MRS. H. TREIBER DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Mrs. Hedwig Treiber, 58 years old, a resident of the Singer road, town of Lockport, died yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gustave Schultz, Niagara Falls boulevard, St. Johnsburg, where she had been visiting for a week. Mrs. Treiber had been in failing health for a long time. She is survived by her husband, Otto Treiber of the Singer road, four daughters, Mrs. Schultz, Mrs. Jacob Boyer of Lockport, Mrs. James Cummings and Mrs. Ernest Cummings of Akron, N. Y.; two sons, Otto (and) Clarence Treiber of Lockport; eleven grandchildren, her mother, Mrs. Bertha Duwe of Wolcottsburg, N. Y., three sisters, Mrs. Gustave Ellman of St. Johnsburg, Mrs. James Kelley, of Depew and Mr. Herman Kirchhoff of Wolcottsburg and two brothers, Albert Duwe of Tonawanda and Herman Duwe of Middleport. Popular Resident of Drum Road, Hartland, Dies Suddenly.
JOHNS0N CREEK. Nov. 21. - One who will be sadly missed In the months to come Herman Duwe, age 53 of the Drum road, whose death occurred suddenly on Friday morning, November 16. Mr. Duwe had reached the time in life when it seemed that he could enjoy himself for a time, however, with a premonition sometimes experienced he somehow sensed that his time was near and spoke of the passing of his brother. His wife, not sensing the full import of the warning, naturally endeavored to turn it lightly aside.
Mr . Duwe was well known. He was a great lover of music, and wherever a dance, there he was in great demand to furnish music on his violin and to call the old fashioned dances. The many friends visiting the stricken home, traveling over well nigh impassible roads bespoke for him the high esteem In which he was held.
Leaving to mourn his passing are his wife, Mary Peters Duwe, three daughters, Mrs. Paul Beckman and Mrs. John Mallnoski of Cattaraugus Co., a n d Da y t o n Garling of Middleport. his mother Mrs. Charles Duwe of Clarence, three sisters. NORTH TONAWANDA Gustav A. Ewald, of 441 Robinson St., died Tuesday (Aug. 26, 1975) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was a lifelong resident of this city. Mr. Ewald, 86, was employed by Remington Rand Office Systems Division of Sperry Rand Corp. as a supervisor of the tool and dye department for 54 years, retiring in 1961.
He was a member of St. Peter American Lutheran Church, having served on the church council for 25 years. He was also a member of the North Tonawanda Senior Citizens.
He was the husband of the late Minnie M. (Harms) Ewald, who died in 1958.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William (Ruth) Stange of the Town of Wheatfield and Mrs. Richard (Jane) Keil of this city; a son; Glenwood G. Ewald of Blue Bell, Pa.; two brothers, the Rev. Alfred Ewald, doctor of divinity of St. Paul, MN, and the Rev. Carl Duwe of Richmond Heights, OH; two sisters, Mrs. Elma Marlow and Mrs. Virgil Ragsdale, both of Detroit, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul American Lutheran Church, Bryant and Thompson Streets. The Rev. Luther Lautenschlager will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

William A. Duwe, 82, of 11406 Maple Ridge Road, died at the Medina Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, having been in ill health for the past two years. Mr. Duwe was born in Wolcottsville, June 26, 1897, the son of Albert and Louise Ribbeck Duwe, and he had been engaged in farming, trucking and carpentry in the Medina
area. He was a veteran of WW I, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps in France.
He is survived by a brother, Carl Duwe of Cleveland, Ohio; two half-brothers, Samuel Duwe of Barker and Gordon Duwe of Lockport; a half sister, Mrs. Wilbur (Ethel) Jolls of Lockport, and several nephews and nieces. The Rev. Carl F. Duwe, a North Tonawanda native and a Lutheran minister for 72 years, died Friday (May 3, 1996) in Timken Mercy Medical Center, Canton, OH, after a brief illness. Mr. Duwe, 93, retired in 1967 in Ohio but returned to North Tonawanda for several years and served as interim pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda. He also served at other churches as needed. He was ordained in the former American Lutheran Church, which later merged into the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, after graduating from the former Martin Luther Seminary in Buffalo. Early in his ministry, Mr. Duwe served at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ridgeway, Ont., and Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Webster. In Ohio, he served for 19 years as pastor of Grace Lutheran in East Palestine and St. Luke's in Petersburg. He was pastor of Euclid Lutheran Church in Euclid for 18 years. He is survived by two sons, Herbert C. of Negley, OH, and Gordon E. of Richmond Heights, OH; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday in Euclid Lutheran Church. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Park, Amherst.

The Rev. Carl F. Duwe, Pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn, will observe the 45th anniversary of his ordination into the Lutheran ministry Sunday.
The Rev. Harold L. Baum of Pittsburgh, Pa., will be the guest minister at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services. A dinner for the family and guests will be served in the church hall at noon.
The Rev. Mr. Duwe now lives with his wife in North Tonawanda. Since April he has been interim pastor at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn.
The Rev. Mr. Duwe was ordained in St. Luke Lutheran Church, Ridgeway, Ont., on June 22, 1924. He served at a parish in Webster, N.Y., a church in Paris-Mapleton, OH, and at Grace Lutheran Church, East Palestine, OH, the latter for 10 years.
He concluded his services at Fairport Harbor, OH where he retired in 1967 as pastor emeritus of the American Lutheran Church
He is a graduate of Martin Luther College and Theological Seminary, Buffalo.
During his ministry, Mr. Duwe served as president of the Augustana Conference of the Eastern District, American Lutheran Church, and was secretaryof the Eastern Distict American Missions Committee for 12 years

A native of the Town of Royalton, he died Thursday (June 2, 1994) in Lockport Memorial Hospital. Dewey worked at Harrison for more than 46 years, starting as an hourly employee in 1928. He rose through the ranks, as foreman of inspection, a field service engineer, general foreman of production, general superintendent, and plant manager at the former Washburn Street Plant and the West Plant from 1950 until his retirementin 1975. At Trinity Lutheran Church, he was chairman of the board of trustees for many years and also served as general chairmanof the United Appeal fund drive in the early 1950s. He was the Industrial Committee chairman for the Chamber of Commerce andworked on various fund drives for Boy Scout troops. He was the widower of the former Marion Kator, who died in 1962. Surviving are his wife, the former Hilda L. Linderman; a son, James; a brother, Burt Duwe of Dinuba, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Linda L. Byrum of Milwaukee, Wis.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Linda A. Bobzien passed away Thursday December 13, 2018 at Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport.  Born in Lockport on August 6, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Helene Steblein Duwe.  Linda graduated from Lockport Senior High School, Class of 1960, worked as a nurses aide at Briody Health Care Facility and also was a hairdresser out of her home.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the 1960’s Club and volunteered with the Lockport YMCA swim team.
Linda was the mother of Kristine Hamilton, Jeffrey (Teresa) Bobzien, Curtis (Marla) Bobzien, and the late Kimberly Bobzien; grandmother of Seth Hamilton, Kimberlee Hamilton, Ryan Townsend, Taylor Bobzien and Jordyn Bobzien.  She is also survived by her brother, Daniel (Linda) Duwe and several nieces and nephews.

Dayton I. Garling, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015, in Niagara Hospice House, Lockport, NY. He was born in Middleport, NY, on January 19, 1928, the son of the late Dayton F. and Inez [Dewey] Garling.

Dayton served in the US ARMY, with the military police in Yokohana, Japan in 1946. After being discharged from the service he moved to Sanborn, NY and married Cherie [Stubbs] Taylor, where they lived for 52 years. Dayton was self employed with Nationwide Insurance Company for 30 years, before retiring.
He was an exempt member of the Sanborn Fire Company and enjoyed playing golf and landscaping his back yard.

Dayton is survived by his living wife Cherie, one daughter Jaclyn (Scott) Burdick of Sanborn, NY, two sons Joel (Debi) Taylor of Hilton, NY and Scott (Margaret) Taylor of Brockport, NY, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

His family will be present on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn, NY, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. R. P. Vogeler officiating.

Edward J. Malinoski, 87, owner-operator for Big Ed's Fishing Camp, where he worked for 30 years, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie, Pa. He was born Nov. 25, 1921, in Middleport, N.Y., the son of the late John L. and Mildred E. (Duwe) Malinoski. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II, enlisted on May 13, 1942, at Buffalo, N.Y., and was discharged on May 12, 1945, at Brooklyn, N.Y. After serving in the Coast Guard, he worked at Brock Publishing for a period of time. He was also head custodian for Cattaraugus Central School for many years. Ed was a member of the Cattaraugus Fire Department and Ambulance Squad, American Legion of Little Valley and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mayville. He served as mayor of the village of Cattaraugus, also the village board, and justice of the peace for many years. He is survived by a son, Thomas E. (Jean) Malinoski of Forestville, N.Y.; a daughter, Kathleen A. (James) Southworth of Cattaraugus, N.Y.; a grandson, Edward J. (Emily) Southworth of Ellery Center, N.Y.; three granddaughters: Erin M. (George) Haffenden of East Aurora, N.Y., Jennifer L. (Sean) Burke of Tampa, Fla., and Suzanna Borst of Astoria, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Francis J. Malinoski of Mayville, N.Y; also several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouse, Eilleen Rose Corrigan Malioski, whom he married in Miami, Fla., on Dec. 24, 1944. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Hills Funeral Chapel, 55 S. Main St., Cattaraugus, N.Y. Frances married Karl Meeker at Saint James United Methodist Church in Niagara Falls, NY.  Mr.  Meeker predeceased her in 2006.  In her spare time, Frances enjoyed playing Bingo and making crafts. 
Frances is survived by her children, Stefan (Margo) Kundl, Connie (Jeff) Krueger, and Susan (Russell) Jackman II; her grandchildren, Jenny (Brian) Scarpina, Shannon Krueger, Matthew Krueger, Katie (Neil) Canterbury, Jessica-Lynn Siracuse, Russell (Arden) Jackman III, and Tyler Jon Jackman; seven great-grandchildren, her brother, Carl (Linda) Stiles, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her husband of 18 years, Frances was predeceased by her grandchildren, Robert Hathaway and Chris Kundl, as well as her siblings, George (Carol) Staub and Paul (late Jane) Staub.

BERGHOLZ — Colleen Ann Syruws, (Stange), age 61, of Bergholz, was called to her heavenly home on January 23, 2013, at her residence, under the care of her loving family and Niagara Hospice. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on March 12, 1951, she was the daughter of the late William and Ruth (Ewald) Stange, Jr. Colleen was a 1969 graduate of Niagara Wheatfield High School and was previously employed as a clerk at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. She was a lifelong member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Wheatfield, and she cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her devoted husband, William R. Syruws. They were united in marriage on August 24, 1974; two daughters, Lorrie (William) Weir and Lynn (Benjamin) Willis; two sisters, Nancy (Richard) Musall and Carol (Stanley) Woodcock; and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Peyton, Charles and Adelaide.

Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz), in Wheatfield on Friday from 4-8 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Ronald D. GASPORT — Judy L. Covert, age 54, of Akron, NY, entered into rest Saturday, January 12, 2013, in Absolut Care in Gasport, NY, following a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis.

Judy was born September 3, 1958, in Batavia, NY, the loving daughter of Naomi (Ewald) Covert of Akron and the late Wilbur Covert.

She was a graduate of Akron Central School, class of 1976. Following high school Judy continued her education at SUNY Brockport,earning a master's degree in history.

For several years Judy was employed in the health care industry as a nurse's aide for several nursing homes in the area. Before her illness forced her to stop working, she was employed at the Oakwood Nursing Home in Williamsville, NY.

Judy was a lifetime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville. She enjoyed reading, ceramics and was an avid Beatles fan, listening to their music all the time. She also enjoyed her cats she had over the years.

Besides her mother, Judy was the dear sister of Karen (late James) Keith of Akron and Kathy (Bob) Artico of Fredonia. Cherished aunt of Kristin and Jeremy Keith, Matthew Heppner and the late Rebecca "Becky" Spoonhour. Also surviving are several great-nieces and nephews; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, at 11 AM in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6369 Wolcottsville Rd., Akron. Rev. Rod Klindzing will officiate. Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the CHILDS FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 10 Eckerson Ave., Akron. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy would be appreciated by the family in Judy's memory to the church.

Karen Keith of Akron, NY,  entered into rest on May 19, 2023. She was born in Batavia, NY on April 24, 1949 to Wilbur and Naomi (Ewald) Covert.

Karen was a 1967 graduate of Akron Central School District and received her nursing degree from Monroe Community College. She worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Mount St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital in Lewiston for 47 years.  She is a Breast Cancer Survivor and former Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed doing crafts and reading in her spare time. 

Beloved mother of Jeremy (Jennifer Marquart) Keith and Kristin Keith; cherished grandmother of Dillon (Paige Schultz) Bisher, dear sister of Kathy (Robert) Artico; fond aunt and great aunt of Matthew (Jennifer Baker) Heppner and Isaac Heppner. Karen is predeceased by her husband, James Keith in 2003 and youngest sister, Judy Covert in 2013.

Mrs. Brandt was born in Medina, NY on September 11, 1944, daughter of Ruth (Wolfe) Ewald and the late Carlton Ewald.She grew up in the Wolcottsville area and had lived in Lockport for 43 years. She and her husband, Edward H. Brandt, were married May 6, 1978. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Lockport and was a Pre-K teacher for the church from l988 to l999. She enjoyed her family, crafts and gardening.She is survived by her husband, Edward H. Brandt; her children, Allen Hoste and Gregory Tammy) Hoste, all of Lockport and Cheryl (Darren) May of Michigan and her mother, Ruth Ewald of Clarence, NY. Also surviving are her step-children, Edward Brandt of Frankfort, NY, Mary Brandt and Cynthia Brandt, both of Mohawk, NY and Sharon (David) Wert of South Carolina. Miss Bobzien, a native of Lockport, died Tuesday (Nov. 29, 1994) in Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, after a lengthy illness. She graduated from Lockport High School and Niagara County Community College and attended Buffalo State College. Miss Bobzien was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Curtis S. Bobzien, 46 of Middleport, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at home surrounded by his family after a brave battle with cancer. Born February 11, 1974 in Lockport, he was a son of the late William E. and Linda A. (Duwe) Bobzien. Cherished husband of Marla (Kelley) Bobzien; and step-father to Ryan D. Townsend.
Curt graduated from Lockport High School in 1992 and received his associate's degree from NCCC in August 2018. He worked as an I.T. Specialist for many years. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lockport.
Curt was a member of the YMCA boys swim team from 1978-1992 and was on the high school varsity swim team. Curt held numerous swim records throughout his amateur swim career, starting at age nine with a NYS title in the 25-yard freestyle and, to this day, holds the Lockport High School record in the 400-yard freestyle relay set in 1990 with Mike Treadway, Jim Newton and Joe Esposito.
Curt was a volunteer swim coach for the YMCA boys and girls swim teams. He could always be found on the sidelines of a soccer game, in the stands at a swim meet or hockey rink cheering on his nieces, nephews and many other kids that he coached. He was a mentor to many.
His hobbies included golfing, fishing, camping, cooking, traveling and spending time with his family and three loving dogs. He enjoyed watching Nascar, was an avid Sabres fan and loved traveling to the Thousand Islands.
In addition to his loving wife, step-son and pups, Curt is survived by his siblings, Kristine Hamilton, Jeffrey (Teresa) Bobzien and the late Kimberly Bobzien; son-in-law of Roseann (Jack) Diel; brother-in-law of Amy (Joe) Bork and Lisa (Dave) Poole; uncle to Seth and Kimberlee Hamilton, Taylor and Jordyn Bobzien, Stephanie, Renee (Mike), Lyndsay, Aaron, Joey and David; as well as four great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends.

Jack L. Harms, 71, of East Aurora, Sunday (October 1, 2017). Jack passed away under the care of Hospice Buffalo in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. Jack was born in North Tonawanda on August 27, 1946 to LeGrand and Arlene (Warblow) Harms. Jack was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the U.S. Navy as a pipe-fitter. he later worked for Bell Aerosystems, Harrison Radiator, in Lockport, New York.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Diane L. (Wisnieski) Harms, beloved father of Jennifer (Brian) Young, Jody (Jason) Warnke, and the late Jeffrey L. Harms, son of the late Arlene and LeGrand Harms, son in law of Henry and Shirley (Hill) Wisnieski, brother of Paul (Karen) Harms, Nancy (Harms) Kendziora, brother in law of David, Daniel (Brenda) Wisnieski, Debra (Bruce) Good, and Douglas (Patricia) Wisnieski, grandfather of Jillian and Christian Young, also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Obituary for Kimberly Ann Sayles (Stiles)
Kimberly Ann Sayles (nee Stiles), 41, of Charlotte, North Carolina entered eternal rest and was called home by her Lord and Savior on October 23, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Kimberly was born on October 19, 1980 to Carl and Linda (nee Caradonna) Stiles of North Tonawanda where she lived and worked for the first half of her life. Kim attended St. Matthew Christian Day School (where she was honored with the Christian Citizenship Award), North Tonawanda High School, and Binghamton University where she received a Bachelors Degree in marketing. Kim worked locally at the Red Apple, Stange Insurance Agency and Superior Lubricants until moving to Charlotte where she secured a position as a Project Management Consultant for Liberty Property Trust. On November 20, 2010 Kim Married Scott W. Sayles, Jr. (formerly of Buffalo) and together they have two sons Max (10) and Syrius (7). Kim was also Step-mother to Scott W. Sayles, III of Buffalo and step-grandmother to Avanti Norman. In October of 2019 Kim appeared as a contestant on Wheel of Fortune and was also in the audience on Let's Make a Deal. She also enjoyed part-time work as a narrator and voiceover artist. Besides her parents, husband, and children, she is survived by her sister Debra (Nee Stiles) and Jeffrey Gorney, a niece Carlee, and a nephew Dylan, all of Cheektowaga, New York.
The Family will greet friends at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 875 Eggert Drive, North Tonawanda on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 1-3 P.M. followed by a funeral service officiated by Pastors Blaine Jorg, and Kenneth Craig. A trust fund was set up in Kim's memory for her children by Carl and Linda Stiles, If desired memorials may be made to the Kimberly's Children's Trust Fund.
