LOCKPORT. Sept. 23 — One of
Lockport's oldest barbers, W. P.
Strassel, 84, 121 Park avenue,
died last night at the Burke nursing
home here after a long illness.
Mr.. Strassel, a native of this city,
followed, the bartering trade for
over 50 years. He was a member
of St. Anthony's Holy Name society.
Surviving are his wife, Prances;
a daughter, Mrs. Julia Oaks, Buffalo:
three sons, Claude. Sioux City.
Iowa, William P. and Leon P.
Strassel, this city, and three sisters.
Last rites will be held Monday at
10 a.m. from the Taylor and Reyn-
olds funeral home and at 10:30
o'clock at St. Anthony's church.

Calif., died Wednesday (Nov.

Mr. Sy was vice president

Industries in San
Francisco. Before taking this
position three years ago, he
worked for 30 years at. the
Adsco Division of Yuba Consolidated

Mr. Sy was born in Lockport
Jan. 2, 1901, sou of the
late Henry C. and Louisa M.
Strassel Sy. He took up residence
in North Tonawanda
after becoming associated
with the Adsco firm.
Survivors include his wife,

Mrs. Haseley, who was active in church and volunteer work, died Monday (March 15, 1993) in her Lockport home.
The former Isadora Sy, a native of Lockport, was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had been a secretary in the church office. She also was a member of the Ladies Aid Society.
Mrs. Haseley worked at several former Lockport companies, including Williams Bros. department store, Niagara Textile and Loblaw's. She also worked for the Lockport Board of Elections.
A member of the Lockport YWCA, she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Niagara County RSVP. She was a member of the Women's Republican Club.
Mrs. Haseley also was a member of the Niagara County
Genealogical Society and the Historic Society of North German Settlements in Western New York.
She was the widow of Leonard LaFleur and Harold Haseley.

WINTER PARK, FL — Donald Curtis “Strass” Strassel died peacefully on June 24, 2010 in Winter Park, FL. Born September 4, 1925, in Lockport, NY, he was the first born of William and Alice (Curtis) Strassel. He attended school there, served in the Army and graduated from St. Bonaventure University. He was a Roman Catholic.

He passed his love of hunting, fishing and golf on to his six children, and enjoyed following sports with them throughout his life. During Strass’s career in the marine industry he sold for many boat companies, including Pursuit and Tiara. He retired in 1995. An adventurer at heart, Strass was well-traveled and well-read. He will be remembered as a warm, creative wit who loved to share stories. Many an evening he could be found around the dinner table, part of a lively conversation long after the meal was finished.

He is survived by brother, William (Sharon) and sister-in-law, Sue Strassel; children, Susan (Joseph) Gilman of Winter Park, FL, Curtis (Gail) of St. Augustine, FL, Michael (Leslie) of Plantation, FL, Molly and Stephen, both of Naples, FL, and Mary Beth of Winter Park, FL; grandchildren, Spence, Joseph Jr. and Cooper Gilman, Margaret, Anne, Mary Katherine, Emily, Jacob, Matthew and Samantha Strassel, and Jared Hassut, step-grandson.

William P. Strassel passed away Saturday February 21, 2015 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born in Lockport, New York on July 12, 1929, he was the son of the late William P. Jr. and Alice M. (nee Curtis) Strassel.

William attended Lockport Senior High School, served in the United States Army from 1948 until 1952, and continued his education graduating from SUNY Canton. William worked at Harrison Radiator, Division of General Motors for 40 years, retiring in 1990 as an HVAC Engineer. He was a member of the American Legion B. Leo Dolan Post 410, Elks Club, Niagara County Historical Society, Olcott and Wilson Yacht Clubs, and a past member of the Tuscarora Club. He enjoyed playing baseball, softball, racquetball, boating, and teaching his grandchildren to fish.

William appreciated spending time and socializing with his many dedicated friends. He and his loving wife Sharon enjoyed a fulfilling retirement spending eighteen years in Bradenton, Florida, before returning to Lockport.

William is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon (nee Stranges) Strassel of Lockport; father of Mark (Mary) Strassel of Doylestown, PA., and Gregg (Terri) Strassel of Lockport; grandfather of Danielle, Maxwell and Matthew Strassel; brother in-law of Gary (Susan) Stranges and Wayne (Suzanne) Secord. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. William is predeceased by his brothers, Donald Strassel and James E. (Susan) Strassel.

WESTMORELAND, NH — Dr. Sy died at his home February 17, 2011, after a long illness.

Walter P. Sy, M.D. was born January 21, 1937 in North Tonawanda, NY, in the area of western New York state settled by his early 19th century German ancestors. He was the son of Arthur Herman Sy and Anabell Pless Sy.

He attended North Tonawanda High School, the University of Rochester and the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, from which he graduated in 1962. While in medical school he and a classmate co-authored and published a research paper which won first place in the National Medical Student Research Awards.

He married his college sweetheart, Jeanie Gray Maddox on December 17, 1960, a marriage "that made all the difference in my life”.

Dr. Sy served his internship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH, and then completed his specialty training at Yale/New Haven Medical Center in New Haven, CT.

From 1965 to 1967, Lieutenant Commander Sy served as the Chief of Anesthesiology at the United States Naval Hospital #1 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in NH.

Upon his discharge from the Navy, he was appointed as a staff anesthesiologist at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, NH, as well as Instructor in Surgery (Anesthesiology) at the Dartmouth Medical Center.

In 1969, he was made Director of Residency Training in Anesthesiology at The Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and received an appointment as Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery (Anesthesiology).

In 1972, he was elected as an examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology, a position he held for 15 years.

In 1979, Dr. Sy assumed the chairmanship of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, NH, now called the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center/Keene. There he was the Founder and Director of the Pain Treatment Clinic as part of the Department of Anesthesiology.

In 1985, he was elected one of the founding members of The New England Pain Association.

He retired in 1998. He and Jeanie had lived a "country life" of small scale farming almost all their married life. Among Dr. Sy's various interests were wood working, running, biking, traveling with Jeanie, gardening, genealogy, reading and history. He was an amateur Civil War historian and re-enactor. He gave many Civil War presentations to the area schools, historical societies and at Memorial Day events, as Captain of the 6th N.H. Volunteer Infantry Historical Association.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanie and much loved children and their families of whom he was so proud: Mrs. Jennifer Sy Heger, wife of Christopher Heger and mother of Connor and Duncan Heger; Mr. Christian Arthur Sy, husband of Tamara Campbell Sy, father of Colton and Campbell Sy; Mrs. Alice Sy Dolbow, wife of John Dolbow and mother of Maddox and Zoe Dolbow. Also surviving is his "best friend", Robert Pless Sy, Walter's loved brother, his wife Barbara and their children.

Audrey J. Jacobs of Middleport, died peacefully at the Briody Healthcare Facility with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Jacobs was born in Lockport, NY, on October 14, 1933 daughter of the late Harold and Evelyn (Meyers) Sy.
Mrs. Jacobs was a homemaker who has lived in Middleport since 1993 before that she had resided in Gasport. She enjoyed her family, crocheting, knitting and watching her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Rowland H. Jacobs; three sons, James (Maryellen) Jacobs of Middleport, Jeff (Darcy) Jacobs of Newfane and Gerald "Jake" (Roxanne) Jacobs of Middleport; four grandchildren, Christopher Jacobs, Brianna Jacobs, Ciara Jacobs and Andrew Jacobs, all of Middleport and one great-grandson, Logan. Also surviving is a sister Nancy (Norm) Zobel of Amherst; and a brother, Roland (Nancy) Sy of Lockport.

Jeanette F. (Lindhurst) Krueger, age 85, of North Tonawanda, Niagara County, NY, died peacefully on February 13, 2009. Jeanette was born February 7, 1924 in North Tonawanda, Niagara County, NY. She graduated from North Tonawanda High School, Class of 1941. She is survived by her beloved husband, Albert H. Krueger, Jr.; mother of the late Kathy Ann Krueger, Sandra (Joseph) Wawrzynek of Raleigh, NC, Debra Krueger of Lima, NY and Albert (Monica) Krueger of West Seneca, NY. DIETRICH - Stuart Calvin Age 94, entered into rest on January 23, 2018, under the watchful eye of The VA Hospital's Hospice Care Unit in Buffalo. Stuart was born July 8, 1923 to Clarence and Loretta (Strassel) Dietrich. He was the brother of the late Donald (Margery) Dietrich, the late Clarence (Betty) Dietrich and the late Susanne Schoenfeldt. Stuart was the devoted husband of 40 years to the late Sonja (Gniss) Dietrich. Stuart studied at the University of Maryland where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts. He also studied at the Idaho Farragut College of Technology and at the University of Alaska. While Stuart was studying in Alaska, he had his own sled dog team. Stuart was a Veteran of the Merchant Marines and the US Army. While serving in the military, Stuart attended school at the Presidio in San Francisco where he learned to speak Russian. He was also fluent in 4 other languages. He served for 14 years in the military and participated in the D-Day Invasion at Normandy, France. Stuart worked in Military Intelligence during the occupation of Vienna, Austria following the end of WW II. Stuart and Sonja lived in Munich, Germany and were avid travelers. They visited every continent except Antarctica. In his retirement from the military, Stuart worked for the Deutsche Postbank in Munich. Stuart returned to the US after his wife's death in 2012 and has since lived at the Elderwood Assisted Living Facility in Tonawanda. His family is grateful for the loving care he received while living there. He is survived by his cousins Donna (Taylor) Mileham and Wendy (Taylor) Mangrum, both of North Tonawanda, Wayne Schwartz of Montana, Conny Hammermann of Grunwald, Germany and many nieces and nephews. A private Memorial Service will be held for Stuart at a later date. Obituary of Robert Strassel Robert H. Strassel, age 55, passed away suddenly alongside his beloved dog Ellie during the early morning hours on October 19, 2015. Born in Buffalo on October 31, 1959, he is the son of Susan Hixson Strassel of Lockport and the late James E. Strassel. Robert will always be remembered as being a very family oriented father, husband, brother and son. He was extremely proud of his three children and their accomplishments and he was always a phone call away. He was always willing to help others, especially his mother, checking in with her every day to see if she needed any help. He enjoyed spending time with family and his dog Ellie. He had many hobbies including music, animals, and cars- especially his 2014 Camaro. Besides his mother, Robert is also survived by his beloved wife of 32 years Deborah (Richards) Strassel of Lockport; father of Robert D. (Miriam) Strassel of Warsaw, Alyssa R. Strassel of Seneca Falls, and Brittany M. Strassel of Lockport; grandfather of Oakley S. and Raynden B. Strassel; brother of Trisha (Thomas) Honan, Lisa (Rick) DeWaters, and Marcy A. Timothy "Tim" Sy

ALBANY — Timothy "Tim" Sy passed away, suddenly, on May 13th. Tim was born to Thomas and Mary Sy of Lockport, NY, on October 31, 1963. He attended Lockport elementary schools and was active in the boys scouts. He graduated from Lockport Senior High in 1981. Tim attended college at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he obtained a food service degree in 1985.

After college, Tim moved to Albany, NY, and was a food service manager for DAKA, Inc. In 1991, he married his high school sweetheart, Ann (Robison) also of Lockport. In 1992, he became employed with the State's Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped as a business specialist. In this role he assisted the visually handicapped operate convenient and food stores in the Capital District. Over the years Tim enjoyed skiing, ice skating, music, gardening and cooking.

Tim is survived by his best friend and wife, Ann; his mother, Mary Sy; brother, Thomas Sy (Diane); brother, Michael Sy (Bridget); brother-in-law, Michael Robison (Maria); ten nieces and nephews. He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial gathering will take place at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home in Lockport, NY, at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 18th. Family will attend his burial at Glenwood Cemetery, also in Lockport. Douglas S. Dietrich, age 64, of Sanborn, died Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Gates Vascular Institute in Buffalo after a brief illness. Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Donald and Marjorie (nee Diedrich) Dietrich and had been a resident of Sanborn for more than 20 years. Douglas was a self-employed chimney sweep and had been a custodian for the North Tonawanda School system. He was an avid gardener and will always be remembered for his smile, his jokes and his positive attitude.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Alexis (nee Pirk) Dietrich; his three brothers, Daniel Dietrich of Wilson, David (Patti) Dietrich of Greenville and Donald (Debbie) Dietrich of Newfane; and his three nephews, Donald, David and Derek Dietrich. Also surviving are several cousins.
