Hugo Walck, town civic leader, dies
WHEATFIELD - Hugo A. Walck, 88, of 2440 Lockport Road, died unexpectedly today (June 19, 1973) shortly after admission to Memorial Medical Center.
A lifelong resident of Wheatfield, he was born on his father's farm, adjacent to his residence. He was a farmer for over 65 years.
He was a justice of the peace for 20 years, a former director of the Niagara County Farm Bureau, active in the Town of Wheatfield government and a member of the Wheatfield School Board for over 20 years.
He was also a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore, and the Police Chiefs and Judges Association.
Survivors include his wife, Ella L.; two sons, Harold A. Walck, of the Town of Tonawanda and Hugo C. Walck of Sanborn; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Florence) Stoelting and Mrs. Wilmer (Hilda) Wurl, both of Bergholtz; one sister, Mrs. Esther Lang (sic) of Walmore, eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Harvey Walck, and a daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Lydia) Ferchen.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore, with the Rev. Harold L. Baum officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Rhoney Funeral Home, Sanborn, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family said contributions may be made to St. Peter's Church Memorial Fund

NORTH TONAWANDA - Hilda E. (nee Walck) Jagow-Wurl, age 94, of North Tonawanda, formerly of Bergholz, was called peacefully to her heavenly home on May 19, 2012 at the Northgate Health Care Facility, under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, on October 21, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Hugo A. and Ella (Haseley) Walck. Hilda was self employed as a Beautician, operating the former Bergholz Beauty Shop, for 35 years. She was an active member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, the Altar Guild, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and a Sunday School teacher. Hilda was predeceased by her first husband, Walter F. Jagow, in 1949 and her second husband, Wilmer E. Wurl, in 1987; also three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include three children, Sharon (Thomas) Montie of North Tonawanda, Linda (Robert) Martin of Hamburg and Charles (Marilyn) Jagow of Sherwood, OR; grandchildren, Timothy (Carrie) Montie, Sara (Nathan) Hembree, Donna (James) Reese, Christy (Michael) Cocci and Corinna (Matthew) Ashmead; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Dubois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Friday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A memorial service will be held in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Luther Street in Bergholz on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Interment in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery. Hugo C. Walck, 75, of Lockport Road, Town of Wheatfield, died Monday, Oct. 8, , 1994, in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in the Town of Wheatfield on Nov. 4, 1918, to Hugo A. and Ella (Haseley) Walck, he was a lifelong resident of the town. He and Edna DeVantier were united in marriage June 7, 1941 and they celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary this year. An employee at the Chevrolet Plant on River Road in Tonawanda, he was a supervisor for 89 years, retiring in 1981. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and held various offices "including elder, Sunday School superintendent and Sunday School teacher. A U.s. Army veteran 'who served in WWII, he belonged to' the American Legion Wheatfield Post 1451. He was an amateur artist and painted many local churches and farms. He also enjoyed woodworking and fine furniture. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Brenda W. (Joel) Jaffe of Wheatfield and Mrs. Linda J. (Michael) Rozyczko of Niagara Falls; a sister, Mrs. Hilda Wurl of Bergholz; a grandson, Michael Rozyczko; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Harvey Walck; and two sisters, Lydia Ferchen and Florence Stoelting. . Funeral services were held I Wednesday, Oct. 5, in St. Peter's . Lutheran Church; Sanborn, with the Rev. Allen Griep officiating. Interment in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Wheatfield. Arrangements by Dubois Funeral Home. Hugo C. Walck, 75, of Lockport Road died Monday (Oct. 3, 1994) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.
A lifelong resident of Wheatfield, Walck worked as a supervisor at the Chevrolet plant on River Road in the Town of Tonawanda- for 39 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where he held various offices, including elder and Sunday school superintendent. He taught Sunday school for many years.
Walck was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion. He was an amateur artist and painted pictures of many churches and farms. He also enjoyed woodworking and fine furniture.
He is survived by his wife, the former Edna DeVantier; two daughters, Linda J. Rozyczko of Niagara Falls and Brenda W. Jaffe; a sister, Hilda Wurl of Bergholz; and a grandson.
Services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 6167 Walmore Road, Sanborn. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

DIES FROM INFECTION
11-year-old Walmore Child Passes after Illness from Leg Infection. Harvey Walck, 11 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Walck, Walmore, died Saturday in the children's hospital, Buffalo, after an illness of three weeks which developed from an infection in his leg. Funeral services will be held in the home of his parents tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and in St. Peter's church, Walmore, at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the Walmore cemetery. Besides his parents, the boy is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Arnold Stoelting and Mrs. Edward Furchen (sic), both of Bergholtz, and Hilda at home, and two brothers, Hugo and Harold, at home.

SHARON L. MONTIE, age 74, of North Tonawanda, NY, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, following a brief battle with cancer. Sharon was born on January 31, 1946 in Niagara Falls, NY, to Walter J. and Hilda E. (Walck) Jagow. She grew up in Bergholz and graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School. She earned an Associates degree in Medical Secretarial Arts, from Concordia Lutheran College in Bronxville, NY. She married Thomas Montie on September 3, 1967. They spent half of their married life in the Cleveland, OH area, before moving back to Niagara County in 1997. Sharon worked as an office manager for several medical practices and financial offices, beginning in 1982, until the time of her death.She was a church musician since she was a teenager, playing the piano and organ, and often directing choirs and special ensembles. Most recently, she was the organist and choir director at St. Mark Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, for over 20 years. She had a gift for leading people in worship. In her home, she was a faithful wife and mother.Survivors include her son, Timothy Montie; two daughters, Sara (Nathan) Hembree, and Carrie Montie; a brother, Charlie Jagow and sister-in-law, Marilyn Jagow; nine grandchildren, Aubrie, Michael, Bethany, Peter, Victor, Judah, Benjamin, Gloria, and Elijah; also sisters-in law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. DeVantier - Joan E. DeVantier, 48, of the Town of Wheatfield, Tuesday (January 6, 1981) at Buffalo General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mrs. DeVantier was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, the Women of the Church and was a former Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by her husband, Allan H. DeVantier; four sons, James (Sandra) DeVantier, Michael (Gail) DeVantier, Kenneth (Sherrill) DeVantier, all of the Town of Wheatfield, Paul DeVantier, at home; a daughter, Miss Susan DeVantier, at home and two grandsons, Anthony and Matthew.
The family will receive friends at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St., at Ward Rd., North Tonawanda, this evening from 7 to 9 and Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. OBITUARY

Clarice E. Becker of Sanborn, NY passed away on  Saturday, January 8, 2022, at her home under the loving care of her family and the wonderful nurses of Niagara Hospice.  She was born in Niagara Falls, NY on August 5, 1932, daughter of the late Edwin and Lydia [Walck]  Ferchen.

Clarice graduated from Niagara Falls High School. She was employed with the Niagara County Office for the Aging for many years before retiring.

Always known for taking the scenic route, Clarice enjoyed the journey as much as the destination.  If she wasn’t in her backyard gardening, Clarice was most likely visiting with the family she loved so much whether near or far.

Clarice was the wife of the late Wilfred W. "Bill"  Becker, who passed away in March of 2011. She is survived by  three daughters Barbara (Gregg) Gross, Diane (Gary) Marshall and Cathy (Kevin) Freiert, five grandchildren Derek (Viviana) Robinson, Heather (Mike) McCullen, Jamie (Luis) Roger, Amber and Taylor Marshall, five great grandchildren Ethan, Matthew and Jacob Robinson,Harper and Lennon Roger, two sisters Joyce (late Eugene) Coddington and Dorothy (late Robert) Jenneve,  also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, 6637 Luther Street, Niagara Falls, NY.
