BERGOLTZ, Mar. 13. - The passing of Christian Walck, 45 years old, whose funeral was held last Saturday afternoon, removes a well (known) resident of Niagara county. He lived and labored in this vicinity all his life. He was failing in health last week and was removed to the Memorial hospital at Niagara Falls. N. Y., where he died of influenza and heart failure. The services for Mr. Walck were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the family home and at 2:30 at the St, Jacob's church, the Rev. Otto Bruss officiating. ADAMS - Mrs. Alice Achterberg, 90, of 115 E. Church St., widow of Charles Achterberg, died this morning in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where she had been a patient two weeks. The funeral is tentatively set for Thursday afternoon at the Brunner Funeral Home, North Tonawanda. Burial will be in North Tonawanda. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John R. (Lorna) Price, Adams, with whom she had lived 17 years, and Mrs Jacob P. (Caroline) Dexheimer, North Tonawanda; four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Born. Aug. 13, 1881, in Reed City Mich., she was married to Charles Achterberg, Jan. 1, 1901. He died in 1953.

Wheatfield Town Clerk Dies After Heart Attack

William F. Williams, 40, Born in North Tonawanda, Succumbed Last Night at His Home on Ward Road, St. Johnsburg

William F. Williams, 40 years old, one of the best known residents of the town of Wheatfield, died last night at his home on the Ward road, St. Johnsburg. His death followed a heart attack, with which he was stricken yesterday morning.

Mr. Williams was born in North Tonawanda 40 years ago and had been a resident of Wheatfield for the last 30 years. He had been clerk of the town for the past ten years. He was a member of the St. Johnsburg Fire Department. He was a Democrat politically.

Surviving are a wife, Louise; two sons, Edward and Roger Williams; a daughter, Miss Evelyn Williams; five brothers, Edmund and Walter Williams, St. Johnsburg, Alvin Williams, Newfane, Marcus and Helmuth Mellentine, St. Johnsburg, and four sisters, Mrs. Charles Achterburg, Pekin, Mrs. Louis Holland and Mrs. Louis Newman, North Tonawanda and Mrs. Henry Broecker, St. Johnsburg.

Jeanne (Holland) Ransom, a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home, Schoellkopf Health Center. She was 94. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on March 29, 1922, the daughter of the late Herman and Amelia (Williams) Holland. She attended schools and graduated in Pennsylvania, moving to Niagara Falls in 1964.

Mrs. Ransom was employed as a key punch operator for the Niagara Falls Board of Education and later for Chisholm Ryder, retiring in 1988. Following her retirement, she volunteered for HANCI as a home companion until 2010. She was a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, serving with its Altar Guild and was a member of the church choir.

As a young lady, she loved to play tennis and dance. She will be fondly remembered as a devoted family person, with a bright sense of humor and contagious smile.

Survivors include her two daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Ransom of Niagara Falls and Jean (Francis) DeMarco of Niagara Falls; grandchildren, Megan (Philip) Gross; Jessica and Amanda Moore; Joseph (Kim) DeMarco; Dr. Emily (Dr. Michael) Polischuk; Elizabeth and Laura DeMarco; two great granddaughters, Grace Jean and Adeline; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Susan (Paul) Moore, and siblings, Theodore; Harold; Carl and Mark Holland; Jacqueline Schimpf and Theodora Roper.

Friends may call Friday after 3:30 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where a closing prayer will be held at 8 PM Friday. She was born in Niagara Falls, Aug. 13. 1898, daughter of the late August and Albertine (Walck) Mueller. She was active in church groups and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Mars, Pa.
Mrs. Heuer was the widow of the Rev. Louis Heuer, who died Jan. 16, 1983. He was a Lutheran minister at. various churches for over 65 years. She was the mother of the late Rev. Bernard Heuer and sister of Edward Mueller, who died Oct. 19, 1989.
Mrs. Heuer is survived by a daughter, Gertrude Kalk of Canton, OH; and seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Visiting hours are Saturday in Mars and at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. James Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road, where services be held at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Contributions to St. James Lutheran Church are acceptable as tribute.

Her late husband, the Rev. Louis Heuer, was a former minister of the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Heuer, 91, died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 1989) in the St. John Lutheran Care Center in Mars, Pa. She and her husband moved to Pennsylvania from Columbus, OH, in 1975. Mr. Heuer died in 1983.
He was a minister at Niagara Falls area churches for 17 years before being assigned to churches in other parts of the country.

WHEATFIELD - Edward M. Mueller, 87, of Cayuga Drive Extension, died Thursday (Oct. 19, 1989) in Mount St, Mary's Hospital, Town Of Lewiston.
Mueller was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield.
He was a former Wheatfield town justice and was employed at the National Grinding Wheel Co. for 35 years. Be was a 50 year member of the Co-op Fire Insurance Corp. of Bergholz and served as its president for a number of years, as well as on the board of directors.
Mueller was actively involved with the Cataract Camera Club and was a recipient of many awards. He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church, holding numerous offices over the years. After retirement he involved himself in the activities of the Retired Men's Service Club and especially enjoyed singing in its chorus. He was a member of the North German Historical Society. He was also first president of St. James Lutheran Church congregation.
He was the husband of Edna (DeVantier) Mueller, who died in l984 and was father of the late Lowell Mueller.
Mueller is survived by daughters, Audrey Walck of Sanborn and Marilyn Mueller of New Orleans; sons, Milton Mueller of Sanborn and Myron Mueller of North Tonawanda; and a sister, Whilimine (sic) Heuer of Ohio; nine ,grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Edwin D. Walck, 94, a longtime farmer, died Monday (Dec. 17, 2001) in CrestWood Health Care Center after a brief illness. Walck was born in Wheatfield and attended St. James School in Bergholz. Before becoming a farmer, he worked as a machinist in Niagara Falls for 14 years. Most of his working years were spent operating farms in the Town of Niagara, Pendleton and Cambria. Among cash crops he harvested were wheat, corn, oats and hay. Walck moved to the health care facility three years from his home in Cambria. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn, where he served as an elder and trustee. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau and Niagara County Extension. He and his wife of 59 years, Frances Haseley Walck, enjoyed spending winters in Florida. She died in 1994. Walck also had enjoyed hunting on land he owned in northern Pennsylvania. Survivors include two sons, Donald of Pendleton and Darrell of Cambria; a daughter, Suzanne Milleville of Wheatfield; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday in St. Peter's Church, Walmore Road, Sanborn. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Daniel E. Mueller, 86, formerly of Niagara Falls, died Friday (Dec. 6, 1996) in Nova Scotia. He was born Oct. 28, 1910, in Niagara Falls, the son of Philip and Auguste Mueller. He lived most of his life in Western New York and moved recently to Ensfield. Mr. Mueller was active in the U.S. Merchant Marine and in the International Life Boat Races before World War II. He learned to fly in the early 1930s and was a flight instructor for powered aircraft and gliders. Before the war, He was active in the Civil Pilot Training program, funded by the U.S. government, Niagara University and the University at Buffalo. During World War II, he was an advanced flight instructor for the Royal Air Force as part of the lend-lease program between the U.S. and the United Kingdom. After the war, Mr. Mueller flew with airlines in the U.S. on domestic flights and in Central America. He was the husband of the late
Enna (Tallman) Draper Mueller. He Is survived by his second wife, Mary (McPhee Ross) Mueller; a brother, Norman Mueller of Niagara Falls; a stepson, Lloyd Draper of Lewiston; two stepdaughters, Lorraine Anderson of Sanborn and Bonna Sue Himes of McGaheysville, Va.; and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Helen Mueller, Louise Beutel, Paul Mueller, the Rev. Henry Mueller, the Rev. Marcus Mueller and Albert Mueller. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia. Daniel E. Mueller, a native of Niagara Falls and a pilot and former flight instructor, died Friday (Dec. 6, 1996) at his home in Enfield, Nova Scotia. He was 86.
Mueller was born in the LaSalle area of Niagara Falls and had lived much of his life in Western New York.
He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine before World War II.
Mueller learned to fly in the early 1930s and was a flight instructor in powered aircraft and soaring ships.
Prior to World War II, he was active in the Civil Pilot Training Program, funded by the federal government, Niagara University and the University of Buffalo. During World War II, he was an advanced flight instructor for the Royal Air Force as part of the Lend-Lease Program sponsored by the U.S. and the United Kingdom.
Mueller worked as a pilot after the war, flying with airlines in the U.S. and in Central America. He also worked in supervisory positions with the State Power Authority for 15 years and with Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. for 14 years.
He was an avid outdoorsman, astronomy enthusiast and world traveler.
He was the widower of Erma Tallman Mueller.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary McPhee; a brother Norman; a stepson, Lloyd Draper of Lewiston; two stepdaughters, Lorraine Anderson of Sanborn and Bonna Sue Himes of McGaheysville, Va.; and several step grandchildren.
Private services were held in Nova Scotia.

He was born in Niagara Falls and lived there for 26 years. He was pastor of St. Paul's American Lutheran Church in Altamont from 1962 to 1976. He had resided in St. Mary's Nursing Home, Niagara Falls, for six weeks prior to his death. He was born in Niagara Falls and attended local schools. Mueller served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a flight instructor.
He worked at Kimberly-Clark until he retired in 1982. Mueller enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling and taxidermy. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and Sunday school class in Wheatfield. He was a past trustee there as well. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, the former Lydia S. DeVantier of the Town of Niagara; two sons, Frederick of Camarillo, Calif., and Donald of Moon Township, Pa.; a daughter, Carolyn Root of Tulerosa, NM; six grandchildren-; and three great-grandchildren.

Norman A. Mueller, age 84, of Lockport Rd. Town of Niagara, died Wednesday, Aug 14, 2002 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, after being a resident in St Mary's Nursing Home for six weeks, after a lengthy illness. Born in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY on January 7, 1918 to Philip and Augusta (Wolf) Mueller.
He is a US Army veteran, serving from 1942-45, in which he was a flight instructor with the WW II Training Service. He was employed as a machine tender by Kimberly Clark, (later changing it's name to Cellu, then Nitec) in Niagara Falls for 47 years retiring in 1982. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling, and doing taxidermy. A member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church & Sunday School class in Walmore, where he is also a past trustee. He was united in marriage to Lydia S. Devantier on Feb 15, 1941, and their marriage was blessed with three children, Frederick (Gloria) Mueller of Camarillo, CA, Donald (Tillie) Mueller of Moon Township, PA, Carolyn Root of Tulerosa, NM, six grandchildren, Kristen, James, Kim, Jason, Jerad, Nathan, three great grandchildren, Gavin, Jacob, and Emma Grace and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, five brothers, Paul, Henry, Mark, Albert, and Daniel and two sisters, Louise Beutel & Helen Mueller.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — Lt. Col. (Ret.) Arthur E. Wolf, 94, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed away on September 20, 2010. Arthur was born and raised in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, prior to moving to Maryland in 1960 in service to his country with the U.S. Army. He proudly served in the Army for 27 years when he retired and promptly went to work as a civilian for the Dept. of the Navy. Arthur was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors.

He was the beloved husband of Beatrice Wolf (Hasley); dear brother of Louise Bish of Niagara Falls; devoted father of Kathleen Harrill and Randy Wolf, Sr. of Maryland; loving grandfather of Amy Jones, Amanda Wolf, April Wolf, Amber Wolf and Randy Wolf, Jr.; cherished great-grandfather of Logan and Kelsey Jones. He was preceded in death by brothers, John Wolf, Edwin Wolf, Benjamin Wolf , Kenneth Wolf; and sisters, Lena Landers, Alma Campbell.

Ransomville - Naomi F. Belling, 79, of Heritage Manor, formerly of North Tonawanda, died Dec 6, 1997, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston.
She was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Amherst, the daughter of John G. and Elsie A. (Wolf) Belling. She lived at the manor since July 9, 1991.
Miss Belling was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda.
She is survived by a brother, Ralph Belling of North Tonawanda; a sister Ruth O. Wendt of Sanborn; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Debbie Ellis conducted services Tuesday at the DuBois Funeral Home, Bergholz. Burial was in White Chapel Cemetery, Amherst.

Ruth O. Wendt, 86, of Sanborn, NY passed away peacefully Sunday, May 20th, 2007 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, New York.
Mrs. Wendt was born in Amherst, Erie County, NY on October 26, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Elfie [ Wolf ] Belling. She was a longtime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church - Walmore Sanborn, NY. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and caring for her family.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Marvin W. Wendt, who died on August 20, 1996.
Surviving are he loving children, Kathleen [ Duane ] Goss, Lance [ Debra ] Wendt, Janelle [ Donald ] Kroening, Lynette [ Ronald ] Sessman; a brother Ralph [ Donna ] Belling, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brother in-laws, Donald Wendt, Glenn [ Jean ] Wendt, Kenneth [ Diane ] Wendt, Forrest Wendt, sister-in-laws, Gracellyn [ John ] Bilek, Noreen and Darla Wendt. BUFFALO - Ralph E. Belling, of the Town of Pendleton, NY, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011, at Millard Fillmore Hospital Gates Circle, Buffalo, NY. He was born in Amherst, NY, on September 25, 1922, the son of John and Elsie (Wolf) Belling.

Mr. Belling grew up and had worked on his family’s farm for over 28 years before becoming a mixer with the Durez Chemical Co. in North Tonawanda for 17 years, before retiring in 1984. He delivered food for the Interfaith Food Pantry in North Tonawanda and was a member of the Wendleville Senior Citizens. Mr. Belling enjoyed spending time with his family and taking care of his pets.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna F. (Hartman) Belling; two sons, Roger J. (Rebecca) Belling of Wheatfield and Roy D. (Patti) Belling of Sanborn; two grandchildren, Kimberly and Kevin; one great-granddaughter, Ella. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Belling was the brother of the late Naomi Belling and Ruth Wendt.

Born in North Tonawanda, NY, on March 24, 1925 to the late William and Ruth (Wolf) Loeschke. She was a member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church in Bergholz, was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Survivors include two children, Robert W. (Elizabeth) Schultz of Avon, NY and Deborah L. BERGHOLZ - William A. Loeschke, a longtime member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company and a retired employee of National Grinding Wheel, died Wednesday in his home after a long illness. He was 77.
The Bergholz native attended local schools and was a life member of St. James Evangelical Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948 and was a member of Post No. 1, American Legion.
Mr. Loeschke worked for National Grinding Wheel in Niagara Falls for 40 years.
He served in the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company for 55 years and was an exempt member. He was a lifetime member of the New York State Firemen's Association.
Mr. Loeschke was active in the Wheatfield Democratic Party for 20 years.
He and his wife of 54 years, the former Dorothy Thomas, enjoyed spending summers at their cottage in Cape Vincent and winters in Tampa, Fla.
He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and hunting.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Loeschke is survived by a son, William E. of Wilson; two daughters, Judy Ann Seebauer of Grand Island and Kathleen Roman of Bergholz; four sisters, Alice Schultz of Wheatfield, Helen Roberts and Ruth Haseley, both of Bergholz, and Norma Scherrer of Niagara Falls; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held by the Bergholz Fire Company at 7 P.M. Saturday in the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road.

Charles Achterberg, Tonawanda Creek road, town of Amherst,
sank in the Barge Canal while swimming with a number
of other young people at Pickard's Bridge early last evening.
The body was recovered IS
minutes later by members of the
North Amherst Fire company, of
which the youth was a member.
An inhilator was Used by the
First Aid squad. of the Eggertsville
Fire company in an unsuccessful
attempt to restore him.
Physicians said that no water
was found in the man's lungs,
giving rise to the belief that he
was the victim of a heart attack.
Not Expert Swimmer
Achterberg was not an expert
swimmer,..He had been swimming
with other youths of Pickard's
Bridge in the canal all Summer
and was considered able to hand-
le himself fairly well in the
aquatic sport.
The point where he went down
was less than 1,00 feet from the
Achterberg home and only a short
distance east of the bridge over
the canal in the small settlement.

is survived by two brothers,
Leonard and Maynard, at home,

He was a past president of the Buffalo Litho Club and past treasurer of the National Association of Litho Clubs.
An avid sports enthusiast, he was a softball pitcher, as well as a coach for local amateur softball and basketball teams.
He was a former member of the Western New York and American Rose Societies and a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

NORTH TONAWANDA — Ruth M. Kureczka, age 82, of North Tonawanda, Sunday, October 23, 2011 in DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Ruth was a life-long resident of North Tonawanda and was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church.

She was a volunteer for the Carousel Society of the Niagara Frontier for many years. She was an usher at the Riviera Theater and loved to bowl, play games and cards.

She was the wife of the late John Kureczka who died in 1993. Dear mother Joan (Jesse) Kureczka-Fisher of CA, Kathy (Dan) McIntire of Virginia Beach, VA and the late Jack Kureczka. Sister of Dorothy Hinkley of AZ and Esther (William) Stoeckel of Wheatfield; aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Linda C. Mietz, age 81, died peacefully March 3, 2022 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. 

She was born December 6, 1940 in Medina to Elmer and Mildred (Bruning) Leffler and was a life-long resident of this area.  Linda was a long-time member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church where she also taught Sunday school for many years.  She was a very devoted wife and old-school homemaker who took great pride in spending time with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren.  Linda was a great cook and baker and loved the simple joys of life such as going on her daily trips to Tim Hortons or Candy Apple to socialize with her husband and all the ‘regulars’ while sharing coffee and perhaps a meal.  Mrs. Mietz was predeceased by her sister: Virginia Messore. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Donald, her daughters: Molly (Stephen) McIntyre of Wolcottsville, Jane (Christopher) Harding of MI, her brothers: Stephen (Bette) Leffler of W. Shelby, Timothy (Tina) Leffler of NC, 4 grandchildren: Rachel, Justin, Bryan, Brooke as well as several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St.-Middleport, TUESDAY from 1-3 where her Funeral Service will be held immediately following visitation at 3 pm. 

Interment will be held in St. Michael’s Cemetery at a later date.

Stephen Arthur Leffler, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022 due to complications of emergency surgery. He was 83 years old.
 
Born to the late Elmer and Mildred (Bruning) Leffler on June 21, 1938, Stephen lived his entire life in the West Shelby area where he grew up with and later married Bette (nee Caleb) 63 years ago.  
 
Stephen is survived by his wife, Bette; five children, Michael Leffler, Michelle Leffler, Amy (Arthur) Washak, Darcy (Ed) Kaminski and Heidi Kuhmann; grandchildren, Stephanie Prawel, Andrew Washak, Kari (Joseph) Root, Katie, Madison and Zoe Kaminski, Jacob and Melanie Kuhmann; and great-grandsons, Barrett and Owen Root. Steve was predeceased by his two sisters, Virginia Messore and Linda Mietz. He is survived by his brother, Timothy (Tina) Leffler of North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Frank Messore and Donald Mietz; sister-in-law, Karen Larson; and many nieces and nephews.
 
Steve worked for many years at GM Harrison Radiator in Lockport, retiring as a maintenance foreman. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Middleport. Steve was a talented remodeler and woodworker.  In addition to his own home, he lent a hand to each of his children to build, repair or remodel their homes. He also created elaborate birdhouses and he was very proud of his over the top Christmas light displays. His favorite saying was no sweat, no big deal.
 
Steve took his family on camping trips for a number of years and then traveled throughout the US with Bette, Shelley and Stephanie logging many miles and adventures. He was always ready for a trip, especially to St. Pete’s Beach and the Outer Banks where we would meet up with family. Steve was blessed to have all his family nearby and considered eight at the dinner table a normal day, not a special occasion. He had a special relationship with granddaughter, Stephanie and with his caretaker cat, Pippi. 
 
A highlight every year for Steve was his birthday and Father’s Day clambake hosted by Amy and Art. At one of these parties it was famously stated “Steve Leffler, the greatest man I’ve ever known”. We think so. 
 
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 17th from 1:30-4:00pm immediately followed by a memorial service at 4:00pm at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Miss Zimmerman, 64, of Cayuga Street, died Monday (Sept. 18, 1995) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after apparently suffering a heart attack.
Born in North Tonawanda, she was a graduate of Capital University, Columbus, OH.
Miss Zimmerman was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she served as the organist for more than 40 years.
She was a waitress at Our Place Restaurant in Wheatfield and for 15 years worked at an M&T Bank branch.
Miss Zimmerman enjoyed music, gardening and traveling.
She is survived by a friend, Wallace Pfohl of Sanborn

Otto Bruss, at St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz. Audrey was united in marriage to Norman A. Walck on October 1, 1949. She attended local schools and was a 1945 graduate of LaSalle High School. Audrey was employed by Moore Business Forms, Carborundum Company, Hooker Chemical Company, and New York Power Authority. She was an active member at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn, serving as Sunday School teacher, working with the young people and served on the church council as secretary and president. As chairperson of St. Peter's Archive Committee, she assisted in translating the church's records from the original German script, into English. Mrs. Walck was an accomplished porcelain artist, an officer in the Towpath China Painters Club, and World Organization of China Painters. Pictures of a number of her paintings were published in the organization's publication. Mrs. Walck was a member in the Niagara Women's Club, member of the German Historical Society, Sanborn Area Historical Society, and charter member of Artpark & Company. Audrey's greatest joy was the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Robert (Judith) Walck; daughter, Cheryl (Edward III) Hayes; grandchildren, Noelle and Nathan Urbach, Laura Hayes; sister, Marilyn Mueller; sisters and brothers in law, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Norman; parents, Edward and Edna Mueller; and brothers, Lowell, Milton and Myron Mueller. Services for Milton H. Mueller of Sanborn, an industrial arts teacher, were held Wednesday in St. James Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road, Bergholz. Burial was in St. James Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Wheatfield.
Mr. Mueller died Saturday (March 6, 2004) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after suffering a heart attack at home. He was 71.
He was born in Niagara Falls and attended St. James Lutheran School. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1950 and from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1954.
As a college student in the early 1950s, Mr. Mueller worked on the construction of the Niagara Power Project. He served with the Army from 1954 to 1956.
Mr. Mueller began his teaching career in 1956 in the Lewiston-Porter Central School District. In 1959 he transferred to Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District, where he taught for 31 years before retiring.
He was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church, where he was an elder. Mr. Mueller and his wife, Fern, traveled to Russia and China as missionaries, distributing Bibles. He was the television cameraman for the Niagara Ministries television program "Digging In," which is shown throughout the United States and Canada.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Fern S. Channell; two sons, Jeffery of Fargo, ND, and Douglas of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Deborah Bennion of Macomb, Mich.; a brother, Myron of North Tonawanda; two sisters, Audry Walck of Sanborn and Marilyn Mueller of New Orleans; and 10 grandchildren

Myron L. Mueller, age 73, of Wheatfield, was called to his heavenly home to be with our Lord and Savior, on Monday, April 6, 2009 at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY on January 1, 1936 to the late Edward and Edna (DeVantier) Mueller. He was a lifelong member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church in Bergholz, where he held various positions over the years and enjoyed singing in the choir. Myron served in the National Guard and retired as a carpenter superintendent with Scrufari Construction Company, was a 50 year member of the Buffalo Carpenters Union and was project manager, working on the Wheatfield recreation and water department buildings and was very proud of his accomplishments. Myron enjoyed bowling at the Manor II Lanes on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons, played bingo, traveled many places along the coast - Maine to the Carolina's, visiting lighthouses, faithfully kept a weather journal and had an A-frame at Rushford Lake, where his family vacationed during the summer months. Hobbies included woodworking, gardening, painting, puzzles, fishing and golfing. Myron especially enjoyed being with his family and watching his grandchildren play baseball, and would have an Easter Egg hunt at his house for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with pizza for lunch.Survivors include his beloved wife, Marlene (Goater) Mueller. A funeral for Roger A. Walck, 70, of the Town of Niagara, a longtime Harrison Radiator employee, will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6169 Walmore Road, Sanborn. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Walck died Wednesday (Sept. 25, 2002) at his Town of Niagara home.
He was employed at Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors Corp. in Lockport for 31 years, the last 15 years as a forklift operator, retiring in 1987. He was a part-time farmer and built lawn furniture and picnic tables at his residence.
He served in the Air Force Reserve for three years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Walck was a member of Wheatfield Post, American Legion.
He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He also was a member of Local 686, United Auto Workers, at Harrison.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Darlene; two sons, Brian R. and Bruce M., both of the Town of Niagara; a daughter, Cindy Y. Engle of Lewiston; his mother, Agnes of Wheatfield; a sister, Gloria Hildebrandt of Cambria; and five grandchildren

NORTH TONAWANDA, Ivan T. Walck, 41, of 1705 Third Ave., died Saturday (Feb. 4, 1978) in Memorial Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was a lifelong resident of the Towns of Wheatfield and Niagara, a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, and of the International Union of' Operating Engineers, Local 463.
For 10 years he was self-employed, operating Walck's Trenching and was later employed by the John J. Gross Plumbing and Heating Co.
He is survived by a son, Randy; a daughter, Terri; his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore J. Walck of Wheatfield; two brothers, Roger A. Walck of the Town of Niagara and Duane V. Walck of Cuba, N.Y.; and a sister, Mrs. Karl (Gloria) Hildebrandt of Sanborn.
The family will receive friends at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. today and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will he held in St. Peter Lutheran Church Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Wittenberg officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.

BATAVIA - Duane V. Walck, 47, of Clinton Street, formerly of Niagara Falls, died Wednesday (Oct. 23, 1991) in Highland Hospital, Rochester, after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Theodore J. Walck, who died in 1983, and was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Sanborn. He is survived by his mother, Agnes V. Walck of Niagara Falls; a brother, Roger A. Walck of Niagara Falls; a sister, Gloria Hildebrandt of Sanborn; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Ivan Walck, who died in 1978.

WHEATFIELD - Alice B. (Retzlaff) Walck, age 87, of Wheatfield, was called peacefully to her heavenly home, to be with her Lord and Savior on October 16, 2012 at her residence. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, on July 22, 2012, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lily (Pfuhl) Retzlaff. Alice attended St. Peter's Lutheran School in Walmore and was a 1943 graduate of LaSalle High School. She was employed at the former Bell Aircraft and later at the Carborundum Company - Bonded Abrasives division in Niagara Falls, until her retirement in 1983. Alice was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church, Wheatfield, where she was with the St. Peter's Quilters. She was also a member of the Ransomville Seniors and enjoyed gardening, flowers and traveling. Survivors include her brother, Kenneth (Dianne) Retzlaff of Wheatfield; sister-in-law, Lois Retzlaff; eight nieces and nephews, Debra (Ted) Sheehan, Brian (Sandra) Retzlaff, Gary Retzlaff, Randy Retzlaff, Sandra (Steven) Lang, Carol (Leonard) Binns, David (Allison) Retzlaff and Dale (Lisa) Retzlaff; twenty great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-nephew. RETZLAFF - Willis S., Wheatfield town assessor NF Gazette 8/22/2005

WHEATFIELD - Willis S. Retzlaff, who served as town assessor for 27 years and was active in community and church affairs, died of a heart attack Saturday in his home. He was 78.
Mr. Retzlaff was born in Wheatfield and attended local schools. He served in the Air Force and was a member of Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion.
He was a lifelong farmer and a skilled carpenter who built several homes in the area.
He was town assessor from 1972 to 1999 and the following year was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals. He had been president of the Niagara County Assessors Association and an officer of the New York State Assessors Association.
Mr. Retzlaff was an active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as president, elder and financial secretary. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the cemetery committee.
He was a charter member and past president of the Wheatfield Lions Club and was serving as treasurer at the time of his death.
He was named Lion of the Year in 1991 and won two other Lions awards: the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1994 and the Robert Uplinger Distinguished Service Award in 1998.
He was a charter member of the Wheatfield Republican Club; member and past president of the Wheatfield Business Association; treasurer of the Wheatfield Family Picnic Committee; a former member of the Bergholz German Band; a member of the town Historical Society; and a volunteer for Kids Voting.
He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Lois Hassan; a daughter, Debra Sheehan of Bergholz; a son, Randall of Wheatfield; a sister, Alice Walck of Sanborn; a brother, Kenneth of Wheatfield; and six grandchildren-.
Services will be at 11 A.M. Wednesday in St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walmore Road. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Willis Sherman Retzlaff

Willis Sherman Retzlaff was born on June 7,1927 to Arthur and Lily (Pfuhl) Retzlaff. He was baptized on June 19, 1927 and confirmed on April 14, 1940. Willis was united in marriage to Lois Hassan on September 8, 1951. They were blessed with two children, Debra and Randall.
Willis was a life long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where he served as President of the Congregation, financial secretary, Elder and presently as Chairman of the Cemetery Committee.
Willis farmed for many years then went into carpentry and built many homes in the area. He was elected Assessor for the Town of Wheatfield and served in that capacity for 27 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a charter member, past President and currently served as Treasurer of the Wheatfield Lions Club. He was named Lion of the year in 1991, received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1994 and the Robert Uplinger Distinguished Service Award in 1998. He was a charter member of the Wheatfield Republican Club, member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens, member and past President of the Wheatfield Business Association and treasurer of the Wheatfield Family Picnic Committee, a former member of the Bergholz Band, member of the Historical Society, was a volunteer for Kids Voting each year, was a former President of Niagara County Assessor's Association, a former officer of the New York State Assessor's Association, served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the American Legion-Wheatfield Post 1451, member of the Wheatfield Zoning Board of Appeals.
Willis enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and helping anyone in need.
On Saturday, August 20, 2005, at home, unexpectedly Willis was called to be with His Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, daughter, Debra (Theodore) Sheehan, son, Randall; grandchildren, Theodore (Holly) Sheehan Ill, Becky, Tim and Tom Sheehan, Amanda and Scott Retzlaff; a sister, Alice Walck, a brother, Kenneth (Dianne) Retzlaff; sisters-in-law, Joanne (Edwin) Scherrer, Betty Lou (George) Lozina and Sally Archer and many nieces and nephews.

KENNETH ARTHUR RETZLAFF, age 84 of Wheatfield, NY, went to his heavenly home, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Niagara Hospice, on November 25, 2020, at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on October 8, 1936, son of the late Arthur and Lilly (Pfuhl) Retzlaff. He was a life long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn. Ken graduated from Trott Vocational High School. He married Dianne Blank on May 17, 1957, and they enjoyed 63 wonderful years together. Ken was a farmer all his life, a member of the Wheatfield Zoning Board, then elected eight terms as a Wheatfield Town Councilman, serving for 32 years, and as Deputy Supervisor. He was a member of the Wheatfield Republican Club, was a trustee at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, and a member of the building committee of the new addition of the church. Ken enjoyed golfing, hunting, and spending time at the cabin.Survivors include his loving wife; six children, Brian (Sandra) Retzlaff, Gary Retzlaff, Sandra (Steven) Lange, Carol (Leonard) Binns, David (Allison) Retzlaff, Dale (Lisa) Retzlaff; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice (Leonard) Walck, brother, Willis (Lois) Retzlaff, and brother-in-law, Darrell (Nancy) Blank. Friends may call on Saturday (Nov. 28) from 9-11 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 6168 Walmore Road. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Thorstad, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, or Niagara Hospice. Arrangements were with the DuBois Funeral Home, Wheatfield, NY.

Audrey Margaret Johnson, age 71 of the Town of Lewiston, NY, was called to her heavenly home, unexpectedly at her residence, on June 8, 2022. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on November 26,1950; daughter of the late Adolph and Margaret (Warblow) Pfohl. A lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Walmore, where over the years,she held various positions at the church, loved volunteering at the school, and was also the treasurer for the church and school. Audrey enjoyed crocheting, playing games on Kindle, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, and loved her two cats.Survivors include her daughter, Kylene (Dave) Hershberger; three grandchildren, Kierstyn, Michael and Brian; and a brother, Calvin (Patricia) Pfohl; many nieces and nephews, including Sherry (Kevin) DeVantier, Cindy (Niel) DeVantier, Diana (Bill) Sacher, Daniel Pfohl; and great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
