John A. Strasburg
Dies in Sanborn
SANBORN, June 14 — John A. Strasburg, prominent Ward road farmer died at his home yesterday after a short Illness.

Born In the Town of Wheatfleld July 31. 1877, the son of the late August and Auguste Strasburg. He has resided In the vicinity of Sanborn for 53 years.

Surviving are his wife Auguste Stoelting, five daughters. Mrs. Fred Wermuth. of Rochester; Mrs. Lewis Schworm, of Niagara Falls; Mrs. Elmore Herbst. of Lockport; Mrs. Clinton S. Hermanson and Mrs. Robert Strasburg of Niagara Falls. Leslie Read, both of Sanborn.

Two sons, Burnet Strasburg. at home, a sister Matilda of Sanborn and one brother Walter of Niagara Falls, eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held from the home In the Ward road, Sanborn. Wednesday at 2:30 p. m. with the Rev. Frank N. Taft officiating. Interment will be In Mt. View cemetery Pekln.

SANBORN - Funeral, services will be held Saturday at the Pike arid Jones Funeral Home here for Burnet W. V. Strasburg, of 6170 Ward Road, who died Wednesday (June 11, 1969) in Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital after a short illness Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery, Pekin. He was the superintendent of maintenance for the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District Mr. Strasburg was a native of the Town of Wheatfield and operated a farm until 1957, When he went to work for the maintenance department at Niagara-Wheatfield Central School. He became superintendent of the department a year ago. Survivors include his wife, Florence; a son, Roy L. Hopper, of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Smith , of Bergholtz, and Mrs. Robert Laese, of Lockport; a. brother, Robert. N., of Niagara Falls; five sisters, Mrs. Fred Wermuth of Youngstown, Mrs. Elmore Herbst of Lockport, Mrs. Lewis Schworm of.Gasport, and Mrs. Clinton Hermanson and Mrs. Leslie Read, both of Sanborn, and nine grandchildren. Memorial services will, be conducted tt the funeral home Friday at 8 p.m. by the IOOF Lodge 202 and at 8:30 p.m. by the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co.

GRAND ISLAND — Olga E. Wermuth, in her 100th year, of Youngstown, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, in Elderwood Health Care at Riverwood on Grand Island, NY.

Olga was born April 25, 1912 in Sanborn, NY, the daughter of the late John and Augusta (Stoelting) Strasburg and graduated from Holy Ghost Lutheran Church School. She married Frederick A. Wermuth on June 21, 1941. Frederick predeceased her on April 3, 1971.

Olga was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Youngstown for many years. A homemaker, she was a devoted mother and Christian. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and quilting.

She is survived by her children, Carol Wermuth of Chillicothe, OH, Dorothy (William) Hagan of Vancouver, WA, Sharon (Ray) Ingram of Geneseo, NY, and Neil (Mara) Wermuth of Glouster, MA; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Burnett Strasburg; and four sisters, Hilda Hermanson, Elena Read, Alma Herbst and Ida Schworm.

Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Wednesday, April 24, from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on her 101st birthday, April 25, at 1:00 PM in St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport St., Youngstown, with the Rev. Richard Blemaster officiating. Robert N. Strasburg, a retired Niagara Steel Finishing supervisor, died Monday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was 89.
Mr. Strasburg was born in Sanborn and attended Holy Ghost Lutheran School and Hoover Road Elementary School.
He was employed as a supervisor at Niagara Steel Finishing for 41 years, retiring in 1981.
He was an exempt member of Sanborn Fire Company and had been a member of its band for many years.
His wife of 55 years, the former Ann Hecker, died in 1991.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Dunlavy of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Janice E. Brewer of Rochester; two sons, R. Dwight of Groveland, and Bruce of Niagara Falls; three sisters, Olga Wermuth of Youngstown, Hilda Hermanson of Sanborn, and Alma Herbst of Lockport; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery

Hermanson, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2008, at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY.Mrs. Hermanson was born in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, on November 10, 1917, the daughter of the late John and Augusta (Stoelting) Strasburg.She was a life long resident of Sanborn and was employed with the Carborundum Co. for many years, before retiring. She was a member of the Sanborn Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Wheatfield Post #1451 Ladies Auxiliary and Das Haus in Bergholz. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards, bowling and traveling.Mrs. Hermanson was the wife of the late Clinton Sanborn Hermanson, who died in April of 1979. She is survived by two sisters, Olga Wermuth of Youngstown, NY and Alma Herbst of Lockport; her brother-in-law, Les Read of Sanborn, NY; also many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert and Burnett Strasburg, Elena Read and Ida E. Schworm. The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, from 3-7 PM Friday, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM with the Rev. John D. LOCKPORT — Alma S. Herbst, age 92, of Lockport, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Eastern Niagara Memorial Hospital in Newfane.

Mrs. Herbst was born on February 10, 1920 in Sanborn, NY, the daughter of the late John and Augusta (Stoelting) Strasburg. On January 11, 1947, she married the late Elmore Herbst, who died in January of 1992. For 40 years, together with her husband, they operated Maplehurst Farm on Ridge Road in the Town of Cambria.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at North Ridge, and a past member of its Ladies Aid Society. Alma also enjoyed greeting guests at Maplehurst Bed & Breakfast. She loved baking, quilting, tatting and gardening.

She is survived by two daughters, Gail (David) Miller of Medina, NY and Jill (Ronald) Bargiel of Huntingdon, PA; two sons, John Herbst of Lexington, KY and Mark Herbst of Lockport; her grandchildren, Marshall Herbst (KY), Alicia (Drew) Mease (SC), and Benjamin Bargiel (PA); three great-grandchildren; a sister, Olga (Strasburg) Wermuth of Youngstown; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Robert and Burnett Strasburg; and sisters, Hilda Hermanson, Elena Read and Ida Schworm.

She was a graduate of the LaSalle High School, in Niagara Falls, NY, and had been employed at the former Salesbook; DuPont and Hooker Chemical Companies; K-Mart and Allen's Men's Shop. She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church; the former Sanborn United Methodist Church Women's Guild; she was a life member of the American Legion Post 969, Ladies Auxiliary, where was a past president. She was also a member of the Sanborn Area Historical Society and the Sanbornite Senior Citizens. Surviving is her husband of 59 years, Lionel L. "Les" Read; two sons, William L. [ Ruth ] Read; Ronald L. Read, all of Sanborn; a brother, Robert Strasburg, of Niagara Falls; three sisters, Olga Wermuth, of Youngstown; Hilda Hermanson, of Sanborn; Alma Herbst, of Lockport, NY; two granddaughters, Kimberly Bolos; Andrea Hughes; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ida E. Schworm and Burnett Strasburg. Ida E. Schworm, 79, of the Town of Niagara, NY, formerly of Gasport, NY, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, NY, after a brief illness. She was born on December 14, 1922, the daughter of John and Augusta (Stoelting) Strasburg and had been a resident of Sanborn, NY, before moving to Gasport, NY in 1965.

She moved to the Town of Niagara a year ago. Mrs. Schworm was a graduate of LaSalle High School in Niagara Falls, NY. She was employed for over 25 years as an executive secretary for the Bell Telephone Company, prior to her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, NY, the Telephone Pioneers of America, the American Legion Post 969, Ladies Auxiliary, Sanborn, NY and the International Association of Administrative Assistants.

Mrs. Schworm was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Lewis H. Schworm, who died on May 6, 1999. Surviving are four sisters, Olga Wermuth of Youngstown, NY, Hilda Hermanson of Sanborn, NY, Alma Herbst of Lockport, NY and Elena Read of Sanborn, NY; a brother, Robert Strasburg of Niagara Falls, NY; also by several nieces and nephews. The family will be present at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, NY, from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Bruce Strasburg, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019, in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.  He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on July 27, 1950, the son of the late Robert and Ann [Hecker] Strasburg.
Mr. Strasburg graduated from both Niagara Falls High School and Erie County Community College. He was a facility worker at Niagara University for 27 years before retiring in 2016. Mr. Strasburg enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He will be remembered as a kind and loving person by all of those who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Charlene [Yelverton] Strasburg, two sons Justin V. and Joshua I. (Christina) Strasburg, two grandchildren Tegan and Griffin, a brother Dwight (Mary) Strasburg and a sister Janice (Thomas) Brewer, also many nieces and nephews. Mr. Strasburg was the brother of the late Joan (John) Dunlavy. Private Funeral Services will be held at the wishes of his family.
