NORTH TONAWANDA, June 14- August Proefrock, 76 years old, a lifelong resident of the Town of Wheatfield and the city of North Tonawanda, died Saturday night at his home, 519 Prospect street. He is survived by six sons, Henry, William, Edward, and Arnold, North Tonawanda, Walter, North Ridge, and Fred, Alexander, N. Y.; four daughters, Mrs. Emma Kolbe, Mrs. Edward Manth, Mrs. Walter Wilke and Mrs. Edwin Freck, North Tonawanda; 31 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Gustav Schendel, Town of Wheatfield. Services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the residence and at 4 o'clock from the St. Matthew's church on Wheatfield street. Rev. Carl Frankenstein will officiate and burial will be in St. Matthew's cemetery.

MILLS – Emm Kolbe (nee Proefrock) Mills, 90, of North Tonawanda, Saturday (July 29, 1978) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Mills was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda , a member of the Golden Agers, St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Women’s Missionary League.

Wife of the late Melvin Mills and William C. Kolbe, Mrs. Mills is survived by three sons, the Rev. Edward ( Norma) Kolbe of Appleton, N.Y., Herbert E. (Lillian) Kolbe of Lockport, N.Y., and Carl W. Walter Proefrock, 80, a former North Tonawanda resident, died Sunday in Chula Vista, Ca., where he had retired several years ago after serving for many years as a supervisor for the Remington Rand Corp. in the Lumber City. Survivors include his wife, Vera, a daughter, and two grandchildren of Chula Vista. Also, one brother, Arnold, and two sisters, Regina Salisbury and Minnie Manth, all of North Tonawanda. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

TOWN OF WHEATFIELD - Francis H. Proefrock, age 89, of Tonawanda, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at Crestwood Nursing Home, after a long illness. Born in Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Henry and Myra (nee Sturmer) Proefrock and was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII. A lifelong resident of Tonawanda, Mr. Proefrock worked as a truck driver for Lawless Container Co. in North Tonawanda until retiring in 1988, and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 860 in North Tonawanda, and the American Legion, Tonawandas Post No. 264. He was the husband of the late Sally (nee Nowak) Proefrock, who died in 1987, and Jane (Betz) Proefrock, who died in 2009.

He is survived by his son, Ronald (Carole) Proefrock; and five daughters, Sharon Razzani, Barbara (Boyd) Ritchie, Joy (Michael) Bastine, Jacqueline (Neil) McGinty and Nancy (Robert) Pieper. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was an Election Poll Worker for many years and a member of the North Tonawanda Senior Center. Beloved wife of the late Frank Guido, who passed away in 1948; devoted mother of Marilyn (Kenneth) Bigham, Frank (Eleanor) Guido, Jim (Kim) Guido, the late George Guido and late Thomas (Linda) Guido; sister of the late Dorothea Tober, late Edward, Herbert, Carl and William Kolbe. Proefrock - Laverne W Proefrock, age 73, of North Tonawanda, Thursday (April 15, 1983) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Mr. Proefrock was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Gratwick Hose Fire Co., the Firemen's Benevolent Assoc. and the American Legion Post #264. Mr. Proefrock was a former employee of Bell Aerospace and was a former North Tonawanda alderman. He was the husband of the late Bertha (nee Sahr) Proefrock who died February 27, 1993.

Winifred R. Werth (Manth) passed away peacefully on January 2, 2017 at the age of 95, in Lockport, N.Y. Mrs. Werth was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Winnie as she was lovingly known by family and friends, was born in North Tonawanda to Edward C. and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Manth, nee Proefrock, on April 11, 1921. She started her career as a billing clerk for Wurlitzer and National Grinding Wheel. Her soon to be husband also worked for NGW. She married the love of her life Erwin H. Werth on July 3, 1941, five months after he proposed on Valentine's Day. After Erwin's death in 1981, Winnie became a Foster Grandparent at Meadow Elementary School. She enjoyed working with the students and teachers; it gave her purpose. She retired after 20 plus years of service. Winnie also enjoyed sewing and baking. We will miss her contagious smile, sense of humor, generous heart, soft hands and her homemade Kris Kringle cookies and fruit cake. She is survived by her daughter Carol A. Werth Poppe (Daniel), son Gary E. Werth (Carol J.), grandchildren: Michelle Hasch (Neal), Kelley Coons (Randy), David Werth (Wendy) and Marc Werth (Rebecca). Roger A. Manth, age 79, of North Tonawanda, died Sunday, January 17, 2010 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Edward and Minnie (nee Proefrock) Manth and served in the New York Air National Guard from 1949 to 1955, including his active duty during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, Roger was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in the Town of Tonawanda and a former member of Friedens United Church of Christ, where he was a former council member. He had worked for the New York Central Railroad and then the United States Postal Service in North Tonawanda from 1959 until his retirement in 1992, and was presently employed at Shawnee Country Club. Mr. Manth was a member of the American Legion, Stephen Sikora Post #1322, the New York State Big Buck Club, the Inner Harbor Yacht Club, of which he was Commodore in 1994, International Order of Blue Gavel, which consists of past commodores of yacht clubs, and was a former member of the Swiftwater Power Squadron and the Senior Citizens in both North Tonawanda and Honeoye, NY. Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved gardening, his cottage on Honeoye Lake, and boating. He was the brother of the late Burton (Mary) Manth and Gerald (Evelyn) Manth.He is survived by his wife, Arlene (nee Gorman) Manth; and a sister, Winifred (Erwin) Werth. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his beloved cat, Brandy, and three other cats, Chessie, Shawnee and Taffy. Sally A. Ferguson, age 83, of Amherst, on November 24, 2022. Sally was born to the late Arnold and Margaret Proefrock and is predeceased by her siblings, Dorothy (Paul) Chapman, and Robert (Betty) Proefrock. She will be greatly missed by her husband John and her children, Gary Geartz and Sherry (Daniel) Harlach. Sally leaves behind her cherished grandchildren; Katie, Sara, Scott (Amanda), and Kristen; as well as her great grandchildren Leo and Dalton. She leaves behind the Okun family, whom she loved dearly. She will also be greatly missed by several nieces and nephews, and her loving friends and neighbors.
Sally had a servant’s heart and spent much of her time volunteering at Journey’s End, Saint Christopher Outreach, and The Newman Center. Sally and John played an integral part in serving refugees at Journey's End by providing them with clothing and hygiene products. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling with John to the Caribbean, and spending time at the family cottage in Canada. Sally loved to cook for her family and cherished them above all else. Edd and Carole were married on April 6, 1968 in California. He graduated from Barker high school in '61 and after graduation enlisted in the Navy serving eight years as an aviation ordnance aircrew man on the P3 Orion. He always enjoyed saying he never served aboard a ship. He retired in 1999 after 30 years at Harrison Radiator (GM). Edd enjoyed sports, playing or watching, especially the Buffalo Bills.
Besides his wife of 53 years, he is survived by his sister, Barbara (Paul) Hammond; his brother, Phillip (Virginia) Kolbe; his nieces, Linda (Scott) Greer and Tara Heitzenrater; his great-niece, Abigail (Heitzenrater) Haag; great-nephews, Craig Heitzenrater, Mark Woodard and Christopher Woodard. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Ellen Craine; and nephew, P. J. Hammond.

Patricia M. Fox, Age 81, of North Tonawanda, passed away suddenly on January 13, 2022. Patricia was a
life long resident of North Tonawanda, and graduated from North Tonawanda Senior High School.
Patricia and her husband used to go out dancing every Saturday night, and she greatly looked forward to
it. Above all Patricia cherished her family and took pride in taking care of them. She was a dedicated
housewife who always put her family first.

Austin loved literature and was an avid reader. Austin has one of the kindest hearts and was always willing to help others. He loved being an uncle and enjoyed every moment with his beautiful nephew. Austin will forever be remembered and missed by all of his friends & family.
