Born August 28, 1917, daughter of the late Gustav and Anna (McGill) Werth. Esther married Martin F. Herman, who preceded her in death on July 20, 2003. She was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church, Wheatfield; and had many hobbies including sewing, crocheting, knitting, playing cards, and traveling with the Wheatfield Senior Citizens. Esther was employed for many years at the former G.C. Murphy store in North Tonawanda.
Survivors include three children, Sharon (Lee) Muir, Wayne (Lynda) Herman, and Wesley (Barbara) Herman; a daughter in law, Janet Herman; former daughter in law, Joy Herman; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by a son, "Woody" Herman; and grandson, Rodney Herman. Esther will be sadly missed by everyone, especially friends at the Woodlands Senior Apartments.

LEWISTON — Norbert W. Fuerch, age 93, of Bergholz, was called to his heavenly home on April 22, 2012, at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, after a brief illness. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on April 28, 1918, son of the late William and Katherine (Urtel) Fuerch. Norbert was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, in Bergholz, where he served as a former treasurer, elder and choir member. He was also an exempt member of the Bergholz Fire Company and recently received a life membership, after being a member for 73 years. Norbert served with various positions on committees and was a past treasurer and assistant chief. He was a member of the original Bergholz Fire Company Band and continued playing and marching with the Bergholz German Band. Norbert enjoyed woodworking, gardening and golfing. He was employed for many years as a tool and die maker at St. Mary Manufacturing, in North Tonawanda, until his retirement.

Norbert was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Arlene V. (Ausderau) Fuerch, on June 30, 2010; two brothers, Ronald and Melvin Fuerch, and a sister, Elvera Fuerch.

Survivors include four children, Gerry (Sharon) Fuerch of Bergen, NY, Linda (Randy) Jasulevich of Pendleton, Les (Mary) Fuerch of Bergholz and Duane (Janine) Fuerch of Niagara Falls; seven grandchildren, David, Fay, Kari, Melissa, Matthew, Michael and Rebecca; five great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Bonnie, Alex, Abigail and Norah; and many nieces and nephews.

A 44year employee at the Carborundum Co., Mr. Camann retired in 1979 as a manager in the inventory and production control department. NIAGARA FALLS-Natalie V. Camann. 56. of Sunny Acres. died today (April 18. 1977) at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo after a lengthy illness.
Born in this city, she lived here all her life and was employed by the Carborundum Co in the accounts receivable department for 35 years. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholtz. Survivors include two brothers, Carl W. Camann of North Tonawanda and George H. Camann, both of North Tonawanda; a sister, Mrs. Harold (Doris) Flett of this city and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Lane Funeral Home. Inc. Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Albert Gaal will officiate.
Burial will be in Holy Ghost Cemetery, Bergholtz. Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials to the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church Building Fund or to Roswell Park Memorial lnstitute are acceptable as tributes, the family said.

NORTH TONAWANDA — George H. Camann, age 88, of North Tonawanda on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, after a brief illness. George lived in Bergholtz prior to moving to North Tonawanda in 1953. He worked at the Wurlitzer Company as an Organ Tuner until its closing. He then joined the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1987 after 29 years of service in North Tonawanda.

George was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and 2 Purple Hearts. He was at the Battles of Ardennes, Central Europe, Rhineland and Normandy.

Husband of the late Jean M. (nee Wiseman) Camann. Brother of the late Carl Camann, Natalie Camann, Doris Flett and Anita Edwards.

Beloved father of Joan (David) Lukasavich, George (Ruth) Camann and Carol (John) Dowd, all of North Tonawanda. Proud grandfather of Lynne, Steven (Karrie), Jeffrey (Kelly) Lukasavich, George (Claire) Camann and Valerie (Neil) Haseley. Great-grandfather of Cole, Ella, Reed, Logan, Parker Lukasavich and Margaret, Elizabeth and Georgia Camann. Brother-in-law of Velma Camann and Robert Edwards. Walck (Urtel), age 92, of North Tonawanda, was called to her heavenly home on November 20, 2011 in the Niagara Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center, Buffalo, NY, after a brief illness. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on November 11, 1919 to the late Walter and Elsie (Ostwald) Urtel. She was united in marriage to Ralph W. Walck, who entered into rest on October 2, 1995. Irene was a devoted homemaker, enjoyed sewing and quilting, was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda, and a member of the missionary league.

Survivors include seven children, Dorothy Rothrock of Tonawanda, Ralph Walck, Jr. of Orlando FL, Marcia Walck of North Tonawanda, Sandra Sledziewski of Bergholz, Clair (Cindy) Walck of Niagara Falls, Robert (Susan) Walck and Gordon (Lori) Walck, both of North Tonawanda; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also predeceased by two daughters, Beverly Walck and Patricia Scholl; and a sister, Gladys Urtel.

Doris Nan Denn, 83, of Lewiston, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2019 surrounded by family under the compassionate care of Niagara Hospice. Born on July 8, 1935 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the loving daughter of Norman and Marian (Kay) Urtel.
Nan graduated from LaSalle High School in 1952 and went to work for the Carborundum Company as an Executive Secretary.
She married Thomas Denn at St. Mary’s of the Cataract Church in Niagara Falls on June 18, 1966.
Nan and her family were long-time members of the Niagara Falls Country Club where she was active in the annual Porter Cup golf tournament, serving as housing chairperson for many years. She loved playing bridge, reading and watching golf & tennis.  Her greatest joy was spending time at home with her family and enjoying the activities of her children and grandchildren.
Nan was pre-deceased by her husband of 46 years, Tom.  She is survived by her son Steven (Susan) Denn, daughter Sharon (Darren) Larkins, and four grandchildren. 
The family will be present on Wednesday, March 6 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 901 Cayuga St, Lewiston where a brief service will follow.

Lois M. (Urtel) Oldenburg, 87, of Mentor for the past 55 years, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Lake West Medical Center, Willoughby, OH. She was born September 19, 1931 in North Tonawanda, N.Y.

She was very devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends. She enjoyed socializing with people, making personal connections, and communicating regularly through letter writing, cards, and time spent together. She was a proud supporter of the Mentor Schools and attended many events over the past 50 years as a Mentor resident.

Survivors include her children, Eric (Aura) Oldenburg, Evan A. Koehler, Elise (Rich) Sivcovich and Gary Oldenburg, and grandchildren, Miles and Dillon Oldenburg and Caroline, Anna and Grace Sivcovich.

WHEATFIELD - Harold E. Pankow, a longtime member of St. Johnsburg Fire Company, died Saturday in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after a brief illness. He died a day before his 83rd birthday.
Mr. Pankow was born in North Tonawanda and was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Church. He attended parochial school.
He worked at National Grinding Wheel, Walck's Dairy and the state Department of Transportation, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Pankow had been a fire company member for 50 years. He enjoyed doing crafts and spending his winters in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Jennis A. Walck; a daughter, Betty Cash-Willis of Fort Myers, Fla.; a son, Robin of Rome; two sisters, Lorena Heuer of Port Orange, Fla., and Jane Heuer of Wheatfield; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY on January 31, 1926 to the late William and Charlotte (McGill) Pankow. She was a 1944 graduate of North Tonawanda High School, a lifelong member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Wheatfield, was a loving and devoted mother, and enjoyed cooking.

CONCORD, NC — Janelle Katherine (Fuerch) Eads, 61, of Concord, NC, entered eternal life on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, surrounded in love, with her husband and family at her side. Janelle was born on August 26, 1948, in Niagara Falls, NY to Ronald W. and Edytha E. Fuerch, who predeceased her. Janelle worked at Airco, Inc. in Niagara Falls until 1978, when she followed her dream and moved south, first to South Carolina, and then to Atlanta, GA. There, she married her husband, John Roger Eads in 1980. While Roger pursued his career in the textile industry (often relocating), Janelle took various jobs. Then, in 1985, she accepted a position at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Working first in financial aid, she met many students with little financial resources. Soon, she was bringing them home for meals, laundry, support, et cetera. What happened next was inevitable. She gave her beloved students a home, five of them over a four-year period: No rent; no board; just a home. Today, those students are her family. When Roger moved with his employer to Charlotte, NC, Janelle gave up her job at ECU. In 2001, she was selected as an executive assistant with her present employer, Joe Gibbs Racing. As she would say many times thereafter, "My life was changed forever!" "Where else, she would say, does a company owner have team meetings and personally pray with his people?" The week before Janelle died, Joe prayed with her again. One of her last wishes was that people would, in lieu of sending flowers to her memorial service, donate to the Taylor Gibbs' fundraiser for Make A Wish Foundation of Western North Carolina, 12 S. Tryon Street, Suite 1080, Charlotte, NC 28281, and the Levine Children's Hospital, 1000 Blythe Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203-5812. Janelle is survived by her loving and much-loved husband, John Roger Eads; her beloved sister and brother, Carol A. (Thomas) Hughes and William R. Fuerch, both of Sanborn, NY; many nieces and nephews; her college family, as well as her many pets, all of whom will miss her cheerful sense of humor, endless generosity and love. Memorial services to celebrate Janelle's life were first on Tuesday, July 13th at 4:00 PM at Joe Gibbs Racing Headquarters in Huntersville, NC. Duane A. Fuerch age 58 of Niagara Falls, was called to his heavenly home on January 4, 2015 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Born February 5, 1956 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Norbert and Arlene (Ausderau) Fuerch. Duane was a 1974 graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School, and received his associate's degree from ITT Technical Institute. He was employed as a pipe fitter at Davis-Ulmer Sprinkler Co., Inc. until his disability. A life long member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz; he enjoyed reading, the Bible and music.

Survivors include his wife, Janine (Jasulevich) Fuerch. They were married May 12, 1984; two brothers and a sister, Gerry (Sharon) Fuerch of Pavilion, NY, Linda (Randy) Jasulevich of Pendleton and Les (Mary) Fuerch of Bergholz; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also predeceased by is mother and father in law, Robert and Mary Lou Jasulevich.

Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME (731-3234), 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Philip N. Sallach, on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, corner of Niagara Road and Luther Street. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Ralph W. Walck, Jr. age 74, of Lakewood, Florida. was called to his heavenly home, on July 15, 2022. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on September 14, 1946; Son of the late Ralph and Irene (Urtel) Walck Sr. A graduate of Niagara Wheatfield Senior High School, class of 1964. He was a former member of Holy Ghost Lutheran church, in Bergholz. Ralph enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1967, and served many years as an instructor in the reserves, eventually retiring in 1995, as a Master Sergeant. He received numerous medals during his time served. Ralph enjoyed watching NASCAR races, and was deeply interested in everything military related.Survivors include his sisters Dorothy (Dec'd Richard) Rothrock, Marcia Walck, Sandra (Dean) Durow; brothers, Clair (Cindy) Walck, and Robert (Susan) Walck, Gordon (Lori) Walck; a brother in law, Donald Scholl; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. WHEATFIELD — After a 4-year battle with kidney cancer, Patricia passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was born in Wheatfield, NY, to parents, Irene and the late Ralph Walck. In 1983, she and her husband, Don, moved to Lithonia, Georgia.

Pat worked as a server and lead trainer at Cracker Barrel, and as an administrative assistant at T, T & W for 11 years.



She was the beloved wife of Donald G. Scholl for more than 35 years. She will be forever remembered by her son, Scott by daughter, Jennifer, husband, Jason; by treasured granddaughter, Abigail; beloved siblings, Dorothy, Ralph, Jr., Marcia, Sandra, Clair, Robert, and Gordon; with twelve nieces and nephews; and many friends and extended family members. She was always a caring and a loving person. Her suffering and pain are over, for she is with the Lord.

George W. Pankow Jr., operator of the former Pumpkin Village on Nash Road, died Thursday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He was 64.
Mr. Pankow was born in North Tonawanda and graduated from North Tonawanda High School.
He worked at Ashland Oil Co. and the Chevrolet engine plant in the Town of Tonawanda, but his hobby was growing pumpkins.
Mr. Pankow's father founded Pumpkin Village, a seasonal attraction every fall, on Niagara Falls Boulevard. After his father died in 1981, Mr. Pankow moved it to Nash Road, where it continued into the 1990s.
In the early 1980s, Mr. Pankow and his father also operated the first hydroponic greenhouse to grow tomatoes in Niagara County.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, the former Katherine J. Vossen; a son, Michael S. of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Patricia Snider of Chicago and Mary Childs of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Alice Licht of Wheatfield; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 A.M. Monday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls Boulevard and Ward Road.

Of General Motors, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 7 Year Old Dies of Asphyxia
Linda Pankow, 7, of Ward Rd Town of Wheatfield, died yesterday morning at DeGraff Memorial Hospital of asphyxia due to and acute case of bronchitis. The cause of death wass determined after a post mortem, according to Dr. G. Norris Miner, North Tonawanda Health Officer. Linda was rushed to the hospital by her father, Harold Pankow after he found her stricken in her room. Deputy Sheriffs escorted him to the hospital. Linda's mother Mrs. Jenice Pankow, 30, suffered a fractured ankle, when she fell on a flight of stairs when she hurried to a phone for a doctor. In addition to her parents, Linda is survived by a sister Betty, a brother Robin, and her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. William Pankow, and Mr. and Mrs. Felix Walck. Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm Friday at Fretthold Funeral Home, 1241 Oliver St. the Rev Walter J. Thiemecke officiating. Burial will be in St John's Lutheran Cemetery.
