Funeral Services for North Tonawanda Man This Afternoon.
NORTH TONAWANDA, Aug. 3.- William L. Roggow, 67 years old, died suddenly Saturday at his home at 186 East Felton street. Mr. Roggow was born In the former village of La Salle and had been a resident of North Tonawanda for the past 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Ida; one daughter, Mrs. Frederick A. Otto; three brothers, Albert G. and August, all of North Tonawanda, and Lewis of Buffalo; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Strasburg of Niagara Falls and Mrs. Frank Foster of North Tonawanda. Mr. Roggow was a member of the Men's club of Salem Evangelical church. The funeral will be held this afternoon at the late residence, with Rev. Andrew Hils officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery, Niagara Falls boulevard.

P. J. Roggow Dies At Firemen's Home
The body of August P. J. Roggow, 74, a former resident of the towns of Niagara and Wheatfield, who died at the Firemen's Home in Hudson, N.Y., Saturday, will be brought to Tonawanda for funeral services and burial. Rites will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Hamp Funeral Home, 37 Adam street. Rev. H. G. Kleiner of the Redeemer Lutheran church will conduct the services and interment will be in Elmlawn.
Mr. Roggow was born in the LaSalle section of Niagara Falls, which was a part of the Town of Niagara at the time. He later took up his residence in a cottage on the Niagara river, a short distance from the North Tonawanda city line, working in the Tonawandas as a carpenter for many years. He was a member of the LaSalle Exempt Firemen's association. He became an inmate of the Firemen's Home in June, 1937.
Mr. Roggow is survived by three brother, Lewis of Buffalo; Henry of Marenisco, Mich., and Albert of North Tonawanda, and a sister, Mrs. Rose Foster

Walter E. Strasburg, who received a Purple Heart while serving in the U.S. Army during World War I, died in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Monday (Feb. 24, 1986). He was 89. A resident of Cayuga Drive, he was born in Niagara Falls' LaSalle area. Strasburg was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz and a charter member of the John J. Welch Post 381 American Legion. He worked at the Nabisco Co. for 49 years as a supervisor until retiring in 1966. He is survived by his wife, Dollie L. (Hartman} Strasburg and many nieces and nephews. Three sisters and five brothers died earlier. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. TOWN OF NIAGARA —
Lillian L. (Holland) Roszel, longtime resident of the Town of Niagara, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012 after a lengthy illness. She was 92. She was born in Niagara Falls on October 15, 1920, a daughter of the late Albert and Amalie (Strassburg) Holland.
She attended local schools and then worked for many years as a nurses aide at several hospitals, retiring from Mt. St. Mary's Hospital. Mrs. Roszel was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church, and a member of the Niagara Active Hose Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She dedicated much of her life to helping others including taking the time to help raise her daughter Gail's two children, Mark and Jimmy.
Mrs. Roszel is survived by two sons, Claire (Jeri) and Ronald (Grace) Roszel of Jacksonville, FL; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Arthur Roszel (1995); and her daughter, Gail Linnane (2004).

She liked being at her cottage in Canada.She married her husband Charles L. Krell on June 23, 1934. He predeceased her on May 8, 1984. NIAGARA FALLS — Franklin Phillips, of Niagara Falls, died on Monday, December 26, 2011 in Crestwood Health Care Center. He was 92. He was born in Niagara Falls, New York, on October 25, 1919, the son of Franklin and Lydia (Strasburg) Phillips.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II. Mr. Phillips retired from E.I. DuPont Company in 1972 as a painter. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping in his younger years, tinkering in his garage and reading.

Mr. Phillips was predeceased by his wife, Cecelia, on November 28, 2009. Survivors include four children, Lydia (Howard) Rowe of Sanborn, Mary Herrington of Sanborn, Edith (Larry) Potts of Barker and Michael Phillips of Niagara Falls; two sisters, Betty Robbins (James) and Marion Arnold (Robert), both of Niagara Falls; thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by siblings, David Phillips, Edgar Phillips; Lillian Moriarty, Jeanette McAlee, Grace Sabin, Dorothy Kreutinger and Edith Krell.

Marion H. (Phillips) Arnold, 95, of Wheatfield, NY, passed from this life on February 7, 2020.  Born on April 17, 1924 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Lydia (Strasburg) Phillips.  

Marion was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, attended local schools and graduated from LaSalle High School.  On December 15, 1951, she married Robert C. Arnold.  He predeceased her on January 11, 2020.  Marion was baptized and raised in Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee with her sisters as well as bingo.  Above all, Marion loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marion is survived by 5 children, Robert (Marsha) Arnold, Cherille Panza, John (Donna) Arnold, Thomas (Cynthia) Arnold and Barbara (Blake Kobee) Basden; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Betty (late James) Robbins and several nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Mooney.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 8 siblings.

She retired in 1986 from Bell Aerospace.
Mrs. Luick was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church and was a member of the Bell Aerospace Girls Club and its Quarter Century Club.
Her husband of 49 years, Earl E., died in 2000.

NIAGARA FALLS - Earl M. Strasburg, a retired traffic controller for Occidental Chemical Corp., died Sunday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 77. He was born in Niagara Falls and attended local schools. Mr. Strasburg was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was a former member of the LaSalle Yacht Club. His wife, Jane Kilmer Strasburg, died in 2002. Surviving are a daughter, LuAnn Via of Chicago, and a sister, Gladys Beningo of Spring Hill, Fla. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 A.M. Gladys A. (Strasburg) Beningo, 92, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on May 2, 2022 at Schoellkopf Health Care Center.  Born on September 13, 1929 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Grose) Strasburg and the wife of the late Raymond Beningo.

 
Gladys graduated from LaSalle High School in 1947.  She earned her Bachelors Degree in 1951 and her Masters Degree in 1958, both in Elementary Education.  She was employed as a school teacher for Huth Road School in the Grand Island School District, retiring in 1985.  Following her retirement, Gladys and her husband moved to Springhill, FL until Raymond passed away in 2015.  She came back to Niagara Falls to be with her family. Gladys was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. 

 
Gladys is survived by nieces and nephews; LuAnn (Tom) Via, Kathy (James Sikorski) Majka, Allan Strasburg, Laura Sutton, Heidi (Paul) Mollo, Karyn Beningo and Steven Beningo and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by siblings, Allan Strasburg, Arlene Luick, Earl Strasburg and Wray Strasburg.

Joan Arlene (Holland) Brown, a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, died on Saturday, December 20, 2014 in Niagara Hospice House. She was 81. She was born in this city on July 31, 1933, the daughter of the late Lester and Dorothy (Koburn) Holland Davis.

She attended local schools and was a graduate of the former LaSalle Jr./Sr. High School on Buffalo Avenue. As a young woman she worked for American Secretarial Services. She then went on to earn her LPN and worked for St. Mary's Hospital when it was on 6th Street. She retired from Staff Builders, Niagara Falls traveling to the local nursing homes. She also worked for Bernie Stack.

Mrs. Brown loved this special time of year, Christmas. She looked forward to celebrations with family and friends, decorating the house and the peacefulness of the season. When time permitted with her busy schedule, she enjoyed crafting and painting. She was a longtime member of the former Epiphany Episcopal Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter "Bill" Lee Brown, Sr. Surviving are five children, Leslie (Jernigan) Searle of Niagara Falls, Lynne Jernigan of Binghamton, Phyllis (Jernigan) Vickers of Niagara Falls, Candace Jernigan Brasswell of Alabama and Walter "Bill" Jr., of Tampa, FL; sister-in-law, Dorothy Batterson; grandchildren, Patrick Jernigan, Laureanne Harrington, Jolene McBee, Sandy Weston, David Weston, LeAnne Bowden, Joshua Vickers, Christa Hodgkins and Alisia Hulon; nephew, Rodney (Rochelle) Batterson; nieces, Lisa Batterson and Linda (Charlie) Huchinson; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Richard Middaugh, Michael Davis and Douglas Davis; and a granddaughter, Amanda Vickers.

Barry James McAlee age 69 a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, entered into rest on Sunday December 25, 2016, surrounded by his loving family while under the expert care at the Niagara Hospice House. Barry, was born on December 11,1947. He was the son of the late Paul C. and Jeannette (Phillips) McAlee. He will forever be “ our Christmas Angel”.

He served two consecutive, heroic tours in Vietnam. He was 17 when he graduated boot camp as a platoon leader. He crossed over the international date line while turning 18 on his way to Vietnam and made Sergeant at 19. He spent 3 years active duty serving the Army in the 1st Air Cavalry division from 1965 to 1968. During the war he was a helicopter door gunner and served as a sergeant in the infantry. He earned sharpshooter and expert marksman for both M-14 and M-16 rifles. He earned the prestigious Distinguished Flying Cross, The Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Two Overseas Service Bars, Army Achievehment Medal with Ten Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Infanty Badge. Barry served his country honorable and was a true warrior and survivor. Barry was a chemical operator at Niacet Corpartion in Niagara Falls for 23 years, retiring in 2010. He was a member of United Steel Workers Union, Local Chapter #458 and member of the Niacet Men's Club. Previously he was employed by Power City Trucking for 11 years. Barry had his own unique brand of humor. Barry enjoyed watching Sci-fi movies, boxing matches, and NFL football. He was a huge Elvis fan and would listen for hours to his vast collection of Elvis recordings. Barry learned to appreciate the beauty of a flower blooming. He loved to be outdoors and putter around in the yard and tend to his garden filled with gnomes from his grandchildren. Barry was a loving husband, father and Grandfather (Papa) and will be forever loved, missed and held close by all of us. He survived by his loving wife Karen R. McAlee, his daughters Lisa (Phil) Capell , Stephanie (Jim) Leathers, and Kari McAlee (Jeff) Miller, mother in law Ellen Retton and his grandchildren Justin, Isabella, Ryan and “baby girl” Miller expected in 2017. He also survived by his two sisters Marjorie (McAlee) Grisanti of and Beth (McAlee) McLaughlin and numerous loving nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brothers, Paul McAlee, Thomas McAlee, David McAlee, and his sister Kathryn Meyers. TOWN OF CAMBRIA — Katherine A. "Katie" Lewis, age 69, of the Town of Cambria, died on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at her residence, under the loving care of her family and Niagara Hospice. Katie was born on February 21, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late David W. and Marion A. (Strablow) Phillips and was a lifelong resident of the Town of Cambria.

She was a 1958 graduate of Wilson High School and a graduate of Bryant & Stratton. For many years she worked on her family's farm and took their produce to the Niagara Falls City Market. Katie married James Lewis on June 8, 1963.

Katie was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at North Ridge. She was an avid gardener, who spent countless hours on her lawn and in her flower gardens, as well as an avid bowler. Katie loved spending time with her family and enjoyed taking rides around western New York to take in the beautiful scenery.

In addition to her husband, James, she is survived by her children, Steve (Cathy) Lewis of the Town of Cambria and Tammy (Mark) Reeson of the Town of Hartland; her grandchildren, Steven and Sarah Lewis, and Mark Reeson; a brother, David (late Joan) Phillips of Ransomville; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, James Reeson.
