HOFFMEISTER FUNERAL
Loss of Witmer Road Resident Mourned by Many Relatives.
BERGHOLTZ, Jan. 16,-The funeral services for Frederick Hoffmeister, 73 years old, who died suddenly of heart disease at his home on the Witmer road last Sunday morning while getting ready to go to church, was held Tuesday afternoon from the home at 2 o'clock and a half hour later in the St. James church. Interment was in St. James cemetery, south of this village. He is survived by three sons, William, at home, Fred, of New York City. and John, of Buffalo; five daughters. Mrs. Alma Nablo and Mrs. Elizabeth Wrege, of North Tonawanda, Mrs. Christine De Vantier, of Walmore, Mrs. Ella Schroeder, of St. Johnsburg, and Mrs. Magdalena Jagow, south of this village; 25 grandchildren, three brothers and five sisters.

William J. Hoffmeister, 83, died Saturday (May 6, 1967) in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo, after a lengthy illness.
He was a veteran of World War I.

Born in North Tonawanda, he was a vice president of Marine Midland Bank and retired in 1972 as the manager of the First Trust office in the City of Tonawanda. He also had been manager of the State Trust and Payne Avenue branches of Marine Midland Bank.
He was a graduate of Rutgers University School of Banking and was active in the Tonawanda Chamber of Commerce.
Hoffmeister was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church of North Tonawanda all of his life and served as treasurer of the church. He also was active in the Boys Club and Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former Alice Behm; a daughter, Susan Zawodniak of Bedford, N.H.; two sons, Paul of South Bend., Ind., and Mark of Arlington Heights, ILl.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1135 Oliver St., North Tonawanda. Burial will be in St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Wheatfield.

WHEATFIELD - World War I veteran John N. Mueller of Cayuga Drive Extension died Thursday (Oct. 16, 1986) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medica Center. He was 91. Mueller was born in the Village of LaSalle before il was annexed to the city, and was a long time resident of Wheatfield. During World War I he served in the 77th Division of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe for one year at the Meuse-Argonne Forest. Mueller was a group service operator at the Carborundum Co. for 35 years before retiring in 1960. He was a member of the Carborudum Alumni Association, St. James Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 1451 and the Historical Society of the Town of Wheatfield. Walter J. Jagow, 37. died Sunday evening at the Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Jagow was a lifelong resident of the Town of Wheatfield. He is survived by his widow, Hilda, nee Walck, a daughter, Sharon Louise and a son, Charles Frederick. He is also survived by his father, Fred, four sisters, Mrs. Hugo Gade of La Porte, In.; Mrs. Melvin Williams of Sanborn, the Misses Maralyn and Elfrieda Jagow of Bergholz, five brothers, Howard of St. Johnsburg, Franklin and Erwin of Bergholz, Victor of Niagara Falls, and Frederick of Ft. Wayne, In. Funeral services will be held from the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St., Wednesday at 2 P.M. and at the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz, at 2:30. Evelyn Henrietta Gade, 93, of Springfield, IL, died Sunday April 30, 2006 at the Heritage Manor. She was born May 24, 1912 in Martinsville, NY, the daughter of Fred and Magdalena Hoffmeister Jagow. She married Hugo Gade in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz, NY June 28,1931. He preceded her in death in 1980
She taught kindergarten in Lutheran schools in LaPorte, IN and Baltimore, MD and later became a division manager for World Book Company in the Baltimore area. She was known for her warmth and hospitality and frequently shared bounty from her beautiful garden. She adapted cheerfully to changes in her life with moves to Pittsburgh, PA, LaPorte, IN and Baltimore, MD where her husband taught in Lutheran schools. They moved to Bel Air, MD in retirement and were active at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and fulfilled a dream of an organic garden. She particularly enjoyed growing strawberries and making jam to share with her many friends. Evelyn moved to Springfield, IL to be near her eldest daughter in 1996 and joined in fellowship at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was active in the quilting group and senior Bible class.

Elizabeth "Betty" J. Williams of Lockport, NY was called to be home with the Lord on May 23, 2015. She was 99 years old. Born on October 3, 1915 in the Town of Wheatfield, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Magdelena Hoffmeister Jagow. Elizabeth was a retired Elementary School Teacher and taught at St. Andrews, Pekin, Trinity Lutheran and St. Peter, North Ridge. She loved to teach children to read and sing. She was Co-owner and Marketer of Williams' Acres Dairy & "Own-Grown" Produce Farm in Ransomville. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, North Ridge, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was also a friend of Concordia Lutheran Church. Elizabeth was a Literacy Volunteer and enjoyed wood carving, gardening, sewing, fishing, and hunting, and loved to cook and bake. Her greatest passion was Bible Study, prayer, and sharing her Christian Faith. In 1977, Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Melvin C. Williams. She was also predeceased by her son Thomas (Lorena) Williams, and two granddaughters, Brenda Brawn (Tom) Cervi and Lauries Volls (Mike) Fournier. She is survived by her children, Douglas (Nancy) Williams, Patricia (Gary) Johnston, Nancy (Richard) Reak, Timothy (Donna) Williams and Elizabeth "Betsy" (Carl) Bodie; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; her brother, Victor (Betty) Jagow and sister, Marilyn (Robert) Winter and many nieces and nephews. Franklin F. Jagow, 49, of 6635 Hunt St., Bergholtz, died Sunday (Feb. 20, 1966) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital shortly after suffering a heart attack at home.
He was first vice president of the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church; first commander of the Wheatfield Post of the American Legion; a member of the Bergholtz Fire Co. and a director of the Cooperative Fire 1nsurance Co. of Bergholtz.
Mr. Jagow was employed by the Carborundum Co. for 30 years as a small wheel molder.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Norma Mielke Jagow; three sons, Wayne Jagow, a student at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis; Daniel Jagow and Robert Jagow, both of Bcrgholtz; his father, Frederick Jagow, Bergholtz; four sisters, Mrs. Hugo (Evelyn) Gade. Baltimore; Mrs. Melvin (Elizabeth) Williams, Wilson; Miss Elfrieda Jagow, this city; and Mrs. Milton (Marilyn) Warblow, North Tonawanda.
Four brothers surviving are Howard Jagow and Irwin Jagow, both of the Town of Wheatfield; Victor Jagow, of Maryland; and Rev. Frederick Jagow, Warren, Mich. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St., North Tonawanda, until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Two Brothers, Unable to Swim, Are Drowned in Storm Off Sandy Beach
Bergholtz Youths Are Victims Of Double Fatality; One Body Is Recovered.
The Niagara river took a ton of at least two lives yesterday when Harold Jagow, 17, and his brother, Benjamin Jagow, 18, both of Jagow road, town of Wheatfield, were drowned while swimming at Sandy Beach, on Grand Island in the upper river. Reports that another swimmer of the group at the beach was missing were not confirmed.
The body of the younger brother was recovered about 9 last night, some 400 feet out in the river from the point where he had been swimming and search is being today continued for the second body.
Accompanied by three cousins, the two youths went to the beach about 3 p. m. yesterday. and shortly after they had entered the water became separated from the others. With a crowd of some 50 or 60 persons at the small beach, they were not seen by their cousins again, the others assuming that the pair was somewhere in the crowd, which was agitated by wind and rain, which descended at intervals. Finally, about 6 p. m.. their attempts to become reunited with the pair disclosing that they were not in the crowd the cousins raised an alarm and the customs border patrol was notified.
One woman in the crowd revealed that she had seen one of the boys go down in the deep water a short distance from the shore but had assumed at the time that he was merely diving. Meanwhile rumor spread that three other swimmers were missing but two of these were later discovered inland under a tree where they had protected themselves from the storm. Whether a third person was actually missing could not be determined.
Neither of the brothers could swim a stroke, members of the family said today. The pair had never been to the beach before, they said.
Accompanying the pair were three cousins, Norman Devantier, 21 years old, and his two sisters, Lydia and Edna Devantier, all of Tuscarora road, Town of Niagara.
Sergeant Oliver C. Vossler and Inspector Edward T. Millidge, of the customs border patrol, found the body of the younger Jagow brother at about 9 o'clock last night through the use of grappling hooks. Medical Examiner Charles E. Long, of Buffalo, issued a certificate of accidental death.
The search was abandoned late last night because of the high wind hut was resumed today although it was feared that the other body may have been carried down the river and possibly over the cataract.
Funeral arrangements for the younger youth have not been completed yet but is expected that the service will be held Wednesday. Surviving the pair, who were born and raised in Bergholtz, are their father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jagow; six brothers, Walter Jagow, of Denver, Col., and Howard, Franklin, Irwin, Victor and Frederick Jagow, all of the Town of Wheatfield; and four sisters, Mrs. Hugo Gade and Mrs. Melvin Williams, both of Bergholtz, and Elfrieda and Marilyn Jagow, both at home.

TWO BROTHERS LOSE LIVES IN NIAGARA RIVER
Residents of Niagara Falls Boulevard, Bergholz, are drowned near Buckhorn Island
Two brothers were drowned in the Niagara River at the state park reservation on Buckhorn Island just off the northeast shore of Grand Island yesterday afternoon.
Authorities reported they were Harold and Benjamin Gagow (sic) of Niagara Fans Boulevard, Bergholtz, Town of Wheatfield. They were eighteen to twenty years old.
The brothers went to the island at 3 p. m. with a third youth, who started a hunt for them when it was time for him to go home. The brothers' clothes were found on the shore and when no trace of them was to be seen the United States customs border patrol was notified. Sergt (sic) Oliver C. Vossler and Inspector Edward T. Millidge went to the scene in a boat equipped with grappling irons.
After dragging an hour the border patrolmen found one of the bodies. whose it was could not immediately be determined. They were grappling for the second body early this morning. Medical Examiner Charles E. Long was notified and went to the island.

Body of Benjamin Jagow, Victim of Double Tragedy, Interred at Bergholtz
The body of Benjamin Jagow, 18 years old, of the Jagow road, Town of Wheatfield, was laid at rest this afternoon in Holy Ghost cemetery. Bergholtz, beside that of his brother, Harold, 17. who was buried yesterday. Both boys met their deaths in a double swimming fatality at a Grand Island beach Sunday afternoon but the elder brother's body was not recovered until yesterday afternoon.
Recovery of the body. as was related in yesterday's Owl edition of the Gazette, was made near the Canadian Maid of the Mist landing by Edward Sloggett and Bert LeBlond, employees of the Maid of the Mist Steamship company, who were able to reach it near the Falls View bridge in a rowboat.
Identification of the body at the Morse and Sons funeral parlors in Niagara Falls, Ont., was made late yesterday by Fred Jagow, father of the youths. Dr. George B. Snyder, Niagara Falls, Ont, coroner, examined the remains and decided that an inquest was not necessary. The services this afternoon were held from the family home with the Rev. John Kuchenbecker, pastor of the Holy Ghost Lutheran church, at Bergholtz, officiating.
The body of Harold was recovered Sunday night near the spot where the drowning occurred by members of the customs border patrol who dragged the river with grappling hooks. The two youths, with three cousins, went to the beach Sunday about 3 o'clock and immediately became separated from their relations. The cousins did not realize, because of a rain storm and the crowd that the pair was missing until about 6 o'clock when an alarm was raised. The double fatality was first reported to have occurred at Sandy Beach on Grand Island but J. C. Janes, agent for the owners of the Sandy Beach property, yesterday denied that it had occurred there but placed it at the Wagner farm, an adjoining property.

BERGHOLTZ, July 29-Funeral services for Harold Jagow, 16, who was drowned Sunday while swimming at Sandy beach, on Grand Island, in the upper river, were held at the family home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and from the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. John Kreckenbecker (sic) officiated. The bearers were: Clarence Hoyer, Norman Devanter, Arthur Wolf, Harrison Noblo, Alvin Schemschack (sic), Alvin Stoelting. Interment was in the Holy Ghost cemetery.

Wheatfield official E.D. Jagow dies
BERGHOLTZ - Erwin D. Jagow, 53, of 2587 Niagara Road, died Friday (Oct. 7, 1977) in Buffalo Veteran's Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was a life-long resident of Wheatfield where he was a building inspector and ordinance officer for the last II years.
He was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Layman's League, Bergholtz Fire Company, the Wheatfield Association, and a 12-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was also past commander of the Wheatfield Post American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Harloff); two sons, Dale of Greensboro, N.C., and Brent at home; two brothers, Howard Jagow of Wheatfield; and Victor of Thurmont, Md.; four sisters, Mrs. Hugo (Evelyn) Gade of Forest Hills, Md., Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Winter of North Tonawanda, and Mrs. Melvin (Betty) Williams and Miss Alfreda Jagow, both of Wilson. Also surviving are two grandchildren.
There will be no prior visitation. Funeral services will he held 10:30 a.m. Monday from Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with the Rev. Albert W. Bahr officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery.

Elmer A. De Vantier 84, of the Town of Cambria, NY died Wednesday June 12, 2002, in the Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, Niagara County, NY, after a long illness.
He was born February 6, 1918, in the Town of Niagara the son of Albert and Christine [ Hoffmeister ] De Vantier, where he attended local schools. Always living on a farm, Elmer began his farming career at an early age, assisting with the farm chores as a child.
He moved to the town of Cambria, in 1944, where he continued to operate his own farm, until his health prevented him from doing so. He was a longtime member of the St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Pekin, Niagara County, NY.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Ruth E. Mueller; two sons, Richard De Vantier; Robert and wife Susan De Vantier, all of Sanborn, NY; Susan Thompson; Sharon and husband Kenneth Walker, of Sanborn, NY; one sister Lydia and husband Norman Mueller, of the Town of Niagara, Niagara County, NY; six grandchildren, Michelle Thompson; Jayme Thompson; Dan Walker; Andrew Walker; Rebecca Drabczyk and Christina De Vantier.
He was pre-deceased by one brother, Norman De Vantier, one sister, Gladys Milleville and one son-in-law William Thompson.
The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, NY, from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 P.M., Friday.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 am, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 3229 Upper Mountain Road, Pekin, Niagara County, NY, with the Rev. R,. Peter Voegeler, officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Andrew Lutheran Cemetery.

She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda and was a devoted homemaker. Jean was the beloved wife of the late George M. Phillips and was also predeceased by a brother, William Wrege, Jr.

Of the Town of Wheatfield, NY, passed away on  Sunday, April 16, 2023, at his home.  He was born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on June 2, 1928, a son of the late Edward and  Ella [Hoffmeister] Schroeder.
Mr. Schroeder served with the US Army from 1955 to 1957.
He was employed with the Town of Wheatfield Highway Department for over 25 years, retiring in 1989.
Mr. Schroeder enjoyed classic cars, antiques, riding his Harley and traveling.
He is survived by two nephews Ronald and Donald Schroeder, his dear friend Carole Kincaid and her daughter Natalie (Erick Underwood) Borga, also many cousins  and friends.
He was the brother of the late Robert Schroeder.

NIAGARA FALLS - Edgar L. Schultz, 87, of Weston Avenue, died Dec. 21, 1993, at Niagara Falls Memorial Nursing Home after a short illness. A native of Niagara Falls, Schultz was born June 17, 1906, the son of Lebrecht and Auguste (Voelker)
He was employed as an accountant for more than 30 years with various businesses in Niagara Falls and enjoyed a second career with the Maid of the Mist Corp. for 21 years.
He was a member of St. Paul Calvary Lutheran Church.
In 1990, Mr. Schultz was recognized by Channel 7 as an Outstanding Senior Citizen.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Meyer) Schultz of Niagara Falls; two sons, Peter M. Schultz of Oswego and Jonathan M. Schultz of Lewiston; a brother, Alfred Schultz of Niagara Falls; a sister, Esther Greinert of North Tonawanda; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

NORTH TONAWANDA - Alfred E. Schultz, 97, of Nash Road, North Tonawanda, died on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born March 14, 1913 in Niagara Falls, the son of Lebrecht and Auguste (Voelker) Schultz.

A graduate of Niagara Falls High School, Al worked in the order department of the bonded division of the Carborundum Company for 33 years, retiring in 1978.

A lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls, he served on various church councils and committees, including treasurer for 15 years. Al was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels for 25 years; an avid gardener and was active in bowling and softball for several years.

Al’s beloved wife of 66 years, Ruth D. Schultz predeceased him in 2004. Survivors include a daughter, Linda J. (Jay) Dillinger of Tampa, FL; two sons, James A. (Connie) Schultz of Fayetteville, GA and Paul T. (Joyce) Schultz of North Tonawanda; a sister, Esther E. Greinert of North Tonawanda; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Edgar Schultz and a sister, Gertrude L. Roesener.

NIAGARA FALLS - George "Chick" Heuer, age 89, was called to his heavenly home to be with our Lord and Savior on September 19, 2010 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on March 20, 1921 to the late George and Christine Heuer. George was predeceased by his loving wife, Helma (DeVantier) Heuer on December 26, 1986. They were united in marriage on August 3, 1946. George served in the U.S. Army in the 28th Infantry Division as a Heavy Machine Gunner during World War II. He was wounded in battle in Normandy, France on August 11, 1944, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. George was employed for 43 years at the National Grinding Wheel in North Tonawanda, retiring in 1984. He was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he held numerous offices over the years, including elder and sang for many years in the choir. He was chairman of the Building Committee during the construction of the church. He was a member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company for over 70 years and a former foreman and assistant chief. George was also a member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two devoted daughters, Cynthia and Marcia Heuer of Wheatfield; a sister, Lillian (late Chester) Haseley of Sanborn and brother-in-law, Dennis (Doris) DeVantier of Wheatfield; and several nephews and a niece. In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by two brothers, Martin and Arthur Heuer and a sister, Hildegarde.

NIAGARA FALLS - Edward H. Grobengieser, who operated a family grocery here for 60 years, died Wednesday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, following a brief illness. He was 91. The Niagara Falls native attended local schools and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Grobengieser's father opened Grobengieser & Sons on the corner of 18th Street and South Avenue in 1924. Edward Grobengieser operated the store, also known as "Grobie's," alongside his father and brother for 60 years. After closing the store, Mr. Grobengieser volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church for over 20 years. Helen L. Hassan, 81, a homemaker who worked in her family's grocery store for many years, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) in her Grand Island home after a long illness.
Born Helen Grobengieser in Niagara Falls, she worked in the family grocery store for many years after graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1940 with top honors. Grobengieser & Sons, the family store, was located on 18th Street and South Avenue in Niagara Falls for 65 years.
A homemaker for most of her life, she was a lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. She enjoyed bowling, cooking, gardening and trips to the family cabin in Canisteo.
Her husband, Daniel, died in 1979.
She is survived by three sons, Robert of Crossville, TN., James of Wolcott and Mark of Grand Island; a brother, Edward Grobengieser of Niagara Falls; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held today in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls.

NIAGARA FALLS - Robert E. Ferchen, age 82, of Bergholz, was called to his heavenly home on November 1, 2010 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, on January 2, 1928 to the late Valerius and Helene (Voelker) Ferchen.

A lifelong member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, Bergholz. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Wendt on June 3, 1950. She entered into rest December 5, 1997. Robert is a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the American Legion- Wheatfield Post 1451 and an exempt member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company. His hobbies and interests included baseball, playing euchre and gardening. He was employed at Canlake-Ashland Oil Company and NOCO in Tonawanda, retiring as a supervisor in 1990.

Survivors include two children, Cary (Laura) Ferchen and Claudia Ferchen; grandchildren, Christopher (Michelle) Ferchen, Donna (Ron) Ferchen, Tim (fiancee Franci) Ferchen and Jonathan Ferchen; step-grandchildren, Lisa (Andrew) Ferree and Erin (Michael) Jankowiak; a great-grandchild, Savannah and step-great-grandchildren, Andrew, Hannah and Madison; and several nieces and nephews. She was an active member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women's Missonary (sic) League, Altar Guild and the Quilting Group. HAROLD R. WIENKE, age 93 of Bergholz, Town of Wheatfield, NY, entered into his heavenly home on January 1, 2019 at the Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on January 12, 1925; son of the late Reinhard and Gertrude (Voelker) Wienke. Harold attended St. James Lutheran School, LaSalle High School, and Coyne Electrical College, in Chicago, IL. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was assigned to the Carrier Aircraft Service Unit, where he did electrical service work on single engine fighter planes, Grumman F6F and Corsair F4U. He was honorably discharged in May 21, 1946, AEM2nd C.
Harold joined his father's business, R.E. Wienke & Son, Electrical Contractors, retiring in 1987. He was a charter member of the American Legion Wheatfield Post 1451, and was active in obtaining the Post's first home on Rohr Street, in Bergholz, a one-room schoolhouse, as a gift from the local school district. Harold served in various offices in the Legion, including Commander. He headed the grave-decorating committee for many years and often took his grandchildren with him, to place or collect flags at Niagara County cemeteries. Harold was a charter member of the Wheatfield Business Association, and served as its first treasurer. He joined the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company, at the age of 21, and was a 72 year exempt member, serving various offices including President. Harold was a life long member of St. James Lutheran Church, in Bergholz, where he was baptized, confirmed and married by his neighbor, the Rev. Otto Bruss. During most of his life, he lived just a few steps from his beloved St. James.
Harold enjoyed family get-togethers and dinners, backyard softball, board games, cards and bowling. His bowling team consisted of seven other American Legion members, who were also all Lutherans from different area churches.
Harold enjoyed his B&E (Baseball and Euchre). The club had monthly card games, dinners and picnics, and a yearly trip to a major league ballpark for the weekend.
Baseball was Harold's favorite sport. In later years he enjoyed watching the Yankee Channel on TV. In the past, he and four friends saw the Cleveland Indians win a 1948 World Series game, where he saw center fielder Larry Doby play, who was the first Afro-American League player. Over the years, he and his wife, Peggy, visited 15 major league cities to see games.
Harold married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Lou Parris, on August 21, 1948, enjoying 70 years of marriage. She predeceased Harold just three months ago, passing away on October 1, 2018.
Also preceding him in death was his sister, Janice and brother in law, Eugene Camann. Harold's parent's both came from large families. His father, Reinhard Wienke, had 11 sisters and brothers, and his mother, Gertrude Voelker, had 10 sisters and brothers. Of the many Voelker cousins (21), Lois Milleville, is the only surviving cousin.
Harold is survived b y his two daughters, Jennifer Parris (David Hardy) and Suzanne Wienke (Christine Pyjas); grandchildren, Richard (Heather) Skorik, Andrew Skorik, Tiffany (Darren) Palmer, Lindsey Graca, and Eric (Trista) Graca; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Kristin, Drake, Serena, Nadia, Nathaniel, Autumn and Kailan. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and dear family friend, Erich Marzahl.
Private services for the immediate family will be conducted by the Rev. Dan Tabor, at DuBois Funeral Home (Bergholz) in Wheatfield. Interment will follow in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz, or Niagara Hospice.

Lois J. (Voelker) Milleville, 90, of Wheatfield, NY, was carried into the loving arms of Jesus on December 13, 2019 at Niagara Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.  Born on January 3, 1929 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Frances (Haseley) Voelker. Lois attended St. James Parochial School and LaSalle Jr./Sr. High School.

Mrs. Milleville, also known to family and friends as “Grandma Dolly,” and the “matriarch” of her large, growing family, had a standard; love of God, love of family and working diligently.  She was selfless and leaves behind a legacy of service and love for others.  Lois’ spiritual journey began as a young child, being baptized at St. James Lutheran Church, and she practiced her faith in her daily walk as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She stayed faithful to God as an active member of St. James, serving as president of Women of the Church, a leader of Lutheran World Relief Quilter Group (producing over 100 quilts per year) and sang in their choir. She and her husband Wilbert were destined to find love. Born one day apart, growing up only a mile away from each other, attending their entire schooling together, both coming from a deep German/Lutheran heritage and being raised in the same church.  Lois and Wilbert married on June 11, 1949 at St. James Lutheran Church.  Wilbert was her lifelong love, sweetheart and partner until he sadly went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2014, after 65 years of marriage.  Her love of family began to grow as their family became larger, which also transitioned into her taking pride in her work.  Mrs. Milleville was active in the day-to-day operations of Milleville Farms, including farming and office work.  Lois enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends throughout the world and annually enjoyed spending time with Wilbert, family and friends at a resort in Kissimmee, FL, where they had vacationed since 2002.  She took great pride and delight in sewing baby quilts for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Milleville was an excellent cook and baker.  Her pie making skills were legendary and her “go to” dessert for any and all occasions.

Lois was the beloved mother of Kathleen L. (John G. III) Miskey, John R. (Joyce) Milleville, Lee W. (Maureen) Milleville, Mary Ann (R.Steven) Kowalski, David E. (Jane) Milleville and Timothy C. (Donna) Milleville; the cherished grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Elva (late Edgar) Walck, Jean (Richard) St. John and Lois (late Dale) Bush and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her parents and spouse, Lois was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis (late Colonel, Raymond) Wienk.

She was the wife of the late William Behm. She was the sister of the late John and Arthur Stange. NORTH TONAWANDA, Feb. 8 - Sergeant Richard Duerr, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Duerr, 28 Munroe street, has been missing over Germany since January 10, a
War department telegram informed his parents today. The parents believe he was on his 15th mission as a turret gunner aboard a B-17 Flying Fortress when the ship failed to retuen to its base. he wrote the family on January 9 from an Eighth Air Force base in England that he had just completed his 14th mission. A native of this city. Sergeant Duerr graduated from the local high school In June of 1943. He enlisted in the Air Forces in November of that year. He received his wings at Las Vegas, Nevada, in May 1944 and went overseas in September of the same year. He won the Air Medal on his sixth mission.
Richard D. Duerr, age 97, of North Tonawanda, December 8, 2022, in the VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Richard served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a ball turret gunner on a B-17 and was shot down during the Battle of the Bulge and taken prisoner. He served as Lt. Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Richard loved to fly. He was the husband of the late Jean (nee Broecker) Duerr. Dear father of Michael (Beth) Duerr of Sanborn, Lynn Jelodardezfooli and Scott Duerr both of North Tonawanda and Brian Duerr of Pendleton; grandfather of five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. The Honorable Robert Kenneth Duerr, 88, of North Tonawanda, died peacefully on September 2nd, 2015, surrounded by his family at their home. He died from complications associated with Alzheimer's. Judge Duerr was born on December 24, 1926 and lived his entire life in North Tonawanda, NY. He was the son of the late Arthur and Lonia (nee Hoffmeister) Duerr of North Tonawanda. Judge Duerr is survived by his wife of 62 years, Caroline Czamanske Duerr and seven children, the Reverend Robert K. Jr. of North Tonawanda, Timothy of Birmingham, MI, Mary (Mark) Stettner of Milton, GA, Ruth (Randy) Ortiz of Rochester Hills, MI, Rebekah (Daniel) Stayner of Youngstown, NY, David (Marjorie) of Burr Ridge, IL and Sarah (Daniel) Anderson of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother Richard (Jean) Duerr also of North Tonawanda. His brother and sister-in-law Donald and Marianne Duerr preceded him in death. Judge Duerr attended St. Mark Lutheran School, graduated from North Tonawanda High School (1944), attended Canisius College and graduated from Valparaiso University with a BA (1951) and a Juris Doctor degree (1953). He was a member of the Law School's Golden Gavel Society and had an award named after him at the Law School. The “Duerr Award”, was created to honor graduates whose exemplary personal and professional lifestyles enhances the Law School's reputation in their own communities. The symbol of the award is a black blazer hand stitched with the School of Law crest. He was a member of the Sigma Delta Kappa Law fraternity. Judge Duerr was captain of his NT football team his senior year and played football at Canisius and Valparaiso. He served as a special agent, Counter Intelligence Corps, United States Army from 1953-55. He practiced law in North Tonawanda since 1955. He was an assistant District Attorney of Niagara County from 1958-1967. He was elected North Tonawanda City Court Judge and served from 1980-1995. Presently a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, where he served as president and elder, Judge Duerr also served as president and treasurer of Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda. He was a member of the Rotary Club, America Legion, Sikora Post, Gratwick Hose, Dom Polski's, The Boys Club of the Tonawandas, DeGraff Memorial Hospital and the Bar Association of the Tonawandas' and Niagara County. He was a past president of both the Bar Associations and the Town Club of the Tonawandas. Besides his great love for his family, a few of the Judge's true passions were taking immaculate care of the yard at his home on Christiana Street, his famous backyard cookouts, attending Valparaiso Homecomings, and following the Valparaiso University Crusaders. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, season ticket holder and traveled to all their Super Bowl games and many away games over the years. LEWISTON — Donald Edward Duerr, age 83, of North Tonawanda, peacefully, January 9, 2014 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston. Donald was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a former employee of Columbus McKinnon, Valu Home Center and HSBC Bank. Donald was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Aero Club of Buffalo. He had an airplane pilot's license and he built and flew his own airplane. Donald enjoyed camping, motorcycle riding and spending time with his family. He was the son of the late Arthur and Lonia (Hoffmeister) Duerr. Beloved husband of Marianne (Lovegrove) Duerr for over 54 years. Father of Laura (Robert) Jagow, Linda (John) Reuther, Robert Duerr, John (Marla) Duerr, Donna (Don) Klug, Debra (Chris) Fronczak, Dorene (Brian) Manchester and Darcie (Daniel) Seider. Marilyn L. Koithan, of the Town of Wheatfield, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, in Northgate Health Care Facility.  She was born in  Tonawanda, NY, on January 11, 1934,  the daughter of the late Edmund and Erma [Gentzke] Hoffmeister.
Mrs. Koithan helped her husband on the family farm and ran the farm's fruit stand every fall. She was known as the "Apple Lady".   She also liked gardening, sewing, and crafts.  
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Koithan was the wife of the late Herbert A. Koithan, who passed away in May of 2018.

Lyle A. Hoffmeister, 86, of The Villages, Fl (North Tonawanda, NY) passed at Cornerstone Hospice after his fight with cancer.
He was the beloved husband of Diane (Wall) Hoffmeister, sister of Nancy (Don) Schimschack, brother of Carl (late Bonnie) Hoffmeister of NC. Beloved son of William (Nancy and the late Julie) Hoffmeister of Clarence, NY and John Hoffmeister (Kirsten) of VA. Grandfather to John Paul (Cindy), great grandchild Jackson, Kassandra (Erik) Flading and Clayton all of VA. , Emily Wangler of Colorado and special niece known as Auntie Lora to the Grandchildren. Several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Gratwick Lumber Company of North Tonawanda was a family business which he ended up closing. He worked at Kittinger Furniture in Buffalo for 26 years and 6 years at North Tonawanda Public Library. He was a lifetime member of St Mark’s Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda and an associated member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Florida. He was a Veteran and a lifetime member of Amvets in North Tonawanda. He has now gone full circle and is at peace in his eternal home.

NORTH TONAWANDA - Harold H. Heuer, age 89, of Wheatfield, was called to his heavenly home to be with our Lord on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, on April 15, 1921 to the late John and Esther (Mueller) Heuer. Harold was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II in the 896th Signal Company. He was employed at Hooker Chemical for 40 years and a half years until his retirement. Harold was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Wheatfield and their Men's Club, American Legion Wheatfield Post 1451, Bergholz Volunteer Fire Co., Lutheran Layman's League, Town of Wheatfield Senior Citizens, North German Historical Society; volunteered at Meals On Wheels, Elderwood Health Care at Crestwood and North Gate Health Care Facility. Hobbies and interests included gardening, bowling and playing euchre.

Survivors include his wife, Jane E. (Pankow) Heuer. They were united in marriage February 9, 1946; four children, Curtis (Jeanne) Heuer, Mary (Henry) Striewing, Mark (Minerva) Heuer and Steven (Ann) Heuer; a brother, James Heuer; sister, Lydia Masters; five grandchildren, Nathan Heuer, Michael and Matthew Striewing, Virginia Kahmann and Jonathan Heuer; and a great-granddaughter, Briahnna Lynn. He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Heuer and a sister, Dorothy Wolf.

Melvin J. Mueller, a retired National Fuel line foreman, died Monday (Jan. 22, 2001) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a long illness. He was 72.
Mueller was a native of Wheatfield and had been a lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bergholz and a member of its choir.
He worked for National Fuel for 31 years, retiring in 1990.
Mueller was an active member of Bergholz Fire Company and its fire police and the Bergholz German Band. He enjoyed gardening and bowling.
Mueller is survived by two daughters, Colleen and Brenda, both of North Tonawanda; a brother, Delbert of Streetman, TX; a sister, Eunice Gardener of Bergen; his stepmother, Ella of Wheatfield; and a granddaughter.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday in St. James Church, 2437 Niagara Road, Bergholz. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield.

Eunice H. Gardner, 92, of Bergen, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at her home. Eunice was born July 20, 1930, in the town of Wheatfield, Niagara County, N.Y., to the late John and Ada Milleville Mueller. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On May 17, 1961, she was united in marriage to Harry Gardner, who passed away in November 1989. Eunice was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia. She loved serving her Lord in many ways. One of her favorite ways was meeting every Tuesday with her gal pals, where she hand sewed hundreds of quilts for Lutheran World Relief, for well over 30 years. For many years, Eunice was a child care provider, and has stayed in contact with many of them. She enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. She also enjoyed going out with the Gilliam Grant lunch group, Silver Sneakers, and taking day trips to the Amish Villages and stores. Along with gardening, Eunice enjoyed putting puzzles together, doing crossword puzzles, adult coloring, baking and going on Facebook. Her greatest joy was spending time at family gatherings enjoying the active great grandchildren and crazy fun of the Saran wrap ball at Christmas. Her marriage was blessed by two sons, Peter of Bergen and Philip (Dee) also of Bergen; a grandson, Jordan, and three granddaughters, Nicole (Angelo) Antonini, Kelly (Steve) Panek and Caitlyn Saville; three great-grandchildren. She is survived by a brother, Delbert (Gerda) Mueller of Texas; three nieces and one nephew. Preceded in death by brother, Melvin Mueller; and her stepmother, Ella Mueller. Eunice was a kind, loving woman of God and she will be deeply missed. Erwin J. Milleville, 76, of Cayuga Drive, died Tuesday (July 29, 1997) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, 'suddenly.
Born in Wheatfield on May 28,1921, he was the son of Hugo and Beata (Mueller) Milleville. He was a graduate of LaSalle Senior High School. During World War II, Mr. Milleville served in the U.S. Navy, in the Seabees. He married Jean Moebius on May 28, 1949. Mr. Milleville was employed at the former Oldbury County, which was latcr absorbed into Hooker Chemical, as a pipe-fitter for 42 years. He retired in 1982.
He was a lifelong member of St. 'James Lutheran Church, Bergholz, where he had held various positions, including Sunday schoolteacher, trustee, secretary and president. He was a charter member of the Wheatfield American Legion Post 1451. Mr. Milleville was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed bowling and golfing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Larry Milleville of Atlanta and Paul Milleville of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Linda Haseley of Sanborn; two brothers, Richard Milleville of Wheatfield and Donald Milleville of the Town of Niagara; five sisters, Florence Mielke of Niagara Falls, Winifred Proefrock and Alice Lang, both of Wheatfield, Janice Kysor of Lewiston and Beatrice Nehrboss of Newstead; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Alfred Milleville.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, where the Seabees will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday and the Wheatfield Post 1451 will hold a service at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. David Menz will conduct services at 11 a.m. Friday in St. James Lutheran Church, Niagara Road and Rohr Street, Bergholz. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield. Milleville, 76, of Cayuga Drive, was born in Wheatfield and was a graduate of LaSalle High School. He served in the Navy Seabees during World War II
Milleville was employed at the former Oldbury Co. later known as Hooker Chemical, then Occidental Chemical, as a pipe fitter for 42 years. He retired in 1982.
He was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he had been a Sunday school teacher, trustee, secretary and president.
Milleville was a charter member of the Wheatfield Post 1451 of the American Legion, an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed bowling and golf.

WHEATFIELD - Winifred Proefrock, a talented Danish needle painter, died Wednesday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness. She was 81.

Born Winifred Milleville in Wheatfield, she attended St. James Lutheran School and was a life member of St. James Lutheran Church and its Women of the Church, quilters and choir. She also taught Sunday school for more than 25 years.

Mrs. Proefrock was a member of the Bergholz Historical Society. She worked in production at an area factory during World War II. Her husband, Harold A., died in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Haniszewski of Pendleton; a brother, Richard Milleville of Bergholz; four sisters, Florence Mielke of Wheatfield, Beatrice Nehrboss of Akron, Janice Kysor of Lewiston and Alice Lange of Wheatfield; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 A.M. Saturday in St. James Church, Niagara Road and Rohr Street, Bergholz. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was born Nov, 29, 1924, in Wheatfield, the son of Hugo and Beata (Mueller) Milleville, He attended St. James Lutheran School, Niagara Falls High School and the former Trott Vocational High School.
Mr, Milleville served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 as a private first class in Company M. 35th Division, 137th Infantry Regiment. He served in Germany.
He worked as a head mechanic at the Niagara-Wheatfield School District bus garage for 20 years. He retired at the age of 55 and purchased the Meeting Place on Niagara Road. He ran that business for eight years in the 1980s. He also owned and operated the A + H Boulevard Garage across from Bell Aerospace with his brother-in-law, Harold Proefrock.
Mr. Milleville was a charter member American Legion Wheatfield Post 1465, VFW Post 9011 and the Wheatfield Businessmen. He was an exempt member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Co. and attended St. James Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, golfing and helping out at the church and at the legion post.

Alfred E. "Ollie" Milleville, 71, of Washington Street, retired head mechanic at the Niagara-Wheatfield School bus garage and former owner of the Meeting Place restaurant, died Thursday (Nov. 28, 1996) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after an illness of seven months.
The Wheatfield native attended St. James Lutheran School, Niagara Falls High School and the former Trott Vocational High School in Niagara Falls.
Milleville served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, and was stationed in Germany with the 137th Infantry Regiment.
He was a charter member of Wheatfield Post 1465, American Legion, and a member of Post 9011, Veterans of Foreign Wars; St. James Lutheran Church; and the Wheatfield Businessmen's Association. He also was an exempt member of Bergholz Fire Company.
Milleville worked at the Niagara-Wheatfield School bus garage for 20 years until he retired as head mechanic when he was 55.
He and his wife then purchased the Meeting Place on Niagara Road.
The couple operated the restaurant for eight years during the 1980s.
Milleville and his brother-in-law, Harold Proefrock, had owned and operated A&H Boulevard Garage, across Niagara Falls Boulevard from the former Bell Aerospace plant. Milleville also worked as a mechanic at Empire Builders of Niagara Falls before working at Niagara-Wheatfield.
Milleville enjoyed golfing, spending time with his
grandchildren and doing volunteer work at his church and at the American Legion hall.

Richard Edgar Milleville, born to Hugo and Beata Milleville on July 1st, 1927, passed away on May 3rd, 2017, at the age of 89.  Richard was the beloved husband of Emily (Dietz) Milleville for 56 wonderful years.  Richard was a devoted lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church.  He attended Trott Vocational School in Niagara Falls and later served in the US Marine Corps from 1945 to 1946.  After his time in the service Richard worked as a millwright for General Abrasives for 33 years.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, bowling, hunting, spoiling his grandchildren, and attending his family’s sporting events. He was a member of the Bergholz Fire Company for 63 years.
Richard is survived by two sisters, Janice Kirchner and Alice Lange and to sisters-in-law Jean and Joanne Milleville; and his ten children and their spouses; Richard (Nancy), Jeffrey (late Wanda), Jane (Clayton) Wilson, Michael (Janet), Sharon (George) Walters, Bruce (Debbie), Brad (Susan), Sue (Jeffery) Boyer, Michelle (David) Lyman, and Christine (Brian) Foy. He was the proud grandfather of Andrea, Jon, Kristen, Liz, Ricky, Jess, Ben, Carly, Mikaela, Jake, Ryan, Sam, Tyler, Megan, Julia, Mason, Dan, Arianna, Sydney, Sarah, Matthew, Alyssa, Nate, and Nick; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by six siblings, Erwin, Florence, Winifred, Alfred, Beatrice, and Donald.

She was a life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholtz, NY, sharing her sewing and needlework skills with Lutheran World Relief Quilts, Prayer Shawls for the homebound, and lap robes for veterans. She will always be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, welcoming friendliness to all, willingness to help others in need, and her famous angel food cake. She will always hold a special place in everyone's hearts.
Florence donated her body to science. There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholtz, NY on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

She began her career in education and earned a Masters Degree in Library Science from SUNY Buffalo in 1986. She joined the law firm of Watt, Tieder, Hoffar and Fitzgerald in McLean, VA, as their law librarian and served in that capacity until her passing. She took great pride in her work. Survived by her husband, Paul. She was loving mother to Ethan (Pepper), Honolulu, HI, Kristin (Joe) Murdock (Leesburg, VA) and "Grand B" to Nicholas and Justin Murdock. SHARON L. MONTIE, age 74, of North Tonawanda, NY, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, following a brief battle with cancer. Sharon was born on January 31, 1946 in Niagara Falls, NY, to Walter J. and Hilda E. (Walck) Jagow. She grew up in Bergholz and graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School. She earned an Associates degree in Medical Secretarial Arts, from Concordia Lutheran College in Bronxville, NY. She married Thomas Montie on September 3, 1967. They spent half of their married life in the Cleveland, OH area, before moving back to Niagara County in 1997. Sharon worked as an office manager for several medical practices and financial offices, beginning in 1982, until the time of her death.She was a church musician since she was a teenager, playing the piano and organ, and often directing choirs and special ensembles. Most recently, she was the organist and choir director at St. Mark Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda, for over 20 years. She had a gift for leading people in worship. In her home, she was a faithful wife and mother.Survivors include her son, Timothy Montie; two daughters, Sara (Nathan) Hembree, and Carrie Montie; a brother, Charlie Jagow and sister-in-law, Marilyn Jagow; nine grandchildren, Aubrie, Michael, Bethany, Peter, Victor, Judah, Benjamin, Gloria, and Elijah; also sisters-in law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years.Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Friday (January 29) from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A private committal with the family, will take place in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery, on Saturday, prior to the memorial service. Friends are invited to join with the family at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1135 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda, NY 14120, for the memorial service. Thomas D Williams, age 67, of the Town of Wilson, was called home, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Wednesday May 4, 2005, at his home under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was born on May 18, 1937, the son of Elizabeth Jagow Williams and the late Melvin C. Williams.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He married Lorena Lester on Jul 20, 1957. Tom worked as a carpenter for 48 years. Singing and wood carving were his passions and he generously gave away most of his carving to family, friends and churches throughout the country.
He was a member of the Board of Directors for Opportunities Unlimited, and Chairman of the Board for six years. He also served on the NYSARC Board of Governors for New York State. He as a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church (North Ridge), and had served as Secretary of the Congregation, Elder, Choir and Praise Group Member, and Chairman of the Board of Education. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1955, was a member of the National Guard and the Barber Shoppers (S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.). He worked for the government SBA and was a co-owner of Heavens to Betsy gift shop.
Besides his mother, Elizabeth Williams of Lockport, he is survived by his wife, Lorena (Lester) Williams; three children, Mrs. Cynthia (Alonzo) St. Louis of Barker, Earl Williams of Lockport, and Mark (Patrice) Williams of Newfane; two brothers, Douglas (Nancy) Williams of Arizona, and Timothy (Donna) Williams of Lockport; three sisters, Patricia (Gary) Johnston of Wilson, Nancy (Richard) Reak of Tennessee and Betsy (Carl) Bodie of Wilson; two grandchildren, Larissa St. Louis and Alonzo St. Louis, Jr. and soon to be grandson Thomas Frank Williams. Also survived by several loving aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM and the Hamilton and Clark Inc., Funeral Home, 270 Young Street, Wilson. Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4169 Church Rd., Cambria, Saturday at 11 AM with Rev. Dr, David S. Belasic officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Cambria. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter Lutheran Church, North Ridge, Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara or Niagara Hospice, gratefully accepted.
