate. Inter-
ment will be in St. James ceme-
tery. Flowers are gratefully de-
clined.

WHEATFIELD, Nov. 5.-Mrs. August Sy, well known resident of the Town of Wheatfield, died today at the family home in the Sy road. Mrs. Sy also had many friends at Niagara Falls where she was formerly employed. She is survived by her husband, August Sy, at home; her parents, Charles and Hulda Jagow, of Wheatfield; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Cammann (sic), Mrs. William Siegmen (sic) and Mrs. Charles Siegmen (sic), all of Wheatfield, and four brothers, John DeVantier, of Niagara Falls, and Albert DeVantier, William DeVantier and Rudolph Jagow, all of Wheatfield. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family home in the Sy road and at 2:30 o'clock at St. James Lutheran church. Interment will be in Holy Ghost cemetery. The Rev. Former Carbo Foreman Dies
John DeVantier. 78, of 1627 Weston Ave.. a retired foreman of the Carborundum County, died today (Aug. 30, 1958) at 'Memorial Hospital after a six-month illness.
Born in Bergholtz, Mr. DeVantier resided in this city for 60 years. He was well-known in the Pine Ave. area, where for many years he did general handyman work at several homes. He was employed at the Carborundum for 26 years before retiring in 1946. Mr. DeVantier was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was a past deacon and elder.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Agnes DeVantier; a son, Max F. Haseley, of Lewiston; one brother, William DeVantier, Bergholtz; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Camann, Bergholtz, and Mrs. William Siegman, St. Johnsburgh (sic), and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Gridley Funeral Home, Tuesday at 2 p.m. and at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 2:30. The Rev. Evan J. Bartell will officiate. Burial wil1 be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Bergholtz.

William DeVantier, 82, Dies After Heart Attack
SANBORN - William G. DeVantier, 82, of 2043 Cayuga Drive, died Monday evening (July 1, 1968) at his home, of an apparent heart attack, after a long illness. A native of Wheatfield, Mr. DeVantier was a resident of Niagara Falls for 54 years. He was a wheel molder at the Carborundum Co. for more than 25 years and was a member of the plant's 25 Year Club. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholtz and an elder of that parish for 15 years. He is survived by three sons, Gerhard, Martin and Norman DeVantier, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Rose) Camann and Mrs. William (Martha) Siegmann, all of Niagara Falls. Mr. DeVantier is also survived by eight, grandchildren. His wife, Margaretha, predeceased him. Friends may call at the Pike and Jones Funeral Home here from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services at St. James Lutheran Church will be held Friday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Robert Lehman officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery

Young Woman of Wheatfield Dead
NORTH TONAWANDA, Aug. 5.-Mrs. Ella M. Camann, 43, died today at her home in the Niagara Falls boulevard, town of Wheatfield, after a long illness. She was a life long resident of Wheatfield. She is survived by her husband, Harry F. Camann; a daughter, Viola; a son, Norman; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jagow; four sisters, Mrs. Frank Camann, Mrs. William Siegman, Mrs. Charles Siegman and Mrs. August Sy, and four brothers, Rudolph Jagow, John, Albert and William Devantier, all residents of Wheatfield except John, who lives at Niagara Falls. Martha A. Siegmann, 103, formerly of Errick Road, died Thursday (April 30, 1998) in Northgate Manor Nursing Home, where she had lived since 1985.
A lifelong resident of Wheatfield, the former Martha A. Jagow was the oldest living member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Siegmann also was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and enjoyed baking and gardening. Her husband, William C., died in 1964.
Survivors include four sons, Harold, Melvin, Donald.....a daughter, Clarice Poerschke; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sunday in St. John Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls Boulevard and Ward Road. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Rudolph C. Jagow Rites Held at Bergholtz
BERGHOLTZ, N. Y. Oct. 11 - Funeral services for Rudolph C. Jagow, who died Friday at his home in Niagara road, after a lingering illness, were largely attended. Almost 300 friends relatives and neighbors from all over Niagara county, were at the Holy Ghost Lutheran church services which were held from the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 at the Holy Ghost church. The bearers were Edwin J. Camann, Edward H. Eggert, Walter Mielke, Paul Mueller, Ervin ONeil and Arthur Stoelting. Honorary bearers were Christ Burow, George Camann, Valerius Ferchen, Jr., Dell Harvey. Arthur Heuer, William Loeschke, Henry Smith, Alvin Schimschack and Ralph Wittkopp. Mr. Jagow was born on May 12, 1901, at the corner of Hunt and Cayuga streets, this village. He was baptlzed on May 19 at the Holy Ghost church. When three years old, he moved with his parents to the corner of Walmore road and Old Falls boulevard. He attended the Holy Ghost parochial school. He was confirmed on March 28, 1915, In the Holy Ghost Evangelical Lutheran church, of which he was an active member, all his life. Twenty years ago, on April 26, he was married to Miss Alma Stoelting, of Pekin. N.Y., and had been the proprietor of a general store in Niagara road ever since. He was also an active member of the Bergholtz Volunteer Fire company. Mr. Jagow is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alma Stoelting Jagow; one daughter, Dolores Jagow, of this village; his mother, Mrs Hulda Jagow, this village; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Camann, of this village, and Mrs. William Siegman of St. Johnsburg, N. Y., and three step brothers, John DeVantier, of Niagara Falls, N. Y. and Albert and William, of the Town of Wheatfield. The Rev. John Kuchenbecker officiated at the services. The school children in charge of H. W. Krage. sang. "Asleep In Jesus," at the church service. Interment was in Holy Ghost cemetery.

Elenora H. Pfohl (DeVantier), age 93, of Wheatfield, was called peacefully to her heavenly home to be with our Lord, on Thursday, April 29, 2010, in the comfort of her home, with her loving family at her side. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, on July 30, 1916 to the late Albert and Ella (Milleville) DeVantier. Elenora was baptized, confirmed and later united in marriage to Erwin G. Pfohl on October 12, 1940, in St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, Bergholz. Erwin predeceased her on December 15, 1993. Elenora and Erwin became members of St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church, Walmore, in 1940. She was very active in the church, holding various positions over the years, and with the church's Women of the Church and the Women's Quilting Group, sending hundreds of quilts to those in need in other countries. Her hobbies included sewing, playing cards, cooking and baking. Elenora's life was centered on her family and her greatest joy in life came in spending time with them. Lovingly known to many as "Gramma Peeps", she spent countless hours babysitting her great-grandchildren and taught them German prayers. She was admired by her family for her strong faith and devotion to God and her family.
Elenora was the beloved mother of Ann Kroening and Eugene (Candy) Pfohl; admired grandmother of Lynn Hebeler, Lee and Lynette Kroening, and Scott and Joelle Pfohl; cherished great-grandmother of Jarred and Brianne Hebeler, Ian, Colin and Ella Kroening, Ryan and Nicholas Pfohl. She was also predeceased by a son, Loren Pfohl in 1960; son-in- law, Albert (Jr.) Kroening in 2000; and sister, Helma Haseley in 1991.
Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road (Bergholz), in Wheatfield, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. She worked at the former Hens and Kelly store in the Summit Park Mall for eight years.
She is survived by her husband, Richard H.; three daughters, Eileen of Sanborn, Joyce Schultz of North Tonawanda and Sharon Wendt of Amherst; a son, Wayne of Rochester; a sister, Elnora Pfohl of Sanborn, and six grandsons

WHEATFIELD - Helma E. DeVantier Haseley, 71, mother of a Sanborn resident died Wednesday, at home.
Born in Wheatfield, she was the daughter of Albert and Ella Milleville DeVantier.
Mrs. Haseley and her husband Richard would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct 25,
A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, she was a Sunday school teachers and member of the church Altar Committee and Women of the Church.
Mrs. Haseley worked for eight years at Hens & Kelly's store at the Summit Park mall.
Besides her husband, surviving are three daughters, including Eileen of Sanborn, a son; a sister, Elenora Pfohl of Sanborn and six grandsons.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today at DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road.
Services will be at 11 A.M. Friday at the church with the Rev. David B Menz officiating.
Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.

WHEATFIELD - Gerhard "Gerry" W. DeVantier, 75, of Cayuga Drive Extension, died Wednesday (March 21, 1990) at his home.
The Wheatfield native worked at the Carborundum Co. Bonded Division in Niagara Falls 41 years, retiring in 1979. He was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church and former trustee of the church, a member of the Carborundum Alumni Association, and an exempt member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Co.
His wife, Martha E. (Haseley) DeVantier, died Dec. 13, I986. He is survived by a son, Gary L. DeVantier of North Tonawanda; two daughters, Connie Washburn of North Tonawanda ,and Marcia A. DeVantier of Niagara Falls; a brother, Martin DeVantier of Bergholz, seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Norman DeVantier.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Friday at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz, where the Bergholz Fire Co. will have a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday.

DeVantier, 77, was born in Wheatfield and lived in Bergholz all his life.
He served in Europe with the U.S. Army during World War II.
DeVantier was a member of Wheatfield Post, American Legion, and
the LaSalle Sportsmen's Club and was an exempt member of Bergholz
Volunteer Fire Company.
He worked at National Grinding Wheel in North Tonawanda for 43 years, retiring in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred E.; two sons, Dale and David, both of Wheatfield; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday in St. James Lutheran Church, Niagara Road and Rohr Street. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery.

BERGHOLTZ - Norman A. DeVantier, 55. of 2043 Cayuga Drive Extension died Tuesday (Oct. 25, 1977) in Sister's Hospital, Buffalo, after an apparent heart attack. A lifelong resident of the Town of Wheatfield, he served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and had been employed by the National Grinding Wheel County, North Tonawanda, as a machinist for over 20 years. He was a member, trustee, president, and elder of St. Jame's (sic) Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was an exempt member of the Bergholtz Volunteer Fire County, a member of the Wheatfield American Legion Post 1451, the Wheatfield Republican Club, and was a Wheatfield Republican town committeeman.
Survivors include his wife. Pearl Haseley DeVantier; a son, Scott DeVantier, two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Marlene) Sivecz of Spencerport, and Miss Lauren DeVantier, at home; two brothers, Gerhard and Martin DeVantier, both of Niagara Falls, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the St. Jame's (sic) Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John H. Crilley officiating. Burial will be in St. Jame's (sic) Lutheran Cemetery.

NIAGARA FALLS — Wilmer F.C. Camann, age 95, of Niagara Falls, was called to his heavenly home on February 13, 2011 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. Born in the Town of Wheatfield on July 18, 1915 to the late Franklin and Rosa (Jagow) Camann. He attended local schools and was employed at the Carborundum Company-Bonded Abrasives for 40 years, retiring in 1980. Wilmer was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. He used to enjoy hunting and years ago played in the Bergholz Band.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Evelyn H. (SaintDenny) Camann; a daughter, Gail (Seale) Williamson of Alabama; two grandchildren, Steven Williamson and Susan Bishop; and four great-granddaughters; a sister, Jean Klettke of Bergholz and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, an infant at birth and Gerald Camann; and two sisters, Edna McClenathan and Marion Meitz.

Jean was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, attended Holy Ghost School and graduated from LaSalle High School. She enjoyed English (German was spoken at home), home economics and bookkeeping. When she was 16, she began working at Kresge's Department Store in Niagara Falls.
Jean married Ivan "Corky" Klettke on July 12, 1952 in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they lived in California and Rhode Island as Corky fulfilled his naval enlistment. They returned to purchase their family home on part of Jean's family's homestead. They celebrated holidays with extended family and friends, except for July 4, when they served the community at the Bergholz Fire Company Field Days.
Jean and Corky enjoyed Sunday outings at Camp Pioneer in Angola. They took semi-annual vacations to Rhode Island, enjoyed family camping trips, winter trips to Florida and driving to Alaska as retirees in 1994.
For most of her life, Jean was a homemaker and mother. In later years, she served as secretary and bookkeeper in the family land surveying business. She volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Parent Teacher League and the Ladies' Aide Society. She held offices in the Bergholz Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary and Historical Society of North German Settlements in Western NY, worked as elections inspector for the Niagara County Board of Elections, and was a member of the Valparaiso University Guild.
Jean is survived by her four sons, Neal (Sue), Russell, Bart (Gloria) and Matthew (Kareen); nine grandchildren, Lynette Boesken (Mark), Andy, Ted (Ariel, Erin, Cam, Joshua (engaged to Sarah Sorrentino), Kirsten, Noah and Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Stone and Pia Boesken; and three nieces, Gail Williamson (Rex), Elspeth Nevelson and Maria Nevelson. She is predeceased by her husband, Corky; and siblings, Edna McClenathan, Wilmer Camann and Marion Meitz.

BERGHOLZ - Norman R. Camann; 71, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Bergholz, died Sunday (July 30,1989) at Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo.
The Wheatfield native was the son of the late Harry and Ella Jago (sic) Camann. He founded the Norman R. Camann Plumbing and Heating Co. in Wheatfield in 1945. He retired in 1980 and moved to Sarasota.
He was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Wheatfield, an associate member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Florida, an exempt member of the Bergholz Fire Company, a member of the Lutheran Layman's League, the Wheatfield Business Association and the Town of Wheatfield Plumbing Board. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in January.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Lenhardt Camann; sons, Leonard Camann of Charlotte, N.C., and Raymond Camann of Bergholz; a sister, Viola Furry of Wheatfield; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Chester Camann.

Donald P. Siegmann, age 73 of the Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County, NY, died Sunday October 16, 2005, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of the Town of Wheatfield, born on July 2, 1932, in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, the son of William and Martha [ Jagow ] Siegmann, where he attended local schools. Donald served in the Korean War in the United States Army from November 18, 1952 to November 17, 1954.
He was employed as a construction laborer through Local 210 and had been employed by many local building contractors, including W. W. Kimmins & Sons of Kenmore, NY. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, a 50 year member of the St. Johnsburg Volunteer Fire Company and a 50 year member of the Wheatfield American Post # 1451.
Donald enjoyed farming and gardening and volunteering at the fire hall.
His family was very important to him, especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Siegman was a life member of the Niagara County Volunteer Firemen's Association, the Niagara County Fire Police Association and a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was superintendent of the church cemetery.

DOLORES A. HILL, age 84, of Cambria, NY, was called peacefully to her heavenly home on August 19, 2019 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, NY. Born in the hamlet of Bergholz, Town of Wheatfield on July 5, 1935; daughter of the late Rudolph and Alma (Stoelting) Jagow. She was a Niagara Falls High School graduate, and was employed at Bell Aerospace, and later at Union Carbide, in the office. Dolores was a devoted homemaker, a lifelong active member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where she served as organist for many years, helped with Vacation Bible School, was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Altar Guild, and the LWML. Dolores was also a member of the German Historical Society, loved music, baking, gardening, playing cards with the card club, and the quality time spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include her loving husband, Arthur Hill. They were united in marriage on June 27, 1959; two children, Stephen Hill of Bergholz, and Laurie (Thomas) Wikander of Wheatfield; six grandchildren, Joshua Waller, Britney and Christopher Hill, and Sarah, Jessica and Madeline Wikander; and three great-grandchildren, Seth, Christian and Eden.

Kroening, Jr. on November 22, 1962. He was called home on August 2, 2000. Ann worked with her husband at their family business, the former Sanborn Milling Company, until 2002. Her hobbies included quilting with the St. Peter's women's quilting group, where she coordinated and assisted in shipping many quilts all over the world, shopping, sewing, cooking for her family, mowing the lawn and keeping busy. Ann's life was centered around her family, her faith in God, and everyone was always welcomed to spend time with her and her family. She was the beloved mother of Lynn (William) Lekki and Lee (Lynette) Kroening; cherished "mom" of Scott (Joelle) Pfohl; treasured and admired grandmother of Jarred and Betty Hebeler, Brianne Hebeler, Ian, Colin and Ella Kroening, Ryan and Nick Pfohl. SANBORN — Eugene A. Pfohl, age 64, of Sanborn, was called peacefully to his heavenly home on January 20, 2014, while under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. Born in the Town of Lewiston, NY on April 10, 1949, he was the son of the late Erwin and Elenora (DeVantier) Pfohl. Eugene was a 1967 graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School. He was employed for 33 years at the former family business, Sanborn Milling Company, and 13 years as a truck driver with AT&A Trucking. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and attending classic car shows. Eugene spent countless hours working on his prized possession, a 1967 Dodge RT, of which he won several trophies and plaques. He was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church-LCMC in Walmore, spent many years and really enjoyed coaching the St. Peter's boys and girls high school basketball team, and greatly enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his son, Scott (Joelle) Pfohl; grandchildren, Ryan and Nicholas Pfohl; a sister, Ann Kroening; niece, Lynn Hebeler; nephew, Lee (Lynette) Kroening; and great-nieces and nephews, Jarred and Brianne Hebeler, Ian, Colin and Ella Kroening. Also predeceased by a brother, Loren Pfohl.

Larry L Siegmann, 72 of Appleton entered into rest on Friday June 24th, 2022 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport. He was born on August 20th, 1949 in North Tonawanda, NY to the late Lester and Adelean Byrd Siegmann.
Larry worked for and retired from the New York State Parks and Recreation as the Manager/Supervisor at the Cave of the Winds at Niagara Falls State Park. He was a life member of the St. Johnsburg Fire Co. in North Tonawanda, He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working his land along side his loving pal Zeke.
Surviving are his sons; Mark (Brenda) Siegmann and Greg Siegmann (Karen Brown); his grandchildren Paige Parsons, Julia, Danielle, Allison, Leah and Sara Siegmann, soon to arrive any day is his great granddaughter Piper Glass. Also surviving is his loving pal, his dog Zeke, as well as numerous other family members and friends.

Life Story


The world lost a beautiful soul, Blake Austin Chaffee, also known as Buford, 22, of the Town of Niagara, NY. He went home to be with his ‘Pa’ and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 7, 2023.  Born on September 25, 2000 in Williamsville, NY, he was the son of Michael Chaffee and Deena L. (Marohn) Chaffee.

 
Buford graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School in 2018. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholz. He was employed by KWH where he worked for his Uncle, Kevin Haseley, CPM, WNY Mobile Home and Jim’s Trucking and Paving.  Most importantly, because of his vast knowledge and kindness, at a moments notice he would help anyone with anything, be it a phone call or even someone stranded on the side of the road. He spent numerous hours in the garage with his 'Pa', Jeff Marohn, learning so many things.  His mind that never stopped truly made him a 'jack-of-all-trades.’

 
In addition to his beloved parents, Blake is survived by his brother, Gage (Lisa Dussault) Chaffee; fur siblings, Ryder, Ninja and CJ; fur niece, Oakley, who he affectionally called 'sunglasses'; grandparents, Brenda (late Jeff) Marohn and Karen Chaffee and Gary Chaffee and way to many special aunts, uncles and cousins to list by name.  He will be forever in the hearts of his family and friends, who he referred to as 'buddy', especially Chris Dingey, Paul Boyd and Jim Rose. He was predeceased by his treasured uncles, Doni and Bruce; his dog, Bailey; cat, Cashmere and so many dear relatives and friends.

 
Blake would not want you to be come dressed up.  Come as you are.  Carhartt's, jeans and work boots are preferred.

 
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, from 4-8 p.m., at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007).  Buford’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 14th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church on Niagara Road in Bergholz, with Rev. Randy Kaminska officiating.  Friends invited. Everyone assemble at the church.  Prayers of committal and interment will follow in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery, Bergholz, NY.  Flowers gratefully declined.
