Body of Bergholtz Man Borne to Grave by Grandchildren BERGOLTZ, Dec. 27. - Funeral services for John Walck, who died suddenly Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Helena Zimmerman, at Niagara street, were held Tuesday afternoon from the home of Mrs. Zimmerman at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 from St. James church on Rohr Street. The Rev. Otto Bruss officiated.
Mr. Walck is survived by five daughters, Mrs. August D. Mueller, Mrs. Apolonia (sic) Blumreich, of Niagara Falls, Amalia (sic) Pfuhl, of Walmore. and Mrs. Helena Zimmerman and Mrs. Lydia DeVantier, of this village, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. The deceased was a retired farmer and had resided in this vicinity all his life. His two sons, John Walck and Christ (sic) Walck, died a number of years ago. Burial was in St. James cemetery. The bearers were all grandchildren: Edward and Arthur Zimmerman, Theodore and Edwin Walck, Edward Mueller and A. Pfuhl.

NORTH TONAWANDA - John A. Walck, of the Lockport road, town of Wheatfield. died suddenly at his home yesterday. Mr. Walck was 67 years old and had resided on the farm where he died for the last 62 years. He was well known and a member of St Peters Lutheran Church at Walmore. SANBORN - Benjamin A. Walck, 88, of 2595 Lockport Road, died Thursday (Jan. 23, 1975) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.
A life-long resident of Sanborn, he had operated a farm on Lockport Road for most of his life. He was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church and had served as an elder at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Laura (Wendt) Walck of this town; two daughters, Mrs. Hubert (Norma) Pfohl and Mrs. Herbert (Emily) DuBois, both of this town; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Allen and Benjamin C. Walck.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore Road, with the Rev. Harold L Baum officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

the Niagara Falls boulevard,died yesterday
in the DeGraff Memorial hospital,
North Tonawanda, after a long
illness,
She was a lifelong resident here
and a member of St John's Lutheran
church, St Johnsburg. .Her husband,
the late William F. Gombert,
died July 5 of this year.
She is survived by two daughters,
Mrs. Albert Zastrow. Town of.Wheatfield,
and Mrs. Irwin Maerten. North
Tonawanda; a son, Norman, Town
pof Wheatfield, 11 grandchildren; a
sister, Mrs. Ella Mavis; three broth-
ers. AIbert and William Walck, Town
of Wheatfield,. and Gothold Walck,
Niagara Falls
The body is at the Hamp Funeral
home;,37 Adams street, Tonawanda,
where funeral services will be held
Friday at 2:30 p. m. The Rev Wal-

in St John's cemetery.

Gothold A. Walck, 83, of 611 Sixth St., a retired carpenter, died Sunday (May 8, 1966) in Memorial Hospital. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, he lived most of his life In this area. He formerly worked for Wright & Kremers' Inc. and Treadwell Construction Co., Niagara Falls, retiring from the latter company in 1957. Mr. Walck held a life membership in the carpenters union here. He was a 40-year member of Grace Lutheran Church, Cayuga Drive. Mrs. Alma DeVantier, 50 years old, of tho Niagara Falls boulevard, Bergholz, died Thursday afternoon at the DeGraff Memorial Hospital following an operation for appendicitis. She was a life-long resident of the Town of Wheatfield. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence and half an hour later at St Martin's Church, Bergholz. Rev. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, she had been a resident of Tonawanda for more than 70 yers, and was the wife of John W. Proefrock, who died in 1967, and mother of Vera H. Fischle, who died in 1955.

Mrs. Proefrock was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Dorcas Society of the church.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs Carl (Frances) Kaufmann of Kenmore and Mrs. Howard (Viola) Wein of Tonawanda, a sister, Mrs. Lydia Milleville of Niagara Falls, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Lockport - A retired president of a department store here, Ferdinand B. Williams, 76, of 23 Spruce St., died today (Jan. 3, 1961) at Lockport Memorial Hospital. Mr. Williams had been president of Williams Bros.vDepartment Store until his retirement about 10 years ago, He was born Sept. 15,v1884, in the town of Wheatfield,vson of the late Ferdinand A. and Lydia Williams. After education in rural schools there, Mr. Williams came to Lockport and entered the store business. He built up a general dry goods store in Main Street to a large department store. Edward and Anna Witcop of Niagara
Falls were before Judge
Harrington in North Tonawanda
city court again this morning on
a charge of public intoxication. It
was their third appearance on
this charge in six weeks.
Judge Harrington decided a
stretch in the county jail at Lock-
port might do some good, so he
gave them 60 days each. On a
similar appearance about three
weeks ago, they escaped with a
five-day sentence, each.
The Witcops were arrested Sat-
arday afternoon on Oliver street.

Locked In a cell at police headquarters
on a disorderly charge last night,
Louis Wittkopp, 21 years old, 1506 Linwood
avenue, .hanged himself with his
belt.. His body was found dangling
from the bars of his cell at 11:30 o'clock
last night by Patrolman Anson Lalone
when the officer made a round of the
cell room on the first floor to look over
the prisoners. Lalone cut. the belt
with his knife, releasing the youth, but
Wittkopp was dead.
Wittkopp had been arested at 5:30
o'clock yesterday afternoon by Patrolman
Raymond Confer. With him was
arrested his father, Albert C. Wittkopp,
52 years old, also of 1506 Llnwood avenue.
Confer said the father and son
had been fighting on the street at
Pierce avenue and Fifteenth street and
had been creating a disturbance. Resi
Residents
of the neighborhood had complained
to police.
When young Wittkopp ended his life
his father occupied the cell next to
his. The elder Wittkopp was asleep
when Lalone discovered his son's body.
Awakened by the comotion that resulted
in the discovery of. his son's
lifeless form hanging from the cell
bars, the father sensed that something
was wrong and asked police if his son
had ended his life. They magnanimously
assured him that he had not and
removed the father to a cell on the
upper floor, detaining him in headquarters
all. night as a precaution for
his own safety.
Coroner W. L. Draper said that young
Wittkopp had been dead only a short
time when discovered by Lalone. The
body was sent to the Dykstra funeral
chapel to be prepared for burial. Besides
his father, young Wittkopp is
survived by a bother, Carl, this city.

LYNDONVILLE — Alice E. Krisher, 82, of 10684 Mill Road, Lyndonville, died Sunday evening,July 20, 1997 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Krisher had been ill for the last 10 months. Bom Jan. 3, 1915 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Wittcop) Retzlaff. Mrs. Krisher grew up in the Niagara Falls area.She married Vernon W. Krisher on Feb. 9, 1933. She moved,together with her family, to the Lyndonville area in 1943 where she worked on the family farm and raised her family. She worked for two years during World War II at Bell Aircraft Mrs. Krisher was a member of the Ashwood Wesleyan Church of Lyndonville where she taught Sunday School at one time and was a member of the Missionary Society of the church. She was at one time a member of the Farm Bureau.She enjoyed embroidery and needle work and gardening. A favorite pastime was traveling. Together with her husband, she wintered in Florida.New York City and Atlanta, Ga.were favorite cities.Mrs. Krisher is survived by her husband of 64 years, Vemon W. I. E. Walck Stricken At Church Meeting
SANBORN-Irwin E. Walck, 50, of 2466 Saunders Settlement Road, this community, died Tuesday, (Sept. 27, 1966) while attending a meeting at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Walmore.
The Tri-Community Ambulance removed Mr. Walck to Mount St. Mary's Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Walck, a well-known farmer in this area, was born March 20, 1916, in Sanborn, a son of Frederick and Helene Mueller Walck and had operated the farm at the Saunders Settlement address. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, a member of the church council and an exempt member of the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. and a member of the Niagara County Extension Service and Farm Bureau. Survivors include his widow, the former Ruth Retzlaff; a son, Glenn Walck; two daughters, Nancy and Fay Walck, all at home; a brother. Edward Walck of Sanborn; two sisters, Mrs. William Walck and Mrs. Martin Pfohl, all of Sanborn. Another sister, Mrs. Elise (sic) Kroening, died in 1965. Norma A. Pfohl, age 99, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. She was born in the Town of Wheatfield, on April 25, 1915, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Laura [Wendt] Walck.

Mrs. Pfohl was a life long resident of the Sanborn area. She helped her husband Hubert run the family farm for many years. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church Walmore and loved spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Pfohl and her husband lovingly took care of their invalid daughter the late Karen Pfohl, who died in 1999.

She was the wife of the late Hubert F. Pfohl, who died in September of 2003. Mrs. Pfohl is survived by two daughters Beverly (Charles) Pendergast and Janet (David) Tober both of Sanborn, five grandchildren Mark (Nancy) Miller, Kristen (Johnny) Seawell, Rachel (Daryl) Haseley, Beth (Steven) Guidetti and Michael (Stephanie) Tober, ten great grandchildren Lauren, Ryan and Addison Miller, Brett and Jeremiah Seawell, Lauren and Riley Haseley, Emily Guidetti and Luke and Jane Tober. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Benjamin Walck, Emily DuBois and Allen Walck.

BENJAMIN C. WALCK JR.
SANBORN - Benjamin C. Walck Jr., 54, of 2617 Lockport Road, died Wednesday Mount St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
He was a native of the Town of Wheatfield and served during World War II with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Walck had worked for the New York State Highway Department for 15 years at the time of his death and was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church Walmore, Wheatfield American Legion Post 145 Amvets Post 26 of North Tonawanda, Civil Service Employees Association, and the American Federation of State, County, and municipal employees.
He is survived by his widow Lorena; four daughters Louise, Barbara, and Linda Walck of Sanborn, and Mrs. David (Marie) Shannon of Key, West, Fla.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Walck, and two sisters, Mrs. Hubert (Norma) Pfohl and Mrs. Herbert (Emily) DuBois all of Sanborn; and one grandson, three nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Harold L. Baum officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will be present at Rhoney Funeral Home, Hoover Road, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
The family said memorials be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

She was born in Niagara Falls, Aug. 13. 1898, daughter of the late August and Albertine (Walck) Mueller. She was active in church groups and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Mars, Pa.
Mrs. Heuer was the widow of the Rev. Louis Heuer, who died Jan. 16, 1983. He was a Lutheran minister at. various churches for over 65 years. She was the mother of the late Rev. Bernard Heuer and sister of Edward Mueller, who died Oct. 19, 1989.
Mrs. Heuer is survived by a daughter, Gertrude Kalk of Canton, OH; and seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Visiting hours are Saturday in Mars and at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. James Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road, where services be held at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Heuer, 91, died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 1989) in the St. John Lutheran Care Center in Mars, Pa. She and her husband moved to Pennsylvania from Columbus, OH, in 1975. Mr. Heuer died in 1983.

WHEATFIELD - Edward M. Mueller, 87, of Cayuga Drive Extension, died Thursday (Oct. 19, 1989) in Mount St, Mary's Hospital, Town Of Lewiston.
Mueller was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield.
He was a former Wheatfield town justice and was employed at the National Grinding Wheel Co. for 35 years. Be was a 50 year member of the Co-op Fire Insurance Corp. of Bergholz and served as its president for a number of years, as well as on the board of directors.
Mueller was actively involved with the Cataract Camera Club and was a recipient of many awards. He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church, holding numerous offices over the years. After retirement he involved himself in the activities of the Retired Men's Service Club and especially enjoyed singing in its chorus. He was a member of the North German Historical Society. He was also first president of St. James Lutheran Church congregation.
He was the husband of Edna (DeVantier) Mueller, who died in l984 and was father of the late Lowell Mueller.
Mueller is survived by daughters, Audrey Walck of Sanborn and Marilyn Mueller of New Orleans; sons, Milton Mueller of Sanborn and Myron Mueller of North Tonawanda; and a sister, Whilimine (sic) Heuer of Ohio; nine ,grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Edwin D. Walck, 94, a longtime farmer, died Monday (Dec. 17, 2001) in CrestWood Health Care Center after a brief illness. Walck was born in Wheatfield and attended St. James School in Bergholz. Before becoming a farmer, he worked as a machinist in Niagara Falls for 14 years. Most of his working years were spent operating farms in the Town of Niagara, Pendleton and Cambria. Among cash crops he harvested were wheat, corn, oats and hay. Walck moved to the health care facility three years from his home in Cambria. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn, where he served as an elder and trustee. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau and Niagara County Extension. He and his wife of 59 years, Frances Haseley Walck, enjoyed spending winters in Florida. She died in 1994. Walck also had enjoyed hunting on land he owned in northern Pennsylvania. Survivors include two sons, Donald of Pendleton and Darrell of Cambria; a daughter, Suzanne Milleville of Wheatfield; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday in St. Peter's Church, Walmore Road, Sanborn. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

NORTH TONAWANDA. Feb. 6-Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon for. Mrs. Sophia A. Getman, 23 years old, 299 Bryant street, who died at the DeGraff Memorial hospital Sunday night after a brief illness of pneumonia. She was born in Niagara Falls and had lived in North Tonawanda six months, having been a resident of Wheatfield before coming here.
Mrs. Getman is survived by her husband, Harry; a son, Jack Louis: parents, Mr. and Mrs. Williams F. Gombert; two sisters, Mrs. Albert Zatrow (sic) and Miss Alice Gombert, and a brother, Norman, all of the Town of Wheatfield.

LEWISTON - A memorial service will be held in Niagara Falls Wednesday at 11 a.m. for Mrs. Geraldine W. Orr, 58, of 5068 Woodland Drive, who died early Sunday (May 23, 1976). The Rev. Ronald D. Knapp will officiate at the service at Epiphany Episcopal Church, Main and Lockport streets. Private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Orr's body was found slumped in her car in the family garage Sunday morning by her husband, William W. Orr, a partner in the law firm of Orr, Brydges and Orr. Coroner Oscar Bell said the cause of death cannot be determined until he receives the results of a toxicology report in a week or 10 days.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, William W. Orr Jr., of Grand Island; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Orr of, Boulder, Colo., and Mrs. Stephen (Geraldine) Carpenter of Miami Springs; Fla.; her mother, Mrs. Gothold (sic) (Elizabeth) Walck of this city; one brother, Donald A. Donald A. Walck, 68, of North Tonawanda, a World War II veteran and retired Niagara County mental health director, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1993) in Buffalo General Hospital after a short illness.
He was born in Niagara Falls and was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School.
He served in the Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
Walck graduated from Niagara University in 1950 and received his master's degree in social work from the University of Buffalo in 1952.
He worked for Family and Children's Services in Niagara Falls before becoming a clinical social worker for the county.
He was promoted to director of adult day treatment and then director of mental health. He was made the permanent director in 1974. He retired in 1987 after 31 years of service.
Walck is credited with playing a prominent role in the development of mental health services in Western New York.
He was an avid fisherman and sailor.
He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Christopher of Arlington, Va.; and one granddaughter.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family

A native of Wheatfield, she was born Jan. 28, 1907, the daughter of Albert and Alma (Williams) DeVantier. She was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz. Mrs. Blank loved quilting, gardening and Bible study class. She was a homemaker most of her life.
She was the widow of John N. Blank, who died Jan. 19, 1969. Mrs. Blank is survived by a daughter. Dianne Retzlaff of Sanborn; a son, Darrell Blank of Sanborn; a brother, Alfred DeVantier of Sanborn; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Sandra Blank and was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz. The Rev. David B. Alfred A. DeVantier, 89, of Franklin Street, Sanborn, NY, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002, in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born in the Town of Wheatfield, November 7, 1913, the son of Albert and Alma [Williams] DeVantier. Mr. DeVantier was graduate of North Tonawanda High School. He was a supervisor for the Carborundum Co. for over 43 years, before retiring in 1978.
Mr. DeVantier was a life long member of St. James Lutheran Church and an exempt member of St. Johnsburg Fire Co. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Mr. DeVantier was the husband of the late Martha [Williams] DeVantier, who died in July of 1998.
He is survived by two sons Rev. Peter A. (Judith) DeVantier of Wellsboro, PA and Fredric B. DeVantier of Sanborn, NY, also survived by four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Mr. DeVantier was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.

He was born in Wheatfield and was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School.
DeVantier retired in 1978 from Carborundum.
He was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church and an exempt member of St. Johnsburg Fire Company. DeVantier enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
His wife, the former Martha Williams, died in 1998.

Williams also worked for Acheson Graphite Co. before working 14 years for E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. He also worked for 10 years in the City of Niagara Falls parking meter department. He worked at Bell for 15 years before retiring in 1971.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed golfing.

Genewich before becoming the loving mother of five children.  She enjoyed curling, tennis and traveling.

Eleanor Lydia (Norie) Garner, lifelong resident of LaSalle, died Sunday, December 14, 2014, at the age of 95. She had resided at the Greenfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lancaster for the last eight years. She was involved in the family business, R. Milleville Dairy, all of her working life. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls for 70 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lydia and Rudolph Milleville; her husband of 60 years, T. Howard Garner and two brothers, Robert and Herbert.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Gail (John) Lawler of Cheektowaga and son, the Rev. Dr. Kent Garner (Linda) of Fairport, NY; five grandchildren, Martin (Nancy), Timothy (Patricia) and John (fiancee Katie Palkowski) Lawler, Marc (Meghan) Garner and Kari (Jason) Carey, and four great-grandchildren, Zoe and Matthew Lawler, Brayden Garner and Jacob Carey.

Cherry Hill - Doris J. DeVantier, age 84, of Cherry Hill passed away after a short illness on December 5, 2017. She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Roger DeVantier for 62 years. Doris was born in Niagara Falls, NY the first child of the late Clarence and Esther Wittkopp. Doris and Roger moved to Cherry Hill in 1957. After passionately raising four children (some required more effort than others), she decided to return to school and earned her diploma as a licensed practical nurse. She helped numerous patients in the Delaware Valley. She was a charter member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church where she was active and energetic in the life of the church until her death. Doris enjoyed knitting, sewing, ceramics, choir singing, and travel. Most of all she was devoted to her family. Roger and Doris especially cherished the annual vacations at Sea Isle City, NJ. They educated us about God's most incredible gift - our Family. Her amazingly strong character taught us lessons that are being passed down to multiple generations through her children and grandchildren. Her last few years of life were challenged by numerous physical and emotional heartaches. She faced all of them with a positive attitude, grace, and exceptional strength that are a true inspiration to all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband Roger, daughter Joyce White and son Mark DeVantier. Left to cherish her memory include her children Wayne (Pam) DeVantier of Chesapeake, VA, Keith (Betty Jo) DeVantier of Cornelius, NC , daughter in law Vickie DeVantier of Richardson, TX, and son in law Don White of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Mr. Wittkopp was a former member of the Double TT Archery Club, and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and archer.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sharon (nee Siegfried) Wittkopp of North Tonawanda; a son, Carl R. Joan and Jack loved to travel around in their RV in their younger years and go on cruises with family later in life. In her free time, Joan loved to be outside working in her garden or playing her piano. She was dedicated to her church community and played organ and piano during Sunday services. After retirement, they lived in Florida during the winter months and loved to host family and friends in their Tarpon Springs home. In recent years, Joan looked forward to her Tuesday dinner dates with her granddaughter, Ashley.
Joan is survived by her six children, Dawn (Anthony) Kwiatkowski, David (Bobbi) Huntington, Mark Thomas, Judy (Bill) Wright, Jeffrey (Debbie) Thomas and Jon Thomas; her grandchildren, which include Christopher, Darren, Nicole, Ashley, Nathan, Aaron, Kristen, Suzy, Ryan, Justin, Kayla, Tammy and Jay; her siblings, Suzanne Lorenz, Carol Fulcomer and Dan (Christine) Krisher; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to the love of her life, Jack, she was also predeceased by her parents, Vernon and Alice Krisher; her son, Douglas Huntington; and daughter, Jacquie Atkinson; her siblings, Vernon "Bud" Krisher, Margie Mapes and Diane Palmer.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. Burial will be in the Lynhaven Cemetery, Lyndonville, NY.

She was born Sept. 12, 1913, in Wheatfield, the daughter of Adolf and Eleonore (Retzlaff) Haseley.
On Sept. 21. 1935, she married Arthur P. DuBois in Niagara Falls.
Mrs. DuBois was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. where she belonged to the Ladies Aide (sic) and Alter Guild for many years. She also was an exempt member of the Bergholz Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed needlepoint and crocheting.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Duane DuBois of Wheatfield; a daughter, Jane Andrews of Sanborn; two brothers, Melvin Walck of Farmington, Mich., and Norman Walck of Sanborn; two sisters, Helen Waldkoetter of North Tonawanda and Doris Toellner of Madison Heights. Mich.; two granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Chester Walck.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, where the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bergholz Fire Co. will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. today. The Rev. Philip N. Sallach will conduct services at 11 a.m. Monday in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Niagara Road and Luther Street. Interment will be in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield.

Norman A. Walck, retired water superintendent of the Town of Wheatfield, died Tuesday (July 18, 2000) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness. He was 77.
He retired in 1988 after 34 years with the Town of Wheatfield.
A World War II veteran of the Army Air Forces, Walck was a past commander of American Legion Post 1451 in Wheatfield.
He also had served as president of the Wheatfield Business Association and as secretary of the American Waterworks Association, and was on the board of the former Bergholz Fire Insurance Co.
Walck was an exempt member of the Sanborn Fire Company.
He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Audrey Mueller; a son, Robert of Chicago; a daughter, Cheryl Hayes of Lockport; two sisters, Helen Waldkoetter of North Tonawanda and Doris Toellner of Michigan; a brother, Melvin of Michigan; and three grandchildren.

WHEATFlELD - Chester E. Walck, 65, of Hoover Road, died Saturday. (Dec. 5, 1992) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston. He was born in Wheatfield on Dec. 22, 1926, the son of August and Eleanor Walck. He was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield and a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church on Walmore Road, where he also was a past trustee.
Walck worked, at the Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors in Lockport for 34 years, retiring in 1989. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Wheatfield Republican Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and family life.

Helen W. Waldkoetter (Gath) (nee Walck) of North Tonawanda, was taken by Jesus to her Heavenly home on December 2, 2008 while in Niagara Hospice House, after a 12 year courageous battle with cancer. Helen was a graduate of the Buffalo General School of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse in the Obstetrics Unit at DeGraff Memorial Hospital until the early 1970’s. In the early 1980’s she began a career as a much loved tour escort in the travel industry as a co-founder of, The Way to Go Tours. She was a very active and devoted member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and for many years she worked for the Niagara County Board of Elections. She was the daughter of the late August and Eleaner Walck and was the wife of the late Irving Gath. NIAGARA FALLS — Howard Edward Phillip Walck, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at the age of 94, in Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, Ontario. He was born in the Town of Wheatfield, on December 30,1917, the son of the late Felix and Agatha (Retzlaff) Walck.

Howard attended St. Peter's Lutheran School and church where he served as a Trustee. He graduated from Cornell Agricultural School. Howard was the co-owner and operator of the former Walck's Dairy from 1935 until 1971. He then worked with the Niagara County Highway Department until his retirement. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida, where he was a member and elder of the Christ Lutheran Church and his summers at his cottage in Canada. Howard enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing cards with his dear friends.

He was the husband of the late Lillian (Retzlaff) Walck, they were married in June of 1939, she predeceased him on April 26, 1978. Howard is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Hough) Walck. They where married on May 17, 1979. Three sons, Howard (Shirley), Douglas (Susan), Dennis (Judy) Walck; eight grandchildren, Brent (Andrea), Bruce (Jennifer) Walck, Jennifer (Curt) Muma, Craig (Jessica), Ashleigh and Phillip Walck, Kari (Rob) Corsaro, Adam (Amber) Walck; three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Alyssa and Robbie; one sister, Jennis (late Harold) Pankow; three step-sons, Gordon (Linda), Steven (Gabrielle) and Peter (Lori) Hough; four-step grandchildren, Andrew (Lee) Hough, Michelle (Jayson) Millson, Kyle and Benn Hough; three great-grandchildren, Cooper, Abigail and Isabelle Hough; also many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Bruce Walck.

WHEATFIELD - Alice B. (Retzlaff) Walck, age 87, of Wheatfield, was called peacefully to her heavenly home, to be with her Lord and Savior on October 16, 2012 at her residence. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, on July 22, 2012, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lily (Pfuhl) Retzlaff. Alice attended St. Peter's Lutheran School in Walmore and was a 1943 graduate of LaSalle High School. She was employed at the former Bell Aircraft and later at the Carborundum Company - Bonded Abrasives division in Niagara Falls, until her retirement in 1983. Alice was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church, Wheatfield, where she was with the St. Peter's Quilters. She was also a member of the Ransomville Seniors and enjoyed gardening, flowers and traveling. Survivors include her brother, Kenneth (Dianne) Retzlaff of Wheatfield; sister-in-law, Lois Retzlaff; eight nieces and nephews, Debra (Ted) Sheehan, Brian (Sandra) Retzlaff, Gary Retzlaff, Randy Retzlaff, Sandra (Steven) Lang, Carol (Leonard) Binns, David (Allison) Retzlaff and Dale (Lisa) Retzlaff; twenty great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-nephew. WHEATFIELD - Willis S. Retzlaff, who served as town assessor for 27 years and was active in community and church affairs, died of a heart attack Saturday in his home. He was 78.
Mr. Retzlaff was born in Wheatfield and attended local schools. He served in the Air Force and was a member of Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion.
He was a lifelong farmer and a skilled carpenter who built several homes in the area.
He was town assessor from 1972 to 1999 and the following year was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals. He had been president of the Niagara County Assessors Association and an officer of the New York State Assessors Association.
Mr. Retzlaff was an active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as president, elder and financial secretary. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the cemetery committee.
He was a charter member and past president of the Wheatfield Lions Club and was serving as treasurer at the time of his death.
He was named Lion of the Year in 1991 and won two other Lions awards: the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1994 and the Robert Uplinger Distinguished Service Award in 1998.
He was a charter member of the Wheatfield Republican Club; member and past president of the Wheatfield Business Association; treasurer of the Wheatfield Family Picnic Committee; a former member of the Bergholz German Band; a member of the town Historical Society; and a volunteer for Kids Voting.
He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Lois Hassan; a daughter, Debra Sheehan of Bergholz; a son, Randall of Wheatfield; a sister, Alice Walck of Sanborn; a brother, Kenneth of Wheatfield; and six grandchildren-.

Willis Sherman Retzlaff

Willis Sherman Retzlaff was born on June 7,1927 to Arthur and Lily (Pfuhl) Retzlaff. He was baptized on June 19, 1927 and confirmed on April 14, 1940. Willis was united in marriage to Lois Hassan on September 8, 1951. They were blessed with two children, Debra and Randall.
Willis was a life long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where he served as President of the Congregation, financial secretary, Elder and presently as Chairman of the Cemetery Committee.
Willis farmed for many years then went into carpentry and built many homes in the area. He was elected Assessor for the Town of Wheatfield and served in that capacity for 27 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a charter member, past President and currently served as Treasurer of the Wheatfield Lions Club. He was named Lion of the year in 1991, received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1994 and the Robert Uplinger Distinguished Service Award in 1998. He was a charter member of the Wheatfield Republican Club, member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens, member and past President of the Wheatfield Business Association and treasurer of the Wheatfield Family Picnic Committee, a former member of the Bergholz Band, member of the Historical Society, was a volunteer for Kids Voting each year, was a former President of Niagara County Assessor's Association, a former officer of the New York State Assessor's Association, served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the American Legion-Wheatfield Post 1451, member of the Wheatfield Zoning Board of Appeals.
Willis enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and helping anyone in need.
On Saturday, August 20, 2005, at home, unexpectedly Willis was called to be with His Lord.

Ken was a farmer all his life, a member of the Wheatfield Zoning Board, then elected eight terms as a Wheatfield Town Councilman, serving for 32 years, and as Deputy Supervisor. He was a member of the Wheatfield Republican Club, was a trustee at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, and a member of the building committee of the new addition of the church. Ken enjoyed golfing, hunting, and spending time at the cabin.Survivors include his loving wife; six children, Brian (Sandra) Retzlaff, Gary Retzlaff, Sandra (Steven) Lange, Carol (Leonard) Binns, David (Allison) Retzlaff, Dale (Lisa) Retzlaff; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Edgar William Walck, age 94, of the Town of Wheatfield, NY, was called peacefully into the presence of the Lord, at his daughters home in Florida on December 6, 2016. Born in the Town of Wheatfield on November 28, 1922, he was the son of the late William and Selma Walck. He was a member of the First Assembly of God, in Niagara Falls, where he served on the church board and building committee. Edgar played the tuba in both the Bergholz and Sanborn Fire Company's bands, and the church orchestra for many years. He was devoted to serving the Lord, owned and operated a dairy farm in Sanborn, was an avid hunter, farmer, gardener, drove truck until he was 86, and enjoyed traveling. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Elva Rose (Milleville) Walck; children, Mark (Janice) Walck of Sanborn, Carl Walck of Scio, Laurie Walck of Sanborn, Brent Walck of North Tonawanda, Kelly Walck of Amherst and Gail (Tim) Johnston of Palm Harbor, FL; grandchildren, Tara Walck-Henry, Shanna Hackett, Christa Eodice, Carl Walck, Jr. and Hannah Johnston; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Evan and Brody Eodice, Luke and Ellis Henry, Cooper and Landon Hackett; and many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by two sisters, Irma Haseley and Gladys DeVantier. Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Friday (December 9th) from 4-8 PM. Services will be conducted on Saturday (December 10th) at 11:00 AM in First Assembly of God, 9750 Niagara Falls Blvd., Niagara Falls, NY 14304. WHEATFIELD - Gladys M. (Walck) DeVantier, 62, of Lockport Road,. died Wednesday (June 24, 1998) m Buffalo General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Wheatfield, the daughter of William and Selma (Walck) Walck.
She had lived in the Sanborn area her entire life, attending local schools and graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1954. Mrs. DeVantier worked for the former Kimberly-Clark Corp. from 1954 to 1958, and later was a courier for the MDS Lab for six years.
She married Ralph DeVantier on Nov. 3, 1956. She worked at his construction company as a bookkeeper and secretary for 37 years.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Lewiston, and the Wheatfield Jaycees. She also had been active with the Niagara County 4H Program for many years.
Mrs. DeVantier enjoyed gardening, bowling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Sandra Retzlaff of Sanborn and Amy Bessel of Niagara Falls; three sons, Duane DeVantier of North Tonawanda, Kent DeVantier of Cleveland and Bruce DeVantier of Lewiston; one brother, Edgar Walck of Sanborn; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Irma Haseley.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Friday at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn. The Rev. Milan J. Slahor will conduct services at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, 915 Oneida Street, Lewiston. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst.

Gladys M. DeVantier, 62, of Lockport Road, a native of Wheatfield and lifelong resident of the Sanborn area, died Wednesday (June 24, 1998) in Buffalo General Hospital after a long illness.

CAMBRIA - John F.. Kroening, 15, of Upper Mountain Road, . former Town. of Cambria supervisor, died Saturday (Nov. 8, 1997) in Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, after being struck by an automobile. He was responding to the scene of an automobile accident with the Cambria Fire Co. on North Ridge Road near Church Road, when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle while crossing the street.
He was born Oct. 28. 1922, in Niagara Falls, the son of Elmer and Elsie (Walck) Kroening. He and his family moved to Sanborn when he was an ...... Mr. Kroening later to the family farm (sic) in Cambria when he was 8 years old. He attended LaSalle High School.
Mr. Kroening served as the supervisor of Cambria from 1970 to 1993, and as a councilman for 15 years before becoming supervisor. He also worked at the former Wurlitzer Co. and the National Grinding Wheel for a few years before becoming a full-time dairy farmer.
He was a charter member of the Cambria Volunteer Fire County, founded in 1944, where he served as chief from 1952. to 1957. He was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Ridge, and a former member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Pekin, where he served as treasurer from 1952 to 1955 and as chairman in 1969.
Mr. Kroening was a former director of the Niagara County Extension Service and served on the Niagara County Agricultural Stabilization Committee.
“He loved our town,” said June, his wife of 45 years. “He always treated the town's money just as if it was his own.”
A “no-nonsense” sort of guy was how Councilman George J. Bush described Kroening.
“Farmers don't really talk between the lines,” he said, adding that Kroening had approached him years ago to serve on the town's Recreation Commission. Even though Bush just said he would think about it, the next thing he knew, he had been appointed. Although Kroening wore a pacemaker and had some health problems the past few years, his wife said “you couldn't keep him from doing things” as he still loved riding his tractor and helping out others.
In addition to his wife, June E. (Scherer) Kroening; he is survived by two sons, Bryan Kroening and Michael Kroening, both of Lockport; two daughters, Laurie Page of Cheektowaga and Shelia Feind of Lockport; three brothers, Herbert Kroening and Martin Kroening, both of Lockport, and Harry Kroening of Sanborn; two sisters, Hazel Hasely (sic) of Sanborn and Doris DeVantier of Niagara Falls; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Raymond Kroening,
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn., where the Cambria Volunteer Fire Co. will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday. Herbert E. Kroening, 75, a councilman for the Town of Cambria, died unexpectedly Monday (Jan. 29, 2001) in Lockport Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lewiston, he operated a dairy farm in Cambria for more than 50 years.
He was serving his third term on the Cambria Town Board at the time of his death.
Kroening was a member of Cambria Volunteer Fire Company for 52 years and served on the town's Agriculture Stabilization Committee for more than 30 years. He also was a committeeman with the National Grape Co-op (Welch's) and a director with Niagara Milk Producers for 13 years.
He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Lockport.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Jeanette Schuman; two daughters, Kathy Kemble and Bonnie Glenn, both of Lockport; a son, Randy of Wilson; two brothers, Harry and Martin of Sanborn; two sisters, Hazel Haseley of Sanborn and Doris DeVantier of Bergholz; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday in Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 6965 Chestnut Ridge Road, Lockport. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria

Harry A. Kroening, 88, of Sanborn, NY was called to his heavenly home on Monday, May 9, 2016, at his residence under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in the Town of Lewiston, on June 6, 1927, the son of the late Elmer and Elsie [Walck] Kroening.

Mr. Kroening owned a dairy farm and was later employed with the Operating Engineers Local 463 for over 30 years, before retiring in 1989. He was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church for the past 83 years, holding several offices. He was an exempt member of the Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company.

Mr. Kroening built his own home as well as a cabin in the Southern Tier. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, gardening and woodworking.

Mr. Kroening was the husband of 63 years to the late Jeanette [Beutel] Kroening, who died on April 30, 2010. He is survived by his children Joyce Kroening, Daniel (Lois) Kroening, Carl (Donna) Kroening, Lee (Debra) Kroening, Diane (Michael) Sweet and Donna Kroening, thirteen grandchildren, Alicia (Ryan), Jeremy (Kerry), Justin (Aleasha), Andrew, Matthew, Rachel, Michelle (Thomas), Ashley, Lauren, Jessica, Jennifer, Kristina (Robert) and Joseph, two step-grandchildren, Teresa and Gina (Mario), two great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Eli, four step-great-grandchildren, Anthony, Julian, Nico and Jada, one brother Martin (Shirly) Kroening, two sisters Hazel (late Alfred) Haseley and Doris (Dennis) DeVantier, and a sister-in-law June Kroening. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the father of the late Jean and Lynn Kroening and brother of the late John, Raymond (late Rose) and Herbert (late Jeanette) Kroening.
His family will be present on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY. Funeral Services on Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 3229 Upper Mountain Road, Pekin, with the Rev. R. Peter Vogeler officiating.
