Edward R. DeVantier
TOWN OF WHEATFIELD - Edward R. DeVantier Sr., 83, of 2116 Cayuga Drive Ext., died Monday (Jan. 2, 1978) in Fairchild Manor Nursing Home.
Born in the Town of Wheatfield, where he resided most of his life, he was formerly of Michigan Avenue, Niagara Falls, and was employed as an office worker at Carborundum for 43 years before retiring in 1956. He was a member of the Carborundum Retirement Club, the Carborundum Alumni Association, and St. James Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Thekla (Milleville) DeVantier; four sons. Edward Jr. of Niagara Falls. Roger of Cherry Hill, N.J., the Rev. Vernon DeVantier of Blissfield. Mich., and Loren of Lewiston; two brothers. Harold and Alfred, both of Sanborn; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Edna) Mueller of Niagara Falls. and Mrs. Irma Blank of Sanborn, and several grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholtz, with the Rev. John Crilley officiating. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Lane Funeral Home inc., 8622 Buffalo Ave.. from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or to the Lutheran Vespers, the family said.

NIAGARA FALLS — Edward R. DeVantier went to be with our Lord, surrounded by his family on March 22, 2012 in the ICU Unit at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. Edward was born on December 30, 1924, the son of Edward and Thekla (Milleville) DeVantier.

He attended St. James Lutheran School and graduated from LaSalle Senior High School. Mr. DeVantier served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as an Electricians Mate. He was stationed in the South Pacific and one of the highlights after his retirement was a return trip to Banika in the Solomon Islands where he was stationed. He married Elaine Farr DeVantier on October 16, 1948. Mr. DeVantier was employed by the E.I. DuPont Company for 36 years as a instrument mechanic. He retired in 1985 and was a member of the DuPont 25-year club.

He was a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he served as a trustee and elder. He was a Charter Member, Past Commander and Life Member of the Wheatfield American Legion Post 1451 and was also a life member of the VFW. Following retirement, he enjoyed golf, travel and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a volunteer at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Home Delivered Meals for Niagara County. He was a member of the Retired Mens Service Club.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Edward is survived by brothers, Roger (Doris) of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Loren (Norma) of Lewiston. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Pastor Vernon DeVantier (Harriet) of Blissfield, MI. Edward is survived by children, Robert (Debra) of Gates, NY, Edward (Victoria) of Lewiston, and Brian (Judy) of North Tonawanda. He is also survived by grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer, Robert Jr., Nicole, Trevor and Connor; great-grandchildren, Ronan, Gideon, Allison, Oren and Austin.

Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls, NY 14304 on Saturday from 1-3 and 6-8 PM. Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 3 PM at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church 2437 Niagara Road, Bergholz NY 14304. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. BLISSFIELD — Blissfield - Vernon DeVantier, 78, of Blissfield went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at his home. Vernon was born on March 2, 1932 to Edward and Thekla DeVantier in Bergholtz, New York. On July 2, 1955 in Lewiston, New York, he married Harriet Landres. At the age of 9, Vernon heard a missionary speak and from that moment on he decided that he wanted to be a Pastor. He received his bachelor's degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio in 1954 and his Masters in Divinity from the Evangelical Theological Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio in 1958. His first call was to St. Mark's and Bethlehem Lutheran Churches in Defiance, Ohio. In 1965, he was called to serve at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blissfield, where he ministered for 23 years. Before retiring, he also served at Zion Lutheran Church in Petersburg, Michigan and St. Michael Lutheran Church in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, where he was a member and sang in the choir. In addition to serving the Lord, Vernon also gave back to the community. He was a past member of the Blissfield Rotary. He also served as a board member of the Bliss Liewert Senior Center, and of the Lenawee Parks and Recreation Board. Because of his love and concern for the unborn, one of his greatest joys was serving for 30 years on the Living Water Works, Crisis Pregnancy Center Board in Adrian, Michigan. Vernon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Harriet DeVantier of Blissfield; one son, James (Michelle) DeVantier of Blissfield; three daughters, Louise (Gregory) Solak of St. Joseph, Michigan, Deborah (David) Kimmelman of Riga and Barbara (Ronald) Schmidt of Blissfield; eleven grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Solak, Erica, Lindsay and David DeVantier, Kelly, James and Katie Kimmelman and Amy, Eric and Anna Schmidt; three brothers, Edward (Elaine) DeVantier, Roger (Doris) DeVantier and Loren (Norma) DeVantier; and many other wonderful relatives. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Thekla. Funeral services for Vernon will be held on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 5790 W. Temperance Rd., Ottawa Lake, Michigan, 49267, with Pastor Mark D. Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield. Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 6, 2010 from 1 to 4 PM and 5 to 9 PM at the Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel in Blissfield. Loren Wallace DeVantier, age 81, of Niagara Falls, was called home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2015 at Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Born in the Town of Wheatfield on April 13, 1934, he was the son of the late Edward and Thekla (Milleville) DeVantier Sr. Loren was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, and was employed as a carpenter superintendent with Laur & Mack Contracting Company for over 40 years, until his retirement. Loren was a life long member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he formerly served as a trustee and president. Loren was an exempt member of Lewiston No. 2 Fire Company, of which he was an active member for 51 years, and served as a past chief and EMT. He was also a long time member of the Town of Lewiston Fire Prevention Board. Loren enjoyed fishing, traveling with his wife, but his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors included his loving wife that he married on August 21, 1954, Norma (Williamson) DeVantier; four children, Darrell (Margaret) DeVantier of Albuquerque, NM, Beth (late Eric) Ruff of Cincinnati, OH, Brenda Wagner and Neil (Cindy) DeVantier, both of Sanborn; 13 grandchildren, Michelle (Joel) Sexton, Jeanette (Aaron) Alexander, Eric Ruff, Justin DeVantier, Brian Ruff, Larissa Wagner, Jenna Ruff, Rhianna Wagner, Kadie Ruff, Zachary DeVantier, Lester Wagner, Ryan DeVantier and Megan DeVantier; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger (Doris) DeVantier of Cherry Hill, NJ; and two sisters-in-law, Elaine and Harriet DeVantier. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward DeVantier Jr. and Rev. Vernon DeVantier.

Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME (731-3234), 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Jeff Milsten, on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in St. James Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Rohr Street in Bergholz. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Mark R. DeVantier, age 57 and a resident of Richardson, TX, for 21 years, passed away February 27, 2015. He was born November 12, 1957, in Camden, NJ, to Roger Donald DeVantier and Doris Jane (Wittkopp) DeVantier and was a contract negotiator in the telecommunications industry. Mark was a very active member of First United Methodist Church of Plano, where he served on the Staff Parish Relations committee, the finance committee and was a trustee. In his spare time, he loved spending time at the beach, diving, swimming and taking long walks. One of the family’s annual traditions was a vacation at the South Jersey Shore with his parents, wife, daughters, siblings and many nieces and nephews, all who looked forward to this trip. While at home he loved being outdoors, working on projects or just enjoying the beauty of nature. Mark enjoyed all sports, especially golfing and fishing and was an obnoxious Philadelphia Eagles fan. He dearly loved his church, his Sunday school family and all of his family. Mark is survived by his wife: Vicki DeVantier of Richardson, TX; two daughters: Rachel DeVantier of Dallas, TX, and Audra DeVantier of Richardson, TX; two brothers: Wayne DeVantier of Chesapeake, VA, and Keith DeVantier of Westchester, PA; parents: Roger and Doris DeVantier of Cherry Hill, NJ; mother-in-law: Janell Alexander of Rockwall, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister: Joyce White. Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at First United Methodist Church of Plano, 3160 E. Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, TX, 75074, with Pastor Paul Gould officiating. A Night of Remembrance will be held Tuesday evening at the church from 6:00 to 8:00pm. WHITE Joyce D. White, 53, passed away February 10, 2015 in Jacksonville, FL. She was born August 5, 1961 in Camden, NJ. Joyce graduated from University of Delaware in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She had over 20 years of nursing experience and last worked at Brooks Rehabilitation. She loved quilting, gardening, and bird watching. Joyce was always fun loving with family and friends, but humbly reserved.
