Mrs. Wilhelmina Achterberg, 84 years old, a resident of the town of Wheatfield for the last 66 years, died last night in the Niagara county infirmary. She was bom in Germany, coming to America at the age of 14 and located in the town of Wheatfield. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gust Klein, North Tonawanda, and Mrs Otto Greinert, St. Johnsburg; two sons, William and Otto Weyer, North Tonawanda; 18 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock, daylight saving time, from the Greinert residence and half an hour later from the St. John's church. Rev. Walter Thiemecke will officiate. Victim of Tractor Mishap Succumbs
NORTH TONAWANDA, June 28. - Albert Weyers, seventeen years old, son of Otto. Weyers, residing on Lockport avenue in the Martinsville section of North Tonawanda, died at the DeGraff Memorial hospital last midnight from injuries sustained while operating a tractor employed to haul dirt excavated from Kohler street in preparation for the paving of the roadway. Young Weyers was injured early Tuesday afternoon. He was caught between the chain drive of the tractor and one of the wheels when the dump box upended. Death was due to internal injuries. The victim was employed by the Louis H. Gipp Construction company of Buffalo. Coroner W. L. Draper of Niagara Falls, took charge of the case in the absence of Coroner J. E. Helwig from the city.

Florence E. Taylor, age 103, of the Town of Wheatfield, died at North Gate Health Care Facility on January 9, 2015. Born on April 20, 1911 in North Tonawanda, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Marie (Pankow) Heidenfeldt. Florence was married to the late William M. Taylor, Sr. for 53 years. William passed away on June 11, 1987. She was predeceased by her daughters, Diane Taylor of North Dakota, Nancy (James) Stephanski of Town of Wheatfield; and a son, William (Linda) Taylor Jr. of East Shelby, NY. Florence was also predeceased by her brothers, Daniel, LeRoy, Elmer and Earl Heidenfeldt; and sisters, Gertrude Meisenberg, Gladys Goodman and Irene Donner.

Florence Taylor is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Walter) Hird of Medina, NY, Valerie (William) Carr of the Town of Wheatfield. Florence devoted her life to her family. She loved to cook, bake, sew, read and play her Wurlitzer Organ. She is survived by fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

William A. Strassburg, 85, a carpenter, farmer and plumber, died in his Randall Road home Friday (Oct. 25, 1996) under the care of Niagara Hospice.
Born in Wheatfield, Strassburg had lived on Randall Road since his marriage to the former Ethel Schultz in 1938. For many years, Strassburg was a self-employed carpenter and builder. He also was a vegetable farmer for about 15 years, selling produce at the farmers market in Buffalo.
In 1967, he joined the local staff of the state Parks and Recreation Department as a plumber, retiring after 10 years.
Strassburg was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at North Ridge, Cambria, and a former member of the Wilson Lions Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Timothy of Wilson and Robert of Ashland, Ky.; a daughter, Karen J. Carr of Oswego; two sisters, Irene Willert and Ida Hill of Buffalo; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Warblow was born in North Tonawanda. He worked for the New York Central Railroad from 1923 to 1971. He was a member of Local 36, Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen.
After his retirement, Warblow spent much of his time refinishing furniture and caning chairs.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, and the Lutheran Laymen's League.

A native of Wheatfield, Pankow served in the Army during World War II. He was employed in the Bonded and Abrasives divisions of Carborundum Co. for 43 years until he retired as a foreman.
He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he had served as an elder. He also was an active volunteer with Tri-Community Ambulance Service and enjoyed gardening and cooking.
His wife, Dorothy Cheatwood Pankow, died in 1996.
Survivors include three sisters, Lorriane Heuer of Florida and Jane Heuer and Josephine Moll, both of Wheatfield; a brother, Harold of Wheatfield; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

WHEATFIELD - Harold E. Pankow, a longtime member of St. Johnsburg Fire Company, died Saturday in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after a brief illness. He died a day before his 83rd birthday.
Mr. Pankow was born in North Tonawanda and was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Church. He attended parochial school.
He worked at National Grinding Wheel, Walck's Dairy and the state Department of Transportation, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Pankow had been a fire company member for 50 years. He enjoyed doing crafts and spending his winters in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Jennis A. Walck; a daughter, Betty Cash-Willis of Fort Myers, Fla.; a son, Robin of Rome; two sisters, Lorena Heuer of Port Orange, Fla., and Jane Heuer of Wheatfield; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

WHEATFIELD — Jane E. Heuer (Pankow), age 84, of Wheatfield, was called, peacefully, to her heavenly home on April 18, 2011, at her residence. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on January 31, 1926 to the late William and Charlotte (McGill) Pankow. She was a 1944 graduate of North Tonawanda High School, a lifelong member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Wheatfield, was a loving and devoted mother, and enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include four children, Curtis (Jeanne) Heuer, Mary (Henry) Striewing, Mark (Minerva) Heuer and Steven (Ann) Heuer; five grandchildren, Nathan Heuer, Michael and Matthew Striewing, Virginia Kahmann and Jonathan Heuer; a great-granddaughter, Briahnna Lynn and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Harold H. Heuer on August 29, 2010; four brothers, George, Vernon, Wallace and Harold Pankow; and two sisters, Josephine Moll and Lorena Heuer.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service, officiated by the Rev. Ronald Oravec, on Thursday at 4:00 PM in St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Falls Blvd. and Ward Road. Olive "Sue" L. Burkholder (Kline), age 99, of Tonawanda. Sue enjoyed bowling and loved being a member of her bowling league. She also enjoyed golfing from time to time. Sue had a green thumb and enjoyed spending time in and caring for her flower garden. She also hand made china dolls, gifting them to her family members.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Wilbur L. Burkholder, her daughter Patricia (Burkholder) Kerwin, and her grandson Lawrence Jones.  Survived by her sons William "Mike" (Colleen)  Burkholder, Mark (Katherin) Burkholder, Jeff (Mary) Burkholder. James Jon Pieper, age 85, of North Tonawanda, passed away Tuesday evening August 6, 2019 at Niagara Hospice House, Lockport. Jim was born on July 17, 1934 in Wheatfield. He was the youngest child of Arthur and Ruth (nee Grawe). He was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda graduating from the North Tonawanda High School in 1953. Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of the Niagara Aerospace Museum and the Vintage Aircraft Group, American Legion, Sikora Post 1322, and St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Retired from Durez in 1980 after 31 years. 
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Diane (nee Wescott); two sons Timothy of Melbourne, FL and David (Cathy) of Fairview Heights, IL; one daughter Lynda (Paul) Schultz of Grand Island, NY; five grandchildren, Jonathan & Jenna Pieper, and Emma, Laura, & Rebecca Schultz; one sister-in-law Larene (Hall) Pieper, one-brother-in-law, Arthur (Chun) Wescott, and many nieces and nephews.

Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late William and Martha (nee Wittkopf) Broeker, and was an Army Veteran of WWII, serving during the occupation of Japan. A resident of the Warsaw area for more than 50 years, he was a custodian for the Warsaw School District, before retiring. He was the brother of the late Edward, William and Reynold Broeker, Selma Galos, Eleanor Corbit and Elsie Bennett.
He is survived by two sisters, Martha Cairl and Caroline Russell; and a brother, Chester (Virginia) Broeker. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. There is no visitation. Wilbert was an avid gardener and photographer. He was the husband of the late Virginia (nee Keyes) Ostwald, who died earlier this year. GLENWOOD L. MAERTEN, age 93 of Wheatfield, NY, entered into rest peacefully on February 5, 2022, while at the Elderwood at Wheatfield facility. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on August 2, 1928; son of the late Leonard and Evelyn (Broker) Maerten. After serving his country as a Marine, he started working as a plumber, and in 1965 he formed his own plumbing contracting company, and worked until his retirement at the age of his mid 70's. Glenwood was a founding member of the Wheatfield Plumbing Board, and served as a plumbing inspector. Glenwood was a charter member of the Wheatfield Lion's Club. He enjoyed eating out, loved spending months during the winter, at his home in Cape Coral, Florida.He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary (nee Rehm) of 67 years; a brother, Kenneth Maerten; and sister, Dorothy Meyers.Survivors include a son, Daniel Maerten; daughter, Cheryl (Thomas) Encao; grandchildren, Corrine Bristol, Trevin Maerten, Daniel Encao, and Anthony (Becky) Encao; great-grandchildren, Leia Bristol, Kendyl Bristol, and Nickolas Encao; and many nieces and nephews.The visitation and services will be announced at a later date. Meiers, who died August 31, 1998, and sister of the late Kenneth Maerten.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Barb (Gary) Janik of Wheatfield and Kathryn (Steve Cyrankowski) Kozakowski of Lockport; three grandchildren, Wallace Kozakowski of Tonawanda, April (Mike) Ranalli of Wheatfield, and Karen (Quentin) Myrick of San Diego, California; and her brother, Glenwood (Mary) Maerten of Wheatfield. Alan C. Greinert, 61, of Amherst, controller of Newtown Computer Printing of Buffalo for the last 30 years, died Sunday (Sept. 2, 2001) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after becoming ill at home.
Greinert was born in Lockport and moved to Niagara Falls in the 1950s. He graduated from LaSalle High School. He later earned degrees from Kelley Business Institute and Niagara County Community College.
Greinert served in the Army Signal Corps from 1961 to 1963 and was stationed in East Africa.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz, and was devoted to his dogs, according to his family.
Survivors include his wife, the former Kathy D. Wade, and a brother, Roger J. of Grand Island.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday in St. James Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road, Bergholz. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield

LOCKPORT - Roger L. Goodman, 85, passed away Sunday evening, July 6, 2014, at Newfane Rehabilitation Center. Roger was born on April 8, 1929 in North Tonawanda, son of the late Wallace E. and Gladys (Heidenfeldt) Goodman. He married Betty Lou Dunigan on June 3, 1950. She died August 7, 2006. Roger worked for the U.S. Army in Niagara Falls on the Nike missile sites for 17 years, and then with his wife; they operated Goodman's Delicatessen in N. Tonawanda. They sold the store in 1981 and he went to work for Mobil Oil in Buffalo, transferred to Wichita, KS then to Ferndale, WA, retiring from British Petroleum. After his retirement he moved to Winthrop, NY, then to Lockport. During his working years, he was always motivated to better himself by attending classes and studying independently. Industrious by nature, Roger built his first home, rebuilt and repaired automobiles and had a creative way to renovate closets. He was an avid boater, fishing in Lake Whatcom and Bellingham Bay in WA and on the St. Lawrence River, and enjoyed hunting, golf, bowling and traveling. He is survived by two children, Michael and Patti Goodman of Winthrop and Tammy Jo Goodman and friend John of Lockport; two grandchildren, Julia Goodman and her fiance, Michael O'Brien of Brasher Falls, and Jonathan Goodman of Winthrop; one sister, Carol Forth of Lockport; one brother, Richard and Ann Goodman of Tonawanda; his Aunt Florence Taylor of Wheatfield; several nieces and nephews. Roger was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Ernest Forth and several aunts and uncles. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 18th at Noon, at White Chapel Memorial Park, 3210 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst, with Rev. Kevin R. Robbins, Pastor of Lockport Alliance Church officiating. He was born on December 23, 1931 in North Tonawanda, NY to the late Glenwood and Edna Schroeder Warblow. He was the brother of the late James Warblow of North Tonawanda, NY. Robert is survived by his wife Dorothy Ann Keenan Warblow of Etowah, NC; a nephew, Robert Snyder; a great-nephew, Daniel Snyder and a great-niece Renee Snyder all of Tonawanda, NY. After graduating North Tonawanda High School, Robert received a degree in Interior Design from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. He then joined the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After the service he attended the University of Colorado at Denver and received a Masters Degree in Design. Interior Design was not just a job to Robert, it was something he loved. His clients were not just customers, but friends. He worked in interior design for 50 years before retiring. His work took him all over the United States and Canada. Robert loved to travel and meet new people. He loved the theater and classical music. Robert was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville, NC, where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on July 16, 2014 to celebrate his life. AMHERST - James D. Warblow, of North Tonawanda, NY, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014, in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, NY.

He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, on June 4, 1936, a son of the late Glenwood and Edna (Schroeder) Warblow.

Mr. Warblow was a self-employed wielder, working for various businesses in the area for the past 60 years.

He was a member of the Jim Hurtubise's pit crew for many years and was a member of the Free Wheelers Car Club.

Mr. Warblow enjoyed restoring antique automobiles making them into street rods and was an avid sportsman.

He was the husband of the late Carilyn (DeNeau) Warblow and father of the late Linda A. Snyder.

Mr. Warblow is survived by his son-in-law, Robert M. Snyder of North Tonawanda, NY; two grandchildren, Daniel and Renee Snyder; a sister- in-law, Dorothy Warblow; his dear friend, Joan Pfister. He is also survived by many cousins and friends. He was the brother of the late Robert Warblow.

Born August 4, 1938 in the Town of Lewiston, she was the daughter of the late George and Dolores (nee Doebler) Beckett and had been a resident of Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. Before retiring, Mary had been employed at Niagara Mohawk. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Tonawanda where she had been involved with the Pro-Life Committee and the Mission and Prayer Groups.
She was the sister of Kathy Brenon, Carol (Greg) Galdon, George (Sandy) Beckett, James (Joan) Beckett, and the late David Beckett, Judy Henderson, Patricia Barth, and John Beckett; and was the loving companion of the late James LaFleur. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was an avid bowler, golfer, hunter and fisherman, as well as enjoying NASCAR, local auto racing and camping. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.He is survived by his wife, Carole; a son, Brett (Lindsey) Doebler of Gasport, NY; a daughter, Mary Jo Murray of Goose Creek, SC; his grandchildren, Justin Jeffords, Natalie Shaw, Tiffany Cox, Jordan Brock and Jacob Howland; his great-grandchildren, Isaac and Isabella Shaw; a sister, Diane (Donald) Peck of the Town of Cambria; a step-brother, Arnold Drewes, Jr. of the Town of Cambria; and two step- sisters, Linda (Gary) Treichler of Sanborn and Pamela (David) Erway of Wilson. George W. Pankow Jr., operator of the former Pumpkin Village on Nash Road, died Thursday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He was 64.
Mr. Pankow was born in North Tonawanda and graduated from North Tonawanda High School.
He worked at Ashland Oil Co. and the Chevrolet engine plant in the Town of Tonawanda, but his hobby was growing pumpkins.
Mr. Pankow's father founded Pumpkin Village, a seasonal attraction every fall, on Niagara Falls Boulevard. After his father died in 1981, Mr. Pankow moved it to Nash Road, where it continued into the 1990s.
In the early 1980s, Mr. Pankow and his father also operated the first hydroponic greenhouse to grow tomatoes in Niagara County.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, the former Katherine J. Vossen; a son, Michael S. of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Patricia Snider of Chicago and Mary Childs of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Alice Licht of Wheatfield; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 A.M. Monday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls Boulevard and Ward Road.

Pankow - Vernon C. Pankow, Jr. of Big Bend, Wisconsin, entered into eternal life Sunday (June 5, 1994) at the age of 48. Born April 26,1946 to Vernon and Grace Pankow, Town of Wheatfield. A graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School, Niagara Community College and Tri State University, Indiana, he was a facility manager at Delco Electronics a Div. Of General Motors, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He leave a wife, Judy (Bennett); a son, John and a daughter, Kimberly of Big Bend Wisconsin; a brother, William (Gloria) Pankow, Ashland, Kentucky; a sister, Sue (Jeff) Hoffman, Auburn, Washington; five nieces and other relatives and many friends. A memorial service was held Thursday (June 9th) at Our Shepard Lutheran Church; the Rev. Paul Schroeder officiated.
