Old Resident of Bergholtz District Laid to Rest at Walmore
BERHOLTZ (sic), April 6 -A number of friends and relatives from this village attended the funeral services for William DeVantier, 79, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence on Lockport Road and at 2:30 o'clock from St. Peter's Lutheran church at Walmore. The Rev. Edward F. Grabau officiated. Mr. DeVantier was the husband of Matilda Pfuhl, father of Mrs. Philip Haseley, Adolph DeVantier, William DeVantier and Mrs. Philip Walck, all of Walmore; brother of Albert DeVantier, of St. Johnsburg, and Mrs. Auguste Kroening, also of Walmore. He was the father of the late Albert DeVantier, of Walmore, who was electrocuted at his home last Fall, when he came in contact with a live wire and killed instantly. Interment was in Walmore cemetery.

Was Lifelong Resident of Bergholtz Vicinity.
BERGHOLTZ, Dec. 11-Albert F. DeVantier, 77 years old, a lifelong and well known resident of the Town of Wheatfield, died yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herbert Stenzel, of the Niagara Falls boulevard. Mr. DeVantier was formerly engaged in farming, having retired about 12 years ago. He was a member of St. James church and in former years took an active interest in church and social affairs in Bergholtz.
He is survived by six sons, Hugo, Harold and John, of Bergholtz, Edward and Bernard, of Niagara Falls, and Alfred, of Sanborn; five daughters. Mrs. John Voelker, of Buffalo, Mrs. Stenzel. of Bergholtz, Mrs. William Groening (sic), Jr., and Mrs. John Blank, Jr., of Sanborn, and Mrs. Edward Mueller, of Niagara. Falls; 22 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. August Kroening, of Sanborn.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Stenzel home and at 2:30 from St. James church, Bergholtz. The Rev. Otto Bruss will officiate and interment will be in St. James cemetery.

WHEATFIELD, Nov. 5.-Mrs. August Sy, well known resident of the Town of Wheatfield, died today at the family home in the Sy road. Mrs. Sy also had many friends at Niagara Falls where she was formerly employed. Former Carbo Foreman Dies
John DeVantier. 78, of 1627 Weston Ave.. a retired foreman of the Carborundum County, died today (Aug. 30, 1958) at 'Memorial Hospital after a six-month illness.
Born in Bergholtz, Mr. DeVantier resided in this city for 60 years. He was well-known in the Pine Ave. area, where for many years he did general handyman work at several homes. He was employed at the Carborundum for 26 years before retiring in 1946. Mr. DeVantier was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was a past deacon and elder.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Agnes DeVantier; a son, Max F. Haseley, of Lewiston; one brother, William DeVantier, Bergholtz; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Camann, Bergholtz, and Mrs. William Siegman, St. Johnsburgh (sic), and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Gridley Funeral Home, Tuesday at 2 p.m. and at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 2:30. The Rev. Evan J. Bartell will officiate. Burial wil1 be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Bergholtz.

William DeVantier, 82, Dies After Heart Attack
SANBORN - William G. DeVantier, 82, of 2043 Cayuga Drive, died Monday evening (July 1, 1968) at his home, of an apparent heart attack, after a long illness. A native of Wheatfield, Mr. DeVantier was a resident of Niagara Falls for 54 years. He was a wheel molder at the Carborundum Co. for more than 25 years and was a member of the plant's 25 Year Club. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholtz and an elder of that parish for 15 years. He is survived by three sons, Gerhard, Martin and Norman DeVantier, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Rose) Camann and Mrs. William (Martha) Siegmann, all of Niagara Falls. Mr. DeVantier is also survived by eight, grandchildren. His wife, Margaretha, predeceased him. Mrs. Haseley Dies at 71
SANBORN-Mrs. Hulda A. Haseley, 71, of Lockport Rd., died Thursday (July 30, 1959) in Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born in the Town of Niagara, Jan. 27, 1888, she was the daughter of August and Augusta DeVantier Kroening. She married Anthony Haseley 49 years ago. They made their home for many years in Tuscarora Rd., Town of Niagara. For the last seven years, they had lived in their present home in Lockport Rd.
Mrs. Haseley was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Edwin Walck, Lockport; Mrs. Max Haseley, Lewiston, and Mrs. Norman Wendt, Sanborn; a son, Harvey Haseley, also Sanborn; a sister, Mrs. Albert Haseley, Niagara Falls, and two brothers, Philip and Albert Kroening, both on Sanborn; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

PICKS UP LIVE WIRE AND MEETS INSTANT DEATH
Tuscarora Road Man Electrocuted by 2,200 volt Charge on Lawn of Home
Albert W. Devantier, 52 years old, of the Tuscarora road, R. F. D. Route No. I, was electrocuted this morning at 10:25 o'clock when he picked up a wire carrying 2,200 volts of electricity which had fallen across the lawn of his home. Falls firemen answered a call to the Deventier (sic) home to render first aid with the fire department inhalator but First Assistant Fire Chief Peter P. McGraw and Firemen Elmer Tevins and John Eagan reported that Devantier was dead when they reached the scene. Firemen said that the Niagara Falls Power company was installing some wires along the road near the Devantier home and that when one of the wires fell across Deventier's property he picked it up, not realizing that it was charged, and was instantly killed.

Adolph DeVantier, 87, of 9811 Lockport Road, died today (June 24, 1977) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a lengthy illness.
A lifelong resident of the Town of Niagara, he was a blacksmith throughout Western New York for over 60 years, prior to retiring in 1965.
He had served as the Town of Niagara Justice of the Peace and as a trustee of the Niagara District No. 2 School. He was an exempt member of the Niagara Fire Co. No.1 and a member of the Brotherhood of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He had celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary April 22, 1977.

Farmer Dies as a Result of Fall
Benjamin P. DeVantier, 41 years old, native of Sanborn and well known Ward road farmer, died in the Memorial hospital here this morning of injuries suffered last Thursday when he fell a short distance in his barn. Mr. DeVantier suffered a fractured skull and other injuries when a board broke as he was replacing some flooring and he was precipitated about eight feet.
The funeral will be held from the family home in the Ward road, Sanborn, at 2 p. m., daylight saving time, Wednesday, and from the Holy Ghost Lutheran church, Bergholtz, at 2:30 p. m. with the Rev. John Kuckenbecker officiating. Burial will be in Bergholtz cemetery.
Surviving Mr. DeVantier are his wife Esther Walck DeVantier; a daughter, Thelma may, and a son Dennis DeVantier, all of Sanborn; a brother, Edwin DeVantier, Wheatfield, and a sister, Mrs. Hubert Hasely (sic), of the Town of Niagara. WHEATFIELD - Bernard G. (Barney) DeVantier, 74, of 2266 Niagara Road, died today (August 23, 1971) in Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. A native of the Town of Wheatfield he was employed as a millwright at the Carborundum Co. for 42 years. He retired in 1962. For the past 19 years he was active in tourism as owner and operator of the DeVantier's Motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard. Mr. DeVantier was a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bergholtz. He served as a trustee on the church council and as a member of the building committee. Irma E. (DeVantier) Blank. 87, of Lockport Road, died Wednesday (April 13, 1994) at her daughter's home.
A native of Wheatfield, she was born Jan. 28, 1907, the daughter of Albert and Alma (Williams) DeVantier. She was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz. Mrs. Blank loved quilting, gardening and Bible study class. She was a homemaker most of her life.
She was the widow of John N. Blank, who died Jan. 19, 1969. Mrs. Blank is survived by a daughter. Dianne Retzlaff of Sanborn; a son, Darrell Blank of Sanborn; a brother, Alfred DeVantier of Sanborn; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Sandra Blank and was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz. The Rev. David B. The former Irma DeVantier was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz.
Mrs. Blank taught Bible study classes and enjoyed quilting and gardening.
Her husband, John N., died in 1969.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, Darrell, and a brother, Alfred DeVantier, both of Sanborn; eight

Alfred A. DeVantier, 89, of Franklin Street, Sanborn, NY, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002, in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born in the Town of Wheatfield, November 7, 1913, the son of Albert and Alma [Williams] DeVantier. Mr. DeVantier was graduate of North Tonawanda High School. He was a supervisor for the Carborundum Co. for over 43 years, before retiring in 1978.
Mr. DeVantier was a life long member of St. James Lutheran Church and an exempt member of St. Johnsburg Fire Co. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Mr. DeVantier was the husband of the late Martha [Williams] DeVantier, who died in July of 1998.
He is survived by two sons Rev. Peter A. (Judith) DeVantier of Wellsboro, PA and Fredric B. DeVantier of Sanborn, NY, also survived by four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Mr. DeVantier was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.
The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, NY, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday.

Alfred A.DeVantier, 89, who was a supervisor at Carborundum Co. for more than 43 years, died Tuesday (Nov. 12, 2002) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness.
He was born in Wheatfield and was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School.
DeVantier retired in 1978 from Carborundum.
He was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church and an exempt member of St. Johnsburg Fire Company. DeVantier enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
His wife, the former Martha Williams, died in 1998.
Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Peter A. of Wellsboro, Pa., and Fredric B. of Sanborn; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pfohl (DeVantier), age 93, of Wheatfield, was called peacefully to her heavenly home to be with our Lord, on Thursday, April 29, 2010, in the comfort of her home, with her loving family at her side. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, on July 30, 1916 to the late Albert and Ella (Milleville) DeVantier. Elenora was baptized, confirmed and later united in marriage to Erwin G. Pfohl on October 12, 1940, in St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, Bergholz. Erwin predeceased her on December 15, 1993. Elenora and Erwin became members of St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church, Walmore, in 1940. She was very active in the church, holding various positions over the years, and with the church's Women of the Church and the Women's Quilting Group, sending hundreds of quilts to those in need in other countries. Her hobbies included sewing, playing cards, cooking and baking. Elenora's life was centered on her family and her greatest joy in life came in spending time with them. Lovingly known to many as "Gramma Peeps", she spent countless hours babysitting her great-grandchildren and taught them German prayers. She was admired by her family for her strong faith and devotion to God and her family.
Elenora was the beloved mother of Ann Kroening and Eugene (Candy) Pfohl; admired grandmother of Lynn Hebeler, Lee and Lynette Kroening, and Scott and Joelle Pfohl; cherished great-grandmother of Jarred and Brianne Hebeler, Ian, Colin and Ella Kroening, Ryan and Nicholas Pfohl. She was also predeceased by a son, Loren Pfohl in 1960; son-in- law, Albert (Jr.) Kroening in 2000; and sister, Helma Haseley in 1991.

Born in Wheatfield, she was the daughter of Albert and Ella Milleville DeVantier.
Mrs. Haseley and her husband Richard would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct 25,
A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, she was a Sunday school teachers and member of the church Altar Committee and Women of the Church.
Mrs. Haseley worked for eight years at Hens & Kelly's store at the Summit Park mall.
Besides her husband, surviving are three daughters, including Eileen of Sanborn, a son; a sister, Elenora Pfohl of Sanborn and six grandsons.

Norman DeVantier
BERGHOLTZ - Norman A. DeVantier, 55. of 2043 Cayuga Drive Extension died Tuesday (Oct. 25, 1977) in Sister's Hospital, Buffalo, after an apparent heart attack. A lifelong resident of the Town of Wheatfield, he served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and had been employed by the National Grinding Wheel County, North Tonawanda, as a machinist for over 20 years. He was a member, trustee, president, and elder of St. Jame's (sic) Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was an exempt member of the Bergholtz Volunteer Fire County, a member of the Wheatfield American Legion Post 1451, the Wheatfield Republican Club, and was a Wheatfield Republican town committeeman.
Survivors include his wife. Haseley, 81, had cancer for five years.
He was one of the original members of the Niagara County Milk Producers Co-op and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Ridge.
He also was an original member of the Wild Turkey Federation and enjoyed hunting, especially wild turkeys.
Haseley is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Ruth L. McFeaters; a daughter, Linda Rodger of Lockport; a sister, Dorothy Sears of Appleton; and three grandchildren.
Burial was in Budd Cemetery.

NIAGARA FALLS — Niagara Falls - Richard A. Geltz, age 89, of Niagara Falls NY, died Thursday, July 22, 2010 in the Schoellkopf Health Care Center in Niagara Falls. Richard was born October 9, 1920 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Louis and Celeste (Walck) Geltz. He was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School in Niagara Falls and was a lifelong resident. Richard was a Millwright, employed by Wendt's Manufacturing in Niagara Falls, NY, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Richard was an avid bowler, fisherman and model ship builder. He loved baseball, especially the NY Yankees. He married Caroline (Coyle) Geltz on December 12, 1970. Caroline predeceased him on November 6, 2006. He is survived by his children, Rick (Chris) Geltz of Lockport, Mike (Grant) Geltz of Oakland, CA, Sue (Jerry) Lambert of Ransomville, Carla "Cookie" (John) O'Malley of Niagara Falls, Becky (Dave) Sled of Lockport, John (Roxanne) Geltz of Ransomville, and Janice (Jerry) Hoover of Sanborn; two step-daughters, Peggy Coyle of Lewiston and Carol Ann (Leo) Lehner of Cupertino, CA; a brother, Kenneth (Shirley) Geltz of Lewiston, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Kenneth L. Geltz, lifetime area resident, passed away on Monday, February 09, 2015 at Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness. He was 91. He was born in the Town of Niagara on October 11, 1923, a son of the late Louis and Celeste (Walck) Geltz. He attended local schools and then entered the United States Army Air Corps in 1944 and served in Japan during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946.

After the War he worked as an industrial welder at Bell Air Craft and then as a heavy equip- ment operator and Foreman for the Town of Lewiston, retiring in 1986 as a Foreman in the drainage department.

He married Shirley Mae Taylor in 1948 and they remained happily married for 66 years until his passing. He was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley M. Geltz; two sons, Ronald (Patricia) Geltz of Lockport and Robert Geltz of Niagara Falls. He is also survived by two grandsons, Stephen (Jenny) and Matthew Geltz and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Richard (late Caroline) Geltz and two sisters-in-law, Rebecca (late Richard) Taylor and Marion (late William) Mussel.

Councilman Lawrence A. Walck, 66, died Thursday (Jan. 3, 1991) after he was stricken at his home on Upper Mountain Road.
A native of Wheatfield, Walck had been a Cambria town councilman for 12 years and intended to run for re-election next fall.
He had no opponent in his last campaign for re-election in 1987, when he was nominated by the Republican and Conservative parties.
Walck retired June 30 as a compositor at the Tonawanda News after 42 years in the printing industry.
He began his apprenticeship at the Lockport Union-Sun and Journal, then worked at the Niagara Gazette. He joined the Tonawanda News in 1960 and had served as chapel chairman for the International Typographical Union.
He was a 17-year member of the Pekin Fire Company, serving in various offices, including as treasurer.
He also was vice president of the Exempt Firemen of Pekin, local publicity director for the Lutheran Laymen's League and a member of Messiah Lutheran Church of Lewiston.
Walck had coached baseball in Cambria and was a member of the Tonawanda and Niagara County Sportsmen's associations.
Survivors include his wife, the former Jean Becken; two sons, Jerry of Lewiston and Donald; two daughters, Patricia Purdy of Williamsville and Pamela; four brothers, Herbert and Clarence, both of Lyndonville, Earl of Niagara Falls and Delbert of Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters, Margaret Budnack of Newfane and Edith Sherbert of Rochester, and five grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Monday in the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Park, Amherst.

HERBERT A. WALCK Mr. Herbert A. Walck, of the Town of Ridgeway, passed away on Saturday evening, March 1, 2008 at the Medina Memorial Hospital. Mr. Walck was born in Wheatfield, September 7, 1925, a son of the late Andrew and Edna (Wendt) Walck. On March 5, 1949, he married the former Janet Lund and the couple were longtime area residents. Active in the community, he was a member and Trustee of the Lyndonville United Methodist Church, Past President of the Lyndonville Lions Club, a longtime member of the Ridgeway Republican Committee and the Lyndonville Area Foundation. He was very interested in antique automobiles and was a member of the Pierce Arrow Club, Antique Automobile Association of America, Model T and Early V8 Club, and enjoyed attending Cruise Nights and the Hershey Flea Market. He was an avid reader. Twenty six years ago, he donated a kidney to his son, Stewart. He was employed by several Western New York publications including the Medina Journal Register, as a printer, and retired from FMC as a mechanic. He was well- known in the area for his heating and plumbing abilities. Survivors include his wife, Janet; a son, Stewart (Bonnie) Walck of Albion; two daughters, Sandra (Will) Zwink of Albany and Barbara (Michael) Halpern of Wilmington, NC; four grandchildren, Brenden, Alison, Jennifer and Jack; a sister, Margaret (Robert) Budnack of Newfane; two brothers, Earl Walck of Niagara Falls and Delbert (Margaret) Walck of Chesapeake, VA; two sisters-in-law, Jean Walck of Sanborn and Edna Walck of Ridgeway; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Injured Thursday Evening and Is Still Unconscious at Falls Hospital.
SANBORN. Jan. 26.-Edwin Haseley, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Haseley of the Tuscarora road, south of this village, is confined to the Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Niagara Falls. with a fractured skull as the result of a coon hunting episode. The accident happened Thursday night and the youth is still unconscious and reported to be in very serious condition.
Haseley was walking through a grove near his home on Thursday evening with some other boys when they saw what they believed to be a coon up one of the trees. In an attempt to dislodge the animal a heavy limb was broken from the tree which fell, striking Haseley on the head. He was taken to the hospital where he was found to be suffering from a severe fracture.

Edwin Haseley, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Antone (sic) Haseley, Tuscarora road, south (sic) of Sanborn, died at 8:15 o'clock last evening in Mount St. Mary's hospital of a skull fracture. The youth was admitted to the hospital Thursday, victim of an unusual hunting accident.

The youth is survived by his parents; a brother, Harvey; three sisters, Frances, Hilda and Irma. Funeral services will be held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 o'clock in the Walmore Lutheran church. Burial will be in the Walmore Lutheran cemetery.

Haseley Funeral Held
SANBORN, Feb. 2-The funeral of Edwin Haseley, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Antone (sic) Haseley of the Tuscarora Road who died, on Monday evening, at Mount St. Mary's Hospital at Niagara Falls of a skull fracture, which was held from the family home Wednesday at two o'clock and 2:30 at Walmore church was one of the largest ever held in this section. The bearers were: Philip Wittcop, Clarence Wittcop, Hubert Bentel (sic), Norman Pockelwaldt, Albert Pfhul (sic) and E. Deidtreich (sic). The Rev. Edward Granbau (sic) officiated. Burial was at Walmore Lutheran cemetery.

TOWN OF CAMBRIA - Frances A.. (Haseley) Walck, 81, of Lockport Road, died Sunday (Jan. 2, 1994) at her residence, after a long illness.
She was born in the Town of Niagara on Feb. 2, 1912, to Anthony and Hulda (Kroening) Haseley.
She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn. She loved cooking and gardening.
She and her husband, Edwin D. Walck were married June 17, 1934. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Donald Walck and Darrell Walck, both of Lockport; one daughter, Suzanne Milleville of Wheatfield; one brother, Harvey Haseley of Sanborn; one sister, Irma Haseley of the Town of Lewiston; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter' s Lutheran. Church, 6167 Walmore Road,. Sanborn, with the Rev. Ronald Majeroni :officiating. He was a Charter Member of the Niagara County Milk Producer's. Mr. Haseley was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Walmore.
He was predeceased, by his wife of 67 years, Elvira M. [ Fedeler ], who died November 11, 2002.
Surviving are his children, Lois Burkhardt [ late Sam ] , of Lockport, Niagara County, NY; Helen Buerger [ William ] of Sanborn; Roy Haseley [ Eileen ] of Sanborn; Margaret Ewald [ Ralph ] of Ransomville; Howard Haseley [ late Linda ] of Sanborn; Karen Hicks [ Donald ] of Bluff City, TN; Nelson Haseley [ Barbara ], of Sanborn; a sister Irma Haseley, of Sanborn; 23 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was the widow of Max F. Haseley, who passed away in February of 1988. Mrs. Haseley is  survived by a son, David [Joanne] Haseley, two daughters, Diane M. (late Russell) Frerichs and Shirley J. (Howard) Walck, eight grandchildren Cheryl Newton, Shawn Haseley, Daryl (Rachel) Haseley, Kim (Bruce) DeVantier, Kelli (Randy) Kaminski, Kristen (Greg) Schuey, Brent (Andrea) and Bruce (Jennifer) Walck, also sixteen great grandchildren, one great  great granddaughter, also many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edwin and  Harvey Haseley, Frances Walck and Hilda Wendt.

SANBORN - Rudolph J. Kroening, 64, of Fair View Drive, a member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. for 38 years, died in Erie County Medical Center Tuesday (April 7, 1987).
The lifelong resident of Sanborn was the son of the late Phillip and Minnie (Pfohl) Kroening.
He was a self-employed truck driver for 40 years and for the past year drove for the Buffalo Fuel Corp. He was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Laymen's League, and was treasurer and assistant bingo chairman of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. He was a former member of the Sanborn Band and a member of the Niagara County Volunteer Firemen's Association.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Gombert) Kroening; sons, Arthur, Hartley, Darryl and Stephen Kroening of Wheatfield;. daughters, Mrs. John (Eileen) Gieseler and Naomi Kroening of Wheatfield; a brother, Herman Kroening of Sanborn; a sister, Mrs. Donald (Esther) Schneck of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren.

Herman was a self employed agricultural farmer in the Town of Wheatfield, and raised various farm animals. For many years he worked in his family's lumber yard with his father and brother.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Consier of Newfane; a sister, Esther (dec. Donald) Schneck; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Norma E. Kroening on July 27, 2003 and a brother, Rudolph Kroening.

Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME (731-3234), 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Friday from 6-8 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Michael A. Keicher, on Friday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home, following visitation. A private interment will take place in the Wheatfield Cemetery. Poughkeepsie - Esther Minnie Kroening Schneck, 84, passed into eternal rest on Saturday August 8, 2020. Esther was born at home in Sanborn New York on December 11, 1935 to Phillip and Minnie Pfohl Kroening. She attended school at St. Peter's Lutheran School in Walmore and Wheatfield School in Sanborn. She graduated from North Tonawanda High School NY in 1954. She was employed as a Secretary in Niagara Falls in the industrial Relations Department of Electro Metallurgical Company, A Division of Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation. She also kept and maintained a beautiful home for many years where she helped raise her children and entertain family and friends. She was married to Donald V. Schneck on August 18, 1956 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore, New York by Rev, Sherwood Schroer. She also was an active member of that church. Her husband's employment with IBM resulted in their family traveling to and living in many states including Maine, Washington, California and New York. These relocations gave them wonderful opportunities to visit and enjoy many National Parks. Esther attended and was an active member of various churches all her life, the most recent of which was St. John's Lutheran Church for the past 55 years. During that time she served the church and its members in many capacities. These included Adult Education for Congregational retreats, Vacation Bible School teacher, Bethel Bible Series student and teacher, and various other committees. Together with her husband Don they graciously hosted in their home for 15 years a bible study group which they named "For such a time as this". Throughout her life Esther relied on her personal faith in God thru Jesus Christ. This faith gave her strength, hope and an assurance that she would one day be with her Lord and Savior in heaven. Esther loved going on vacations (especially to Maine), family gatherings of all kinds and celebrating holidays together. She enjoyed cake decorating, creating beautiful floral arrangements and everyone enjoyed her wonderful cooking (especially her famous Chocolate Tortes). Esther was the mother of three children Daniel (Fiancé Milagros), David (wife Rosemarie) and Karen (Husband Richard Hutchings - Deceased). She was Grandmother to 10, Jessica (Husband Jason Smith), Jason Hutchings (Wife Kasey), Daniel Fuentes (Wife Ali), Jacob Schneck (Wife Annie), Tiffany Schneck (Fiancé Thomas), Nathan, Stephanie (Husband Daniel Schroder), Bethany, Christina (Fiancé Taylor and Christopher. Esther was Great Grandmother to 10, Jeremiah, Melina, Sara, Sabelle, Addie, Dakota, Noah, Emery, Willow and Wyatt. Esther was devoted to her family and cared for them for many years. From raising three very young children as she traveled across the country to caring for her dying husband during his courageous battle with cancer she gave herself for others. Above everything else Esther loved her family and they loved and adored her in return. She will indeed be greatly missed. Call hours will be from 5 to 7:30pm on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at sweets Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park, NY. A service will be held at the Funeral Home immediately following the viewing. Rev. Clarence A. "Squeaky" Kroening, age 82, of Sanborn, NY, went to be with his Lord on Monday, December 31st, 2007 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, Niagara County, NY. He was born in Town of Wheatfield, on February 26, 1925, to the late Albert E. and Lizzie (Haseley) Kroening. He married his wife, the former Phyllis Walck, on September 7, 1946. Clarence owned the former Sanborn Milling Company, with his partner Erwin Pfohl for 30 years, and later worked for the Niagara County Highway Department as a parts man and truck driver. He served on the Town of Wheatfield Planning Board for 25 years. Clarence also served as treasurer of the former Bergholz Insurance Company. He was a life member of the St. Peters Lutheran Church, where he held various offices. He was very active in the Lutheran Vespers radio program. He was a past secretary of Lutheran Charities where he received the Ralph W. Loew a Award for recognition of service in social ministries of Western New York. For many years he and his wife rented a large truck and filled it with quilts, used clothing, soap and various hats, over 20,000 quilts, 49 tons of material collected from various Lutheran Church's of WNY and delivered them to the Lutheran World Relief Warehouse in Maryland. He was still involved with this project this past year. In 2004 he received a certificate of appreciation from the Thrivent for Lutherans for his dedication service to his Lord through his work with Lutheran World Relief. Clarence was a past president and life member of the Sanborn Lions Club. He was also a 58 year member of the Sanborn Fire Company and its exempts. He was a Charter Member of the TriCommunity Ambulance Service, where he volunteered as a driver, in the late 50's and early 60's. He enjoyed being with his family very much. His hobbies were fishing and traveling. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Phyllis; three daughters, Linda (John) Pluff of New Jersey, Cheryl (James) Kluss of Sanborn, Sandra (Gary) Iulg of New Jersey; five grandchildren, Tanya (Ryan) Nakai, Todd Kluss, Nicole Pluff, Timothy (Nancy) Iulg, Dawn Iulg; two great grandchildren, Lindsay Ryan Nakai and Drew Tyler Nakai; sisters-in-law, Jane Kroening, Ann Kroening; brother-in-law, Arnold (Mae) Behrens; several nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Arnold Kroening, Edgar D. Kroening and Albert A. Kroening. SANBORN, Aug. 1.-Arnold Kroening, 2 1/2 -year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kroening, of Lockport road, died here yesterday, following an illness of a week. WHEATFIELD-Edgar Kroening, who was active in various Niagara County and Wheatfield groups and boards. died Friday July I. 1994) at his residence. He was 61.
Mr. Kroening, of Lockport Road. was a member of the Wheatfield Town Board, Wheatfield Zoning Board of Appeals and the Starpoint School Board. among other activities. Town of Wheatfield Supervisor Terry Kuehn called Mr. Kroening's death "a great loss" to both the town and its residents.
ÒI found it was a pleasure to work with him,Ó Kuehn said. ÒI always found him to be an honest and sincere person. He always put the people first in the town when making his decisions. He'll be a great loss to the people of Wheatfield and the town government. Mr. Kroening was born May 2, 1933, in Wheatfield, the son of Albert and Elizabeth (Haseley) Kroening.
He was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield and a dairy farmer.

The dairy farmer and lifelong Wheatfield resident currently was a member of the town's Zoning Board of Appeals.
He previously served a year as a councilman and one term on the School Board.
He also served as the town's dog warden, a member of the board of directors for the Niagara County Milk Cooperative, a Republican town committeeman, a committeeman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation System for the county and town, and an elder and trustee at St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

He was born February 6, 1918, in the Town of Niagara the son of Albert and Christine [ Hoffmeister ] De Vantier, where he attended local schools. Always living on a farm, Elmer began his farming career at an early age, assisting with the farm chores as a child.
He moved to the town of Cambria, in 1944, where he continued to operate his own farm, until his health prevented him from doing so. He was a longtime member of the St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Pekin, Niagara County, NY.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Ruth E. Mueller; two sons, Richard De Vantier; Robert and wife Susan De Vantier, all of Sanborn, NY; Susan Thompson; Sharon and husband Kenneth Walker, of Sanborn, NY; one sister Lydia and husband Norman Mueller, of the Town of Niagara, Niagara County, NY; six grandchildren, Michelle Thompson; Jayme Thompson; Dan Walker; Andrew Walker; Rebecca Drabczyk and Christina De Vantier.

He is survived by his wife, Verone (Pfohl) Haseley of Sanborn; a son Paul A Haseley of Sanborn; a nephew, Robert Haseley and a niece Judy Haseley, all of Sanborn.
Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church Walmore, on Tuesday at 2 P.M. with the Rev. Harold L. Baum officiating.
Burial will be in St Peters Lutheran Cemetery.

SANBORN-Philip (Pete) W. Haseley, 47, of 5888 Walmore Road, died Friday (Feb. 24, 1967) in Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital after a four-day illness.
He was born in the Town of Lewiston on May 8, 1919, the son of Philip F. Haseley and Anna DeVantier Haseley. He had lived all his life at the Walmore Road address where he operated a farm.
Mr. Haseley was a life member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore, and was a member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. band for many years.
Survivors include his widow, the former Carol Bohl; a son, Robert, and a daughter, Judy, both at home; a brother, Mervin P. Haseley of Sanborn; a nephew, Paul Haseley, Sanborn, and several aunts and uncles.
Friends may call at the Pike and Jones Funeral Home Inc. from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Sunday and Monday, and from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church where funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Edna Rose Agatha DeVantier Walck, age 98 of Wheatfield, NY, was called peacefully to her heavenly home, on August 25, 2021. Born in the Town of Niagara, NY on October 17, 1922; daughter of the late Adolph and Hilda (Beutel) DeVantier. A life long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Sanborn, where she was currently the oldest member. Edna was active with St. Peter's Senior Citizens, the Cradle Roll, and quilter's group. She was also active with Daus House, in Bergholz as a curator for visitors. Edna and her late husband, Hugo C. Walck, were united in marriage on June 7, 1947. He passed on October 3, 1994. They maintained a home in Florida for many years, and welcomed family and friends to stay there. Hugo and Edna traveled extensively in Europe, the Pacific Islands, Australia, and caravanned cross country, into the Canadian Rockies, up to Alaska. Edna and her sister Lillian, enjoyed traveling to the Holy Land. She enjoyed baseball, and was a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Atlanta Braves. Edna was an accomplished horse back rider, and naturally musically gifted in playing the piano and organ. Earlier in life, Edna was employed at Moore Business Forms in the 1950's, Biagios Quality Inn located in Niagara Falls, as the head housekeeper, and then worked at Hotel Niagara when John's Restaurant took it over. Survivors include her loving daughters, Brenda and Linda, and their husbands, Joel Jaffe and Michael Rozyczko; a grandson, Michael Rozyczko; special niece, Judy Baribeau; special nephews, Grant, Glenn and Mark DuBois; many other nieces and nephews; and a great nephew, Harley. Edna was also preceded in death by her brother, Bert DeVantier; and sister, Lillian DuBois.Friends are invited to join with her family, for services to be held on Wednesday, September 1, at 2:00 p.m. in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 6168 Walmore Road, Sanborn, NY 14132, with the Rev. Mrs. Beutel was born Mabel DeVantier in the Town of Niagara. She attended area schools and was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
A homemaker, Mrs. Beutel was an excellent baker. Her family said they will especially remember her pies.

Phyllis Rose Kroening, child of God, was called home to be with our Lord on Monday, March 7, 2016, at her home under the care of her family and Niagara Hospice.


She was born in the Town of Wheatfield, on April 16, 1925, the daughter of the late Philip C. and Rose (DeVantier) Walck.
She attended St. Peter's Lutheran School and LaSalle High School. After high school she held various jobs including housekeeping, working at Moore Business Forms and at Bell Aircraft during WW II, as a "Rosie the Riveter", assembling parts for planes.


Phyllis was united in marriage to Clarence A. Kroening on September 7, 1946, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sanborn. They were married 61 years when Clarence was called home on December 31, 2007.


Phyllis was a devoted homemaker. She loved taking care of and spending time with her family - children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She and Clarence traveled widely; they visited many other countries and nearly all states in the U.S. In her later years, Phyllis enjoyed many visits with her family in New Jersey and Tennessee and with her sister in Florida. She looked forward to Friday night dinners with her sisters-in-law and Sunday lunches with friends after church.
A lifelong and faithful member of St. Peter's, she served on the Altar Guild, participated in the Women's Bible Study Group, and was a very active member of the Quilters Group. She and Clarence delivered quilts for many years to the Lutheran World Relief Warehouse in Maryland for those in need worldwide.


Phyllis is survived by three daughters, Linda (John) Pluff of Crossville, TN, Cheryl (James) Kluss of Sanborn, NY and Sandra (Gerald) Iulg of Bridgeton, NJ, five grandchildren Tanya (Ryan) Nakai, Todd Kluss, Tim (Nancy) Iulg, Nicole Pluff, and Dawn (Jeff) Hiatt and five great-grandchildren Lindsay Nakai, Drew Nakai, Annabelle Iulg, Timothy Iulg, Jr., and Magnolia Hiatt, two sisters-in-law Jane (late Edgar) Kroening and Ann (late Albert) Kroening and many nieces and nephews.
She was the the sister of the late Mae (late Arnold) Behrens.


Her family will be present on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY.

Hobbies and interests included hunting, fishing, and the quality time spent with his family at home and camp.

LEWISTON — Elverna G. Catlin, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, NY.

She was born in the Town of Niagara, on February 5, 1923, the daughter of the late Hubert and Esther (DeVantier) Haseley.

Elverna was a sales associate with the Sample Dress Shop in the Mil-Pine Plaza for 22 years, and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Elverna got her greatest joy spending time with the family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.

She was the wife of the late Howard W. Catlin, who died in May of 2002.

Elverna is survived by her beloved son, Gary W. (Carol) Catlin of Sanborn, NY; her dearest grandchildren, Cheryl (Robert) Steingasser, Lori Milleville and David (Anna) Catlin; and her much loved great-granddaughters, Kimberly Milleville and Natalie Catlin; one sister, Doris (William) Davis; a sister-in-law, Alice Haseley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Raymond Haseley, Milton (late Doris) Haseley, Reuben (late Lois) Haseley and Glenn Haseley.

He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, in Niagara Falls, where he was an Elder and council member for many years. He was also a member of Teamsters Local 449. Ray enjoyed to traveling, taking his wife and his 13 children, on many camping trips. His home was always open to his family and friends, at any time. The friendships were plentiful and the celebrations were always happening at his home.
His greatest joy in recent years were his grandchildren and great grandchildren, having them over and going to share the many sporting school experiences.

TOWN OF NIAGARA- Milton H. (Mike) Haseley, 51, of 10315 Lockport Road, was pronounced dead on arrival at Mount Saint Mary's Hospital Friday (Sept. 9, 1977) after being stricken with an apparent heart attack at his home.
He was a life-long resident of the Town of Niagara where he had attended local schools.
He was the president of the Haseley Trucking Co. Inc., which he had operated since the early 1940s. He was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Operating Engineers Local 463, the Niagara County Truck Owners Association, the Judges and Police Association of Niagara County and he was an honorary member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Kelly Haseley, one son, Mark Haseley, one daughter, Marilyn Haseley; his mother, Mrs. Esther Haseley; two brothers, Raymond, and Reuben; two sisters, Mrs. Howard (Elverna) Catlin and Mrs. William (Doris) Davis. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul F. Wittenberg officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. TOWN OF NIAGARA - Reuben E, Haseley, 64, of Lockport Road, , died Monday (Oct. 12, 1992) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Town of Lewiston, of a heart attack.
Born in the Town of Niagara to Hubert and Esther (DeVantier) Haseley, he was a lifelong resident of the town, where he operated his father's family farm. He also worked in the family trucking business.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Brethren Church in North Tonawanda where he was an elder. Haseley loved hunting, gardening and family life.

Dennis was a life long member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz, a graduate of Niagara Falls High School, class of 1951, and served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He was employed at General Abrasives as an Electrician for approximately 42 years, until his retirement. Dennis was one of the better fastpitch softball pitchers in the area, and played competitively into his 50's. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, she was employed at Niagara-Wheatfield High School as a cafeteria worker for 18 years.
A lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergholz, she was a member of the Women of the Church.
Mrs. DeVantier was also a member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens, the Wheatfield Garden Club and the Women's Auxiliary of Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion.
Her husband of 53 years, Martin J., died in 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Dale and David, both of Niagara Falls; a brother, Allan DeVantier of Wheatfield; and three grandchildren.

NIAGARA FALLS — Edward R. DeVantier went to be with our Lord, surrounded by his family on March 22, 2012 in the ICU Unit at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. Edward was born on December 30, 1924, the son of Edward and Thekla (Milleville) DeVantier.

He attended St. James Lutheran School and graduated from LaSalle Senior High School. Mr. DeVantier served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as an Electricians Mate. He was stationed in the South Pacific and one of the highlights after his retirement was a return trip to Banika in the Solomon Islands where he was stationed. He married Elaine Farr DeVantier on October 16, 1948. Mr. DeVantier was employed by the E.I. DuPont Company for 36 years as a instrument mechanic. He retired in 1985 and was a member of the DuPont 25-year club.

He was a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he served as a trustee and elder. He was a Charter Member, Past Commander and Life Member of the Wheatfield American Legion Post 1451 and was also a life member of the VFW. Following retirement, he enjoyed golf, travel and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a volunteer at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Home Delivered Meals for Niagara County. He was a member of the Retired Mens Service Club.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Edward is survived by brothers, Roger (Doris) of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Loren (Norma) of Lewiston. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Pastor Vernon DeVantier (Harriet) of Blissfield, MI. Edward is survived by children, Robert (Debra) of Gates, NY, Edward (Victoria) of Lewiston, and Brian (Judy) of North Tonawanda. He is also survived by grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer, Robert Jr., Nicole, Trevor and Connor; great-grandchildren, Ronan, Gideon, Allison, Oren and Austin.

BLISSFIELD — Blissfield - Vernon DeVantier, 78, of Blissfield went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at his home. Vernon was born on March 2, 1932 to Edward and Thekla DeVantier in Bergholtz, New York. On July 2, 1955 in Lewiston, New York, he married Harriet Landres. At the age of 9, Vernon heard a missionary speak and from that moment on he decided that he wanted to be a Pastor. He received his bachelor's degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio in 1954 and his Masters in Divinity from the Evangelical Theological Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio in 1958. His first call was to St. Mark's and Bethlehem Lutheran Churches in Defiance, Ohio. In 1965, he was called to serve at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blissfield, where he ministered for 23 years. Before retiring, he also served at Zion Lutheran Church in Petersburg, Michigan and St. Michael Lutheran Church in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, where he was a member and sang in the choir. In addition to serving the Lord, Vernon also gave back to the community. He was a past member of the Blissfield Rotary. He also served as a board member of the Bliss Liewert Senior Center, and of the Lenawee Parks and Recreation Board. Because of his love and concern for the unborn, one of his greatest joys was serving for 30 years on the Living Water Works, Crisis Pregnancy Center Board in Adrian, Michigan. Vernon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Harriet DeVantier of Blissfield; one son, James (Michelle) DeVantier of Blissfield; three daughters, Louise (Gregory) Solak of St. Joseph, Michigan, Deborah (David) Kimmelman of Riga and Barbara (Ronald) Schmidt of Blissfield; eleven grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Solak, Erica, Lindsay and David DeVantier, Kelly, James and Katie Kimmelman and Amy, Eric and Anna Schmidt; three brothers, Edward (Elaine) DeVantier, Roger (Doris) DeVantier and Loren (Norma) DeVantier; and many other wonderful relatives. Loren Wallace DeVantier, age 81, of Niagara Falls, was called home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2015 at Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Born in the Town of Wheatfield on April 13, 1934, he was the son of the late Edward and Thekla (Milleville) DeVantier Sr. Loren was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, and was employed as a carpenter superintendent with Laur & Mack Contracting Company for over 40 years, until his retirement. Loren was a life long member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he formerly served as a trustee and president. Loren was an exempt member of Lewiston No. 2 Fire Company, of which he was an active member for 51 years, and served as a past chief and EMT. He was also a long time member of the Town of Lewiston Fire Prevention Board. Loren enjoyed fishing, traveling with his wife, but his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and grandchildren.

June L. Ferchen (DeVantier), age 84, of Wheatfield, was called to her heavenly home on February 7, 2010, surrounded by her loving family, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on November 22, 1925 to the late Bernard and Louise (Klute) DeVantier. June attended St. James Lutheran School and graduated from LaSalle High School. She was employed with the Niagara County Water District for 20 years and at Jenss Department Store. June was a lifelong member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church in Bergholz and was active in the Women Of The Church. She was a charter member of the American Legion, Wheatfield Post 1451 Auxiliary, and an active member of the Town of Wheatfield Republican Club for many years.Beloved wife of the late Fremont C. Ferchen, who was called to his heavenly home on January 25, 2009. They were married 62 years. Survivors include two daughters, Colleen (Richard) Forsey and Deborah (Michael) Ciccone, both of Rochester; grandchildren, Jennifer Forsey and Christine Parry, both of Rochester and Stephanie (Jacob) Martin of Pownal, ME; brother, Ralph (Joan) DeVantier of Youngstown and a sister, Elaine DeVantier of Temecula, CA. RALPH RUSSELL DEVANTIER

Of Youngstown entered his heavenly home on February 9, 2023 with his family by his side.  He was born to Barney and Louise (Klute) DeVantier in Niagara Falls, NY on July 22, 1933 and attended St. James Lutheran School and LaSalle High School.
He completed his Carpenter’s Apprenticeship in 1958 and was very proud to be a Carpenter Foreman on the building of the Niagara Power Project.
He established Ralph R. DeVantier Building Company in 1951.
Ralph served two years in the US Army in Germany.
He was a charter member of the Town of Wheatfield Lions Club, serving as both President and Secretary. He also received the highest honor for a Lion, the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He  served as the Town of Wheatfield Building Inspector, Past-President of ARC (now Intandem), and various positions at both St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholtz and Messiah Lutheran Church in Lewiston.
Ralph’s true passion was his family retreat and hunting camp in Canisteo. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.
He and Joan really enjoyed traveling; especially trips to Germany during Oberammergau, the Passion Play of Christ.
Ralph was the husband of 42 years to  the late Gladys (Walck), who predeceased him and he was blessed to marry Joan (Small) in 2000.  In addition to his wife,  he is survived by his children Duane (Debbie) DeVantier, Kent (Cindy) DeVantier, Sandy Retzlaff, Bruce (Kim) DeVantier and Amy (Jamie) Bessel, Ann (Jordan) Taylor, Cindy (Paul) Dollahite and Steven (Sybille Schubert) Small,  grandchildren Amanda (Erik) Holmstrom, Justin (Ashley Bower) DeVantier , Jacob (Alexa) DeVantier, Courtney Retzlaff, Devyn DeVantier (Keith Hingle), David (Samantha Epps) DeVantier, Danielle DeVantier, Lily Bessel, Claire Dollahite and James Dollahite and 4 great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Henry, Lily and Erik, a sister Elaine DeVantier and sister-in-law Helen DeVantier.
He was the brother of the late June (Fremont) Ferchen and the  Rev. Glenn DeVantier.
His family will be present on Monday from 3-8 PM at RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 915 Oneida Street, Lewiston, NY, with the  Rev. Timothy Anas officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be  made in his name to Messiah Lutheran Church or the Town of Wheatfield Lions Club.

Lad, 5, Meets Death In Front of Home
Run down by an automobile on the Niagara Falls boulevard near the Witmer road, town of Wheatfield, shortly after 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon Eugene Donald Stenzel, five years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stenzel, in front of whose residence the accident occurred, died in the DeGraff Memorial hospital half an
hour later. Dr. John Kinzly, who attended the child, found that he sustained a fractured skull, a broken leg and numerous bruises and contusions.
Driver Released
Leo J. Roy of 1925 Tenth street, Niagara Falls, driver of the machine, was released after making a statement to Coroner J. E. Helwig and the state troopers. Dr. Helwig will continue the investigation of the accident today. Roy said he was on his way to
the Falls and did not see the boy until he dashed into the highway, a short distance away. The Stenzels have their mail box on that side of the boulevard opposite their home. It is thought the child was on his way to the box to get the mail and was oblivious of the approaching machine. Funeral to be Wednesday. Besides his parents a brother, Gordon, survives. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence and at 2:30 o'clock from the St. James church in Bergholz. The Rev. Otto Bruss will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery at St. Johnsburg.

Helen L. Schimschack, 75, of Bergholz, who was a cook in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, for many years, died Tuesday (May 9, 2000) under Hospice care in her sister's Sanborn home after a long illness.
Born in Lewiston, the former Helen Kroening was a resident of Bergholz for the past 50 years. She was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, Holy Ghost Ladies Aide, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Wheatfield Senior Citizens.
In addition, she had been an active member of the Bergholz Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, serving as an active trustee until recently.
She enjoyed crafts, needlework and flowers.
Her husband, Wilbert, died in 1995.
She is survived by a brother, Clyde Kroening, and a sister, JoAnn Pfohl, both of Sanborn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, at Niagara Road and Luther Street in Bergholz

Clyde R. Kroening 74, of Sanborn, NY, died Saturday February 5, 2005, in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness.
He was a life long resident of the Town of Lewiston, born on April 3, 1930, the son of William and Ella [ DeVantier ] Kroening, where he attended local schools. He had operated the family dairy farm for most of his life, he also was a heavy equipment operator and would work for area contractors.
He was a member of the Agriculture Stabilization Committee of Niagara County for several years. Clyde was an exempt member of the Sanborn Fire Company and had also served as a Town Constable for the Town of Lewiston for many years.
He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the former Sanborn Bowling League. Clyde was an avid golfer, and would winter in Florida, during which time he would work at the Disney World Golf Pro Shop, and as a Tee Off starter for the course.
He was predeceased by his first wife Maurine Bruss Kroening who died in 1986.
Surviving is his wife of 15 years, Linda G. [ Peck ] Kroening; a daughter, Linda Bonner, of Niagara Falls, Ont.; a son Russell Kroening, of Belham, TX; a sister, JoAnn [ Delbert ] Pfohl, of Sanborn; a nephew, Mark Pfohl. He was the brother of the late Helen Schimschack.
The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, SANBORN, 5893 Hoover Road, from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM, Wednesday. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 AM, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6168 Walmore Road, with the Rev. Bruce R. Gamache, officiating. Otto Bruss, at St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz. Audrey was united in marriage to Norman A. Walck on October 1, 1949. She attended local schools and was a 1945 graduate of LaSalle High School. Audrey was employed by Moore Business Forms, Carborundum Company, Hooker Chemical Company, and New York Power Authority. She was an active member at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn, serving as Sunday School teacher, working with the young people and served on the church council as secretary and president. As chairperson of St. Peter's Archive Committee, she assisted in translating the church's records from the original German script, into English. Mrs. Walck was an accomplished porcelain artist, an officer in the Towpath China Painters Club, and World Organization of China Painters. Pictures of a number of her paintings were published in the organization's publication. Mrs. Walck was a member in the Niagara Women's Club, member of the German Historical Society, Sanborn Area Historical Society, and charter member of Artpark & Company. Audrey's greatest joy was the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Robert (Judith) Walck; daughter, Cheryl (Edward III) Hayes; grandchildren, Noelle and Nathan Urbach, Laura Hayes; sister, Marilyn Mueller; sisters and brothers in law, and several nieces and nephews. Services for Milton H. Mueller of Sanborn, an industrial arts teacher, were held Wednesday in St. James Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road, Bergholz. Burial was in St. James Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Wheatfield.
Mr. Mueller died Saturday (March 6, 2004) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after suffering a heart attack at home. He was 71.
He was born in Niagara Falls and attended St. James Lutheran School. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1950 and from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1954.
As a college student in the early 1950s, Mr. Mueller worked on the construction of the Niagara Power Project. He served with the Army from 1954 to 1956.
Mr. Mueller began his teaching career in 1956 in the Lewiston-Porter Central School District. In 1959 he transferred to Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District, where he taught for 31 years before retiring.
He was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church, where he was an elder. Mr. Mueller and his wife, Fern, traveled to Russia and China as missionaries, distributing Bibles. He was the television cameraman for the Niagara Ministries television program "Digging In," which is shown throughout the United States and Canada.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Fern S. Channell; two sons, Jeffery of Fargo, ND, and Douglas of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Deborah Bennion of Macomb, Mich.; a brother, Myron of North Tonawanda; two sisters, Audry Walck of Sanborn and Marilyn Mueller of New Orleans; and 10 grandchildren

Myron L. Mueller, age 73, of Wheatfield, was called to his heavenly home to be with our Lord and Savior, on Monday, April 6, 2009 at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY on January 1, 1936 to the late Edward and Edna (DeVantier) Mueller. He was a lifelong member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he held various positions over the years and enjoyed singing in the choir. Myron served in the National Guard and retired as a carpenter superintendent with Scrufari Construction Company, was a 50 year member of the Buffalo Carpenters Union and was project manager, working on the Wheatfield recreation and water department buildings and was very proud of his accomplishments. Myron enjoyed bowling at the Manor II Lanes on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons, played bingo, traveled many places along the coast - Maine to the Carolina's, visiting lighthouses, faithfully kept a weather journal and had an A-frame at Rushford Lake, where his family vacationed during the summer months. Hobbies included woodworking, gardening, painting, puzzles, fishing and golfing. Myron especially enjoyed being with his family and watching his grandchildren play baseball, and would have an Easter Egg hunt at his house for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with pizza for lunch.Survivors include his beloved wife, Marlene (Goater) Mueller. There were united in marriage on June 14, 1958; four children, Kyle (Larry) Hall, Karen (Gary) Pfohl, Kim (Bill) Szelazkiewicz and Mike (Cindy) Mueller; grandchildren, Darryl and Michelle Hall, Kelly and Dave Patterson, Billy Szelazkiewicz, Mikie Szelazkiewicz, Alex Mueller, Michael Mueller and Jillian Mueller; great-grandchildren, Erica, Andrew and Kyle V.
