North Tonawanda, March 31 - Charles Belling, 88, died Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adolph Thiele, of the Shawnee Road, Town of Wheatfield. Mr. Belling was born in Sweeney street when this part of the city was part of the Town of Wheatfield and the street was known as the Creek road. He retired as a farmer 20 years ago. He was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran church at Martinsville. He is survived by three sons, John of the Town of Pendleton, George of the Town of Wheatfield, and Charles Belling, Jr. of Tonawanda; four daughters, Mrs. Robert Thiele and Mrs. Louis Sattelberg, of this city; Mrs. Adolph Thiele of the Town of Wheatfield, and Mrs. Walter Denel of the Town of Amherst; 21 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Mrs. Anna Ewald, of this city Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at the Hamp Funeral home, 37 adam street, with the Rev. Mr. Belling was a World War I Army veteran, and a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church. His wife, the former Josephine Knoell, died in December 1966 in an automobile accident. Survivors include three sons, Paul, of Marlboo, Conn., George of
Charleston, W. Va., and Theodore of this city; two daughters, Ms. William Grove of Geneseo, N.Y., and Miss Dorothy Belling of Kensington, Md.; a brother, Carl and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Sattelburg and Mrs. Gertrude Denef, all of the Town of Amherst, and 14 grandchildren.

Mrs. Milleville was employed by Finishing Enterprises and retired in 1979 after 11 years. Walter G. Belling, age 85, of Pendleton, passed away Friday November 6, 2009 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport. Mr. Belling was born March 16, 1924, son of the late Henry and Auguste (nee Ewald) Belling. Mr. Belling attended Tonawanda High School, he served in the United States Army during WWII, he was a PFC with the 511th Airborne Signal Corps, serving from January 23, 1943 until his discharge on February 17, 1946. Mr. Belling was a self employed contractor, he was the Town of Pendleton Building Inspector, he also had worked in the display department for Sears and Roebuck. Mr. Belling was a active life time member of St. Martin Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was chairman of the renovation committee, in 1985 remodeling St. Martin Church, he designed and made the wooden cross for the church's altar. He headed the committee to build the addition to Pendleton's Historical Society where he also taught wood carving classes. He was a member of the Niagara Frontier all Airborne Chapter and it's Honor Guard. Mr. Belling was a expert wood carver, specializing in birds, he had built two homes and most of the furniture in them. AMHERST — Earl L. Belling, age 79, of Amherst, passed away February 7, 2012, following a prolonged illness. Mr. Belling was born June 25, 1932 in Amherst, son of the late Henry and Agusta Belling.

Mr. Belling was a carpenter by trade. He worked for Richardson Boat Company in North Tonawanda. He also had worked for several homebuilders where he did ruff construction for new homes.

Mr. Belling was a lifelong member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda. He also had enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Beloved husband of Suzanne J. (nee Atwater) Belling of Amherst; father of Connie Sue Gollhardt of FL, Paul Alan Belling of North Tonawanda and Jody Lauren Belling; grandfather of Amanda Ruth, Andrea Mae, Alan Joseph and Aiden Michael; brother of Leonard Belling, Eager (Nancy) Belling and Ellen (Tom) Seeley; predeceased by six other siblings; also survived by nieces and nephews.

Leonard Thiele Dies in Hospital
NORTH TONAWANDA-Leonard Thiele, 50, of 7491 Shawnee Road, Wheatfield, died unexpectedly Thursday (July 2, 1964). He was stricken while at his place of business and was pronounced dead on arrival at DeGraff Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Thiele was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield and, was co-owner of the Thiele Coal and Feed Corp. and co-owner also of the Witnauer Fuel Co. Inc.
He was a member of St. Martin Lutheran I Church, in which he was a Sunday school teacher for 32 years and served on the Church Council for six years. He was also a member of the Thiele was a member of the church. (sic)
In other associations, Mr. Theile was a member of the board of directors of the Niagara Savings and Loan Association, a director of the Empire State Petroleum Association, a member of the Oil Heat Institute of Buffalo. In the latter organization, he was chosen "Man of the Year" in 1962. He was a director of the Eastern Federation of Feed Merchants and formerly served on the United Community Fund campaign here.
Survivors include his widow, Elizabeth Mackinsen Thiele; a daughter, Mrs. William (Marie) Cole; a son, Paul Thiele, and a brother, Eugene Thiele, all of this area.

Ruth O. Wendt, 86, of Sanborn, NY passed away peacefully Sunday, May 20th, 2007 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, New York.
Mrs. Wendt was born in Amherst, Erie County, NY on October 26, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Elfie [ Wolf ] Belling. She was a longtime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church - Walmore Sanborn, NY. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and caring for her family.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Marvin W. Wendt, who died on August 20, 1996.

BUFFALO - Ralph E. Belling, of the Town of Pendleton, NY, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011, at Millard Fillmore Hospital Gates Circle, Buffalo, NY. He was born in Amherst, NY, on September 25, 1922, the son of John and Elsie (Wolf) Belling.

Mr. Belling grew up and had worked on his family’s farm for over 28 years before becoming a mixer with the Durez Chemical Co. in North Tonawanda for 17 years, before retiring in 1984. He delivered food for the Interfaith Food Pantry in North Tonawanda and was a member of the Wendleville Senior Citizens. Mr. Belling enjoyed spending time with his family and taking care of his pets.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna F. (Hartman) Belling; two sons, Roger J. (Rebecca) Belling of Wheatfield and Roy D. Mr. Thiele was a 1961 graduate of North Tonawanda High School and a 1965 graduate of Capital University. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. He was the President of Thiele Inc. and was a member and Regional Vice-President of ESPA, and was a member of other trade organizations. He was an active member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, having served as Choir Director, Treasurer, President, Trustee, Sunday School teacher and Youth Group Director; he had served as the Treasurer of the Regional Youth Group Gathering. Kathleen M. (Wendt) Goss, 69, of Sanborn, NY, passed away peacefully at her Florida home on Friday, February 20, 2015. Kathy was born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 26, 1945 and was a lifelong resident of Sanborn, NY. She attended Niagara Wheatfield High School and was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Sanborn, NY. Where she married Duane Goss on February 12, 1966. Together they raised their family in Sanborn and enjoyed their retirement by wintering in Fruitland Park, FL. Kathy worked at Cherry Bank Farms and H.A. Treichler & Sons Greenhouses, both in Sanborn for several years. Kathy was also an active member of the Sanborn Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary where she volunteered for 38-years and served as President, Vice President, Treasure, Secretary and Food Chairman. Kathy also organized the first annual "Light Up Sanborn" holiday event. She loved cooking, canning gardening and crafts and adored her entire family, especially her grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late Marvin and Ruth (Belling) Wendt. Kathy is survived by her husband, Duane N. NORTH TONAWANDA - Fire officials have identified Reid Bracken as the man killed in Wednesday night's fire on Belling Place.

The blaze was first reported around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday by a passer-by who noticed flames coming from a three-apartment building at 1338 Belling Place.

Firefighters were able to get Bracken out of the burning structure and resusitative efforts were begun at the scene but he later died at a DeGraff Memorial Hospital.

Bracken was the sole resident in the apartment.

After a joint investigation by the City of North Tonawanda Fire and Police departments, it was determined the fire was accidental in nature and the use of a kitchen stove and/or electrical issue could not be ruled out as the cause.

Damage to the home was estimated at $40,000.

BRACKEN - Reid Died unexpectedly, December 30, 2015 in his home in North Tonawanda, at the age of 60. He is survived by his daughter Christina Bracken, his mother Waldtraut Bracken, and his brother and sister, Rolf and Diane Bracken Reid was a 1973 graduate of North Tonawanda High School and a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Reid made his career as an aircraft mechanic in Florida and his skills as such were evident in all of his endeavors in life. He had an adventurous spirit and was very kindhearted and generous. He will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation Tuesday (January 12, 2016) from 4 to 6 PM at the WATTENGEL Funeral Home, 307 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda, where Services will follow at 6 PM. Douglas S. Mielke, 63 of North Tonawanda, died suddenly on May 6, 2023. He is the son of Gary Mielke (deceased) and Barbara Mielke. Brother to Deborah (Mielke) Leavoy and Dianne (Mielke) Mueller , brother in law to Doug Mueller and wonderful friend to Mark Wilcox. Uncle to Kristene (Mueller) DiMarco, Jaclyn Mueller, Deanna (Mueller) Mendez and Katie Mueller.
Doug had a love for sports, Chicago Blackhawks being his favorite Hockey team and the Yankees was the baseball favorite. He had a passion for Rag doll cats who also had a love for him. One living to be 21 years old. If he isn't working in the yard or enjoying art festivals or spending time with family, you will always find him driving around in his corvette. There is a deep whole in our family but we know we will see him again. We love and miss you Doug

Gary L. Sattelberg Jr. passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the age of 36 under the care of Niagara Hospice after a courageous battle with an illness.

He worked as a meteorologist at the Niagara Falls Air Base Weather Station. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing cards. He also loved working out.

He is survived by his mother, Melinda Sattelberg; step father, Bryan Bouch; sister, Jennifer Sattelberg; a niece, Kaitlin Thompson and a nephew, Cory Thompson. He is predeceased by his father, Gary Sattelberg Sr.

No prior visitation. A private service will be held.
