WILSON — Ruth Caroline Shaffer, 89, died peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2011 at Viera Hospital. She was born on May 1, 1922 in Newfane, NY, to Walter M. and Lena (Donner) Rohring.



Ruth grew up on farms in Wilson, NY. After graduation from high school, she worked at Moore Business Forms in Niagara Falls. She served in the Women's Army Corps from 1945 to 1946 working in hospitals. On July 12, 1947 she married James C. Shaffer. They spent most of their life in Lewiston, NY. Ruth continued her education after starting a family. She graduated from Trott Vocational High School's practical nursing program and then worked as an LPN at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital until retirement. She was a member of the former Hope Lutheran Church, Town of Niagara and its Ladies Guild. In 1993, she and her husband moved to Melbourne, FL. In Florida she did respite volunteer work and enjoyed making crafts at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where she was a member.



Ruth is survived by her devoted family, including husband, James Shaffer; daughter Barbara of Arizona, Daughter Diane (Bernard) of California; son, Gary (Jane) of Maine; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; also survived by brothers, Donald of Largo, FL and Allen (Anne) of Wilson, NY; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Ruth leaves behind special friends, Jeanette Kroening and Huguette Pyska. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Walter; and great-granddaughter, Lyla Pyska.



There will be a visitation from 2-3 PM on Sunday, November 27th at Florida Memorial Funeral Home, where a funeral service will begin at 3 PM in the chapel. Entombment will be at Florida Memorial Gardens. Home at last. He has now met his wonderful Savior, Jesus, face to face. His greatest hope would be that you also would see Him face to face in Heaven.

Eighty-eight full years of being a farmer, United States Marine, business owner, 40 years as a Gideon, member of First Baptist Church in Wilson, and someone who never retired. That is the legacy that Allen Rohring left to us. He was a man of faith who loved his Lord, his family, those in jail and those in need. His acts of generosity will be remembered and carried on for generations to come. One of his favorite Bible verses was Ephesians 2:8-9: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.”

He will be missed but never forgotten by his family: precious wife of 65 years, Anne (Goodman) and children Peter (Lezlee), Thomas (Janell), JoAnne Bradford (Bud), Jeffrey (Janet), Rodney (Ann) and Steven (Laura), as well as 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Durwood J. Rohring, age 91, of the Town of Lockport and husband of 70 years to Audrey A. Rohring died on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Durwood was born on December 16, 1928 in the Town of Cambria, NY. He is the son of the late Howard A. and the late Florence M. (Koller) Rohring. He married Audrey A. Rohring on April 22, 1950. He was employed by GM/Harrison Radiator as Line Operator retiring after 30 plus years. Durwood enjoyed trips to the casino, he was a member of the UAW travel club and was an active hunter in his younger days. Durwood and Audrey were members of St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Ridge for many years. He is the son of the late Norbert and the late Iola (Rohring) Sherrie. Lynn was a 1959 graduate of Wilson H.S where he excelled at basketball and track. He married his high school sweetheart Helen Reese on June 17, 1961. Lynn retired in 1984 after 26 years from Bell Aerospace in Wheatfield, NY. He was a past member of the Wilson Lions Club, long time member of the Wilson Historical Society and life member of 57 years with Wilson Fire Co. #1, spending 14 of those years as President. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent 40 years hunting in the southern tier with his 7 hunting cabin partners.He is survived by his wife, Helen (Reese) Sherrie; a daughter, Paula (Brian) Schrader; his sister Joanne (Lee) Mansfield; a daughter in law, Angie Sherrie; four grandchildren, Andrea Schrader, Joseph (Kimberly) Schrader, Layne Sherrie, and Brook Baker; 2 great grandchildren, Riley, and Wyatt Schrader. Obituary of Roger Lee Sherrie

Lockport resident Roger Sherrie, 67, died August 12th, 2019 at his home, after battling cancer. Roger was born on October 19th, 1951 in Buffalo, New York. He grew up in Wilson, New York but spent most of his adult life living in Lockport. He is survived by his children, Alec Sherrie (Jessica Amal Sherrie), Lydia Sherrie (Jon Ross Wilson), and Emma Sherrie (Corey Kuzma); his brother Lynn Sherrie (Helen Sherrie); his sister Joanne Sherrie Mansfield (Lee Mansfield); his nieces Paula Sherrie Schrader (Brian Schrader) and Tracey Demaris; his great nieces and nephews, Andrea Schrader, Joey Schrader (Kim Schrader), Riley Schrader, Wyatt Schrader, and Layne Sherrie; his beloved dog Pepsi; and many, many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Iola and Norbert Sherrie, his nephew Lon Sherrie, and his former wife, Mollie Shearer Sherrie.
Roger attended Wilson Central High School and graduated in 1969. He then attended Adrian College in Michigan where he received a degree in political science. Though he held many jobs in the public sector, he spent 27 years working as a Regional Director for the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) before retiring in 2014. Roger was also heavily involved in local politics throughout his life. In recent years, he served as a NYS Committeeman for District 144, the NYS Committeeman for the Democratic Rural Committee, and the Lockport City Chair. In addition, he fulfilled various roles within the Niagara County Democratic Committee. In 2015, he achieved a lifelong goal when he ran for Lockport City Mayor.
Roger was an incredibly hard worker who was dedicated to defending the rights of the working class. He was a deep thinker, a skilled writer, a passionate public speaker, and a strong leader in his community. While he was well known for his political prowess, he will best be remembered as a loving and devoted father and friend. He was adored and respected by all those whose lives he touched and will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24th at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home located at 242 Genesee Street in Lockport, New York. All are welcome. Eric M. “Rick” Rohring, age 70, of Ransomville passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at home under the care of Niagara Hospice. Rick was born on November 8, 1951, in Niagara Falls, NY. He is the son of the late Walter G. and the late Lorraine (Shortz) Rohring Jr. He graduated from Lew-Port CSD class of 1969. In December of 1969 he completed a vocational trade program as a service station auto mechanic. He married Charlene Shook on December 4, 1971. In 1982 Rick joined the Ironworkers apprenticeship program with the Ironworkers Union LOCAL # 9 of Niagara Falls, NY accomplishing 40 years of service. Rick owned and operated a 50-acre farm in Ransomville raising beef cattle and vegetable crops for 35 plus years with his wife.Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Charlene; his sisters, Carolyn Rohring, Bonnie Rohring and Karen Kobel; Nephews; Chris Burek, Eric Freberg, Jason Freberg, Shawn Tussing; Niece, Jennifer (Tim) Bagovich; Great Nephews, Andrew and Matthew Bagovich; a brother-in-law, William P. Lon Charles Sherrie, age 50, of Wilson, entered into rest suddenly on Wed-nesday, March 11, 2015. Born July 15, 1964 in Newfane, Lon is the son of Lynn and Helen (Reese) Sherrie. Lon married Angela Shaffer January 4, 1997 in Lewiston, NY.

They have three children, Amber Baker, Brooke Baker and Layne Sherrie, all of Wilson; a grandson, Mason; Lon's parents, Lynn and Helen Sherrie of Wilson; sister, Paula (Brian) Schrader of Wilson and son-in-law of Linda Shaffer; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Lon.

Lon was a 1982 graduate of Wilson High School. He was owner/ operator of L.C.S. Home Improvement of Newfane. He enjoyed hunting and was a big fan of NASCAR.
