    Lewis F. Lauer Sr., 64, of 754 Monteagle St., died Friday after a long illness at Memorial Hospital. Mr. Lauer was traffic manager for the Stauffer Chemical Co., for 20 years. He worked for the company for 45 years. He was born in Lancaster but had lived most of his life in this city. He was a member of the Stauffer Chemical Management Club, the 25-year-club of the company; the Niagara Falls Traffic Management Club and the Niagara Falls Industrial Management Club. He was a member of the Epiphany Episcopal Church where he was a past vestryman and Sunday school teacher. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillian M. Lauer; four sons, Lewis F. Lauer Jr., Youngstown, Paul P., Richard A. and Arthur W. Lauer; and a daughter, Mrs. Karl (Diane) Havens, all of this city; two brothers, Elmer B. Lauer, Hamilton Square, N.J*., and Harold C. Lauer, Gowanda; several nieces and nephews and seven grandchildren. He was the brother of the late H. Arthur Lauer, this city. Friends may call at the Cornell and Daggett Chapel, 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Epiphany Episcopal Church with Rev. John E.     YOUNGSTOWN — Lewis F. Lauer, 86, formerly of Youngstown, NY, passed away under the loving care of his family and hospice on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Newark, DE. Born on October 13, 1925 in Niagara Falls, NY, Lew was the son of the late Lewis and Lillian (Pearson) Lauer and the oldest of five children.

    A 1943 graduate of Niagara Falls High School, he served our country with the US Army, 28th Infantry Division, in Europe during World War II from 1944-46. He attended Niagara and Cornell Universities. Lew was employed at Ayers Witmer Lumber in Niagara Falls and Frontier Lumber Company in Buffalo, retiring in 1989. Lew was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, where he served as a Deacon and was a longtime choir member. He was a member of two local singing groups, The Mary Mitchell Singers and The Good Sound. He loved his family, his church, his music and his flowers.

    He married Suzanne Kolloff in 1952 and was predeceased by her in 1991. Survivors include his son, Jeffrey Lauer of Niagara Falls; daughter, Tracy Lauer, of Phoenix, AZ; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Michael Melville; and grandchildren, Timothy and Sarah, of Newark, DE. He is also survived by his sister and friend, Dianne Havens of Niagara Falls; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Paul, Richard and Arthur.

    Burial will be private. A memorial service to celebrate Lew's life will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. There will be no visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to the Music Fund of the Youngstown Presbyterian Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth and Ridge Sts., Lewiston.

    Richard Allen Lauer, 72, a Marine Corps veteran and former Niagara Falls resident, died Aug. 8, 2001, in the Odessa, Texas, Medical Center after a short illness.
    Born in Niagara Falls, he attended local schools. He served with the Marine Corps in the Korean War from 1952 to 1955.
    He worked as a laborer for the New York State Power Authority, the Stauffer Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls and Ayers-Witmer Lumber Co. in Buffalo.
    He was a keen sports fan, especially of baseball, and also enjoyed gardening and swimming. He was a former member of the Epiphany Episcopal Church and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, both of Niagara Falls.
    He is survived by his wife, Gloria; a daughter, Terri of Buffalo; two brothers, Lewis F. of Youngstown and Arthur W. of Butler, Ohio; and a sister, Diane Havens of Niagara Falls.

    A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in Hardison Funeral Home, North Fourth and Ridge streets, Lewiston. Burial was private.

    Dianne L. Havens, 89, of Lewiston, NY and formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Lillian (Pearson) Lauer; and the loving wife of the late Karl Edwards, Jr. who she married on April 7, 1956 in Niagara Falls.
    Dianne graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1952 and earned her Registered Dental Hygienist certification from the former Erie Technical Institute, Buffalo, NY in 1954. She happily served as a hygienist for many local dentists for 50 years prior to retiring in 2004.  She was much loved by the generations of families she treated as patients, many of whom still ask about her to her sons, in their dental practice.
    Dianne was an avid reader and enjoyed tending to her garden. She also loved vacationing to the Adirondacks every September with family for decades. Above all, Dianne centered her life around her family who she cherished the time spent with. She especially enjoyed baking chocolate chip cookies every weekend with her beloved grandson, Andrew.
    Dianne is survived by three children, Claudia Beth (Harry) Wade, Dr. John Andrew (Michele Ruggirello) Havens, Dr. Todd Lauer (Nicole) Havens, and was sadly predeceased by her son, Dr. Karl Edwards (Pamela Ann) Havens, III in 2019. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrew Havens, Jennifer (William) Empey, Kimberly (Tyler) Powell, Michael (Samantha) Alex, Jenna Havens, Nina Havens, Jack Havens, Connor Havens, Cora Havens and Kylee Havens; her step grandchildren, Sydney Wade and Daniel Wade; her great-grandchildren, William Empey, Eleanor Powell, Nolan Powell and Madeline Empey, as well as many beloved nephews and nieces.  Dianne was also predeceased by her siblings, Lewis (late Susan) Lauer Jr., Paul Lauer, Richard Lauer and Arthur Lauer. 
    Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 19 from  3 – 6 PM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM.     NIAGARA FALLS - Arthur W. Lauer of Butler, Ohio, a native of Niagara Falls and a former Carborundum Co. employee, died Saturday (Aug. 31, 2002) of injuries suffered in a traffic accident several weeks ago in Morrow County, Ohio. He was 63.

    Lauer was born in Niagara Falls and graduated from Trott Vocational High School. He received an associate's degree from Erie County Technical Institute and a bachelor's degree from the University of Buffalo.

    He moved to Ohio in 1974.

    Lauer's first job was with the former Nabisco plant, and he then worked for 33 years for Carborundum. After retiring from Carborundum, he was employed by Altek International and at the time of his death was working at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

    He enjoyed motorcycling, boating, swimming and fishing. He was a member of the Church of God in Anderson, Ind.

    Lauer is survived by his wife of 27 years, Cynthia; four sons, Donald A. of Wheatfield, Douglas A. of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Daniel A. of the City of Tonawanda and Paul A. of Fredericktown, Ohio; a brother, Lewis F. Jr. of Youngstown; a sister, Dianne Havens of Niagara Falls; and five grandchildren.

    A memorial service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Ave. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Karl was born and raised in Niagara Falls, NY the son of the late Karl Edwards Havens, Jr. and Dianne (Lauer) Havens of Niagara Falls. He attended Maple Avenue Elementary, North Junior High School, and graduated from Niagara Falls High School with honors in 1975. Karl was an avid skier and achieved the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. He received a BA in Biology with honors from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1979, a MS with honors (1981) and PhD with honors (1984) in Limnology/Environmental Biology from West Virginia University.

    Karl was the loving husband of Pamela Ann (Williams) Havens, of Gainesville, FL, and devoted father to Andrew Williams Havens. He is survived by his sister, Claudia Beth (Havens) Wade (Harry) of Niagara Falls, NY; Dr. John Andrew Havens (Michele) of North Tonawanda, NY; and Dr. Todd Lauer Havens (Dianne) of Lewiston, NY. He is also survived by 6 nieces, 3 nephews, one great-nephew, as well as several cousins and great-cousins. He is predeceased by his in-laws Oliver Duncan “O.D.” Williams and Dorothy “Doll” Williams of Keyser, WV, and several uncles, aunts and cousins.

    Following his education, he was an Assistant Professor at the Bloomsburg location of the University of Pennsylvania, and later at Kent State University, Ohio. He then became director of research for the South Florida Water Management District - focusing on the water quality and ecology of the Everglades watershed. Since 2007, Karl was the Director of the Florida Sea Grant College Program and Professor in the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at the University of Florida School of Forest Resources and Conservation. Karl had 35 years of experience in aquatic research, education and outreach and was the recipient of the Edward Deevey Jr. award from the Florida Lake Management Society. He authored and published over 160 peer-reviewed scientific articles and had over 6000 citations. He was a member of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine, and on the board of directors for the Florida Ocean Alliance and Florida Institute of Oceanography. Karl was a renowned expert in his field, and gave hundreds of lectures and presentations worldwide. His life’s work was a monumental gain to aquatic science, and his loss a palpable one.

    Karl’s true passion and release in life was his love of outdoor photography and art. He was the founder of the “Photography with Classic Lenses” Facebook group, (which now has close to 12,000 members), several other online photography groups, and a co-host of the weekly “Classic Lenses” podcast. Through this, he had many hundreds of worldwide friends and thousands of followers. He had a true artistic eye for, and deep technical knowledge of adapting classic film lenses to digital photography. He organized a local photography group in Gainesville as well. He was a natural artist, and exhibited at the Lewiston Art Festival several times in the late 1970s. More recently, he developed a love for abstract oil painting, and displayed his works at the Hippodrome Theatre Gallery in Gainesville, FL in 2016. Dozens of his paintings and photographs adorn his home. He loved traveling with his wife Pam, and visiting Niagara Falls every summer to be with his Mom and family. He spent tireless hours hiking, geocaching and exploring with this son, Andrew.

    Visitation will be on Friday, May 10th from 5 – 7 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304, where a brief religious service will follow at 7:00 P.M. A private memorial event is being held in Gainesville, Florida at the convenience of the family.
