John Williams aged 96 years on
of the oldest residents of Niagara
County died during the past week at
his home on the Creek Road between
here and Bergholz and was buried
yesterday.
The deceased was a wealthy farmer
having come to this country over
sixty years ago, settling on the farm
where he died. He leaves three children
John and August of Bergholz and
Mrs. Kent of Lockport .
Mr. Williams in his younger days
took a prominent part In the affairs
of the county and is well known to
the older inhabitants of Western
New York.

John Williams died at his residence
on the Boulevard one mile west of
Bergholz, Sunday afternoon at the age
of 81 years. He emigrated with his
parents and numerous other German
families in 1843 locating near the
west end of the county which they
named Bergholz where at that time
t h e r e was nothing but wilderness and
uncultivated lands.
He leaves his wife to whom he was
married in 1858, they having celebrated
their golden wedding seven years ago;
two sons, August at home and E. H.
Williams, at Lockport, two daughters,
Mrs. John Reitzlaff, of Los Agneles,
Cal., and Mrs. Chas. A. Kandt, of Lock-
port, twelve grand children and one
great grand child.
The funeral will be held on Thurs-
day afternoon at the house at 1:30 and
at 2:30 from the Lutheran church at
Bergholz, Rev. Stark officiating. Inter-
ment will be in the German Lutheran
cemetery at Bergholz.

Funeral of Retired Farmer Will Be Held on Tuesday.
BERGHOLTZ, Jan. 24.-Albert(?) Williams, 69 years old, retired farmer and one of the best known residents of the Bergholtz district, died late yesterday afternoon at the family home on the Falls-Buffalo boulevard. Mr. Williams, was seized with a heart attack and was ill only a few hours. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home and at 2:30 from the Holy Ghost church, Bergholtz, of which he was a member. Interment will he in Holy Ghost cemetery.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Mrs. Auguste Mueller Williams; one daughter, Mrs. Henry Siegman, of St. Johnsburg; one son Arthur, of this village; three grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Mary Williams, of Niagara Falls; one brother, Edward, of Lockport, and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Kandt, of Lockport, and Mrs. Helena Retzlaff, of California.

The funeral services for August H. Williams, 69, which were held Tuesday afternoon, was one of the largest funerals ever held in this village. The church was filled to its capacity, About 700 attended. Services were held from. the home on the Buffalo-Falls boulevard at 2 o'clock and at 2.30 from the Holy Ghost Lutheran church. Bearers were Paul Mueller, William Mueller, Edward Mueller, Edward Kandt, Arthur Dubois and William Williams. Flower bearers were Edward Walck, Ervin (sic) Walck, Alfred Walck and Edwin Dubois. Burial was in Holy Ghost cemetery on Binckley street.

Former Niagara Resident Passes
TOWN OF NIAGARA, Sept. 13-Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Helena Williams Retzlaff, in Los Angeles, Calif., on Thursday, September 7. She is survived by one daughter, Miss Lydia Williams; one son, Emil Williams, of Los Angeles; one brother, Edward H. Williams, of Lockport, and one sister, Mrs. Louise Williams Kandt, also of Lockport. She was a sister of the late August William J. Williams and the late William Williams, of the Niagara Fall (sic), boulevard, Town of Niagara.
Mrs. Retzlaff was 75 years old and was well known in Niagara county where she had resided for many years. She was a daughter of the late John Williams and Mary Williams. The latter died about four years ago at the age of 96 years.
Mrs. Louise Kandt and her daughter Mrs. Erna Kandt Hanning, of Lockport, visited the deceased last winter in California and returned home early this spring, They both left for California last Friday and will attend the funeral of Mrs. Kandt's sister, Mrs. Retzlaff.

ADAMS - Mrs. Alice Achterberg, 90, of 115 E. Church St., widow of Charles Achterberg, died this morning in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where she had been a patient two weeks. The funeral is tentatively set for Thursday afternoon at the Brunner Funeral Home, North Tonawanda. Burial will be in North Tonawanda. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John R. (Lorna) Price, Adams, with whom she had lived 17 years, and Mrs Jacob P. (Caroline) Dexheimer, North Tonawanda; four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Born. William F. Williams, 40, Born in North Tonawanda, Succumbed Last Night at His Home on Ward Road, St. Johnsburg

William F. Williams, 40 years old, one of the best known residents of the town of Wheatfield, died last night at his home on the Ward road, St. Johnsburg. His death followed a heart attack, with which he was stricken yesterday morning.

Mr. Williams was born in North Tonawanda 40 years ago and had been a resident of Wheatfield for the last 30 years. He had been clerk of the town for the past ten years. He was a member of the St. Johnsburg Fire Department. He was a Democrat politically.

Surviving are a wife, Louise; two sons, Edward and Roger Williams; a daughter, Miss Evelyn Williams; five brothers, Edmund and Walter Williams, St. Johnsburg, Alvin Williams, Newfane, Marcus and Helmuth Mellentine, St. Johnsburg, and four sisters, Mrs. Charles Achterburg, Pekin, Mrs. Louis Holland and Mrs. Louis Newman, North Tonawanda and Mrs. Henry Broecker, St. Johnsburg.

Jeanne (Holland) Ransom, a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home, Schoellkopf Health Center. She was 94. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on March 29, 1922, the daughter of the late Herman and Amelia (Williams) Holland. She attended schools and graduated in Pennsylvania, moving to Niagara Falls in 1964.

Mrs. Ransom was employed as a key punch operator for the Niagara Falls Board of Education and later for Chisholm Ryder, retiring in 1988. Following her retirement, she volunteered for HANCI as a home companion until 2010. She was a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, serving with its Altar Guild and was a member of the church choir.

As a young lady, she loved to play tennis and dance. She will be fondly remembered as a devoted family person, with a bright sense of humor and contagious smile.

Survivors include her two daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Ransom of Niagara Falls and Jean (Francis) DeMarco of Niagara Falls; grandchildren, Megan (Philip) Gross; Jessica and Amanda Moore; Joseph (Kim) DeMarco; Dr. Emily (Dr. Michael) Polischuk; Elizabeth and Laura DeMarco; two great granddaughters, Grace Jean and Adeline; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Susan (Paul) Moore, and siblings, Theodore; Harold; Carl and Mark Holland; Jacqueline Schimpf and Theodora Roper.

Friends may call Friday after 3:30 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where a closing prayer will be held at 8 PM Friday. Middleport- Mrs. Esther Marcks died unexpectedly at her home, 6350 Wolcottsville Rd, Wolcottsville. Born June 15th 1898, in the Town of Royalton, she was the daughter of Ferdinand and Mathilda Williams Pfohl. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville. Her husband, George F. Marcks died in 1964, and a son Richard died in 1952. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs Fred Hill of Medina, Mrs Joseph Lydston, and Mrs Joseph Licata both of Lockport, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Friends may call today and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. at the Wallace and Heath Funeral Home, 38 State Street, and Tuesday from 1 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church where services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM. NIAGARA FALLS — Arthur W. Milleville, 87, passed away on December 1, 2013, at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. He was born in Niagara Falls on July 30, 1926, the son of the late Arthur P. and Gertrude (Williams) Milleville.

Arthur graduated from the original LaSalle High School in 1944. He briefly attended Niagara University before being drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He served in the Army Aviation Engineers as a Corporal of the 808 Regiment in the Pacific-Asiatic Theater from December 26, 1944, until his honorable discharge on November 11, 1946. He was the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the Army Occupation Medal.

After his honorable discharge, Arthur attended Valparaiso University in Indiana and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor's degree in business administration, majoring in accounting and auditing. He held various jobs including Timekeeper at Wurlitzer, Internal Auditor at Bell Aircraft Corporation, Control Clerk at E.I. DuPont deNemours & Company, Accountant for the Chevy Division GM and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Chemical Division. He was an accountant and Administrative Assistant with the Department of State, Division of Cemeteries for Western New York for 29 years. After retirement he volunteered his services with SCORE through the Smal Business Administration.

Arthur was Past Commander and lifetime member of the American Legion Wheatfield Post 1451. He was a NYS American Legion Chairman for Graves Registration and past member of the Bergholtz Fire Company and Sanborn Fire Company Bands, the Kiwanis Club of LaSalle, the LaSalle Sportsmens Club, and the Amherst Male Glee Club.

Arthur was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in LaSalle and served as an usher and assistant scout master for their Troop 810. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and coaching his son in hockey. He enjoyed gardening and teaching his grandchildren the fine art of growing corn and pumpkins. He was also involved with the Inter-Club City Bowling League at Beverly Lanes for 20 years. Another passion he had was his family's German Culture. He belonged to the Wheatfield German Club and the Wheatfield Historical Society. Arthur loved history, reading books and sharing many stories of his younger life, helping with his family's dairy business.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha "Myra" (Smith) Milleville; his children, Bryce (Maryann) of New Fairfield, CT, and Kelly (Robert) Braham of Wheatfield, NY; four grandchildren, Bryce and Laura Milleville, Kyle and Kelsey Braham; sister-in-law, Patricia (late Dr. Matthew) Lanighan of Lockport; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Irma (late Robert) Read.

There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service with military honors on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 10 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 736 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Interment will be private in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery in the Town of Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Milleville's name to Grace Lutheran Church or Valparaiso University, 1700 Chapel Dr., Valparaiso, IN 46383. WHEATFIELD — Bernice E. Forsey (Williams), age 86, of Wheatfield, was called to her heavenly home on December 16, 2010 at ElderWood Health Care at Crestwood. Born March 30, 1924 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Arthur and Eleanor (Ferchen) Williams. A lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz where she was active in the choir, quilters and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Bernice was also a member of the Bergholz German Band, Bergholz Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Historical Society of North German Settlements in Western New York. During World War II, she worked at Bell Aircraft and later at the Carborundum Company, Abrasives division in Wheatfield. Bernice enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Charles Forsey; five children, Richard (Colleen), Forsey, Bob (Marsha) Forsey, Jim Forsey, Marilyn (Andy) Dawe and Carol (Scott) Misener; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Olive Chaddock, Elaine (Al) Eichin and June (Mike) Stenzel; and brother-in-law, Elmer Forsey.

FacebookTwitterredditOlive Marie "Ollie" Chaddock (Williams), 93, passed peacefully in the company of her beloved sister, Elaine, at her residence in Port Orange, FL. Ollie was born in Niagara Falls, NY, to Eleanor (Ferchen) and Arthur Williams.
The family came to Florida in 1960 where Ollie continued raising her family and began a 15-year career as an accountant clerk and cashier for the Brevard County School Board. She has been a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for 40 years.
Second to Ollie's love for her family and faith was her passion for gardening. Mounds of coffee grounds and love went into making the backyard of her longtime residence in Titusville an earthly paradise. Ollie also enjoyed traveling about the country as well as abroad.
Ollie is survived by her three children, Thomas, Amy, and Paul Jr.; three grandchildren, Nicole, Chad, and Michelle; and her two sisters, Elaine Eichin and June Stenzel.

Believed to have been the victim of a heart attack, Benjamin
Achterberg, 23 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs,
Charles Achterberg, Tonawanda Creek road, town of Amherst,
sank in the Barge Canal while swimming with a number
of other young people at Pickard's Bridge early last evening.
The body was recovered IS
minutes later by members of the
North Amherst Fire company, of
which the youth was a member.
An inhilator was Used by the
First Aid squad. of the Eggertsville
Fire company in an unsuccessful
attempt to restore him.
Physicians said that no water
was found in the man's lungs,
giving rise to the belief that he
was the victim of a heart attack.
Not Expert Swimmer
Achterberg was not an expert
swimmer,..He had been swimming
with other youths of Pickard's
Bridge in the canal all Summer
and was considered able to hand-
le himself fairly well in the
aquatic sport.
The point where he went down
was less than 1,00 feet from the
Achterberg home and only a short
distance east of the bridge over
the canal in the small settlement.

Besides his parents the youth
is survived by two brothers,
Leonard and Maynard, at home,
and two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Dexheimer,
town of Wheatfield, and
Lorna, at home.
Medical examiner Charles E
Long was called. The body was

Adam street. Dr. Long has not
issued a certificate of death.

Ziemendorf, 78, died Friday (Dec. 25, 1992) in Sisters Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Niagara Falls, the longtime Town of Tonawanda resident served in the Marine Corps during World War II. A retiree of Kenworthy Graphic Services of Buffalo, Ziemendorf also worked for Moore Business Forms and Manhardt Printing.
He was a past president of the Buffalo Litho Club and past treasurer of the National Association of Litho Clubs.
An avid sports enthusiast, he was a softball pitcher, as well as a coach for local amateur softball and basketball teams.
He was a former member of the Western New York and American Rose Societies and a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Hilda Muenkel; two sons, Mark of Los Altos, Calif., and Kurt of Rochester; a daughter, Carey Williams of Melrose, MA.; two brothers, Edwin and Louis, both of the Buffalo area; and three grandchildren.
Burial will be in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery.

NORTH TONAWANDA — Ruth M. Kureczka, age 82, of North Tonawanda, Sunday, October 23, 2011 in DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Ruth was a life-long resident of North Tonawanda and was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church.

She was a volunteer for the Carousel Society of the Niagara Frontier for many years. She was an usher at the Riviera Theater and loved to bowl, play games and cards.

She was the wife of the late John Kureczka who died in 1993. Dear mother Joan (Jesse) Kureczka-Fisher of CA, Kathy (Dan) McIntire of Virginia Beach, VA and the late Jack Kureczka. Sister of Dorothy Hinkley of AZ and Esther (William) Stoeckel of Wheatfield; aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Linda C. Mietz, age 81, died peacefully March 3, 2022 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. 

She was born December 6, 1940 in Medina to Elmer and Mildred (Bruning) Leffler and was a life-long resident of this area.  Linda was a long-time member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church where she also taught Sunday school for many years.  She was a very devoted wife and old-school homemaker who took great pride in spending time with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren.  Linda was a great cook and baker and loved the simple joys of life such as going on her daily trips to Tim Hortons or Candy Apple to socialize with her husband and all the ‘regulars’ while sharing coffee and perhaps a meal.  Mrs. Mietz was predeceased by her sister: Virginia Messore. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Donald, her daughters: Molly (Stephen) McIntyre of Wolcottsville, Jane (Christopher) Harding of MI, her brothers: Stephen (Bette) Leffler of W. Shelby, Timothy (Tina) Leffler of NC, 4 grandchildren: Rachel, Justin, Bryan, Brooke as well as several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St.-Middleport, TUESDAY from 1-3 where her Funeral Service will be held immediately following visitation at 3 pm. 

Interment will be held in St. Michael’s Cemetery at a later date.

Stephen Arthur Leffler, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022 due to complications of emergency surgery. He was 83 years old.
 
Born to the late Elmer and Mildred (Bruning) Leffler on June 21, 1938, Stephen lived his entire life in the West Shelby area where he grew up with and later married Bette (nee Caleb) 63 years ago.  
 
Stephen is survived by his wife, Bette; five children, Michael Leffler, Michelle Leffler, Amy (Arthur) Washak, Darcy (Ed) Kaminski and Heidi Kuhmann; grandchildren, Stephanie Prawel, Andrew Washak, Kari (Joseph) Root, Katie, Madison and Zoe Kaminski, Jacob and Melanie Kuhmann; and great-grandsons, Barrett and Owen Root. Steve was predeceased by his two sisters, Virginia Messore and Linda Mietz. He is survived by his brother, Timothy (Tina) Leffler of North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Frank Messore and Donald Mietz; sister-in-law, Karen Larson; and many nieces and nephews.
 
Steve worked for many years at GM Harrison Radiator in Lockport, retiring as a maintenance foreman. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Middleport. Steve was a talented remodeler and woodworker.  In addition to his own home, he lent a hand to each of his children to build, repair or remodel their homes. He also created elaborate birdhouses and he was very proud of his over the top Christmas light displays. His favorite saying was no sweat, no big deal.
 
Steve took his family on camping trips for a number of years and then traveled throughout the US with Bette, Shelley and Stephanie logging many miles and adventures. He was always ready for a trip, especially to St. Pete’s Beach and the Outer Banks where we would meet up with family. Steve was blessed to have all his family nearby and considered eight at the dinner table a normal day, not a special occasion. He had a special relationship with granddaughter, Stephanie and with his caretaker cat, Pippi. 
 
A highlight every year for Steve was his birthday and Father’s Day clambake hosted by Amy and Art. At one of these parties it was famously stated “Steve Leffler, the greatest man I’ve ever known”. We think so. 
 
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 17th from 1:30-4:00pm immediately followed by a memorial service at 4:00pm at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Robert W. Werth, age 73, of Town of Niagara, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a lengthy illness. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on March 13, 1934 to the late Edwin and Hulda (Pfuhl) Werth. He was a life long member of St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Walmore, where he was President of the Church Council. Bob played in several local marching bands including the American Legion, Sanborn Fire Co., and the Bergholz German Band. His hobbies and interests included fishing, traveling with the Bergholz German Band and getting together with friends to play dominos and euchre. Bob is a U.S. military veteran, member of the American Legion, Town of Niagara Lions Club and the Sanborn Lions Club. He was employed at the former Marine Midland Bank in Sanborn (sic) and was later employed as an accountant at the N.F. Air Force Base retiring in 1986. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Dolores (Krull) Werth; a son, Michael Werth of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a daughter, Cheryl Werth (Troy Harrison) of North Tonawanda; step-brother, Russel (sic) Goeske (sic) of Niagara Falls; stepmother, Eleanor Craft of Sanborn; and several nieces and nephews. RANSOMVILLE - A 20-year-old nurse's aide, en route to work at Ransomville General Hospital, was killed Tuesday when the car in which she was riding slammed into a telephone pole in Balmer Road near here. Miss Betty Helen Werth, 20, of 2683 Lockport Rd., Sanborn, was pronounced dead on arrival at Ransomville General Hospital. She suffered internal injuries, a fractured skull and broken neck.
The driver, John W. Sagar. 19, of 1788 Balmer Rd., Ransomville, was charged by sheriff's deputies with driving at a speed not reasonable or prudent. He was treated for shock at the hospital. This was the 10th traffic fatality in county roads this year compared to 21, this time last year.

Asked For Ride
Authorities said Miss Werth had asked Sagar for a ride to work because she had car trouble. Deputies Clayton Schultz, Louis Reale and Sgt. James Faery said Sagar told them he was driving east in Balmer Road and was late for work. He is an orderly at the Ransomville hospital. The report said Sagar was driving 70 miles an hour when he stepped on the brakes to a slow down. The car went out of control, careened across the road, struck the utility pole and ended up in a plowed field. The mishap occurred about 3:05 p.m.
Miss Werth was a graduate of St. Peter's elementary day school and Niagara Wheatfield Central High School.

Miss Werth's survivors include her parents, Edwin and Hulda Werth, 2683 Lockport Road, Sanborn. and a brother, Robert Werth, Niagara Falls. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Pike and Jones Funeral Home and at 2:30 at 51. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore. Rev. Donald G. Rehkopf will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Gladys E. Hill, of Medina, passed away on Monday evening, September 29, 2008 at her home. Mrs. Hill was born in Wolcottsville, July 18, 1923, a daughter of the late George F. and Esther L. (Pfohl) Marks. On September 22, 1956, she married Fred W. Hill and she was a long time Medina resident. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by Harrison Radiator Division of GMC for 14 years and later by the Medina Central School District, as a teacher’s aide for 11 years, assisting in the elementary reading lab. She retired in 1981.An active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York, she served as a Past Senior Warden and Deanery of the Sunday school at St. John’s Church. She was a licensed Lay Reader, Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Vestry and choir and was active in the Episcopal Cursillo community. Mrs. Hill was a long time member of the Medina Tuesday Club and the Book Discussion Group at Lee-Whedon Memorial Library. She enjoyed square dancing, golf and traveling.Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Fred W.; three children, Mark D. Hill, Gary G. Ruth is survived by her husband, Joseph E. Lydston; her children Jeffrey Lydston, Michael (Colleen) Lydston, Linda (Charles) Nightingale and Sheri Lydston-Howard. A beloved husband and father, passed away on Tuesday,  March 7, 2023  at the age of 64 due to a brief illness.  He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 9, 1958, a son of the late Arthur and Myra [Smith] Milleville.
He was a graduate of LaSalle Senior High, Niagara University B.S. Chemistry, Loyola University M.S Chemistry and Pace University MBA.  Bryce started out as a chemist in Burt, NY and moved to Chicago, IL, before settling in New Fairfield, CT.   He had an accomplished career in the chemical industry for over 35 years that allowed him to travel the world.
Bryce had a passion for learning and always had an active project going on.  He did extensive work on his house, yard, cars, and boats. He mostly enjoyed spending time with family and friends while vacationing at Drakes Island, ME, camping in the Adirondacks and skiing in Vermont.   He loved being outdoors hunting, fishing or gardening.  An avid Bills and Sabres fan he always made time to come home and attend games with his family.
Those who knew him well will remember how much he loved life and people. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone.
Bryce is survived by his wife of 38 years Maryann [Dober] Milleville, his children Bryce (Rachel) Milleville and Laura Milleville, his granddaughter Olivia Milleville, a sister Kelly (Robert) Braham, also several nieces and a nephew.

Jerry W. Toellner, age 70, of Ramah, NM, went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 18, 2014. He died peacefully at his Gilbert, AZ home surrounded by family. He was born on July 12, 1943 in North Tonawanda, NY, where he was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 463 and worked over 20 years for Haseley Trucking.
Jerry was also a 50-year member of the St. Johnsburg Volunteer Fire Department there. He moved to Arizona in 1986 where he started his own business J & J Excavating & Grading. Once retiring, he moved to Ramah, NM, where he built his dream home in the tall pines of Timberlake Ranch. He was active in the community and served as a member of the board of directors responsible for all road maintenance, repair and snow removal. His greatest love was his family and his hobbies included hunting, fishing and watching NASCAR. Jerry never knew a stranger, he talked to anyone and was loved by everyone.
Predeceased by his daughter, Michele. He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Jill Pennington (Mike) and Stacy Smith-Mills (Mark); grandchildren, Shelby, Lacey, Dillon, Dalton, Ryan and Tyler; and sisters, Betty Brown and JoAnn Durick of North Tonawanda, NY.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 25th from 5-8 PM at Mountain View Funeral Home, 7900 E. Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85207. Born June 20, 1965 in Niagara Falls, NY to Myron (Mike) and June (Williams) Stenzel. He attended Holy Ghost Lutheran School and graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School in 1983. He was formerly employed at Greene & Kellogg, Superior Lubricants, and Norampac. Michael was an avid Buffalo Sabres fan as well as a NASCAR fan. His sense of humor was unique and enjoyed by many. Michael was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

Besides his parents, Michael is survived by his son, Michael Stenzel II, whom he cherished; brother, Jeff (Belinda) Stenzel of Bergholz; sisters, Sandy (Bob) Miller of Houston Texas; and Dawn Stenzel. Michael also leaves behind four nieces, Nicole, Allison, and Sarah Miller of Houston Texas, Riley Stenzel; and one nephew, Kyle Stenzel; two aunts, Ol Chaddock and Elaine (Al) Eichin both of Titusville, FL, several cousins and special family friend, Lois Handley.

Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Friday, October 2nd from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.

Services will be held Saturday, October 3rd at 10:30 AM in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, corner of Niagara Road and Luther Street in Bergholz, with the Rev. R.P. Vogeler, officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, or a charity of one's choice.

Notes:

Robert W. Kandt, 69, died Dec. 25, 2022 in the comfort of his home. He was born July 29, 1953 in Lockport, NY and graduated from Lockport Senior High School. He attended the University of Kentucky where he occasionally took classes and eventually graduated in 1983. Kandt was known for his love of the Buffalo Bills (Go Bills!), golf, baseball and most other sports (except definitely not soccer), witty headlines, appropriately placed curse words, beef on weck, and Top 40 hits of his time (inexplicably referred to as "oldies.") Kandt worked at 803 South, a local bar that was regrettably torn down to make room for the underpass on South Broadway. It was at this bar that he honed his musical trivia skills and met his wife. He went on to enjoy his work as Assistant Sports Editor and later as News Editor at the Lexington Herald-Leader, from which he retired in 2012. Kandt moved to Camarillo, CA in 2014, where he golfed as often as possible and volunteered at River Ridge Golf Club in his spare time. He returned to Lexington in 2017, enjoying the proximity of his children and grandchildren and continuing to golf as often as possible. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Catherine Dixon Kandt, daughter Sara (Matt) Galyon, grandchildren Asher and Sky, son Ben (Taylor) Starling, siblings Barbara Kandt, Karen (Mark) Meyer, Susan Kandt, and Charles (LuAnn) Kandt, as well as several nieces, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruth Meier Kandt. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Woodford Humane Society.
