    Mrs. Alice Achterberg Dies at 90
    ADAMS - Mrs. Alice Achterberg, 90, of 115 E. Church St., widow of Charles Achterberg, died this morning in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where she had been a patient two weeks. The funeral is tentatively set for Thursday afternoon at the Brunner Funeral Home, North Tonawanda. Burial will be in North Tonawanda. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John R. (Lorna) Price, Adams, with whom she had lived 17 years, and Mrs Jacob P. (Caroline) Dexheimer, North Tonawanda; four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Born. Aug. 13, 1881, in Reed City Mich., she was married to Charles Achterberg, Jan. 1, 1901. He died in 1953.

    Tonawanda, she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Mrs. Achterberg was the wife of the late Charles Achterberg and the mother of the late Leonard, Maynard and Benjamin Achterberg. Beloved mother of Mrs. John (Lorna) Price of Adams, N.Y., and Mrs. Jacob (Caroline) Dexheimer of North Tonawanda; sister of Mrs. Agnes Holland and Mrs. Louise Newman, both of North Tonawanda, Mrs. Elizabeth Broecker of the Town of Wheatfield, Edmund Williams of the Town of Pendleton, Walter Williams of the Town of Wheatfield; grandmother of four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends received by the family today, Dec. 8, at the Brunner Funeral Home, 156 Robinson St., North Tonawanda, where services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m., the Rev. Enno Schmoock officiating. Interment in Wheatfield Cemetery

    NORTH TONAWANDA, Oct. 21 - Leonard Achterberg, 51, died Tuesday at Orchard Park. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Alice Achterberg, of Amherst; a brother, Maynard Achterberg, and two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Dexheimer, both of this city, and Mrs. John Price, of Adams. Last rites will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Fretthold Funeral Home here. Interment will be in Wheatfield Cemetery

    from death by two companions,
    Benjamin Achterberg. 23. was
    drowned a few minutes later when
    their boat overturned.

    Believed to have been the victim of a heart attack, Benjamin
    Achterberg, 23 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs,
    Charles Achterberg, Tonawanda Creek road, town of Amherst,
    sank in the Barge Canal while swimming with a number
    of other young people at Pickard's Bridge early last evening.
    The body was recovered IS
    minutes later by members of the
    North Amherst Fire company, of
    which the youth was a member.
    An inhilator was Used by the
    First Aid squad. of the Eggertsville
    Fire company in an unsuccessful
    attempt to restore him.
    Physicians said that no water
    was found in the man's lungs,
    giving rise to the belief that he
    was the victim of a heart attack.
    Not Expert Swimmer
    Achterberg was not an expert
    swimmer,..He had been swimming
    with other youths of Pickard's
    Bridge in the canal all Summer
    and was considered able to hand-
    le himself fairly well in the
    aquatic sport.
    The point where he went down
    was less than 1,00 feet from the
    Achterberg home and only a short
    distance east of the bridge over
    the canal in the small settlement.
    Ria Survivors
    Besides his parents the youth
    is survived by two brothers,
    Leonard and Maynard, at home,
    and two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Dexheimer,
    town of Wheatfield, and
    Lorna, at home.
    Medical examiner Charles E
    Long was called. The body was
    removed to Hamp's morgue or
    Adam street. Dr. Long has not
    issued a certificate of death.
    The funeral will be held Friday
    afternoon at 2 o'clock from the
    residence and at 2;30 o'clock at the
    St. Paul's church in Martinsville
    the Rev. F. A. Hinners officiating
    Interment will be in the Wheatfield
    cemetery, Shawnee road.
