NIAGARA FALLS - George "Chick" Heuer, age 89, was called to his heavenly home to be with our Lord and Savior on September 19, 2010 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on March 20, 1921 to the late George and Christine Heuer. George was predeceased by his loving wife, Helma (DeVantier) Heuer on December 26, 1986. They were united in marriage on August 3, 1946. George served in the U.S. Army in the 28th Infantry Division as a Heavy Machine Gunner during World War II. He was wounded in battle in Normandy, France on August 11, 1944, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. George was employed for 43 years at the National Grinding Wheel in North Tonawanda, retiring in 1984. He was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he held numerous offices over the years, including elder and sang for many years in the choir. He was chairman of the Building Committee during the construction of the church. He was a member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company for over 70 years and a former foreman and assistant chief. George was also a member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two devoted daughters, Cynthia and Marcia Heuer of Wheatfield; a sister, Lillian (late Chester) Haseley of Sanborn and brother-in-law, Dennis (Doris) DeVantier of Wheatfield; and several nephews and a niece. In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by two brothers, Martin and Arthur Heuer and a sister, Hildegarde.

Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road (Bergholz), in Wheatfield, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Philip N. Sallach on Thursday (Sept. 23) at 11:00 AM in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Luther Street, in Bergholz. Interment will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to The Lutheran Hour.
