LOCKPORT—An autopsy has revealed that a
heart attack caused the death of Clarence D. Bailey,
56, of 5285 Lower Mountain Road, Town of Lockport,
who was found Monday afternoon in the midst of a
spreading grass fire on the used car lot he operated.
Mr. Bailey, an auto dealer
here for more than 30 years,
was found lying in the center
of a grass-car' fire by a neighbor,
Allen Graham, 5320 Blck-
ert Place, Just east of the used
car lot
Mr. and Mrs. Graham saw
smoke coming from the used
car lot. They ran over to the
lot, but could not locate Mr.
Bailey. Mr. Graham then
spotted Mr. Bailey lying near
the center of the blaze which
had spread to a car.
Mr. Graham called the
South Lockport Volunteer Fire
Co. which put out the blase.
He also called the Niagara
County Sheriffs Department.
Two deputies came to the
scene, where they found the
grass and a car in flames.
Mr. Graham showed them the
body of a man was was Identified
as Clarence Bailey by
his son, Clarence Bailey Jr.
of Newfane.
Deputies said it seemed apparent
that Mr. Bailey was
trying to extinguish the blase
with a broom which was found
near his body. No cause has
been determined for the blase.
Coroner Oscar H. Bell di-
rected the Gaul Funeral Home
to take the body to Lockport
Memorial Hospital, where an
autopsy was performed. Mr.
Bell said that Mr. Bailey also
had suffered serious back
burns.

28, 1910, in the Town of Hartland,

Bowers Bailey.
He s t a r t e d selling used
cars in 1938 and in 1987 opened
the Clarence Bailey Nash
Agency here, which he operated
until 1999. He then resumed
seUing used cars. Before
entering the automobile
business, he w a s employed
for several years by Eugene
O'Byrne and Sons, a feed business.

Ballley was a member of the
Lockport Power Seuadren
and the Niagara County Ser-

He was a past commodore
ind was a director of
the Island Yacht Club, Wilson.
