Mrs. Alma Becker, 72, of 1711 Pierce Ave., today was listed as in "critical" condition at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital where she was admitted Wednesday afternoon after apparently suffering a heart attack at a store at Linwood Ave. and 18th St. By coincidence, fire fighters who were called to the scene to render first aid were led by her brother, Capt. Wilbur Haseley. Oxygen was administered for 25 minutes before Mrs. Becker was sent to the hospital in a Frontier ambulance.

Firefighters To Honor Capt. Haseley
Capt. Wilbur Haseley of the Niagara Falls Fire Department will be honored by his fellow workers at a retirement dinner Thursday at the Crown and Anchor Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. Capt. Haseley retired July 1 after more than 41 years with the department. Born in Sanborn in 1899, Capt. Haseley joined the fire department in 1923 and was appointed engineer in 1932. He became a captain in 1956 and has held that position since.
As a member of the department, he has served under eight fire chiefs. His first fire was in 1923 at 11th Street and Buffalo Avenue. Capt. Haseley plans to visit his daughter in New York City and travel throughout the western part of the country. He and his wife live at 2244 Linwood Ave. They have four children and seven grandchildren.

Sanborn Woman Passes in Hospital after Emergency Operation.
SANBORN, N. Y. - Mrs. Minnie Wendt, 51, of the Lockport road near Sanborn, died last night in DeGraff Memorial hospital, North Tonawanda. where she underwent an emergency operation on December 23. She was a daughter of the late Ferdinand and Minnie Haseley, of the Town of Niagara, and resided in the Saunders Settlement road, to her Lockport road home ten years ago. She was a member of St. Peter's German Lutheran church, of Walmore. She is survived by four-sons, Ervin, of North Tonawanda; Relnert, of Niagara Falls, and Arthur and Herbert, of Sanborn; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Cvetan and Miss Minnie Wendt, of Sanborn; two brothers, Anthony and Hubert Haseley, of Niagara Palls, and five sisters, Mrs. Fred Fahrnwald, Mrs. Philip Fahrnwald and Mrs. Albert Kroening, of Sanborn, and Mrs. Carl Mllleville and Mrs. Edwin DeVantier, of Niagara Falls. Ten grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held from the family home at 2 p. m. Sunday, with services in St. Peter's church at Walmore at 2:30 p. m., the Rev. Edward A. Grabau officiating. SANBORN-Mrs. Albert (Lizzie) Kroening, 65, of 3149 Lockport Road, died Thursday, (March 16, l961) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after a brief illness.
Born in the Town of Niagara, July 13, 1901, She was a daughter of Ferdinand and Wilhelmina Haseley and had lived in this area, all her life.
She was a life member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a member of the Women of the Church organization.
Mrs. Kroening was the widow of Albert E. Kroening Sr., well known area farmer who died in 1965.
Survivors include three sons, Clarence, Edgar and Albert Kroening Jr., all of Sanborn; three sisters, Mrs. Philip (Emma) Fahrnwald, Sanborn, Mrs. Edwin (Lily) DeVantier, and Mrs. Carl (Viola) Milleville, both of Niagara Falls; two brothers, Anthony Haseley, Lockport, and Hubert Haseley, Niagara Falls, and eight grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Pike and Jones Funeral Home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Saturday and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where services will be conducted by Rev. Alfred W. Walck. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

Viola L. Milleville, 92, died Sunday (Dec. 26, 1999) in Schoellkopf Health Center, Niagara Falls, after a brief illness. She had been a patient there for the past few months.
Born Viola Haseley in the Town of Niagara, she worked for a few years at the Nabisco Shredded Wheat plant in Niagara Falls as a biscuit packer before marrying Carl J. Milleville on Oct. 16, 1927.
They operated a dairy farm, which is still run today by their son and grandsons. Her husband died in 1974.
Mrs. Milleville was a member of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens and loved to crochet, make quilts and travel.
Survivors include her son, Wilbert; three daughters Elva Walck, Jean St. John and Lois Bush, all of Sanborn; 16 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday in St. James Lutheran Church, Niagara Road and Rohr Street, Bergholz. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery

WHEATON, IL — Elizabeth W. Milleville, age 94,was called to her heavenly home on June 23, 2012 at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Center in Wheaton, IL. Born on August 13, 1917 in Wheatfield, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rheinard and Alma (Wendt) Ziemendorf.

Elizabeth graduated from North Tonawanda High School and worked for Wendt's Dairy. She married Albert Milleville on July 19, 1947 and was a member of St James Ev. Lutheran Church in Bergholz for more than 60 years, serving as a Sunday School teacher and volunteered in many other areas of the church. Elizabeth was also a 4-H leader and also worked for Hens & Kelly Department Store. Her interests included gardening, reading, and spending time with and caring for family, She was disappointed that she was not able to attend college to become a teacher, so she imparted on family, friends, and acquaintances the importance of education and lifelong learning.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, William Ziemendorf; sister, Jane Ziemendorf; husband, Albert; and daughter, Nancy. Elizabeth is survived by children, Dan (Marcia) of Arnold, MD, and Jon (Cathy) of Wheaton, IL; a brother, Lloyd Ziemendorf; grandchildren, Shawn (Diane) , Nathan (Kristina), Andrew (Emily), Laura, and Ken; great-grandchild, Beata; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered as a Christian, a cookie-maker, a gardener and a caretaker.

Mr. Ziemendorf was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving from 1942 until 1946. He was employed at Wendt's Dairy in Niagara Falls as a plant engineer for 37 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn, where he served as Elder and Treasurer. He was also a lay delegate of the Eastern District Church Council (sic) of the American Lutheran Church. He was a member of the National Association of Power Engineers, the Western New York Historical Society and the. American Legion Post No. 969 in Sanborn, where he was treasurer 30 years. He was an exempt member of the Sanborn Fire Company. He was past president of the Niagara Falls Chapter of the Lay Society Diabetic Association. He. was a former member of the Town of Wheatfield Board of Assessment Review.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Patterson) Ziemendorf of the Town of Wheatfield; two daughters, Beverly J. Ziemendorf and Sarah A. Coffey, both of Sanborn; two sons, Robert W. Ziemendorf of Scarborough, Ont., and Brian L. Ziemendorf of Niagara Falls; a sister, Elizabeth Milleville of Sanborn; a brother, Lloyd V. Ziemendorf of Niagara Falls; and seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jane Ziemendorf.

YOUNGSTOWN — James W. Strasburg, of Youngstown, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, NY. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on October 24, 1920, the son of the late Robert and Violet (Wendt) Strasburg.

Mr. Strasburg graduated from Niagara Falls High School and had attended Cornell University. He served with the US ARMY Air Corps as a 1st Lt. during World War II and later served for 26 years with the Air Force Reserve, 914th Carrier Group as a navigator, before retiring in 1970. Mr. Strasburg was the sales manager for Wendt's Dairy from 1947 until 1965 and had owned and operated a dry-cleaners and Laundromat for several years. He then became the Vice President of the Food Service Division with Tops Markets, from 1965 to 1991, where he became a consultant for Tops, from 1991 until retiring in 1994.

Mr. Strasburg is survived by his wife, Roberta M. (Wilson) Strasburg; one son, Stephen (Debra) Strasburg of Ann Arbor, MI; two daughters, Susan (Stephen) Hartman of Sioux Falls, SD and Cynthia (John) Koeneman of Barrington, IL; three-step daughters, Diane (Garry) Carr of Youngstown, NY, Denise (Dennis) Hoover of Ransomville, NY and Debra (Andy) Roberts of Niagara Falls, ON. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, fourteen step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Allen Strasburg, Alice (Arnold) Becken, Ruth (John) Schnadeeck.

She attended local schools and graduated from LaSalle Senior High School in 1940. She was awarded a scholarship to Syracuse University where she earned a degree in Interior Design. She married Sidney G. Walton, her high school sweetheart in 1944, and they raised their family in Niagara Falls, Lewiston, Orchard Park and Youngstown. As her children grew, she studied at Buffalo State Teachers College, earning a degree in Art Education and subsequently taught art at Lewiston-Porter Central School District for eighteen years.
She volunteered her keyboard skills as a substitute organist at several Lutheran Churches where she has membership over the years. She was also active in local garden clubs, an extension of her love of color and design.  She undertook the learning of loom weaving and was for many years a member of weaving clubs locally and in Queenston, Ontario. Predeceased in 2014 by her beloved husband after 70 years of marriage, she remains the dearly loved mother of Judith (James) Condino, Robbie (Larry) Krizan, Bradley (Debbie) Walton, Tim (Kelly) Walton and Sidney Jr. “Skip” (Gayle) Walton. She leaves behind 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her sisters Merilyn Jove and Virginia McKenzie. She was 96. NO PRIOR VISITATION. A resident of Wilmette, IL for over 50 years, she was an active member of the Wilmette Women's Club and Wilmette Lutheran Church. She was an avid bridge player and passed on a love of reading and history to her children.

On Thursday, January 8, 2015, Virginia Goerss Wendt McKenzie entered peacefully into her eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ after a long battle with diabetes. Virginia was born January 25, 1929, the youngest of three daughters of the late Edwin and Mabel Wendt in Niagara Falls, New York.
Virginia attended Cayuga Drive Elementary School and LaSalle High School where she achieved high honors. After leaving high school, Virginia pursued higher education as a music (Organ) major at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio where she met her husband to be, Angus Donald McKenzie (who was attending college at Case University in Cleveland) at a blind date dance. They married on June 23, 1951 and over the next 10 years adopted three children through the Lutheran Service Society. They moved from their home on Cayuga Island to Youngstown, NY in 1971. Virginia was predeceased by her husband on October 22, 2011, shortly after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.
Virginia was an accomplished organist and used her talent to the Glory of God at Grace Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. For a short time she worked in the accounting department at Wendt’s, her father’s dairy. Besides being a loving homemaker and mother to her children, Virginia donated considerable amounts of time to organizations in Niagara Falls such as the Niagara Falls Little Theater, The Niagara Falls Service League, President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, and the Tatler Club of Niagara Falls.
Virginia is survived by her three children, Mary (Brian) Dumont and Craig (Diane) McKenzie, both of Midlothian, VA, Rob (Carolyn) McKenzie of Ransomville, NY. Five grandchildren - Amber, Nathan (Angela), Mallory, Kyle and Kayleigh. Two great-grandchildren - Victoria Lynn and Rob Roy. She is also survived by her sister Win (late Sidney) Walton, her sister-in-law Judy (late Bob) Watterson and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sister Marlie (late Bob) Jove.
Funeral arrangements are being made through the Lane Funeral Home (which will be announced at a later date). Internment will be at the Oakland Rural Cemetery in Youngstown, NY. Donald William Wendt, formerly of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009, in Grand Rapids, MI. He was born April 20, 1920, in Sanborn, NY, the son of William B. and Grace E. Wendt. Mr. Wendt attended grade school at St. Andrews Lutheran School and LaSalle High School and Trott vocational school. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers attached to the Air Force from 1942 until 1946 in the Azores' Islands. He was also stationed at Eniwetok, Saipan, Tinian Island and Okinawa. After being honorably discharged he was employed for 42 years as an Engineer for the Niagara Junction Railway and later Conrail, retiring in December of 1981. Mr. Wendt, together with his beloved wife, Dorothy became successful entrepreneurs in the opening of Wendt's Propane Gas in 1952. The company was a major supplier of propane gas to the massive Robert Moses Power Project on the Niagara River in the early sixties as well as many local customers. He was a former member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Sanborn for many years and then joined The First Assembly of God Church in Niagara Falls. Mr. Wendt was very fond of traveling, gardening, construction, hunting and fishing. He was the husband of fifty-four years to the late Dorothy Helen (Walck) Wendt, who died in January of 2006. Together they are the parents of Gary (Jacquelyn) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Douglas ( Marion) of Grand Rapids, MI and Susan of Lockport, NY; three brothers, Glenn (Jean), Kenneth (Dianne), Forrest (late Gail) Wendt; a sister, Gracelyn (late John) Bilek, all of Sanborn, NY; brother-in-law of Norine and Darla Wendt; also survived by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. SANBORN - Marvin W. Wendt, 73, of Shenk Road, a Niagara County legislator from 1978 to 1991, died Tuesday (Aug. 20, 1996) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston.
He was born on Nov. 23, 1922, in Cambria, the son of William and Grace Wendt. On June 17, 1944, he married the former Ruth O. Belling in St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Marvin W. Wendt North Tonawanda.

From 1978 to 1991, Mr. Wendt served as a Niagara County legislator.

Marvin W. Wendt, a self-employed well driller and excavator and a Niagara County legislator for 13 years, died Tuesday (Aug. 20, 1996) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston.
Wendt, 73, of Shenk Road was born in the Town of Cambria and had been a lifelong resident of Sanborn.

Bertram F. Wendt, 74, a cymbal player in the Sanborn Fire Company Band since 1945, died Sunday (Jan. 23, 2000) in Sisters Hospital after a long illness.
Wendt had joined the fire company in 1943, but his passion was the fire company's award-winning 60-piece marching band. In an interview with The Buffalo News in July 1999, he said, "The band comes first -- besides my church."
So dedicated was Wendt that he kept playing the cymbals in a wheelchair during the last three years of parades, because a back injury kept him from marching fast enough to keep up with his band mates.
"Back in '95, I injured my back trying to restart a snow blower after it stalled," Wendt said in the interview. "When I pulled the cord, it kicked back and twisted my back. Then the arthritis set in."
A Sanborn native, Wendt attended local elementary schools and Trott Vocational High School in Niagara Falls.
He worked at Hoover's Dairy in Sanborn, and then at A.E. Gombert Lumber Co. in North Tonawanda before taking a job as a mill worker and truck driver at Sanborn Milling Co. for more than 20 years. In later years, he delivered flowers every spring for Sanborn Greenhouse.
Wendt served six years on the fire company board of directors. When he became an exempt member, he took up fire police duties and served as fire police captain from 1981 to 1996.
On Jan. 11, 1992, the Town of Lewiston presented him its first firemen's incentive award.
Wendt was a longtime member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wheatfield. He was a church trustee for eight years, Sunday school secretary for 20 years and custodian of St. Peter's Lutheran School for 29 years.
He was a former member of the LaSalle Sportsmen's Club and an avid fan of the New York Yankees.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, the former Norine M. Walck; three daughters, Sally A. Kelley of Cleveland, TN., and Laurie L. Draper and Darlene C. Giannini, both of Wheatfield; five brothers, Donald, Glenn, William B. Jr., Kenneth, and Forrest; a sister, Gracellyn Bilek; and four grandchildren.

Glenn L. Wendt of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017, in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, NY. He was born at home in Sanborn on May 7, 1930, the son of the late William B. and Grace E. (Wendt) Wendt. Mr. Wendt attended Trott Vocational High School. He worked with his uncle at Wendt Frozen Foods in Buffalo before taking over the family farm and sold Minneapolis Moline tractors. Mr. Wendt worked construction with Smith Brothers and became an operating engineer with Operating Engineer Local 463, until retiring in 1995. He was a life-member of the Sanborn Fire Company, where he served as President and Fire Chief. He had been on every truck committee since 1966 up until the two last fire trucks were purchased. He was active in all the fire companies' activities. Mr. Wendt served as Past President of Niagara County Fire Chiefs Association, FASNY and many other fire related associations. He was a member of the Sanborn Historical Society and Holy Ghost Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and NASCAR. William B. Wendt Jr., a former Town Board member, died Wednesday (Jan. 28, 2004) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was 71.
A lifelong area resident, he attended local schools.
Wendt served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1960, partly during the Korean War, aboard the USS Cainard.
"Junior," as he was known by many, was a well driller and plumber most of his working career. His business card for Ken Wendt's Propane Gas Service, said "Jr. Wendt, Jack of All Trades." He retired in 1989.
A Cambria Town Board member during the mid- to late 1970s, he was an exempt member and former treasurer of Sanborn Fire Company and was a bass drummer in the company's marching band.
Wendt was past president and treasurer of Niagara County Volunteer Firemen's Association. For many years, he was judge for the association's volunteer firemen parades.
He was past commander of the Sanborn American Legion post and a former member of the Sanborn Lions Club, serving as chairman of the annual chowder sale for several years.
Wendt was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, the former Darla Wackett; two daughters, Tammy Payne and Laura Lee Wiepert, both of Ransomville; a son, Richard of North Tonawanda; four brothers, Donald, Glenn, Kenneth and Forrest, all of Sanborn; a sister, Gracellyn Bilick of Sanborn; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was a Seabee with the U.S. Navy, during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a painter with Lou Anastasi, with his brother, Donald, at Wendt's Gas and with Niagara Mohawk for several years. Ken started Ken Wendt's Propane Gas Service in Sanborn in 1968, which he continued to operate for the next 35 years. He was a State and National officer with the Seabee Veterans of America, a member of the Island X-8 Tonawanda Seabees and chairman of the Seabee Monument Committee on River Road. He was a member of the Sanborn Fire Co. for 58 years and a member of the Fire Companies Exempts, NYSFA. Ken was active in the Sanborn Community over the years as a member of the, Sanborn Lions Club, the Niagara Central Rotary Club and the Sanborn Historical Society. He will always be remembered, for his "Can Do" attitude. Ken is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dianne S. (Sawyer) Wendt; three sons, Mark K. (Maria) Wendt of Waldorf, MD, Paul R. John Fitch Succumbs to Long Illness
John W. Fitch of 37 Lakewood Village, Medina, died Wednesday at Medina Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born July 21, 1901, in the Town of Newstead, he was the son of Jacob and Mary (Lindke) Fitch. He. had been a farmer for several years, a carpenter, had owned and operated a grocery store in Barker, and operated a trailer court in Barker for 14 years before his retirement in 1963. He was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, and the Wolcottsville Golden Agers. Mr. Fitch was the husband of Mabel Fitch, father of Mrs. Leslie (Marian) Sharpsteen of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Melvin (Dorothy) Jago of Wolcottsville, the Rev. Norman Lindke, 28, of Wolcottsville, was arrested Tuesday evening at Akron by Sheriff's Deputies Henry Becker and Hiram Bordwell on a warrant charging abandonment. He was remanded to Niagara county Jail in default of $1000 bail to await a hearing Friday, Aug. 29, before Peace Justice Mortimer O. Wilcox, Royalton. The warrant was issued late in July but deputies were unable to locate Lindke until Tuesday.

LOCKPORT. Feb. 22.-The funeral
of Hubert Bruning. 27 years old, of
the West Lake road, Olcott,, who was
Injured fatally Saturday night when
his automobile was hit by a Lockport-
Olcott trolley car at Corwln crossing,
six miles north of the city, will be held
tomorrow afternoon at the home at
2:30 o'clock with the Rev. Herman
Meier, of Lockport. officiating. Interment
will be at West Shelby.
Bruning. who was employed at the
Simonds Saw and Steel company plant
In this city, was driving home on the
Lockport-Oleott road at the time of
the accident. An International Railway
company trolley car. operated by
Morris Butler, of 309 Church street.
Lockport. was en route from Olcott
to this city.
The trolley hit the automobile and
carried It about 25 feet, according to
Sheriff Fred A. Blgalow. The automobile
was wrecked and the trolley
was crippled by the crash. Bruning
died of head injuries en route to the
City hospital here in an automobile
of Leonard Case of Olcott. Dr. Frank
T Carmer, coroner, of Newfane, is
investigating and will hold an inquest
the date of which has not been set.
Bruning was born in the Town of
Royalton where he lived mast of his
life. He leaves his widow. Edith, three

Norman Lindke Succumbs to Long Illness
Middleport - Norman W. Lindke, 19 Orchard St. Middleport, died yesterday at his home following a long illness. Mr. Lindke was born March 22, 1913 in the Town of Royalton, the son of Martin and Sophronia (Bruning) Lindke. He had been a farmer on the Ditch Road in Middleport for several years and has lived in the village for the past 15 years. He was also a construction worker for several years and was a member of Labor Union Local 91 and St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville. He was the husband of Viola M. Lindke, father of Karen Fullworth, Mrs. Marvin (Deborah) Frey and Mrs. Douglas (Bonnie) Burdick, all of Middleport, and the late Richard Norman Lindke and Viola Marie Lindke; he is also survived by eight grandchildren and two step grandchildren. Friends may call today 2-4, 7-9 at the Bates, Wallace and Heath Funeral Home Inc. 36 State St., and Saturday 1-2 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Clergyman and Son Killed in Auto Crash
A former Lockport resident and his teenage son were fatally injured Saturday (Nov 3, 1966) in the collision of his auto and a tractor-trailer truck near Balaton, Minn. Dead are the Rev. Walter Lindke, 49, and his son Donald, 17. Another passenger in the car, unidentified by the pastor's family in the area, was also killed. The son of Frederick and Anna Lindke, the Rev. Lindke was born in Wolcottsville, where he received his early education. He began his study for the ministry at Houghton College and was graduated from Concordia College in Springfield, Ill. Mr. Lindke served churches in Washington D.C., Missouri and Illinois before going to St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Bolton two years ago. He formerly lived in Barker and Lockport, and at one time was employed by the Upson Company. Surviving are his widow, Bertha, three sons and a daughter, James, Thomas, Allan and Lois, all of Balaton; Also his mother, Mrs. Anna Lindke of Wolcottsville, and two sisters,Mrs. Sylvia Winslow and Mrs. Lillian Ziegler of Wolcottsville. Funeral services will be held a t 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Balaton, Minn.

Sylvia Nora Mahar, owner of Mahar Farms for 60 years, died Tuesday (March 25, 2003) in Newfane Inter-Community Memorial Hospital. She was 90. Born Sylvia Haseley, she was a lifelong resident of this area and operated the family farm with her husband, Emmett J., from 1943 until his death in 1960. She continued to run the farm with the help of her children. She also worked for 10 years at Southland Foods in Barker. Mrs. Mahar was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville. She loved watching hummingbirds and growing African violets. Survivors include three sons, David of Wilson, James of Middleport and Larry of Gasport; a daughter, Linda McDonough of Olcott; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in St. Michael's Church, 6379 Wolcottsville Road, Akron. Burial will be in Hartland Central Cemetery.

WILSON - Funeral services will be held Monday for Lawrence E. Haseley, 65, of 415 Young St., who died unexpectedly Thursday (May 1, 1980) after collapsing while playing golf. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Lockport Memorial Hospital. He was born in Cambria, son of the late Christian and Rosa Wittcop Haseley. He had retired April 1 after 43 years employment at Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors. At the time of his retirement he was a production scheduler. Haseley was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and past superintendent of the Sunday school. He was a member of the Harrison golf team. He is survived by his wife, Winifred Ruth Johnston; three sons, Carl, of Biloxi, Miss., Daniel, of Rochester, and the Rev. Chief yeoman Walter H. Becker and Sergeant Technician Louis H. Becker, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Louis G. Becker, of 1711 Pierce avenue, recently visited their parents after a short leave and furlougs. Chief Yeoman Walter has been a member of the United States Coast Guard for the last five years and has served in several ratings at sea and in various stations along the Great Lakes. At present he is assigned to recruiting duty at the Naval District headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a graduate of the Trott Vocational school and completed several rating courses including one in navigation at Cornell University. He has successfully completed the required examination for officer's training at the Coast Guard academy, New London, Conn., and expects to be transferred in the near future. Prior to his enlisting he was employed in the shipping and planning departments of the Carborundum company. At the present Sergeant Technician Louis is stationed at Camp Pendleton, Va. He has served in the army for the last 18 months, prior to which he served an enlistment in the Navy and an enlistment in the Coast Guard, having been honorably discharged as a machinist's mate, second class in May, 1941. He was employed by the E. I. duPont de Nemours and company before enlisting in the United States Army.

Coast Guard Veteran and Realtor
Both Walter and Marion were born near Niagara Falls, New York, Walter on his father's farm, the third of five children. One memory of this time pictures him riding a blind horse to a one-room country school. Unable to sell their produce during the Depression, the family moved into town. Walter was very involved in scouting, an eagle scout and counselor. Growing in "words" he was the editor of his high school yearbook. He and Marion met at a Walther League skating party and were married in 1941. After high school, Walt worked for several local companies, but then followed his brother in joining the Coast Guard. He was first a "surfman" on Lake Erie, still near home. Then, he struck for the yeoman rate, "because they got liberty every night." Successive assignments brought him into recruiting duty in the upper Mid-west at the beginning of World War II. He swore-in drafts of men throughout the region and moved them to boot camp. His and Marion's first child, Wayne, was conceived just before the War, while they were in Detroit, and born in the summer of 1942, on the day of the Battle of Midway. Walter was subsequently transferred to Ketchikan, Alaska, which was being built up as an anchor for resistance to a feared Japanese invasion proceeding down the Aleutian Chain. Walter became a chief yeoman assisting in the setup. The young family waited in a house they bought in Niagara Falls, the first of Walter's many houses, later sold to Marion's parents. As the months and years went by, the fear of an invasion of Alaska diminished and the family was brought together. Their second child, Sandy, was born in the Territory of Alaska just after the War ended. Walter remained in the Coast Guard, and was transferred to Cleveland, living in Army housing forty-five miles distant, then to Baltimore, helping run the procurement and supply functions of the Coast Guard's primary ship yard. He bought another house near Baltimore which he kept and rented out during future transfers. The family moved to Portsmouth in the early 1950's, first living in Westhaven, and then in Cradock, and, life-long Lutherans, joined Redeemer. Walter worked in the Coast Guard district office in Norfolk, made warrant officer and went to sea as the supply officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Ingham doing "weather patrol" in the North Atlantic. He was then assigned to the aircraft repair and supply base in Elizabeth City, (the only place he didn't buy a house,) and then as the supply officer at the air station in Traverse City, Michigan. They returned to Portsmouth, and the house in Cradock, and Redeemer, in 1963, where Walter was the executive officer of the Coast Guard supply base, from which he retired from the Coast Guard in 1965. When Walter left the Service, he continued in the Real Estate profession for which all these moves had prepared him, and he and Marion made their final move to their present home in Deep Creek, valuing Redeemer (and their Redeemer) all the way!

Walter Becker died this past Tuesday at the age of 93. Looking back on his life, I see three themes: a drive to develop himself and subsequent accomplishment, real friendship and compassion for others.
Childhood
Walter was born on a farm in up-state New York, near Niagara Falls, in 1916. There are stories of his riding a blind horse to school, having a job to get there early to start a fire in the stove that heated the one-room schoolhouse. His family moved to town during the Depression. He accomplished a lot, for his beginnings. He was the editor of his school paper, an Eagle scout and scouting counselor. He had one really good friend that he remembered well through the course of his progressive dementia, telling a particular joke, he'd say: ... "old Cocky Hidlebrant, that used to crack him up." Dad had a nickname: "Peaceful." There are things from this upbringing that he carried through life: farming/gardening, a love of outdoors, and an enjoyment of people. He met his wife to be, Marion, at a Lutheran Youth skating party. They were married in 1941, had two children and stayed together for 64 years, through thick and thin, and lots of moves, until she died in 2005. ... please see the pictures!
Work
Walter worked at several jobs before joining the Coast Guard just before WWII, where he was Surfman at a shore station, seaman on a ship on the great lakes, struck for yeoman rate because he said they got liberty every night; was a recruiter in Detroit and a very young CPO when WWII began, we just donated photos of these times to the Coast Guard's history archives -- then he was transferred to Ketchikan, Alaska, when my Mother and I stayed in Niagara Falls in the first
of many houses they bought. In 1945, we were able to join him, and Sandy was born in the Territory of Alaska in 1946. ... then he was transferred to Cleveland, then Baltimore doing procurement for their shipyard, to here, Portsmouth, in the early 1950's, he and Marion joined this church, he worked at the Coast Guard district office in Norfolk, then sailed on the CGC Ingham --- please see the pictures --- then Elizabeth City Air Station, and the CG's Traverse City, Michigan Air Station, as its supply officer, and, by choice, back here as Executive Officer of the Portsmouth Supply Office, and into retirement.
Business Here:
Following his retirement from the Coast Guard, he worked selling real estate, put his heart into it, and, in a few years, formed his own company. He came to own 40 or 50 houses, which he rented. He continued hunting and fishing and gardening: ...( there was one transfer with chickens on the fender, raised rabbits in Cradock, bought a small farm, with horses, he called "Becker's 7 acres," out on Jollif Road.) He always had a large vegetable garden planted in the spring. As he grew older, fellowship with other men became more important. Active in all sorts of clubs and
organizations ... Ruritans, Masons, businessmen's organizations, Isaac Walton league and other outdoors groups. His meeting with the Boys at McDonald's was a morning routine.
Outlook
He saw life in terms of people. He loved his grandchildren. He and Marion contributed substantially to their educations. He was generous in many ways. On one occasion, he made a substantial loan to a man to establish himself in business, failing to repay, he and I visited the man .... he listened to his needs, understood, described himself as a Christian and lent him more money, to my mother's dismay. He supported a number of home buyers and renters. Walter continued to work well into his increasingly frail 80's, managing his rental properties and taking his truck around to make repairs. He also enjoyed researching and picking stocks; his adviser said he did as well as many of the pros. He became a "gentle person", as some elderly men do, always courteous, loving. If he was known for one thing, it is compassion. He would watch television and cry in sympathy with children and animals. His compassion extended to his business relations; many people have said: "I owe Walter Becker my home; I wouldn't be here, but for him." Through the years, a couple of younger men adopted him as "father." He was a good man.
His Disease
For the last good-many years, Walter suffered from progressive dementia; he became more and more distant. In his better years, he collected jokes, later, he got them more jumbled and lost the punch lines, and eventually didn't recognize them. The Spring came when he no longer planted his garden. Marion cared for Walter until her death in 2005, when Sandy moved in with him, and tended to his needs. When he got worse, we moved him to Deep Creek Manor, off George Washington Highway, in Chesapeake. Grant Goldman, Maggie Boone and Alma Lawrence did a great job with him. But, as time went on, still more of his old 'self' was nibbled away. Each trip I made, he was noticeable more diminished, but we could also sense: "He's still in there." Four years ago, we got what proved good advice from an African man who saw Dad enter the hotel for my daughter's wedding: "Don't be sorry for what he's lost, appreciate what's left." Walter seemed to remain happy, it seemed a grace that the disease progressed ahead of his awareness of it. For us it has been what Nancy Regan called a "long goodbye." After each rush to the emergency room recently, he returned less capable. I arrived on Tuesday, coming down to consider placing him in hospice care; he died an hour after I arrived, with my sister and me there, not in apparent pain. God's timing is perfect.

Looking back on his life, I see a drive to develop himself to do, real friendship and compassion for others. We want to express our appreciation the people at DCM, Dr. Kuo, the people of the Church, the friends who have stuck with him, especially Bill Barlow, who visited him to the end, even as he saw him deteriorate, and Pastor Becker, who, visited him most weeks through his last years ... and to recognize, my sister Sandy, who visited him most days. Thank you all; thank God!

Verna Elizabeth Walsh (nee Becker), 95, of Austin, TX, passed away April 27, 2016. Verna was born in Lewiston, NY, on September 10, 1920 to Louis and Alma Becker. As a young child, she lived on a farm and attended a one-room schoolhouse. Her family eventually moved to Niagara Falls, NY, and she graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1939. In 1942 she married her high school sweetheart, Burt. She was a wonderful homemaker, and together they raised four children. She was a good cook and enjoyed creating oil paintings, making ceramics, and other artistic pursuits. Above all, she was a great wife and mother. In 1962, the family moved to the Chicago area so Burt could attend school at DeVry Tech for a year. After he graduated in 1963, the family moved to Long Beach, California, where he got a job working for aerospace contractor North American Aviation as an electronic technician. Later the family moved to El Paso, TX, when Burt was transferred to White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico to work on the launch escape system for the Apollo space program. In 1966, they moved again, this time to Titusville, FL, for his job at Kennedy Space Center. Burt continued working on the Apollo space program during the space race and the moon landing in 1969. Unfortunately, he became ill and died in 1976. Two years later, Verna moved to Austin, TX, to be near her daughter and son and his family. She resided in Austin until her death. She is survived by her children, Evelyn (George), Douglas (Linda), Nancy (Theo), and Allan; her grandchildren, Paul (Emily), Alyson (Peter), John (Caitlin), George/Billy, Bryn, and Jessie; her great-grandchildren, David, Matthew, Joseph, Anne, and Rachel; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Burton J. Walsh; her siblings, Herbert, Louis, Walter, and Irene; and her grandson, Brian. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at Senior Care at Onion Creek and at South Austin Medical Center during her final days. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A native of Pendleton, the former Gladys M. Hasley was a member of Cheer Rebekah Lodge in Newfane and a past district deputy of the Rebekahs
She also was a member of Quaker Road United Methodist Church, Johnson Creek Senior Citizens, Newfane Grange 1292 and the auxiliaries of Aerie 825, Fraternal Order of Eagles, in Lockport and the Hartland Conservation Club of Newfane.

NORTH TONAWANDA - Ardis R. DuBois, age 89, of Wheatfield, was called peacefully to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on October 4, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Ida (Ellman) Haseley. A graduate of North Tonawanda High School, she was a lifelong member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Wheatfield, where she served on the Altar Guild and member of the Women Of The Church. Ardis was also a member of the Wheatfield Seniors and did volunteer work at ElderWood Health Care at Crestwood, and the Niagara County Nutrition Program. She enjoyed reading and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Gary Wolf of Wheatfield; daughter, Barbara (Russell) Grillo of Riverside, CA; two stepsons, Douglas (Barbara) DuBois of Amherst, and Cal (Lisa) DuBois of Sanborn; six grandchildren, Kristy (Brian) Williams, Stacy (Chris) Grubbs, Stephen Grillo, Kelley Grillo, Danielle DuBois, Jeffrey DuBois; two great-grandsons, Brandon and Jacob Williams; a sister, Beatrice Wolf of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law, Louise Bish of Tonawanda, and several nieces and nephews. Wilbur J. Haseley, an executive of Moore Business Forms Inc., died Thursday (Sept. 28, 1961) at Roswell Park Memorial Hospital, Buffalo. He was 39 years old. Mr. Haseley, a native of Niagara Falls, was manager of Moore's special service department at the Buffalo Avenue plant. He joined the company here as an order taker in 1948. He and his family returned to Niagara Falls last September when be was promoted to the special service position. The family lives at 2434 Linwood Ave.

He served as field order supervisor of Moore's Boston sales office from 1951 to 1956 and then became planning and service supervisor at Moore's Thurmont, Md., plant. He was the son of Fire Captain and Mrs. Wilbur P. Haseley, this city. He is a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and Niagara University. He also attended Northeastern University and Boston College. In 1942 he joined the Army Air Forces and served as a tail gunner on a combat bomber. He participated in the first air raids on Rumania's Ploesti oil fields. His discharge came in 1945. The executive was a member of the American Legion and Lions Club in Thurmont and belonged to the Industrial Management Club, Moore's Credit Union, Old Timers Club, and Athletic Association. Donald Robert Haseley, 97 years old, of Mooresville, NC passed away on Tuesday November 2, 2022. Don was born in Niagara Falls, NY to Caroline and Wilbur Haseley. In 1925 he graduated from Trott High School in Niagara Falls. After high school, Don enlisted in the Navy and served on a submarine in the Pacific during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge after the war, he returned to Niagara Falls and enjoyed a long and successful career with Dupont. Upon his retirement Don and Dorothy settled in Mooresville, NC. Don was an active veteran attending numerous submarine reunions in Galveston, TX and other activities honoring veterans in Richards Coffee Shop in Mooresville. He was the last surviving member of his WWII submarine crew. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by Dorothy Haseley his wife of 66 years; one sister and two brothers. He is survived by two children, Bruce Haseley of Scottsdale, AZ and Rob Haseley of Mooresville, NC; three grandchildren Katie, Hilary and Chris; and four great grandchildren Luke, Baylor, Noah and Dak. Gerald R. “Gerry” Haseley passed from this earthly life on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family while under Niagara Hospice care. He was born in Niagara Falls on September 19, 1929, a son of the late Wilbur and Caroline (Steinbrenner) Haseley. He attended local schools including the former Trott Vocational High School. 

Mr. Haseley was employed for 35 years as a crew leader for the City of Niagara Falls Waste Water Treatment Plant and then transferred in that position to the Niagara Falls Convention Center retiring in 1985. 

Gerry was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on Walmore Road. He also was a very active longtime member of the Town of Niagara Lion’s Club and was involved with the Lion’s in local parades and in fundraising events. He also loved to play Pool and Euchre with his many friends and teammates at Crestwood Commons and his favorite activity was going for coffee with the boys.   “Everyone loved Gerry”. 

Survivors include his daughters Bonnie (David Jr.) Bolea of Southport, North Carolina and Deborah (Jose) Busquet of Las Vegas, Nevada, a brother Donald (late Dorothy) Haseley of North Carolina, six grandchildren: Hiede (Dale) Erickson, Michelle McAnulty, Cheryl (Luis) Maldonado, Steven McAnulty, David M. (Rhonda) Bolea and Michael McAnulty, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Jean Ann Penman (2013), two brothers Wilbur & Alfred Haseley and a sister Sandra Anscomb. 

There will be no prior visitation. Friends are invited to attend services and a celebration of Gerry’s life on Friday October 27, 2017 at 11 A.M. in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 6168 Walmore Road. Town of Wheatfield with Rev. Tom Thorstad and Rev. Jon Haseley co-officiating. A luncheon will follow in the St. Peter’s School immediately after the service.

SANBORN. Jan. 26.-Edwin Haseley, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Haseley of the Tuscarora road, south of this village, is confined to the Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Niagara Falls. with a fractured skull as the result of a coon hunting episode. The accident happened Thursday night and the youth is still unconscious and reported to be in very serious condition.
Haseley was walking through a grove near his home on Thursday evening with some other boys when they saw what they believed to be a coon up one of the trees. In an attempt to dislodge the animal a heavy limb was broken from the tree which fell, striking Haseley on the head. He was taken to the hospital where he was found to be suffering from a severe fracture.

Edwin Haseley, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Antone (sic) Haseley, Tuscarora road, south (sic) of Sanborn, died at 8:15 o'clock last evening in Mount St. Mary's hospital of a skull fracture. The youth was admitted to the hospital Thursday, victim of an unusual hunting accident.

He was taken to the hospital unconscious and did not regain consciousness before his death.
The youth is survived by his parents; a brother, Harvey; three sisters, Frances, Hilda and Irma. Funeral services will be held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 o'clock in the Walmore Lutheran church. Burial will be in the Walmore Lutheran cemetery.

Haseley Funeral Held
SANBORN, Feb. 2-The funeral of Edwin Haseley, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Antone (sic) Haseley of the Tuscarora Road who died, on Monday evening, at Mount St. Mary's Hospital at Niagara Falls of a skull fracture, which was held from the family home Wednesday at two o'clock and 2:30 at Walmore church was one of the largest ever held in this section. The bearers were: Philip Wittcop, Clarence Wittcop, Hubert Bentel (sic), Norman Pockelwaldt, Albert Pfhul (sic) and E. Deidtreich (sic). The Rev. Edward Granbau (sic) officiated. Burial was at Walmore Lutheran cemetery.

TOWN OF CAMBRIA - Frances A.. (Haseley) Walck, 81, of Lockport Road, died Sunday (Jan. 2, 1994) at her residence, after a long illness.
She was born in the Town of Niagara on Feb. 2, 1912, to Anthony and Hulda (Kroening) Haseley.
She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn. She loved cooking and gardening.
She and her husband, Edwin D. Walck were married June 17, 1934. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Donald Walck and Darrell Walck, both of Lockport; one daughter, Suzanne Milleville of Wheatfield; one brother, Harvey Haseley of Sanborn; one sister, Irma Haseley of the Town of Lewiston; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Bergholz. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter' s Lutheran. Church, 6167 Walmore Road,. Sanborn, with the Rev. Ronald Majeroni :officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Wheatfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Entrance Fund, or to Niagara Hospice.

The former Frances A. Haseley was a native of the Town of Niagara.

Harvey H. Haseley, of Sanborn, NY, entered into eternal rest and his heavenly home on Saturday March 1, 2003, at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89 years.
He was born on May 29, 1913, in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, the son of Anthony and Hulda [ Kroening ] Haseley. At an early age, he was raised by the Fahrnwald Family, Fred, Rose and Phillip, Emma, on the family farm, in Sanborn, now, the Power View Farm, well known as a prize winning farm for raising Registered Holstein Cattle, grain and hay, where he has worked all his life. He was a Charter Member of the Niagara County Milk Producer's. Mr. Haseley was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Walmore.
He was predeceased, by his wife of 67 years, Elvira M. [ Fedeler ], who died November 11, 2002.
Surviving are his children, Lois Burkhardt [ late Sam ] , of Lockport, Niagara County, NY; Helen Buerger [ William ] of Sanborn; Roy Haseley [ Eileen ] of Sanborn; Margaret Ewald [ Ralph ] of Ransomville; Howard Haseley [ late Linda ] of Sanborn; Karen Hicks [ Donald ] of Bluff City, TN; Nelson Haseley [ Barbara ], of Sanborn; a sister Irma Haseley, of Sanborn; 23 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Edwin Haseley, Hilda Wendt and Frances Walck.
The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, from 7- 9 P.M. Thursday and 1 - 4 & 7 - 9 P.M. Friday.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 am, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 6168 Walmore Road, with the Rev. Bruce Gamache, officiating.

SANBORN - Hilda Florence (Haseley) Wendt, 66, of 5322 Town Line Road died unexpectedly Friday (Sept. 25, 1981) in Memorial Medical Center in Niagara Falls. A native of the Town of Niagara, she moved to Sanborn in 1940. She was a member of. St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda. She is survived by her husband, Norman J. Of Lewiston, NY, passed away on  Monday, October 30, 2017, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. She was born in Town of Niagara, NY, on April 25, 1922, a daughter of the late Anthony and Hulda [Kroening]  Haseley.
Mrs. Haseley was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family , grandchildren, great grandchildren , who were the love of her life. A life long member of St. Peter's Church, she always talked to everyone about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She was the widow of Max F. Haseley, who passed away in February of 1988. Mrs. Haseley is  survived by a son, David [Joanne] Haseley, two daughters, Diane M. (late Russell) Frerichs and Shirley J. (Howard) Walck, eight grandchildren Cheryl Newton, Shawn Haseley, Daryl (Rachel) Haseley, Kim (Bruce) DeVantier, Kelli (Randy) Kaminski, Kristen (Greg) Schuey, Brent (Andrea) and Bruce (Jennifer) Walck, also sixteen great grandchildren, one great  great granddaughter, also many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edwin and  Harvey Haseley, Frances Walck and Hilda Wendt.
Her family will be present on   Saturday from 10-1:00 PM at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 6167 Walmore Road, Sanborn, NY where funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, with the Rev. Thomas Thorstad officiating.

Arthur W. Wendt, 86, of Wheatfield, a retired truck driver, died Wednesday (Sept. 25, 2002) in CrestWood Health Care Facility after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Lewiston and attended St. Peter's Lutheran School.
Wendt worked as a laborer at Remington Rand from 1938 to 1949, then was a truck driver at Sanborn Milling from 1949 to 1977 and drove trucks for Voss Manufacturing from 1977 to 1990.
He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where he held various positions, including trustee and elder. He also was a member of the church's Cemetery Committee.
Wendt was an exempt member of the Sanborn Fire Company, serving in an active capacity for 25 years.
He enjoyed hunting and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, the former A. Elise Goltz; a son, Daniel of North Tonawanda; four daughters, Suzanne Galganski of Alexander, Janet of Amherst, Ruby Mangan of Spencerport and Gail Wurl of Lockport; two brothers, Reinert of St. Augustine, Fla., and Herbert of Avon Park, Fla.; two sisters, Violet Cvetan of Lebanon, Pa., and Minnie DuBois of Niagara Falls; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 6169 Walmore Road, Sanborn. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery
