NIAGARA FALLS — Louise Burns Norris, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, age 102. Born February 20, 1911, in New Brighton, PA, she moved to Niagara Falls as a child. A graduate of Buffalo State University, she was a lifelong educator, first teaching in a preschool, then in the Niagara Falls schools from 1935 until 1971. From 1956 until her retirement, she supervised all the home economics programs for that school system, as well as contributing to the development of home economics programs in the state. After her retirement, she traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe with members of her family. A member of Zion Lutheran Church for over 90 years, she served the church in many roles, most recently that of its historian.
Miss Norris was the daughter of the late Mary A. and Milton A. Norris, Sr. She is survived by two nephews, the Reverend Howard M. Norris and Charles F. Norris; a niece, Carolyn Norris-Baker (Franklin Baker); seven grandnephews, Kenneth, Wayne, Mark, Peter, David, Timothy, Joel; five grandnieces, Carole, Gail, Amber, Layne, Viatrix Elizabeth, and nine great-grandnieces and great- grandnephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers and their wives, Milton A. Norris, Jr. (Mildred) and Frederick H. Norris (Muriel); a nephew, the Reverend Harold C. Norris; a niece, Janet Baver; a grandniece, Adrian, and a grandnephew, George.
Miss Norris donated her body for the promotion of research and education to the School of Medicine of New York at Buffalo. A memorial service and interment in Riverdale Cemetery are planned for a later date. The family suggests donations may be made in Miss Norris' name to Zion Lutheran Church.
